Hanna is the absolute best. Her ability to quickly build a connection with us, understand our goals & educate us on options before birth, set a solid foundation for our labor experience. Labor is where we felt like Hanna was an essential part of our team. She thought of everything. For example, we wanted a labor room with a tub. She coached us on how to advocate for a room with a tub and when there was only one available in the hospital she knew just how to lock us into that room. When we were admitted, Hanna had already arranged for the tub to be  filled and ready for use. She had vomit bags, essential oils, and new where everything was at the hospital. When we needed supplies for comfort or labor, they always seemed to appear at the right moment. No doubt because Hanna knew us, our desires and was always meeting our needs 1 step ahead.

Hanna played a critical role in our experience with the medical teams. She would help us understand the medical information, distill it down, and also presented us with options or questions we could ask to get more information and ensure our birth experience remained in alignment with our wants and goals. Most importantly, UofM Hospital allows Doulas to go with the birthing person to the OR for  C-section prep while the birth partner cannot. Hannah was an additional advocate in the OR who was familiar with our goals and perhaps more importantly, Hanna was amazing emotional support for the birthing person as the intensity of the C-section prep increased. Hanna was there supporting and guiding us through the C-section procedure. We were scared and it felt intense. In those moments Hanna offered words of affirmation and small nuggets of information that helped us understand how things were going & where we were in the process.

Note to the Birth Partners: Hanna allowed me to support my wife in all of the hard and important moments.

100/100 Work with her!

My husband and I knew we wanted a doula to work as an advocate as we navigated the complexities of a hospital birth. Of all the Doulas we interviewed we felt the most comfortable with Hanna. She had the right balance of practical wisdom, holistic ideals, and evidence based medical knowledge.

We also took advantage of her birthing class, which was helpful in mentally preparing us for the delivery and creating a birth plan. My husband really appreciated being taught the techniques to help relieve my pain and relax me while I labored.

I had to be induced at the hospital and once active labor started (at 1:30 am) I let Hanna know and she came to the hospital right away and helped guide my breathing exercises until my rhythm was established. I remember her giving me the BEST massage during contractions, and honestly she is worth the hire for her massages alone, they helped SO MUCH.
After I had labored for about 9 hours, the hospital staff told me it was time to push, so I tried… and tried, and tried, but I wasn’t making any progress. Hanna could see I was getting exhausted, discouraged, and overwhelmed. She spoke up to the doctors and asked if they could all leave and let me “Labor down” and rest.

After the failed attempt at pushing Hanna had a very frank conversation with me about how the hospital staff never should have forced me to push before I felt ready and there was no rush. Once I was ready to push again I got a lot of confusing advice from nurses and doctors trying to help me find a pushing position that worked for me, nothing was helpful until Hanna called out, “Bethany grab this!” she had fashioned a rope out of towels around the birthing bar for me to pull on. Suddenly I could focus and push effectively and my daughter was born not long after.

I am so glad we had Hanna there with us, her being there made such a huge difference.

Hanna was a fantastic and encouraging doula! She offered a child birth education class as part of her doula package, which helped me feel prepared for labor. She also had great recommendations for books, classes, articles, and social media accounts, and promptly shared evidence-based sources of information for each question I had during my pregnancy. On my delivery day she was present, encouraging, calm, and reassuring, despite having already delivered two babies in 24 hours before I went into labor (she was a backup for another doula and I was two weeks early - I don't want to imply she overbooked herself). She was familiar with my birth preferences, and liaised with the midwives at the hospital to ask clarifying questions to make sure my wishes were respected to the greatest degree possible. She helped my husband engage in providing me comfort, and we all felt confident and ready thanks to her support and presence. The delivery went very smoothly and without medication or intervention, largely because she helped us feel so prepared for the big day. Thank you Hanna for helping us welcome our baby into the world!

