Having Debbie come to take care of me and my new baby was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I had a planned C-section, and she arrived the day that I got home from the hospital. Even though I had a healthy baby it was just so reassuring to have someone with Debbie's immense experience as a NICU nurse. Even though I was already the mother of a six-year-old, nothing can prepare you for that incredible fragility of the newborn state. Debbie literally taught me how to do absolutely everything (even though I had done it once before - you just forget!).

Debbie was on call 24 hours. She stayed with my baby at night so that I could sleep and heal from my surgery. I had a challenging situation with breastfeeding, but she was there by my side - helping me get the milk going, reminding me to take all my supplements, bringing me snacks and drinks throughout the day so that I would stay as hydrated as possible. She got me set up on the breast pump and had me on a regimen that she helped me through day in and day out. She encouraged me, gave me pep talks, and was a compassionate listener when I was having a rough day. She monitored my healing, bugged me to take naps, even when I didn't want to. (She knew better - I actually really needed them). She cooked meals for my whole family!

Debbie has an amazing understanding of family dynamics with new baby. She was incredibly sensitive to everyone. She made my six-year old feel like she was a part of everything and it really helped my daughter's adjustment to her new brother. She made my in-laws feel comfortable and chatted to my parents.

Then there was the teaching part. Before she left, she wanted to make sure we knew everything we could. She gave us CPR training,  and downloaded us on everything to expect in the months ahead. She even showed us how to save money on diapers and supplies! Debbie has a holistic approach to the mother, baby and entire family, and it made all the difference.

There are not enough words to describe how wonderful Debbie truly is. She was absolutely phenomenal caring for my son (my first child) when we came home from the hospital. She treated him as if he were her own. I bonded immediately on the phone with Debbie on our first chat. I knew It would work out well. My husband and I are very particular and detail oriented. On an academic level, Debbie has many licenses, certifications and has gone through much training. Her expertise and experience, combined with her being an absolute sweetheart is the perfect mix! I could not have dreamt of a better doula. She was extremely attentive to my newborn son 24/7, all while preparing meals, helping me with my c-section recovery, light house keeping and teaching my husband and me how to properly care for our son. There was no price I could have put on her wonderful care. She has become part of my family and I speak to her on a regular basis!

I cannot say enough good things about Debbie. She is the most patient person on earth and took the time to answer every question carefully and gently. Debbie taught me how to care for my son, and while I was still hormonal and uncomfortable / in pain from giving birth, she also made me learn how to enjoy my son!

She did a walk through of our apartment to tell us how to baby proof. She taught us infant CPR. She gave us lessons in everything from swaddling to feeding to diapering. My son is still on a great sleep schedule thanks to her. We have a small NYC apartment and she slept and kept all her stuff (not a lot) in our son's room. We had a twin Aerobed for her. She was big on giving us family time and sent us out for date night too. We invited her to join us for dinner and she did sometimes - and she is really interesting and tells great stories so that was fun.

I gave up on nursing when my son was a month old because I physically couldn't do it (flat nipples and low milk) but Debbie did everything to support my attempts - literally everything from sitting with me when I cried because he wouldn't latch to cooking me string beans because they may be a food which supports milk production, to teaching me how to use the breast pump to mimicking breast milk putting formula in a syringe, and everything in between. When I was about to go insane from trying, 2 weeks after she left, she made me feel whole again via email and phone about my decision to stick to formula. (Nursing is really hard for some women but I'm OCD and type A and couldn't give up until I attempted everything... I was a broken woman for a bit. Debbie did everything she could to prevent that.)

In NYC lots of people hire "nurses" but they aren't and it isn't safe or smart. Debbie also checked my c-section scar and made sure I was sleeping and eating. She was awesome with my mom and inlaws. Seriously I can't say anything negative. I'm just so thankful I found her.

The best thing my husband & I did was to get help the first 2 weeks home (I had a c section) from the hospital & there's no one better than Debbie! She has over 30 years of experience in all levels of caring for babies (from critical care in the hospital to caring for babies in their homes). She took amazing care of our little one and of me and my husband as well. She made sure I was able to recover by keeping us well fed & rested. She also educated us regarding taking proper care of our baby. I'm a nurse but I was lost with newborn care-she left me feeling more secure & confident.

She is also the type of person you don't mind having in your home (I was a bit nervous about that as well).
She was great & in the end we made a new friend.
Oh, and she's willing to be there for you with questions/concerns long after she leaves your home.
I highly recommend her & I'm happy to answer any other questions. Take care & good luck with your upcoming miracle!
