Whitney was our lovely doula at the birth of my son in March of 2018. She was an amazing advocate for me during an almost 24 hour birth. As with most birth plans, things change and I remember her asking me what is the #1 thing you want out of this birth (outside of a healthy baby of course!). I told her everything in my birth plan could go out the window but I wanted to do everything possible to avoid a C-section. She worked tirelessly with the midwives and nursing staff to try different pushing techniques and pain control for me at a time when I couldn't verbalize my wishes. My son ended up being 'sunny side up' and I am confident many midwives/drs would have pushed me to a c section and I credit Whitney as one of the main reasons I was able to avoid it. I look back on my birth experience as positive and Whitney was such an important part of that with her support and advocacy!
Whitney was our Postpartum Doula. She was really wonderful. Even when I wasn't sure what needed to be done, she found ways to help me get rest, keep our house running smoothly, and help me eat some healthy food. My parents and husband really enjoyed interacting with her as well. One thing I especially appreciated was her extensive training and experience as a Doula. I could ask lots of questions and she was also able to help me with my own physical recovery. Even if you have lots of support with family and friends, I would highly recommend Whitney. It was great when she would come over and my husband and I could both take a break. We're super grateful and it reduced a lot of the stress that comes with a newborn.
Whitney was my doula for my first child, born at the end of 2019. During my pregnancy, she was a fabulous resource for all of my questions and concerns so that I didn't have to scare myself with answers from google. My husband and I met with her several times before the birth so we could get to know her, discuss our preferences and create a birth plan, and understand what was to come with our birth. When the day came to deliver, it was so comforting to me to be able to call Whitney when my contractions started and have her remind me of my plan. Having her tell us what is normal to expect, things we can do, etc., allowed my husband and I to focus on just the next step. In the end, she supported us through 30 hours of labor and a non-emergent transfer from our birthing center to a hospital. I couldn't imagine having navigated all of the decisions that came up through that period without her support and knowledge. She always made sure we were understanding the options ahead of us before we made a decision. In the end, we had a beautiful, healthy baby boy and felt supported the whole way. I wish every mama knew the benefits of having a doula. We will certainly use Whitney for all future children we're lucky enough to have.
Words can not describe how wonderful our experience was with Whitney and Geneva. We are first time parents, and they were an invaluable resource with helping us through our journey. On the day of the birth, Whitney was right by our side wtih a loving hand and heart. She will always be a part of our family. Thank you so much, you two.
I had a high risk pregnancy and was able to deliver my baby vaginally without pain meds because of Whitney! She is wonderful and I will hire her again for our next baby. She was also a great resource ahead of the delivery to both me and my husband. She hosted movie nights and get togethers with other expecting parents and provided many great resources for learning all about birth. We felt very prepared because of her.
Whitney & Geneva were my first experience using doulas. I had an unplanned section with my first child and really wanted a VBAC with my second. Since I did need a VBAC, the hospital was my only choice (besides homebirth). I wanted doulas to make the experience to be positive and mother centered, unmedicated if possible and just more holistic than is typical of a hospital birth. I could not be happier with my decision to work it’s these to gals. First, they provide so many resources and information to educate on pregnancy, birth, postpartum, etc. Everything from optimal fetal positioning to diet habits to writing birth plans. Second, you get to have birth support person that you build a connection with AND this person has tons of birth experience and knowledge. For me this was irreplaceable during my birth. Whitney encouraged me and built up my confidence that I CAN have a VBAC - she was positive and reassuring when I would start to think I can’t do this. She gave me a massage and showed my husband how to do counter pressure on my lower back that helped get through the contractions. She coached me on breathing again and again and again as I would freak out. I swear it made the contractions shorter. Also she was there with suggestions of different positions to try and when to try and rest and yes even sleep. I also loved that I had a trustes source to get a second opinion on when the nurses or doctors would suggest something. Thirdly, postpartum Whitney and Geneva were there to make sure I was taking care of myself (and being taken care of) with their Goddess Time recovery plan - super helpful. They also made themselves available via phone calls/ texts 24/7 with any questions I had. I must have texted them everyday with something or another. When my baby boy had a painful latch, Whitney came by and helped me with breastfeeding. There was also a postpartum home visit to check on baby and me. They were kind, understanding and irreplaceable.
