I attended and first became aquainted with Aimee through her prenatal yoga classes. I had never been to a prenatal class before and really enjoyed them...for many reasons I soon after tried quite a few other classes around the city that were along other paths of my daily routine but kept coming back to Aimee. I found her class to be the perfect balance of really challenging yet mindful of my body and my baby, and her attitude to be incredibly calming. This calm energy was exactly the reason why I also ultimately chose to use her doula services as well.
As a doula Aimee was again just the right balance of being supportive, calm, and focused on what I needed along the way. She also was able to read situations well which I appreciated, and made suggestions that I would not have thought of in many different moments which was exactly what I was hoping to get from having a doula present for our journey. Aimee is an incredibly intuitive and positive person and we appreciated her role in our childbirth story.
Aimee was a calm, kind, prepared and reassuring presence before, during and after my delivery. She was full of helpful advice and knew when to be involved and when to step away during the whole 25 hours of my labor. She was excellent at communicating and never made me feel silly for asking questions, crying out or wanting to use epidural. She made me feel strong and capable. She was also amazing with my family and finding ways to keep my husband involved. When my pain was at its worst, even with the epidural (which Aimee was supportive of), she used aromatherapy, breathing and massage to comfort me. Lastly, I believe that Aimee's quick action and tips helped in the success nursing of my daughter. I can't recommend her enough.
I met Aimee through her prenatal yoga class and decided to hire her for the birth of our first child in September 2013. Aimee met with us before to talk about what we wanted, our expectations, our worries and concerns and what was most important to us in our birth plan. As soon as labor started, we called Aimee to begin our preparations. However, we were in for a long haul. Labor started early Wednesday morning and our son wasn't born until Friday morning. I had prodromal labor, intense contractions without labor progressing. It was really tough. We followed 3-1-1 and went to the hospital early Thursday morning only to be told to return home. It was frustrating to be only 2-3 cm dilated after hours of intense contractions, but Aimee stuck in there with us. We returned home and labored there for ten more hours before we headed to the hospital (again!) only after my water finally broke.
During active labor, Aimee was a steady and calm presence. She held an icepack on my back for hours on end. She knew just where to apply pressure and didn't stop even when her arms must have grown tired. After 36 hours of labor from start to finish, our son was born. It was exhausting, but Aimee was there for us the whole time by email, phone, text and in person and went with us on two trips to the hospital!
Aimee is extremely professional and knowledgeable about the birth preparation process, labor experience and bonding with the baby/lactation afterwards. She is composed under pressure, doesn't judge your choices or frantic needs and brings a calmness and expertise to the birthing experience that will support you and your partner without upstaging your own experience. I recommend her and was so happy to have had Aimee there with us!
We interviewed two doulas. The first one we met was nice but didn’t give us the same calm feeling we got from Aimee. This was our first child and we wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of. Aimee explained everything to us so we felt comfortable before and during our delivery. Our plan was to have a natural hospital birth but after 30 hours of labor we had to have a c-section. Aimee was present during the entire labor process and was only not with us for the surgery. In the recovery room she immediately assisted with nursing which put me at ease. Aimee’s follow up visit was incredibly helpful too. She reassured me about so many things that I was questioning.
Overall I would highly recommend Aimee. I felt like I couldn’t have done it without her. She was there every step of the way. Helpful, kind, warm, soothing and wonderful!
This was our first pregnancy and we both wanted to have an experienced and encouraging "coach" to help us along the way. We could not be happier having had Aimee as our doula! She helped us formulate our birth plan and to feel as prepared as we could for the birth. Throughout the process, I appreciated that rather than telling us what we should do, she explained the pros and cons of various decisions and was not judgmental or one-sided to my choices. I delivered at NYU and the doctors and nurses were barely in the room until the time of delivery. Aimee was with me the entire time! I found it so important that I did not have to be left alone at any point during the labor, which was great when my husband had to rest or give updates to the family. Her presence during the birth of our daughter was a tremendous help. She was very nurturing, she provided aromatherapy oils and back massages which really made a huge difference during my contractions. She was a great cheerleader in moments where I thought I would not be able to deliver the baby. Aimee is extremely knowledgeable, professional, patient, and kind; and she was a tremendous help to my husband and me before, during, and after the birth. She is awesome and we recommend her highly. Thanks so much Aimee!
Aimee is a wonderful doula. My boyfriend and I met with her a couple of times before I went into labor to talk about what kind of support we were looking for. I also got to pick out my favorite scents out of her aromatherapy kit - a nice little bonus. I had a homebirth and Aimee showed up a couple of hours before the midwives and communicated with them to let them know when they needed to come so I didn't have to think about all that. She is a kind and hard-working doula. She was always there to offer me a cool wash cloth, something to drink, a calming or invigorating scent when I needed it. She gave me the most helpful, strong pelvic presses when I had my pushing contractions. Those were the best pain killers! I was pushing for four hours and she never left me by myself through a contraction. My midwives told me afterwards what a great job they thought she did. I would hire her again in a heart beat.
My husband and I chose Aimee to support us at the birth of our first baby girl. Neither of us have any family here, and felt that we were missing the support and comfort that a mother or sister would bring. For me, having Aimee there to hold my hand through the contractions was just what I needed. I was extremely nauseaus during my entire labor, and really appreciated the scented oil that she had brought with her, which helped to alleviate the problem. Aimee was extremely calm and supportive of my decisions, even as I deviated from my original birth plan. If you are considering a doula, I highly recommend Aimee. She made a scary experience so much easier to bear.
