Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

I've been working with families for many years, beginning with my first experience as a postpartum doula in 1984. I continued to provide caregiving while I was pregnant and having my own three babies. The experience of becoming a parent solidified my deep calling towards birth work, and to supporting new families. I completed my formal Birth & Postpartum Doula training in 2012, and my Lactation Educator certification through Douglas College in 2013. I have been working professionally as a member of Doulas Of Victoria ever since. I am an Indigenous Doula, providing birth & postpartum support through the Doulas For Aboriginal Families Grant Program. Folks who are eligible may receive up to $1200 of funding through the DAFGP towards my services. As a registered Yoga Teacher, I share weekly community yoga & meditation classes and private yoga therapy sessions. My style is gentle, trauma informed & therapeutically based, and offers an embodied approach to healing through movement, connection to breath, nervous system awareness & self compassion practices. My classes include Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga, Pelvic Floor Wellness, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra and Meditation. I recently joined the teaching faculty of Ajna Yoga College, and am honoured to co-teach the Perinatal Yoga Module for the Yoga Therapy program. I continue to learn, grow and share through the wisdom of yoga, and am currently completing an 800 hour diploma program to become a Yoga Therapist. I am deeply committed to holding space for folks throughout their unique pregnancy, birthing, parenting, and healing journeys. Tamara was my post partum doula for 5 months. She helped me tremendously as a first time mother, and was amazing with my newborn son. She's patient, kind, compassionate and respectful, and it was clear my son loved spending time with her! She helped with breastfeeding as I was having trouble, and even created a detailed list of breastfeeding articles and infortmation, it was extremely thoughful. It was a joy for us to have her as our doula, and I cannot recommend her enough.

I am happy to write a review for postpartum Doula extraordinaire, Tamara Cleaver.  Being first time parents, my husband and I quickly became overwhelmed when our newborn daughter started having terrible digestion issues and therefore was constantly uncomfortable, resulting in intense and lengthy bouts of scream crying.  It was traumatic to see our little one in so much discomfort and very difficult for us to handle due to the stress and lack of sleep.  After the first 6 weeks of trying to manage on our own, we called on Tamara's postpartum services based on a referral from our birth Doula.

From the moment we met, Tamara's calm and kind nature was apparent and appreciated.  Her many years of experience helped guide us through one of most difficult times of our lives.  She spent a number of hours one on one with me and my daughter, offering support, knowledge and understanding.  In addition to our time spent together, she would follow up on questions by email, phone or text, always willing to be available in a time of need.

Over the next few months our daugther's crying and irritability was not improving and I called upon her once again for advice. It was at this time, based on her experienced observation that she forwarded contact details for professional services to help diagnose our daughter's condition.  Without a doubt, we would still be stuck if she hadn't taken the extra time to search out options for us and we are greatful for her dedication to helping our difficult situation.

It has been a pleasure getting to know her and having her as our postpartum Doula.  I would highly recommend Tamara to any family looking for an experienced Doula with a friendly ear and a loving heart.

Tamara is my 'knight in shining armour'! She has helped fill the roles of mother, best friend and sister since my family live far away. She helps me feel more confident in my role as a new mom offering encouragement, words of wisdom and sometimes just a hug when I need it most. I'm so glad we were matched up, when I needed her most, she is flexible and understandin, exactly what you need when you navigate uncharted waters!

Tamara was our postpartum doula for almost a year. I had a challenging delivery and experienced health problems without a lot of support. Tamara was truly a god send for me and my family. She is a knowledgable, kind-hearted, trustworthy, and caring doula. From the first meeting that we had together, I felt safe and cared for in her presence. Tamara was my doula from the time my daughter was 2 1/2 weeks old until she was 1 and my daughter always felt very comfortable and happy with her. I was able to get the rest and support that I needed. Not only did she spend time with my daugher and help with the house maintenance and meals so I could rest, she helped through breastfeeding challenges, provided emotional support, and helped me getting to and from appointments, as I do not drive. If you are looking for a doula who will truly care for you, advocate for you, and provide you with knowledge and support, then I highly recommend getting Tamara as a postpartum doula. Thank you so much Tamara for all of your TLC. We cherish you!