My husband and I weren't sure if we needed a doula. It turned out to be the best decision we could have made to help us through my pregnancy and birth of our first child. Being an older woman of 36 and high risk due to my age, I was nervous and knew very little about how the birthing process worked, but having Whitney to call and calm my fears helped me feel more at ease. I went 12 days past my due date, and Whitney helped me hang in there. I was able to have the unmedicated birth experience I was hoping for and she was with us every step of the way making sure the hospital staff understood our birth plan! Whitney made our experience amazing when it could have been stressful and scary. I highly recommend her and we were so grateful we had her with us at the hospital!
My Husband and I hired Whitney for the birth of our Daughter in September. Whitney was a consummate professional, a wealth of knowledge, and a fun source of support. Our birth story wouldn't've turned out as well without her. I am forever grateful and would recommend her to everyone a expectabba baby.
The day was February 26 2012 when the first real contraction hit. I sent a text to my midwifes and doula (Whitney) Who promptly told me to try and get some rest and call when contractions were closer and labor is going, as I was going to attempted a homebirth. On February 27th 2am in a bath tub I told my husband to make the calls as contractions were closer. Soon after I had Whitney coaching me along and holding my hand. She even fed me. I labored for another day with no baby. I was so tired and Whitney continued to encourage me as well as tell me its ok if you want to go to the hospital. After a extremely long labor I along with Whitney decided it was better to go to hospital. While in the hospital and so tired I could not talk striate Whitney was my mouth, she talked to the doctors as well as comforted me. I ended up a cesarean but after my procedure Whitney was there to greet me in recovery, as well as the next morning. I don't even think the poor girl had even had time to rest. I could not thank her enough and would have her by my side again!
Although Whitney was never my doula, many of the families that take my childbirth classes hire her. I am a doula too and am still overjoyed to learn that a family has hired her. Whitney is also a very welcoming comrade in the birthing community. On several occations she has given me wonderful advise that has helped to to be a better doula. Colorado is profoundly lucky to have Whitney. Not a single family, that I have met, regrets having her as their doula or midwife.
My husband and I were thrown for a loop when our planned and rehearsed natural birth plan abruptly changed due to our baby being in a breech position. We had been set to deliver at Mountain Midwifery, but now we were heading to Swedish Medical Center, and we were so scared that we’d end up being just another c-section. Thanks to the wonderful Dr. Michael Hall, I still had the chance to deliver vaginally and without any drugs, but I knew I needed help from a pro! In a panic, we searched online for a doula, found Whitney and called her at 37 weeks to talk. The moment my husband hung up with Whitney, we knew she was the doula that would help us get through this together. Suffice to say, I delivered our beautiful daughter Chloe at Swedish, with Whitney coaching all the way. No drugs, no unplanned procedures. Everything was perfect (well, super hard, but we did it!). Whitney literally gave my husband and I our most amazing, memorable experience to-date and gave Chloe a natural, non-drugged start at life. And, she latched right away and we’re still happily breastfeeding along at 8 months! Thank you, thank you, thank you Whitney. You’re amazing!
Whitney was a calming presence for us before and after the pregnancy. Our daughter was one of the only (maybe THE only) birth Whitney has ever missed because little Devyn came so fast. But I am still so glad that we hired Whitney. She gave us great information in the weeks leading up to the birth that made us more confident going into labor and delivery. And I was incredibly glad to see her as they were handing me my baby for the first time as she helped me calm down from the delivery and start breast feeding. She was also invaluable to be able to call in those first couple of weeks when everything baby does is new and scary!
Teddys Birth: A Victory!
