Accidental home-birth and Britney saved the day !!! OK people - Dad review here: Britney is a "must have" for your birthing experience.
Our first baby was born after a long "natural-birth" experience at a hospital (23 hours of labor... but my wife pulled it off). Britney handled the nurses & family. She advocated for us when we were feeling outnumbered. She played "messenger-person" when we had friends and family outside waiting in the lobby and didn't want everyone in the room with us, but still wanted to let them all know what was happening. Britney was the best choice we made during our whole birthing experience.
Fast forward 2 years later and we were expecting a baby girl and laboring at home. Britney arrived and all of the sudden my wife said: my water just broke... and I think I feel the head. Britney poked her hear around the corner and in a calming relaxed way said: "Yup, that's the head and you're going to have your baby here". We were not nervous. We were not anxious. We were excited - and a lot of that had to do with Britney and her positive presence. 5 minutes later and 4 pushes - POP ! I caught a baby in my arms on our bed. I think that classifies me as a "midwife". I was elated. Britney had the good sense to keep focused and made sure that I was rubbing the baby to get circulation moving and all the life-saving things that I needed to do for the well-being of our new baby girl even though I was in a joyful daze about the miracle that just took place. Britney called and dealt with the Ambulance who came and checked the baby out and took us to the hospital.
I hope this helps moms & dads choose Britney to be their doula because if I had all the time in the world to sit down and try to convince you that it was the right decision... I'd do it.
Britney was absolutely amazing and a very important part of our birth day(s)- 32 hours! My husband was a little skeptical when i first suggested that we hire a doula. He read some other testimonials and quickly agreed that it was a good idea. We met with Britney and knew right away that she was a great fit for us! We were even luckier to get into the hynobirthing classes that she instructs so we got to spend even more time getting to know her. I was in labor for a long 32 hours due to some complications with high blood pressure and a collapsed bladder and Britney was by my side guiding me through my planned natural birth (no pain meds!!). My husband says that everything he was trying to do to sooth me, I was protesting (i don't totally remember that) but Britney was able to keep me zen throughout the laboring/birthing process. She is a very caring and fun person, which helped lighten the mood during the long labor. My husband now tells all of our friends that are expecting that hiring a doula is a must- and he would have paid Britney double for the work she did! We are both grateful for our experience with Britney and plan to use her again for our future children!
First of all I am 100% happy with my choice to have a doula. Having that extra support from someone who's experienced numerous births (and has seen it all!) in addition to having my husband by my side was the best choice for me. Britney met with us several times (We even took her Hypnobirthing course, so we had extra time to get to know each other!) and she was with me every step of the way through my pregnancy and birth, phone, e-mail, in person, whatever we needed. She has many tools on her belt for whatever birth plan you would like to strive for. When I ran into some medical hurdles towards the end of the pregnancy she really encouraged me to stick with my "birth plan" as much as I could and to stay positive through things. During my labor I remember her extremely valuable advice that helped me stay more relaxed whenever I would tense up. I had a birth with no drugs or interventions and am so grateful for that as I know anything can happen during labor and a birth plan may not always go 100%. Thanks to a wonderful doula like Britney, hypnobirthing, and my husband.
Britney was a fantastic doula. She helped me feel educated and supported while I was still pregnant and was a vital source of support when I was in labor and in the hospital. When I couldn't think beyond each push and everything I was feeling in my body, she was the voice of wisdom in my ear, reminding me of my rights, and what wasn't necessary for my birth.
I felt so comfortable and at ease during labor, I stayed home until well past my transition and didn't even think to tell Britney to come over until just before that. I arrived at the hospital ready to give birth (no fault of hers, she wasn't with me long enough to establish how far along I was!) but when my baby was almost crowning, a nurse still wanted to start an IV. Britney whispered in my ear, reminding me that the baby was coming and I didn't need the IV now. I was able then to turn to the nurse with a firm NO, I don't want that now. And then I just focused on pushing my baby out. I'll never forget it, it was empowering and freeing to feel totally in control of my and my baby's birth.
She's lovely, and wonderful to be around, talk to, everything. She has a wealth of knowledge to share and her massage skills are kind of amazing. I highly recommend her doula services. And calling her to come over earlier in your labor, haha!
I gave birth on November 20th 2014, and during my whole labor I was greatful to have chosen a doula. During my pregnancy I decided I wanted to have a labor without an epidural, and let me tell I wouldn't have achieved the labor I wanted if it weren't for my doula Britney Murillo. She was everything I was expecting her to be, when we met I told her that I was doubting on having a doula in my labor because I was afraid to get caught between the the Doctors desitions and the doula, and douring my whole labor she respected that and got along incredibly with my doctor, in the end I even heard the docyor talking my to her and telling her she liked her work! every single thing I told her douring our prenatal visits she remembered and she used that Information to motivate me when I was giving up on my natural labor, she was patient, calm and very caring; my husband who was hesitant on the idea of a doula at the end was incredibly satisfied with Britney being there, he even said Britney was an important factor of the perfect birth my son had!
Britney as for me I want have to than you your work and dedication, you were incredible, and with out I doubt I wouldve have my natural labor!
I knew labor would be emotionally difficult to handle and I can not explain how excited I was to have found Britney. She is truly AMAZING. I knew immediately that Britney was the right choice. She was so kind and intuitive towards my needs.
Britney frequently checked up on me and my progress and always responded with the same level of (if not more) excitement which was such a blessing for me. Since I was planning on a natural hospital birth, Britney helped my write a birth plan, gave me ideas on what to ask my OB, and showed me and my birth partner techniques to relieve labor pains. She was even able to connect me with another doula for a last minute placenta encapsulation within a few days!
When my water broke at 38 weeks, the hosptial staff informed me that I needed to be induced in order to start contractions. I was heartbroken. It was very difficult for me to advocate for myself, but Britney was there to gave me the support I needed to voice my wants. Britney stayed with me for over 16 hours of my 30 hour labor. Once contractions got really intense she was there holding my hand, trying different positions to ease pain, and encouraging me to keep going. She gave me strength to advocate to the doctors and not let them pressure me into things I didn't want to do. She was the rock I needed to get through a very emotional labor. Britney stayed afterwards to help with initial breastfeeding and process some of the birth.
Following the delievery, Britney did a postpartum visit where we went over the birth in more detail and shared what we enjoyed about the process. Britney went out of her way and returned to the hospital to thank one of the nurses on our behalf. She also called in the following weeks to check up on me, provided breastfeeding support, and helped me process some of the events that had transpired during my labor.
I will be forever grateful to have had Britney with me during my experience. She is a wonderful person.
When I originally started looking into more natural childbirth methods, a doula was recommended to me as an option. Along with this recommendation, I was given Britney’s info (Little Bean Doula). I cannot express how glad I am I followed up on that information! Britney was there for me to answer questions (and I had tons!), give suggestions, and even helped try to get my practice labor turned into real labor by providing a massage and exercises to help position baby well! Originally my husband wasn’t sure about hiring a doula but after interviewing Britney, he was sold. And we are so glad we did! During labor Britney helped keep us calm and focused. I wanted a natural childbirth and she understood how important that was to me. My labor went smoothly and I never worried about whether Britney would know what to do in any given situation. Britney is encouraging, supportive, and honest. I couldn’t recommend anyone better! My husband is so thankful we had her there – and she really encouraged him to be my main support all through labor. We are incredibly thankful for her help during pregnancy and labor! Whether you want to go the natural route or already know you want the epidural, Britney can help support you every step of the way answering questions, encouraging you, and helping you understand your options or what the doctor is saying. You won’t regret hiring her!
