We had such a great experience with Jessica! Trying for a VBAC is nerve racking but she definitely helped smooth things over. First, she didn't take any chances with my health. When my labor started off with contractions at 1.5 to 2.5 minutes apart, she didn't hesitate to tell us to go to the hospital even though it was so early. Second, she talked to me logically when I was emotional about have a labor intervention. It was exactly what I needed to hear. And she encouraged me to do as much standing and squating as I could before having an epidural. Third, she was considerate about how much time she spent with us. Since we went to the hospital so early we were definitely in danger of running over our contracted 12 hours so when I had my epidural and we knew it would be a while before any more action happened she took the opportunity to get some rest herself so she wouldn't have to charge us extra. She also made sure to help where she could after the labor without stepping on anyone's toes. It was a wonderful experience that I wouldn't trade for anything! And if we have any more babies we will definitely be giving Jessica & Emilie a call again!
Once we decided we wanted a natural birth, we did a lot of research online and spoke with several different Doulas over the phone. From the moment we spoke with Jessica Walker we felt very confident and comfortable with her. During our in person interview Jessica brought her counterpart Emilee as well. That's the best part about Jessica - she always has a partner who is also on call so you should never be left without a Doula during labor.
We had written down many questions that both Jessica and Emilee provided great answers to. They made us feel at ease making the decision to hire them very easy.
As our due date approached we started our labor training in home. This was very beneficially and professionally taught. The Doulas also provided an infant care class. As we approached 40 weeks both Jessica and Emilee checked in on us daily via text or a phone call. After 40 weeks came and went Jessica continued to give us support and confidence to stay patient. She even came over for a house visit to offer up some suggestions to move labor along.
Finally on our 41st week and 4th day into pregnancy, labor finally started! We contacted Jessica in the middle of the night and she offered up calming advice to Dad to keep Mom confident and calm. Everything we learned in labor class came out and we used the techniques she taught us to have a very fast and successful natural birth.
Jessica also offers placenta encapsulation. Jessica's postpartum support was just as amazing. She was always available for questions and advice - almost like having a nurse on call 24/7.
Hiring a Doula is not necessary, but if you're looking for an overabundance of support, training, humble advice, and confidence in giving birth, you should really consider using Jessica Walker & Emilee Cook - Black Rabbit Doulas
Jessica encapsulated my placenta. She did a great job with the actual encapsulation. The best part was when my in laws were present during the process and asking a lot questions about how and why. She studied and is certified to do the actual work safely and clean up afterwards. But she also knew all about the "why". She could explain to a doctor about the hormones in the placenta and why it would be beneficial to ingest it .
Jessica is absolutely amazing. My husband and I were completely overwhelmed with our newborn baby girl. She is our first baby and we don't have any family that live near us and we really really needed help (and sleep). We've been so lucky to have her over the past few months as our girl has grown from newborn to infant! She is incredibly kind, pateint, knowledgeable, reliable and professional. I wish I had met her before I had our baby as I would have hired her to be our labor doula as well. I honestly don't know what we would have done without her. Jessica's expertise and patience was something we could never ever put a price on. Anyone who works with her will be incredibly lucky!
Birthing is hard work. My brain and body couldnt do anything but try to get him out. She was my rock and my mind while my body was busy. She reminded me how to breathe and move my body. i wouldve been lost and crazy without her presence. We had complications and she made it less scary, less impossible
When my husband and I first met with Jessica we were struggling new parents at the end of our rope. We could not see an end in sight to the constant unknowns and exhaustion. Her presence in our home was such a welcome and exciting thing! Jessica was our postpartum doula and I knew that on those hard days I just had to make it to the evening and then I'd get to breathe, relax, and sleep knowing our son was safe and loved in her care. I know that getting those breaks made me a calmer, happier mother for my son. The routines and suggestions she offered were wonderful! Our son wakes up every single morning smiling and giggling and it would not have been possible without her help and guidance. We truly look forward to working with her again when he becomes a big brother!
Pregnancy and birth was nothing new to me. I had had two babies. Both at the hospital, one with an epidural and one without meds. However with our third baby, we were treading new water. We were going to have a home birth. We wanted a doula that we were comfortable around, one that we were comfortable bringing into our home. We liked Jessica's assertive, yet calming personality. During labor Jessica was excellent. The moment she arrived she fit right in, she was able to read the room and know what her role was in that moment. It was as though she could read my mind and knew exactly what I needed, when I needed it. I felt connected to Jessica during labor and knew I could get through each contraction with her by my side. She worked with my husband to offer me support. My midwife was impressed by Jessica, she appreciated the quiet and calm presence that she brought. We had a wonderful birth experience and would highly recommend Jessica.