The moment i discovered i was pregnant i knew i had to find a doula. Not just any doula she had to have extensive background in VBACS. This was my third pregnancy and i was determined to have this baby vaginally. I had been told with my first birth that anything over 6lbs wasn't doable for me. My Teddy weighed 9 lbs 2 oz! Whitney was there for me from the first interview. She calmed my fears, and gave great advice to put all the balls in my court for the delivery. On March 27th i had an intense labor. It was fast. My contractions started around 5pm. and were a min apart by 7pm. We reached the hospital around 8. I was yelling my head off. I couldn't get on top of my contractions till i decided to just start pushing. Whitney was the only one to notice i was pushing. She didn't tell me to stop or tell anyone i was pushing. She was reading my birthing cues. My husband held my body weight through each surge and Whitney applied pressure to my lower back. I was transferred to the bed and continued my pushing at my pace. I asked for a hot compress for my urethra and my bottom. Whitney got them immediately. Teddys head came out and his shoulder was stuck. The doctor and nurses yelled at me to push. Whitneys reassurance and experience helped me feel secure that my baby would be fine. The nurses applied supra-pubic pressure and Teddy shot out so fast i almost fainted. I had a pretty large tear, but he did come out really fast. He was born at 9:10 pm I am still amazed and in awe of his birth. Our bodies are amazing! I knew i could do it. Whitney helped me take back my power over my birth.
Whitney is amazing and played a pivotal role in making sure my husband and I had the first time birth experience we desired. Being plus size and pregnant you’re placed into certain stereotypes but I was determined to not live up to them. When Whitney came into our lives, with a high recommendation from a friend, she put so many of my concerns at ease. Whitney had more confidence in my ability to have a natural childbirth then I had but over time she helped me to become just as confident. Whitney took us on such a beautiful journey during my pregnancy. My husband and I felt like we learned more from Whitney in our first meeting then we had with six months of prenatal care with an OB. She supported our desire to have a hospital birth but had legitimate concerns about the hospital we had selected. We ended up switching to a hospital with a wonderful Midwife program. She also put me in touch with a plus size Midwife who further eased my concerns and helped to build my confidence. Whitney tapped into our emotions regarding our son’s birth and opened my husband up in ways he hadn’t anticipated. She was quick to respond to any questions or concerns I had via e-mail and always made it clear that she was here for us at all times. When I was in labor Whitney taught me how to ride my contractions like a wave and blow them away. She kept encouraging me to change positions and sometimes I would respond with “no” because I was afraid of the pain but she was always right and I always felt better after I followed her advice. When it came time to deliver she kept pressure on my lower back and helped me to really listen to what my body was telling me to do. Before I knew it my beautiful son was born!
Chris and I did our best to express our gratitude but I don’t think I can ever really thank Whitney enough for her guidance and care during one of the most incredible times of our lives.
We began working with Whitney during my first trimester and we immediately connected with her. Throughout my pregnancy we had frequent meetings and discussions about prenatal care and prepartion for our first natual birth. It was my first pregnancy and she provided us with abundant information and support for a natural birth. I was hoping to have a home birth, but because of health insurance/financial reasons we chose to have a hospital birth. Whitney helped us maintain our desire to have minimal/no medical intervention in the hospital, and was there to support us while laboring at home.
I went into labor on a Saturday night and texted Whitney that I thought this might be the real thing. She was available all through the night and answered all of my questions; she was willing to come to the house at any time. Whitney came to the home Sunday morning and stayed by my side the entire day. We decided to head to the hospital late Sunday afternoon. Whitney was highly attentive to the nursing staff, while continuing to be my advocate and comfort while laboring. She was able to ease my pain (unlike my husband or any family member), it seemed she had every trick in the book for each stage of labor. She helped my husband understand what kind of support I needed and didn't need. Whitney helped me develop confidence in myself and body that I never knew I had; she continued to encourage me that I was "doing this" and I could do it. We had an incredible birth with Whitney by our side the entire way. We plan to work with Whitney during our next pregnancy/birth and highly recommend her because of her vast knowledge and understanding for women's health-childbirth.
