My husband and I hired Heather to give us a private Baby Class in our home before the birth of our twins. We ended up hiring her to stay for more than two extra hours so that we could get extra familiar with a few topics we felt especially intimidated by, like breastfeeding and cloth diapering. She was happy to spend the extra time on us, and every minute of the class was extremely valuable! We felt much better prepared to take on caring for two newborns because of what we learned during the Baby Class.
We already had hired a doula for the homebirth we were planning by the time we met Heather, but we felt so comfortable with her after the day she spent with us at our house that we invited her to attend the birth anyway. It wasn’t until days later, when I saw the many stunningly beautiful, real, and raw photos she took with our camera (with my husband’s permission) of my labor that I fully realized how valuable her presence with us that day was. We will cherish those photos for a lifetime, and we are so grateful to Heather for capturing them for us without me even noticing.
Our gratitude to Heather doesn’t end there, though. Long story short, I required a hospital transfer after a long and difficult labor at home, and ended up with a spinal headache from an epidural. I needed to leave the babies with family in order to return to the hospital to get a procedure to have the headache fixed, but I was finding it impossible to pump enough milk for them to drink while I was away, because the pain was making my supply tank. We reached out to Heather to see if she had any milk sharing resources for us. She showed up at our house later that night with a gallon freezer bag packed full of smaller bags of frozen breastmilk, selflessly donated to us from a friend of hers!
Whether you are pregnant or a new parent, you want to have Heather on your team. Words truly can’t express how grateful we are that she was on ours.
Heather was fantastic! My first birth ended in an unplanned c-section and so when I found out I was pregnant again (due 12/2017) I knew I wanted to have a VBAC. The doula from my first birth was no longer taking clients and so I went on interviewing other doulas. Heather stood out and I felt very connected immediately as she has had several VBACs herself. At 22 weeks I decided I need to switch providers and Heather was very supportive and helped me process my feelings and be able to select a birth center I was comfortable with. After my beyond amazing birth experience and having her by my side this time, I now realize how important it is to truly connect with your doula because she knew exactly what I needed even when I didn't know. (While I didn't have a bad experience with my first doula, I definitely can't say it was this positive and helpful.) In addition to supporting me and helping my husband support me she was able to take some pictures for us that I never realized how much I would love. And even though it was my second baby, we of course had some new challenges and Heather was always a text or call away to help me with ideas or resources. If we are blessed with more children I would definitely want Heather by my side!
Heather is such a fantastic woman! She has a way about her that just immediately makes you feel comfortable and she does an excellent job of coaching and tending to your needs.
I had the pleasure of having Heather present at my home birth as a doula, and I also took a birthing class with Heather. She did an amazing job in both teaching and accommodating the needs of my husband and I for her class.
I would use her again in a heartbeat for my next birth!
Heather is an AMAZING doula, and I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for support during the birthing process! I was determined to have my baby naturally and med-free, and she helped me accomplish that. She was at my side for hours in the middle of the night offering a variety of different positions and breathing techniques to help me manage the pain. She listened to me and respected my wishes about what kind of support I needed. She was also the only person who believed me when I said it was time to push. The nursing staff thought it was too soon, and didn't even want to check me or call the doctor in. If it were not for her insistence with the nurses, I'm pretty sure my husband would have had to deliver the baby! She was also great in the lead-up to delivery. I went well past my due date, and I didn't quite see eye-to-eye with my OB about how things should go down. Heather was great as a sounding board for how I should maneuver that situation so that I could have the kind of birthing experience that I wanted. She's a midwife in training in addition to being a doula, so she's extremely knowledgeable about best birthing practices and what the science supports. I'm now a big believer in doulas, and think every woman should have one! I wholeheartedly recommend Heather without any reservations!
Heather helped my husband and me so much during the birth of our second child. I had a difficult birth with my first - lots of interventions, confusion on my part, and some long-lasting issues. Heather helped us walk through our options, refine what we wanted, how we communicated to each other, and what our goals were for the birth. She answered many questions for me before the birth, and then was a wonderful help during labor. Heather helped me labor at home for as long as we were all comfortable, then helped me in the hospital to have a totally unmedicated birth. Her kindness and encouragement to my husband and me both was so helpful in a stressful and somewhat frightening time. Thanks Heather!
Heather was caring and compassionate throughout my entire pregnancy. It was my first pregnancy and I had recently lost my mother. I also developed a horrible rash that made me miserable half the time. Heather had the experience to assist me with natural remedies for the rash and helped me remain calm. Of course she also went over a detailed birth plan and helped me learn techniques to prepare for child birth. At a little over 40 weeks, my doctor began discussing a c-Section. Heather gave me ALL of the information (pros, cons, and in betweens) about a c-section versus a natural birth and helped me make an informed decision. While I preferred a natural birth, I ultimately decided a c-section was best. Heather was there to support me as much as she was able at the hospital and also visited several weeks after to check on me. She is very sweet and full of knowledge. I highly recommend her if you are trying to choose a doula. While your outcome may not always be what you hoped for, it is great to know you have someone in your corner who wants the best for you and your baby.