Jessica was a priceless part of our first child's birthday. My goals for labor were to avoid a C-section by maintaining a more "natural" approach to labor. I was in labor for over 24 hours, which made for a very long day for me and my husband. Jessica was a constant and comforting presence as she offered verbal support, counter pressure, position change recommendations and even watched over my family throughout the day. She was able to offer my husband excellent support and much needed rest and time for meals while I was never once left alone. When my labor got really hard at the end of the day, she was able to offer some guided meditation to help me cope with the overwhelming exhaustion that had set in. When things didn't go quite as planned (and they rarely do) she was able to help me understand what all the options meant and helped me navigate my feelings about what steps to take next. I ended up laboring for 20 hours naturally, with only the last 4 hours with pitocin and an epidural. I was able to avoid C-section and was very pleased with the overall experience, since every decision I made was well informed and supported completely.
One of the best things I can possibly say about Jessica was that she received compliments from everyone in our birthing room. My husband said we would never have a baby without her. My mother, who was ultra skeptical of the doula to begin with, said she was indispensable. The nurses said she was very professional and we're glad she was there and still "let them do their jobs." The physician even seemed to include her as part of the team throughout labor and praised her support while I was pushing.
In a nutshell, Jessica was worth her weight in gold. She is professional, experienced, knowledgeable and made our experience the best it could have possibly been.
Jessica will always have a special place in my heart after her role in helping me achieve my goal of an unmedicated vbac.
I chose her after reading reviews about her gentle presence and her encouragement during labor. There was something about the way people wrote about her that drew me to her.
She was a great asset during home labor and really helped my husband feeling comfortable in assisting my needs.
While pushing, Jessica helped me stay present and on top of the pain, while helping me relax through verbal encouragement and gentle touch.
I have already recommended Jessica to my pregnant friends. I never would consider doing another birth without her!
I have had the privilege to work along side of Jessica at both home and hospital births. She is an extremely skilled doula, and is so at home attending births. She brings a very positive, supportive and calming energy. Along with her natural nurturing ability, she also has a very strong foundation of hands-on coping techniques, as well as in depth knowledge of birth, pregnancy, nutrition and breastfeeding. If I ever have another birth of my own, I hope to have Jessica there as my doula!
Jessica is amazing, and I can't recommend her highly enough! She is compassionate, professional, very knowledgeable, and dedicated to her clients. I had a somewhat unusual labor which I was completely unprepared for, and there is no way it would have gone as well as it did without her help. I truly believe her presence made all the difference! She devoted a great deal of time to us and was incredibly flexible and reliable. She helped calm our nerves and gave us the confidence we needed. I am so glad that I decided to hire a doula, and even more thankful that I found Jessica.
Jessica attended our birth in August 2011. She was also at many of our midwife appts leading up to the birth. We LOVED her! She is so sweet! Jessica was an such an essential part of our birth team. I remember her encouraging me and brushing my hair to help me relax. I look forward to having her be a part of our next birth and hopefully every birth thereafter!
I met Jessica through a friend of mine who is also a doula just days before my birth. My decision to have a doula was last minute (i was already past my due date when we first spoke), and i feel very lucky that she still decided to take me as a client. There were many doubts and worries i had about my birth experience, but after speaking with Jessica she really put my mind at ease about having a hospital birth. She really wanted to get to know me and what kind of birth i was looking for. All of my questions were answered very thouroughly and i definately felt more confident about the whole situation after speaking with her. We were supposed to meet in person that weekend, but i ended up going into labor on Friday. Jessica was so supportive and met me at the hospital ready to go. I cannot believe how helpful she was during my whole birthing process, it was incredible. She helped me regulate my breathing and also helped me practice breathing and vocal exercises to get me through contractions. If i needed anything she was there with a cool washcloth, a heat pack for my back, even snacks! Obviously i was in a lot of pain and she made me feel much more positive, like i could do it no matter what. Without Jessica present at my birth i know it would not have been nearly as positive as an experience as it was! If you are looking for a kind, caring, knowlegable and professional individual then i would definately recommend Jessica to you, as i have already recommended her to many friends of mine:)
I had the pleasure of having Jessica participate in my pregnancy and birth of my youngest son. She was always warm and friendly and made me feel very comfortable. She went above and beyond by allowing me to pay payments for some services that most would require up front. I loved having Jessica as a participant in my experience and would definitely choose her again.