Whitney was absolutely amazing, and my husband and I couldn't have been happier with our birth experience.
I knew from the moment I found out I was pregnant that I wanted a natural birth, and I have a friend/doula in my home state that wouldn't be able to attend my birth, so she recommended I find a doula here in Colorado. As soon as we interviewed Whitney, we knew immediately she was the one we wanted. Our views were so similar on many topics, and she was always ready to answer our questions and allay any doubts. My due date was September 4th, and my water broke September 2nd in the early morning, but I didn't actually start having contractions until about 5:30 Thursday morning, the 3rd. From then on, it was a long and difficult 28.5 hours until I had our little girl at 10:02 am on Friday, Sept 4th, her due date. Whitney was right by my side the whole time, offering the encouragement and support that my husband was unable to provide. When he became stressed, Whitney was able to step in and coach me through how to handle the pain. In the end, I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia, which had come on early Friday morning. I had just enough time to fulfill my goal of having Jasmine all naturally and breastfeeding her after birth before I had to be put on the medication. Whitney was by our side the entire time, helping me get Jasmine out and also providing support for my husband and parents. After the birth, she coached me in helping Jasmine getting latched on, and she was a natural! I really feel that this wonderful birth experience wouldn't have been the same without her, and I am so truly thankful for the time, education, and care that she gave to my family. I look forward to the day when we can work together again, hopefully next time with a home birth! Thank you so much Whitney! :)
When I found out about Whitney I was going to be a single mother and did not have anyone for a birth coach who really knew what they were doing. But what I got was even better. She helped me with any question I had before the birth which was nice. It was like having my own expert on hand whenever I needed her. I feel that even though you might have a partner it is so wonderful having someone who really knows what is going on and what to expect. Whitney was not at my birth because my son came on Thanksgiving but Simone was just as wonderful. Having an expert there gave my mom the chance to enjoy my birth and not worry about what to do. Everyone should have a Doula!
we delivered naturally two weeks late and we give whitney full credit for getting us there. we were scheduled to be induced at 6 pm on sunday nov 1 and we went into labor at 1130 am. we were a full two weeks late which was stressful and full of a lot of recommendations and suggestions and pressure from all sorts of people and throughout it all whitney was neutral and objective and incredibly supportive and informative. whenever we were getting pressured to do something she would email or call with resources and information for us to balance the recommendations and help us make our own decisions. in the end we tried castor oil, and whitney was the only one who recommended this but she explained to us why so many people have a bad association with castor oil and we figured we would try it and that is what got our labor going and ensured we had the natural labor and delivery we had hoped for! throughout our pregnancy whitney was always available to answer questions or just provide support -she's sweet and smart and really dedicated and passionate about her work-you can just tell. we met her at a doula info session and she really stood out to us as someone who was both knowledgeable and assertive. she was a great advocate and friend to us. we hope you enjoy your experience with her as much as we did!
We were very grateful for Whitey's help. She was our back-up doula and of course our son decided to come the day before our primary doula got back into town. I had done a ton of research and hired midwives for my VBAC, but still didn't feel comfortable that I would be spared needless intervention from the gyn world. My labor was six hours, most likely because of her help. I wasn't pushing correctly and Whitney got me going down the right track. It seemed that the nurse and the midwife were more obsessed with the monitors than my labor. Whitney was there for me and my husband and baby only. It was hard financially on us to hire a doula, but I was determined to do everything I needed to do to prevent another unnecessary C-section. And it worked! We did it. And I am grateful that I hired Whitney as my back up. She even came post-partem with our primary doula, despite how far away we lived from her. My son is a healthy six-month old now and blowing off the charts with healthy growth. Everyone should have a doula. It could have saved us $3,000 with our first child, since we would most likely not have had the C-section the first time if I'd have the right support of a good doula.
