I met Brittany while taking a class at a local community college. I was very pregnant and my husband was about to leave for training for 8 months. I had only spoke with her breifly about our stance on medical interventions before she gave me her card and I thought I'd probably never see her again. Well, a few weeks passed and it became real to me, that I would be delivering that baby alone. I didn't want to do that, after a horribly traumatic birth expereince with my first delivery.., so I emailed Brittany, just to see what she was about.
She responded right away and offered to meet with me. Well, I showed up for our meeting and what I intended on only being a short interview, turned into a several hours long conversation over coffee that led me to finding just who I needed to be there with me, and for me, while I brought my little girl earthside.
Brittany was professional and kind. I, of course, went into labor while she was out of town. She let me know that she would be a little farther out of range, but that she would come if it was time. She kept her word, and she got to my home in plenty of time. She helped me to maintain a VERY peaceful environment. She made me hot tea and asked me what I NEEDED, not what SHE wanted me to do. I explained that I was experiencing some back labor and that my little girl had turned posterior. Brittany showed me some positioning to help. While it was work, it worked and baby turned.
She helped support me in my most vulnerable time and she treated me like more than a client. She felt like a trusted friend and I was comfortable leaning on her (literally!) while I labored. My birth was more wonderful than I could have ever hoped for. She continued to check in on me afterwards, and came to visit me a few weeks after birth.
I firmly believe that Brittany is a gift from God and put on this earth to be an amazing labor support. I highly recommend her services.
Brittany was a wonderful support and encouragement to me as I battled anxiety and panic attacks throughout my pregnancy due to trauma associated with my first birth. She was a faithful, patient and encouraging resource throughout the last week of pregnancy, when I was a grumpy ready-to-be-done pregnant mama experiencing the frustration of painful start/stop contractions for most of the week.
I credit her with helping active labor finally start by coming over in the wee hours of the morning to coach me through physical and mental ways of focusing on and welcoming the contractions. Once labor finally became established she was a wonderful servant in every way I needed her to be in order to achieve the peaceful, positive home water birth experience I desired. Her gentle verbal, physical and spiritual encouragement continually came right when I needed it. A mother of young children herself, she helped my eager two year old son participate in labor support in ways that were effective and enjoyable for us all. She also helped in very practical ways, whether it was contacting other members of the birth support team, boiling pot after pot of water to add to the birth pool or simply making tea and coffee for the rest of the support team.
Throughout postpartum recovery she has been diligent to check in on me to make sure I am recovering and adjusting well.
Brittany has been an integral part of this pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience. I highly recommend her doula services!
