We are so grateful to have had Shoshana and Lori by our side during the birth of our son. This was our first delivery, and with no family around, we thought we would hire a doula, and we were delighted to work with Shoshana and Lori. They came to our home twice to help get us ready. These two sessions were really helpful, and we got to know they both and establish a sense of trust and respect. We felt supported and listened to.
The birth happened when Shoshana was on call. She stayed for the full 24 hours of labor, and we were so grateful that she responded very fast when labor started at 1am. She got to our home very quickly and helped us get to Kaiser Oakland as quickly as we could because things started rather intensely. I was so pleased to feel that my husband was supported as well, both throughout the hectic/rushed start, and then throughout the very long labor at the hospital. Shoshana helped us be as comfortable as we could, and was a wonderful and knowledgeable presence to talk to in order to discuss options.
Lori and Shoshana are well known and appreciated by the hospital staff.
They came to our home for two visits to check in on us and baby.
We are happy to recommend their services.
Working with Shoshana and her partner Lori was the single best decision that we made in creating our birth plan. From the expert and thoughtful pre and post natal support and education that they provided, to the immense support throughout labor, we couldn't be more grateful.
Shoshana was on call when I went into labor 2 weeks early. She was the first call that I made, and helped me find a sense of calm, remain grounded and take the steps that I needed to when my mind was in a million places. This was the case throughout the entire process. Shoshana provided steady, grounded and comforting support during the most vulnerable time in my life. She had a fabulous way of helping me mentally reframe the pain into positivity in regards to the baby progressing just the way she should be and making her way down to greet the world. She created a sense of excited anticipation in a time that I could have easily gotten mentally lost in the pain. Shoshana was incredibly empowering. She was steady and comforting and knew just the techniques to manage the pain, distract me when necessary, and even managed to make me laugh during labor.
While Lori wasn't on call when we went into labor, she was a wealth of knowledge during our pre and post natal visits, not to mention that she also stopped in twice throughout labor and brought so much warmth and support with her. We felt so genuinely cared for, and Lori went above and beyond.
Shoshana and Lori are a fantastic team and we felt like they had become part of our family throughout the process of working with them. We will absolutely be wanting to work with them again if the opportunity presents itself.
We contracted with Shoshana and her business partner, Lori Jaffe, for the birth of our daughter in August 2016, and we couldn't speak more highly of both of them. Shoshana was the one we met first (at a Birthways Meet the Doula event), and we were won over by her warmth and openness -- we really got the sense that her goal was to figure out what her clients wanted from their birth experience and then do everything she could to help them make it happen. Once we started having meetings with the team, we continued to be impressed. Shoshana was the one who handled most of our communications throughout the prenatal appointments, and we found her quick to answer questions and full of useful information about everything from what a birth plan might look like to how to install our carseat. Because of the way the doulas' "on call" schedule worked out, Lori was the one on duty to support us through our labor and delivery, but Shoshana was also a part of our birth experience; she took time out of her schedule the night before our daughter was born to see how we were doing, offer some tips about comfort during early active labor, and just be a positive presence in our birth space (at a time when we really needed it). When we had a meltdown on our first night home from the hospital, she was there on the phone to prop us up and remind us that things were going to get better; at our postpartum visit a few weeks later, she came prepared with more reassurances about the fourth trimester, and a baby sling for us to borrow. And just this past week, when my partner went back to work, Shoshana reached out to ask if baby and I wanted to join her for a walk in a local park so that I'd have an excuse to leave the house. We have felt consistently supported since the beginning of our interactions with her, and would recommend her services to anyone looking for a birth doula.
Shoshana and Tabitha were my doula team for the birth of my first child. What an incredible team! Both were there to help me out during the pregnancy with the pre-natal visits. Their in home visits felt supportive and were really informative. They helped to boost my confidence and to feel more ready for this life changing event! I had several unexpected twists during my pregnancy and the information and resources they provided proved invaluable. I was impressed with the amount of thought they put into their responses to my questions and the thoroughness of their answers. I went from feeling stressed and confused, to confident and empowered thanks to their support.
Shoshana was on call when I went into labor. Turned out that I had a very long labor, around 50 hours! She was there to keep me grounded and focused the entire time. She was mindful of the birth plan that we had created beforehand and did an excellent job of gently steering me back towards the original goals that I had expressed. However, as the labor progressed and dragged on, I changed my mind regarding some of my pain options. She was respectful of my decision and supportive. I am absolutely happy with the way that my son's birth unfolded and have no regrets. I know that I did my absolute best and gave 100%; I don't feel that I would have been able to be so present without Shoshana by my side.
Birthing is absolutely the most incredible experience I've had in life. The feeling of being so strong and so vulnerable all at once is almost indescribable. Shoshana had a way of making me feel completely at ease in her presence and that was truly a gift when I was riding those waves of pain!
If we decide to give our son a brother or sister, we will absolutely call on Shoshana and Tabitha again for their support.