Whitney was an amazing Doula!
First of all, Whitney was the best decision I made to aid in my pregnancy and labor. Along with her compassionate heart and loving spirit, she also has a calming effect. She was a wealth of knowledge too. Whenever I felt a little anxiety or had a question about anything (and I mean anything; medically or even what to pack for the hospital,) she was there to share all she knew. She was also the most amazing angel in the labor room. I swear she pulled tricks out of her sleeves here and there and made my labor experience a dream come true. It was everything I wanted and more. I owe a lot of this to Whitney for preparing me so efficiently and giving me tools to make this the best time for me and my baby. I would say if you are able, hire a doula and of course I think Whitney is the best catch!
After a traumatic experience with my first birth, I knew that I wanted to attempt a VBAC with our second child. During my third trimester another doula recommended Whitney to us. After briefly meeting it was obvious to me that to succeed with a natural birth it was going to take a tremendous amount of strength on my part and an exceptional team. That team would have to include a supportive and knowledgeable doula as well as a supportive staff of midwives. Whitney fit the bill perfectly since she is dedicated and passionate about her job which resonates in her constant availability and coaching. She also led us to an exceptional midwife practice since my OBGYN was not supportive of me attempting a VBAC.
I was diagnosed with Prodromal Labor aka "false labor" weeks before my due date and Whitney spent several nights answering my questions and being on call. She was so supportive and even after my numerous visits to the triage she reassured me that my body was doing what it needed to do to and that I was doing a great job. When I finally went into true labor, Whitney met us at the hospital and coached us through the birthing process. She made sure that my husband and mother had roles as well.
I was in labor for a total of 19 hours. Whitney did what no one else on the team could do- she helped me discover a part of myself that I never knew was there. She called it my inner Warrior. I not only succeeded with my VBAC but I also experienced a spiritual journey within myself. I will be forever greatful to Whitney for taking my hand and guiding me through my fear to an unchartered place of strength within my own self.
I am now in my second trimester. I hired Whitney early on in my first trimester. Afterward, I was really thankful I did. I had a threaten miscarriage when I was six weeks pregnant. Whitney was right there with me through everything. Every questionand concern I had, whitney would talk me through it. When the doctors were being really unprofessional, with my permission Whitney took over and advocated for me. It was through her guidance and reasurance that our family got throught these difficut times. Now I am in my second trimseter and everybody is healthy and we are celebrating life.
Thank You Whitney we couldn't have navigated the medical system without you.
Whitney provided me and my husband with services as our "back-up" doula. She was called to meet us at the hospital on short notice (and on her birthday, no less!). Her support during my first 12 hours of labor was invaluable. Her presence was comforting and she offered many and varied suggestions to help throughout labor. She created a sense of calm around us and gave us information on our options as I began to question my ability to birth drug-free. Whitney possesses a great deal of professionalism as well as personal familiarity which is a perfect balance for someone in this line of work! I highly recommend Whitney; her work as a doula is truly outstanding!
I had a wonderful birth experience with Whitney.
My pregnancy ended up complications, polyhydramnios (excessive amniotic fluid) and my daughter was large for gestational age. At the end of my pregnancy my belly measured at almost 50cm, instead of 39cm matching my 39 weeks of gestation.
Whitney made several long trips to my home to meet with me to make sure we had all the information we needed to have the best birth possible. Whitney regularly checked in on us by phone and email.
In the end we decided on a c-section to ensure healthy mom and baby.
Whitney completely supported our decision and helped us with information on all our options for a c-section and to create a great c-section birth plan. In the end our c-section worked out just as we planned and wanted. It was a beautiful birth with her help, despite it not being as we originally planned. Which was to have another medication free, natural birth as we had with our son. Our birth was quite different, but as or even more wonderful. We ended up with a happy healthy mom and baby.
The post-partum visits and phone calls, along with the help on cost during this bad economy was so helpful too!
Thank you Whitney, you are really the best!!!!
