Hi, my name is Morgana and Amanda asked me to write for her, a letter of reference. I feel honoured to be asked to write something about her. I am however having a hard time with it. I am having a hard time with it because in order to tell you how I know Amanda and how incredibly beautiful she is as a person, I have to tell you that I lost my baby.
On April 1st of this year I lost my baby. I free birthed her in the comfort of my own home, in my bathroom in the wee hours of the morning. I was nearly 4 months pregnant and didn’t know what to do when I started bleeding days before. My husband and I wept together non stop leading up to our loss. Amanda was there for me in a way that not many other people have been, ever. My family and I owe her a great debt of love and gratitude for all the ways she has held us during the worst time of our lives. We are still mourning. We are still going through it and every single day she has been here to see how I am doing, she has gifted me with a support I didn’t see coming. Amanda is deeply perceptive and very self aware. She is the one of the most emotionally intelligent, bright and beautiful people I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. I feel that her life’s calling is birth work, women’s work, love. She is an angel here on earth and she is changing the world with her love.
I can’t think of a better person more suited to becoming a midwife than Amanda.
I appreciate her so much and I can’t wait to see what new incredible things she does next.
Amanda Barton was a wonderful addition to my husband and I's birthing experience of our first child. We had intended on having a home birth from the moment we knew we were pregnant and Amanda was always in our corner, advocating for us and helping us navigate the world of midwives and birthing education. She was apart of every facet of our birth including everything leading up to the actual birth like picking a midwife and the right atmosphere for my eventual labor. She recommended many books that fit our needs and provided educational videos to better prepare us for the process of growing and delivering our beautiful boy into the world. Her availability was extremely flexible and she never minded our late night questions and early morning concerns. During the actual birth she was more prepared than we could have hoped for, offering a multitude of solutions to my many discomforts including: counter pressure, warm compresses, different positions to help my labor progress, a pleasant atmosphere with soothing scents and white noise, and libations were constantly given to help with dehydration. Even when my back labor pain became unmanageable she calmly and efficiently helped my husband and I make the transition to the hospital. In the hospital she became the photographer since I had many people to attend my needs and she got wonderful pictures of my son being born. She also was helpful at assuring me when my son was born with some complications that caused him to be limp and blue upon being born. She got the room to quiet down just so I could hear his tiny cry that let me know he was finally alright when she realized it was being drowned out by a sea of unaware medical personnel. Even now when my son is much older she is still wonderful enough to answer questions and provide helpful advice for new parent concerns. She would be a wonderful addition to anyone's birthing experience an provides the kind of support that all families will appreciate.
Amanda was there for me as a doula and as a friend during and after my second pregnancy. I was high risk and a repeat c-section was scheduled for August 10th. Around July I began suffering from kidney stones and pre-term labor. Amanda was there for me and my family every day that entire month. She accompanied me on the numerous hospital visits I had to have and also helped me in my home with housework and my other children. All with a newborn of her own strapped to her in a sling! When I went into labor on August 3rd and had to have an emergency c-section Amanda was there at my side. She stayed until I was back in the room and out of recovery and then checked in several times on me and my family throughout my hospital stay. Once I was home Amanda was there for us again to help adjust to having the baby at home. I would recommend her to anyone. She made a very scary experience alot more tolerable and comfortable.
