I highly recommend Andrea for your prenatal/postnatal experience. From our first phone conversation, we were warmly welcomed and provided a continuous flow of information and assistance throughout our experience. She is very informative and hands on. Most importantly, I had extreme anxiety regarding labor. As soon as Andrea showed up at the hospital, my nerves were eased tremendously. She immediately jumped into action and stayed with me throughout the entire experience. We were able to experience an unmedicated natural birth.  My husband really enjoyed that she was there to assist in ways that he couldn’t. She followed up post birth as well. She genuinely cares about the family as a whole and it shows through her actions.
Without a doubt, we had an A+ experience!!!

Our goal was to have a natural, un-medicated birth and that’s exactly what we accomplished with Andrea as our doula. She was so calming and helped me to labor at home and then to labor at the hospital. I ended up only laboring for four hours at the hospital! She worked well with my doctor and the hospital staff. I received so many compliments on my encouraging birth team! Not only did she help manage pain naturally with essential oils and acupressure, but she showed my husband know how to help me, too. It was all about us being a family and my husband and I experiencing labor together. I couldn’t say enough about Andrea – you’ll have a great labor with her!

Andrea is an amazing doula! Both my husband and I can attest to Andrea’s ability and knowledge. She is extremely professional, patient, and kind. We learned a lot about pregnancy, childbirth and newborn care from my meetings with Andrea. Her presence during my home birth of our second son was a tremendous help. I was determined to have an all natural birth and I couldn't have done it without Andrea.
Looking back, I am very happy about my birth experience and am so thankful to Andrea for being a part of it.
Thank you so much Andrea!

My experience wasn't a typical "doula" experience in that I ended up needing a C-section.  Up until 2 days before delivery, I was convinced that I was going to go natural and Andrea was very helpful and helped to try to make it possible for me.  It just wasn't meant to be...  Andrea did come to the hospital and helped give tips with breastfeeding, newborn care and just being a supportive, objective friend.  She was great and very helpful and followed up about 2 weeks later when all the family had left town, my husband and I were able to get more tips from her.

I look forward to my next pregnancy and hopefully Andrea will help me be able to deliver naturally for that one!  Andrea is very non-judgemental, supportive and wonderful.  Thanks Andrea, and I'm sorry this review is so overdue...  That's what having a baby can do...

Andrea is a Doula who really knows her stuff! The pre-labor visits she had with me and my husband were really helpful and very relaxed and nice. She gave us a lot of great information up front and she was even able to feel my belly and tell how the baby was positioned! My labor was a bit unique....because it lasted a week. Andrea kept in touch with me that week and was available for all of my questions. When it became closer to game time, she came over and helped increase and regulate my contractions with some cool Doula tricks! She was also a very calming presence. Andrea was wonderful at the hospital. She was encouraging but also provided some slight tough love when it came to my contractions. I never thought I would forget to breath, but I did! She answered all of my questions, kept me calm, and was a huge help to both me and my husband when it came time for me to push. When it came to preparing for birth ahead of time and working through the labor process, I could not have gotten through without Andrea. She's very knowledgeable and just an all around cool lady!

I can't recommend Andrea highly enough. We feel so lucky that we found her, especially since we didn't start our doula search until the 11th hour. From day one, Andrea was open, honest, encouraging, and very accessible. Her years of experience were obvious and reassuring, starting in that very first conversation. She helped both my husband and I feel much more empowered going into our first birthing experience. My daughter came a little earlier than anyone had anticipated, and we had a rough labor with plenty of curveballs. Andrea was 100% present throughout the whole ordeal, and did a great job coaching my husband and I, liaising with the hospital staff, and assuaging my anxiety (I'm pretty much a never ending fountain of anxiety under normal circumstances, so you can imagine what a workout that was!). I have no idea what we would have done without her before, during, or after. It's a pleasure to recommend her to everyone I know searching for a doula in the Northern Virginia area.

My experience with Andrea Proper as my doula was a very positive experience. She was very knowledgeable about the birthing process and educating me about what to expect. She was very experienced in working with doctors, nurses, parents and spouses. She took the time to answer all my questions and helped me understand some of the medical terminology being used by my doctor. During my labor she was able to keep me calm and relaxed while coaching my husband on how to encourage me thru the process. After 11 hours of labor and 40 minutes of pushing my daughter was born naturally without any major complications. I would not have another child with out using her services.
