We chose Robin as our doula after interviewing 4 or 5 women and it was one of the best choices we have made as a family. We knew we wanted a certain kind of birth but we were also open to new ideas and suggestions which Robin helped us with as we molded our delivery plan. When the day came, which ended up being 4 weeks early, Robin was a source of comfort and knowledge through the whole experience and I walked away from the delivery and recovery looking back with nothing but positive memories. I was able to labor at home for as long as I wanted and had a unmedicated birth of a healthy baby girl.
When I got pregnant with our second we had friends and family ask if we would be getting a doula again since we "knew what to expect" and could do it on our own. Our answer was "yes, of course we'll be calling Robin." Although the birth of our son was a different experience altogether, Robin's council and guidance helped me feel very at peace about decisions that had to be made that day. Even my OB mentioned how much she enjoyed working with Robin and said how rare it was to find such a great doula that worked so well with hospital staff.
The postpartum visits after both children came home from the hospital were wonderful and very reassuming in a time when everything is so new and challenging (can we was BREASFEEDING!).
If you are looking for a Doula who doesn't speak FOR you but speaks WITH you to help make decisions and bring your baby into this world, she's your person.
"Everyone needs a Robin Selvera."
I first met Robin through her Hypnobabies birthing class. She guided us through weeks of calm, loving and encouraging support preparing us for the wonderful birth of our baby. Soon into these classes, as I began preparing my birthing plan, I knew I wanted that same steady voice with me during the critical hours to come.
In the end, my birthing went every possible way other than "as planned." When family members (and even my spouse) grew weak and weary, Robin never faltered. Despite my labor lasting over multiple days and locations - she (quite literally) held my hand every step of the way. She was able to help communicate in ways my frazzled-labor-driven brain could understand what both doctors and midwives were advising. Her training and education also allowed her to help guide my body (and in turn my baby) into effective positions during the peak moments of our birthing. Robin's clear, strong support kept me in control of my birth and allowed me to make informed decisions. (Not fright-filled or bullied by all the different medical staff)
Everyone needs a Robin Selvera and I would absolutely recommend any of her birth assisting services. First time moms or fifth time moms - everyone can benefit from the strong support of an incredible woman who cares.
Robin was my doula for my third pregnancy & birth. My first two babies were born in a hospital via C-section and I really wanted to have a natural birth at a birth center for my third child. I liked that she had experience in both a birth center and a hospital in the event we had to be transferred to a hospital (we didn’t, but it helped to put my mind at ease). She was great about answering my questions and explaining things to me so I could make an informed decision – which also put me at ease. I took the hypnobabies class through her as well, the class was very helpful for me and when I did go into labor I felt calm, collected and excited. I went into labor three weeks early. My baby came very quickly and she wasn’t able to make it to my birth (her back up barely made it) but I was so prepared going into it that it was fine. Robin got there right after my baby was born and she helped me to put together & coordinated some last-minute things I had not had a chance to do yet. (photographer and placenta encapsulation).
I feel like Robin had my best interest in mind when she made recommendations and I found her recommendations were always helpful. She was amazing and I am so glad I had her to support me because I really feel like she was instrumental in my successful vba2c. Thank you Robin!
When I first contacted Robin, I didn't even realize what I was looking for. We first started with a birth class, where we learned so much useful information for the natural birth we wanted - we would not have been able to get through our birth as successful as we did had my husband and I not taken her class beforehand. We then pursued her post pardum doula services after the birth of our first child. I had no idea how badly I would need her services. She was with us our first night home from the hospital. Her knowledge and expertise helped us tremendously while trying to establish a routine with our baby. I was able to rest and therefore heal very quickly post birth because of her. She answered every question I had, helped with breastfeeding, bottle feeding, sleep habits, calming and swaddling techniques specific for our baby, baby gear, and the list goes on. Having her was better than I ever imagined, and we will definitely be using her for any future children! I cannot recommend Robin enough. You need her!