I decided I wanted to have an all natural birth as soon as I became pregnant with my daughter. Many people told me I was crazy and could not believe I would want to do an unmedicated birth. One of my closest friends recommended I look into having a doula present as a labor coach. I researched a few doulas online and found Heather. After speaking with her on the phone and just "clicking", I knew she was the right choice for us. My husband and I met with Heather and she explained what a doula does, how everything would go, etc. This immediately put me at ease, and I knew I could have the labor I wanted with Heather there to support us. I was due on June 16th and was shocked when my water broke at 11:30pm on May 12th! We had met with Heather only twice at this point and had several additional meetings scheduled! I called the hospital and Heather to get direction on what to do next. They considered this an emergency since our baby girl was five weeks early. Heather calmed me down and reassured me that everything would be fine. Before she arrived at the hospital, I was not progressing as quickly as the nurses would have liked so they asked if they could start pitocin. I said no and stood my ground, as I knew that pitocin increases contractions and the pain associated with them. I also got up out of bed and walked around, sat on a ball, etc. Heather taught me all of this. The next time they checked me, I was 6 cm dialated. She met us at the hospital and was a true labor coach! She did massage, helped me into the right positions and really helped to calm my nerves. I progressed farily quickly after Heather got there, and our daughter was born at 12:11pm on May 13th at 4lbs, 14 oz. Heather is a blessing to our family and helped me reach my goal of having a natural birth. She was so sweet, calm, listened to us and created a wonderful environment for the birthing process. I can't say enough wonderful things about her. We would recommend her to any family!
Heather was very helpful with our late planning and late minute change of delivery location. She helped us to be confident in our labor plan and instilled peace in the last couple weeks. She helped me to feel like things were normal throughout labor, even though it was hard, and not to worry. She had oils to diffuse when the room smelled bad to me. She took pictures during the delivery for me.
Heather provided excellent post partum help for us on the day after our baby arrived. She was calm, friendly, helpful and got things done without question, she did the washing and heated the food, as well as anything else that was required on the day.It was really helpful to have a meeting with her before the birth where she noted where everything was in the house and what requirements there were. We will definitly use her services again and recommend her to anyone looking for post partum assistance. Thank you Heather :-)
I highly recommend Heather as a birth doula. She was my doula during my VBAC on January 4th, 2013. I truly believe that I would not make it without her. I had an unmedicated VBAC at Texas Children's Hospital Pavilion for women. It was quite a long and painful labor. Heather was by my side from 9 pm till the evening the next day. She was extremely supportive and always was able to find the right words of encouragement even when I was crying that I could not do it anymore. I am greatful for all her support and help.
I felt very comfortable with Heather from the start. She was equipped with all kinds of info previously researched. We communicated frequently and as a result she was there when I needed her. Heather proved to be a tower of strength during my entire birthing experience. I relied on her calming and encouraging words to bring me back to focus when necessary. She was able to guide my husband to do exercises that helped with positioning so that our baby was ready to make his entrance. Without Heather I think we would have fallen apart or be even more stressed out! I totally relied on Heather throughout and simply could not have done it without her!
Heather made us feel very comfortable from the moment we met with her. I liked that she took her time to read over our agreement with us. It gave us the opportunity to ask any questions while going over certain things. That first impression made it easy to make our decision on hiring her. I am very happy we did. We enjoyed her home visits with us. She would bring us much needed information and answer any questions we had. Different exercises helped her and my boyfriend understand the type of support I was envisioning for my birth experience. Up until my birth, if I had any questions via text or phone, she was there. Even after, she still answers questions I may have. This was my 2nd baby. Although I will never forget either birth (the first being a very bad experience-hospital birth, medicated), I still find myself going back to that day in the birthing center, loving every minute of it. It was everything I imagined and more. I was a little nervous but knew that I had the best support team ever. I would hire her again in a heartbeat! Thank you, Heather.
We had a successful, unmedicated hospital VBAC with Heather on October 30th, 2012. She was AMAZING! She was so incredibly supportive, calming, and reassuring; it was truly like she was tapped into my brain and knew the right thing to do or say through the entire process. I am pretty sure she rubbed my back through every contraction from the moment she walked in the door until he was out. That counter pressure provided so much relief! She did an wonderful job reminding me to keep my voice low through contractions so that I could stay in control. And she helped me to stay strong when I thought I couldn't do it anymore and wanted that epidural. Her constant reminders that my body was doing what it was meant to do and that incredible pain just meant I was that much closer to meeting my sweet baby were enough to help me make it through. She was also so helpful in working with the nurse to ensure I was albe to labor the way I wanted to labor, in whatever positions and locations were comfortable to me.
The truth is this VBAC would not have been possible without Heather's reassurance and guidance. My crazy little peanut flipped breech at 39 weeks and I was pretty much ready to throw in the towel and schedule a c-section. I was just so tired of fighting to have the birth I wanted. My mom and my husband were telling me I needed to accept the cards I had been dealt and just be happy that I was going to have a baby. But I just wasn't ready to give in. Heather was the only one telling me to listen to my heart and asking me what it was that I really wanted! She refered me to a midwife that was successfully able to turn the baby and luckily he was ready to come out a week later! She supported me through all kinds of hudles like GD, being GBS+, and being a VBAC. She was paramount to my success and I could never fully articulate how grateful I am to her for everything!