Our experience with Hanna exceeded my expectations of working with a doula. As a second time mom, I knew that I wanted a more positive and empowering birth experience that what I had with my first born. I reached out to Hanna with several questions before we even hired her as our doula and she happily answered and gave me lots of information and resources. Hanna took the time to come to our home to meet my husband and son and talk face to face regarding our expectations, concerns, wishes and medical history and preferences.  Hanna encouraged me to ask my provider specific questions that I never thought to ask, which made me feel more prepared and informed. In the few days prior to the birth of our daughter, Hanna and I communicated via text regarding early labor symptoms I had been experiencing and she gave me tips and reassurance. The day my daughter was born, we contacted Hanna when I knew I was starting to have very clear labor signs, then again when we were getting ready to head to the hospital. At the time, Hanna was finishing up at another birth, but her backup doula arrived just minutes after we got to the hospital. Hanna followed shortly after. Hanna ensured we were never without doula support during our birth experience. Hanna was a fierce advocate for our birth plan, my bodily autonomy and patient rights at the hospital when staff began challenging my wishes. She documented every event during the birth process, which came in very handy when we had to file a complaint. Hanna provided endless resources to me during this process, and talked me through every step of the way. Hanna has been an amazing supportive professional and friend that I can ask any question to. Hanna gets answers and gets things done. She  took the time to contact the hospital herself and provide supporting documentation for our incident. I highly recommend Hanna for all birthing experiences. We will not have another birth without her!

Hanna was wonderful to work with. I had a difficult labor with my first baby. Hanna took the time to hear my story, learn my hopes for my second delivery, and offer suggestions to help improve my experience.  She is very experienced in dealing with hospitals and their various policies, and is a fierce advocate for her clients. Her support during labor was fantastic. I ended up with a short, intense labor. I can vividly recall her calm voice and gentle touch as I worked through it. She also checked in after delivery, which made me feel cared for in a system that all but forgets postpartum mothers. She also took beautiful photos of my birth that I cherish. I highly recommend Hanna!

I want to start off by saying Hanna Russo is amazing, she is kind, supportive, knowledgeable, a pleasure to be around, and a seriously talented photographer as well!
Hanna did my recently born daughter's birth photography as well as some light doula work for me and placenta encapsulation. She took the OR Doula class at the Ann Arbor hospital to be extra prepared and ready as I knew I would need a cesarean this time around too.

My entire birth experience was made to feel supported and more comfortable with her there while also  genuinely enjoying her company there as such a bright and kind individual that anyone would be lucky to have as part of their birth team!

I can easily say I would recommend her to anyone looking for any of the services she offers and I am so grateful to have had her as a part of such a special moment in my growing family's lives ♥?

Hanna,

Thank you again, I will treasure these photos and the memories you captured for us with them!

Our journey to pregnancy was long, with lots of prayers and a little help from medicine. The moment I finally got that positive test I knew I wanted to do everything I could to bring this baby into the world, healthy. With my family and support back in Cleveland I knew I needed someone on our team, someone to guide my husband and I though this. I went to Facebook and asked if anyone knew a doula, Hanna responded herself. I went to coffee with her and immediately felt at ease.  I came home and told my husband I needed her to be there when I go into labor. He agreed but didn’t understand and was somewhat skeptical.

For every event, change in my pregnancy and good or bad news we received, Hanna was there with knowledge or a connection that provided that comfort I needed. Her claiming voice, kind spirit and incredible knowledge helped facilitate the greatest gift my husband and I have ever received, our son, Novak.

When she says she’s there for you during labor, she means it. She was by my side for 24 hours while I went though every intervention and hiccup that one could go through with the support both my husband and I needed.

My husband looked at me a few days after Novak was born and said “Hanna was worth every penny, we couldn’t have done it without her, I see the value in having a doula”

Hanna has a special gift and my family and I are truly blessed to have her in our lives.

Hanna was not only a calming and strong presence for me during my labor but also there for me as I prepared for my birth and after I welcomed my daughter. She provided encouragement and a break to my husband during my labor as well when I wasn't in a space to articulate my needs or check in with him. We also had her take photos during the birth and newborn photos. They capture moments I can't fully remember during the birth and special moments at home. Hanna is an absolute treasure and if we decide to have another child would hope to work with her again.