When my wife became pregnand I began doing a lot of research and one of the first things I came across was doula services. After doing more research on doulas and the services they offer I know I had to get one for my especially considering we are first time parents and were going to be doing an all-natural birth at a nearby birthing center. After interviewing several doulas my wife selected Robyn because of the confidence and genuine caring attitude she exhuded. I knew Robyn was going to be a great help to my wife after I met her as well. What I didn't anticipate how much support and reassurance I got from having Robyn assisting us with the delivery. Our baby girl was posterior and my wife went through about 72 hours of very painful back labor. Emotionally I would not have been able to handle it the way I did without the educaiton and support that Robyn provided. I know neither of us could have made it through her labor with confidence we did without her help. I recommend that everyone expecting a doula find a doula and if you are in the Greater Houston area that doula should be Robyn Selvera!
I hired Robin Selvera as my doula, and I highly recommend her. She also taught me the Hypnobabies class. Robin's high level of experience was instrumental in helping me approach my birthing time in a calm and relaxed manner despite the fact that I had honestly feared giving birth for my entire life. It helped me so much to go into my birthing time with knowledge, and feeling like i had someone there who could help me make sense of any situation that arose and make the best decision was so important. I ultimately did have an epidural, but thanks to the knowledge I had gained in my classes, I was able to make an informed decision about it given my set of circumstances, and did not regret it. I have so many positive memories from my birthing time, and Robin was a great part of the "Dream Team" that made it happen.
After deciding I wanted to hire a doula for the birth of my daughter, I started talking to friends and researching online. I had come across Bella Vie Baby Planners on my own and later found out that Robin was one of my best friend's doula for both of her children's births. She came highly recommended, so I set up my first consultation. I really like that I got a free consultation to "interview" her and get a good feel for Robin. I especially liked that she is an EPI Doula as I wasn't totally decided on having an all natural birth. Robin made it clear she was there to support me in whatever birth I wanted and to keep me informed on any decisions the hospital staff suggested to avoid any unnecessary interventions.
She was accessible throughout my pregnancy to answer questions, discuss dr appointments, and help me come up with a birth plan. We had a comfort class a few weeks before my due date to discuss expectations, what happens to my body, and coping mechanisms to handle contractions and make sure they are productive.
When I went into labor, Robin met us at the hospital and helped my contractions progress by suggesting walking and movements on the birthing ball, and helped keep me comfortable to breathe through them. After I decided to get an epidural she continued to help by positioning me to ease the discomfort and keep contractions progressing. After 18 hours our baby girl arrived! Looking back, my husband and I could not have done it without her! I would recommend Robin to anyone regardless of what type of birth you want.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience using Robin as our birthing coach. From the first "interview" that we had with her we knew that she was the doula for us. She is extremelly knowledgeable about all things baby (birthing, registering, baby safety, postpartum care to name a few areas of her expertise) and at the same time extremely patient and considerate of the parent's wishes. We contacted her day and night with various concerns or questions throughout my pregnancy and she was always diligent to respond and make sure we were taken care of. During our birthing time she was by my side confiidentally directing me through each step of the process, which allowed my husband to focus on meeting my emotional needs and fully experience the birrth as well. This was all very imprortant to us as first time parents, and both my husband and I said we don't know how we would have made it through the entire process without her! Thanks so much again Robin!!
Robin helped me with the birth of my first child and I am definitely using her again when I have my second. The thought of giving birth was very scary for me and Robin did a great job keeping me calm and focused before my labor. My story is a bit unusual as my labor went quick and was a week early. I was already at the hospital when Robin was able to meet up with me. The first part of my labor, the active phase, was quite painful and I wasn't sure I would be able to make it through without an epidural. As soon as Robin showed up she got me in the right positions, calmed me down and my transitional phase was actually less painful than the active phase of labor. Robin was the reason I was able to have a natural birth, which was my birth plan. Without her, I don't know how I would have made it through. My husband, though I love him dearly, was not much help and I was fortunate enough that a close friend was able to make it, but my mom did not arrive until a few days later and Robin was really my rock. Thank you so much Robin for making my birthing experience truly memorable, in a good way!
