Every Birth Counts - https://www.gofundme.com/f/everybirthcounts Mother baby mortality is in crisis all over the world, but especially in Nigeria. According to the World Health Organization, only about one third of women have access to a care provider when they birth their baby. In addition to this, one in five children do not make it to see age five. ?? In recent visits, it has come to LabakCare Organization's attention that the lay midwives of the camp are assisting laboring moms with no equipment. They do not have access to gloves, sanitation, sanitary pads, newborn diapers, bulb syringes and other basic necessities. ??It is my goal fund "Maternity Packs" for LabakCare to take on their next medical missions. The packs would include basic supplies for the lay midwives, new mom and the baby. These are things that we often take for granted ourselves. For example: diapers, onsies, receiving blankets, sanitary pads, mesh underwear, bulb syringes, cord clamps, gloves, baby soap, wash cloths/towels, and hopefully more!

In preparation for the birth of my second child, we hired Amanda Arnold in 2015 as an antepartum and postpartum doula.
At first blush, Amanda may seem a bit reserved and guarded. After having her take the most selfless care of our family multiple times a week over a four-month period, I came to understand that what seemed like reticence was the manifestation of her keen powers of observation and her perspicacity.
Amanda is very perceptive, and is truly skilled at reading people, assessing their needs, and very adept at ensuring that those needs are met. I will always highly prize how gentle she was with my very reserved daughter, and how said gentleness won over my daughter’s confidence and eventual adoration. Amanda’s intuitiveness led her to realize that I do not have an easy time asking for help, and her assertive yet tender nature led her to offer her help in such a way that, time and again, it could not be refused.
Amanda was highly devoted to our family, and a very conscientious doula. It was unheard of her to be right on time — she was always early. She took the initiative to create a detailed document that spelled out the needs of each member of our family, including our dog. She did this in order to ensure that all doulas with her company who may have come into our home would have been able to provide a consistent level of care.
Amanda had the utmost respect for our rhythms and routines as a family and she always did her best to help us preserve such structures before and after the momentous occasion of childbirth.
Even though our working relationship came to an end years ago, Amanda still is a cherished friend whom I hold in high esteem.
I recommend Amanda without reservation.
Amanda was our doula with our third chld that was born on 11/2/2015. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend her for others that are looking for a doula. This was my third natural, unmedicated birth and Amanda's presence was calming. She was able to meet needs before requests were made and was intuitive to my needs. When giving birth it's hard to know what you will want or what way things will go. She was able to adjust depending on what was happening seemlessly. I was hot, I was cold, I wanted to sit up, sit down, I was in the labor tub, out of the tub, on the ball, off the ball. She was there for each transition of moods. Again I highly recommend Amanda for a truly wonderful birthing experience!
I hired Amanda and her partner Ginnie for the birth of my second child. They were an invaluable source of support during my pregnancy and weeks of prodromal labor. Amanda attended my birth and helped me achieve my goal of an unmedicated VBAC birth. My experience was amazing and Amanda really helped me stay confident and get through some moments when I felt like I couldn't do it. She was by my side through my whole labor and birth and she knew exactly what I needed without being asked. She also worked amazingly well with my midwife, nurse, and husband. She was an awesome part of my birth team and I'm so glad she was there with us.
Amanda has been instrumental in what turned out to be a very sucessful second birth. I wanted to work with a doula because my first birth didn't go according to my plan, and we only wanted 2 kids, so this was our last chance to get it right! Amanda was able to reassure me and work alongside me so that I felt as comfortable as one can when going into it. She is both knowledgeable and intuitive. I fully trusted her and we have remained in touch. She comes highly recommended!
I decided to hire a doula because I was afraid of the pain associated with labor and childbirth. When I found Amanda, I knew she was the right doula for us. She was open and accepting of our choices regarding pain management techniques. She was also very enthusiastic about what she does and showed how much she cares. As with most births, things didn't go exactly as planned. However, Amanda was there to support me and my husband throughout the process. My memories of my daughter's birth will always include Amanda by my side helping us through it. I also really appreciated the post-partum support and visit from Amanda. As a mom and a doula, she offered support and helpful advice. If I have another child, I will definitely reach out to Amanda for support.
I am writing this as a first time mother who had no idea what to expect when it came to the labor and delivery process. All I knew was that I really wanted to go as natural as possible, and that people kept telling me it would be the worst pain I have ever experienced. I hadn't initially planned on hiring a doula, nor did I really even know much about them. It wasn't until I went to a Comfort in Labor class that Amanda was teaching that I realized immediately I had to hire her. I felt a sense of calm around her, and thought she could be a great help during my labor. Help is an understatement to the experience my husband and I had with Amanda! Amanda surpassed all my expectations and more. She was professional and always available to answer any of my questions I had throughout my pregnancy. She is the ONLY reason both my husband and I got through the process. My husband called her a "machine" after the delivery because she was on point, dedicated, and focused the entire time. Not once did I feel uncomfortable or judged by her. She allowed me to still make all the decisions, but provided support and knowledge when needed. I can't even begin to list all of the different tricks and techniques she pulled out for the entire twelve hours of labor. All I know is that Amanda's services were priceless, and I am so thankful that I got to experience the birth of my fist son with her by my side the whole time. I would recommend Amanda to anyone who is considering hiring a doula, and I promise you won't regret it!
