Melissa was a huge asset to my birth and postpartum experience. At the last minute, I decided to try and have a VBAC instead of a repeat csection. Melissa was there for me even before my son came into the world. We only thought we needed postpartum care bit hoe nice to have a Doula too! She was a calming presence in the midst of chaos. After my son was born she was flexible and available. She played with my 3 year old son, performed household chores, helped me while recovering from a csection (after the vbac was unsuccessful) and helped with my new son. I recommend Melissa on many levels. First, hire her as a Doula and then have her come assist you as a postpartum doula especially if you have several children. The more hands you have to help everyone transition and heal, the better. I don't know how we would have survived those few months without her. Oh and then keep her has a babysitter too! We would have done this but we had to move out of state :(.
Melissa helped me in the weeks leading up to labor, during the birth, and post partum. I had a lot of extra prep to do as we were also moving shortly after the birth. I never could have gotten everything done without her help. Sometimes she helped with my preschooler (she came over before there birth so I could get a nap when I needed it, and was my child care during my home birth, and gave my 3 yo the opportunity to watch her sibling's birth - something that was important to me). sometimes she cleaned for me, other times she helped pack. She even picked up random things I needed from the store but couldn't get myself. There were days when, without her I might not have eaten, or brushed my teeth, or have been able to do those basic things. She helped with nursing, sleep, diaper changes, newborn advice with things I couldn't remember from my first. She even helped fix something of mine so it would be ready to use in our new home, and it required a little elbow grease. Her help was invaluable, and I really don't know what I would have done without her.
Melissa was vital during my recent pregnancy and postpartum. We do not have any family in the imediate area to help so she graciously stepped in and cared for my 3 year old for several of our midwife appointments and other events that he was unable to attend. After the baby came she was always available when i needed her to step in to help. I do not know what we would have done without her loving and caring support, we are forever greatful for Melissa!