My decision to hire a doula took me a while. I had been about 5 or 6 months pregnant when I took the initiative to contact Loving Birth Services. I heard about them through a friend of a friend. Amanda called me the day after I sent them my inquiry. We met and she discussed what she does and why, her fee, her services ect ect. I immidiately liked her. She was warm and smiley. I felt like I had known her for years, that is how comfortable she made me. Amanda took the time to talk to me, offer services. During my pregnancy she, along with her doula partner, did a belly casting and a class teaching my husband and I relaxation techniques for when labor came. She is so knowledgeable and personable. I learned so much from her. To my distress, I was induced due to low fluid around the baby. They gave me Cervidel, a vully bulb and pitocin and when I finally felt like I couldn't take it anymore, Amanda came. She stayed with us for a while and since I was not progressing, we had her go home to her son. She came back the next day. I was so relieved to have her there by my side. She talked me through everything they were putting me through. I still would not dilate. Finally, my baby's heart rate excellerated and the doctor told me it was time to get her out. Amanda wanted to stay to see me and baby after, but they asked her to leave. She visited me in the hospital and again at home. I was in a sort of forced labor for three days, had an emergancy C-Section and was in the hospital for another three days. I felt like a failure. Amanda helped me feel better. She was meant to have this job. She is absolutely fantastic at it and we still talk to this day, as she encourages me to ask her anything baby, breastfeeding or mommy related. I will even use her for my next child, in hopes I can have the natrual birth that both her and I wished for.
The siblings class was fun and the children enjoyed it! It is a great way to prepare the siblings for a new family member. You were very informative and patience with the children. The activities and questions were right on point with the childrens questions. Thanks for taking the time out to explain what it would be like when baby gets here! We all had a great time in this class. It was a very helpful tool and experience. Thanks!
Sincerely, The Calabrese Family
Where do I begin Amanda was a God send during my VBA2C! I knew going into it I needed extra support and Amanda provided that and so much more. She's such a sweet heart she knew how to reassure me when I thought I'd give up. Reminding me to breath and relax and my birth was everything I would have dreamt of. My husband was so appreciative of the support she provided. We both agreed that we would have hired her a million times over! I loved the belly casting her and her partner Ginnie provided just a cute memorabilia for this pregnancy that has been a first for me. I look forward to getting my newborn's picture s taken in it =)I'm so glad Amanda was my doula I highly recommend her!
My experience with Amanda Hill was fantastic. Even before we meet we exchanged emails and she was extremely knowledgeable. When we met she answered all my questions and she has such a great, bubbly personality we decided she was going to be our doula right then and there. When my labor began things didn't exactly go as planned and we weren't able to utilize her like we had planned but she was there with me and my husband til my little darling was born. I'm a first time mom and Amanda has been a valuable resource for a bunch of things I didn't know about. I actually can't wait to have another baby so she can be my doula again!
Amanda was extremely sweet, informative and supportive. Our first in home meeting she brought a diagram she'd made of a dilating cervix, Lifesavers mints to better help my son's father understand the dilation process, and tools to show different comfort methods during my labor. Over the span of my pregnancy we'd gone out to discuss how I was feeling and she answered and helped with any concerns I was having. She showed me how to use a breast pump properly, different ways to Baby Wear, and the ins and outs of cloth diapering. Although my labor had not gone as planned, she was extremely helpful throughout my pregnancy. Even after having my son, she still offers any help and to answer any questions I may have. I would recommend her to anyone. She's more than a doula, she will become your life long friend.
From the first day I met her at a Comfort in Labor class, Amanda was always very attentive of full of valuable information. She is very well versed in the area of natural childbirth and appears to be very focused on ensuring that each mother has a memorable birth without any interventions. She was always quick to answer any questions I had and was flexible with her time and schedule. I especially enjoyed the belly casting session that Amanda came and did it my home. It was a very personal experience that I will always remember and she also made it very fun. I would definitely recommend Amanda and Loving Birth Services to any expecting mother looking to hire a knowledgable doula.
I am a Doula in the Philadelphia area, I recently had the privledge of consulting with one of Ginnie and Amanda's Clients. I found Both Ginnie and Amanda to be warm, kind, and caring. They displayed true care towards their client by reaching out to find all possible solutions so that their mama could have the best shot at a sucessful VBAC. They took extra care to pamper their client with a warm foot soak and an atmophere of love and support easing her into a place of safty and rest. I would highly reccomend Ginnie and Amanda to anyone seeking a doula. They are a great team and truely care for each of their mama's.