Hanna was truly a gift from God before, during and after the birth of our son. With my only experience to child birth being the emergency C-section of our daughter, her presence brought peace and strength to a situation that can naturally be stressful and chaotic. We are blessed have a soul like Hanna’s in our lives.

Hanna was hired to be my doula for my pregnancy in 2021. However, that pregnancy didn't go as planned and we lost our sweet boy through a missed miscarriage. Hanna was available to me as I needed through the process and she showed a lot of compassion and support.

Fast Forward to 2022 I became pregnant again and once I was comfortable with how this pregnancy was going, I hired Hanna again!

She was wonderful! So encouraging, supportive and knowledgeable before, during and after birth. It was the best decision! Having her at my birth made me very comfortable and able to focus on breathing down my baby during contractions, knowing she was right there. With her knowledge of how the hospital works, she was able to finish getting the tub ready as I was getting closer than anyone realized. I remember when she suggested my husband go get food, which he hesitated and I said yes, go, listen to Hanna. Well poor guy was about to leave, but my tones changed, so Hanna suggested he wait. Thankfully bc he would have missed the delivery.

I also love that Hanna offers her photography services too!

Best investment! We highly recommend Hanna!

Thank you Hanna for EVERYTHING!

From the moment I met Hanna I was immediately drawn to her warm and positive energy. After our initial meeting, she met w/ me and my husband mostly to explain to him what her role would be in my birth and how he can best support me at the same time.

My water broke the day before I delivered, but no labor started. We were in text contact w/ her to keep her updated, and she also kept checking on me. The next morning I was concerned that labor hadn't started and chose to go to triage at 5 am. Even though my baby was content the hospital wanted to admit me immediately start pitocin, which I did not want at all. Hanna gave us resources from Evidence Based Birth and European-based timelines about water breaking and timing to go to the hospital. I chose not to be admitted.

After taking a nap, Hanna suggested using a breast pump to start contractions.  I started at 12 for an hour & took 2T of castor oil. By 2 it was GO time, & arrived at the hospital around 2:50. Hanna got there shortly after we did.  Baby was born at 4:52 pm.

With Hanna's help I was able to avoid the epidural & a lot of other interventions. Through my pain haze she helped me advocate for myself & speak up for me.  I also remember her soothing encouragement while she rubbed my back for some much-needed pain relief as I labored and pushed in the all 4's position.  Unfortunately, I do recall screaming in her face something along the lines of "I don't care what I said, I want the drugs!" She stayed calm & kept telling me how strong I was. Baby was out about 2 minutes later.

She stayed for a few hours, helped me with my latch, and transferred some photos that she took with her phone to us.  Hanna also does placenta encapsulation tinctures. We met with her two days post-partum at our home where she brought my placenta capsules, and to see how I was doing.

I had my first child at home in July 2021. Hanna Russo was a wonderful addition to my birthing team. We learned of Hanna's doula services through our midwife's recommendation.  I decided to hire Hanna later in my pregnancy, mostly for my husband's sake.  He was worried that he may not be able to handle all of my emotional and physical needs during the labor and delivery without becoming overwhelmed or feeling like he "didn't know what to do." Of course, when it was all said and done I clearly hired Hanna for both of us and for my newborn daughter!

From the start, Hanna was extremely responsive, professional and organized. She came to our home and spent a lot of time getting to know us and what our birthing dreams and preferences were.  She answered our questions, shared her experiences, calmed our anxieties and fears.  The biggest thing that stood out is just how at ease she made both my husband and I feel.  Hanna is clearly knowledgeable and adept in her field.

Hanna came to my home as soon as I believed my labor was "ramping" up.  She helped my husband prepare the birthing tub/space, encouraged me through contractions, helped me to relax and encouraged me to sleep/rest when I could. In addition, she took laboring pictures upon my request, played my music, made sure I had everything I needed.

Beyond typical doula services (caring for partners during their labor and delivery) Hanna took beautiful pre-natal photos.  We also hired her to make an art print of my placenta and encapsulate my placenta as well as create a placental tincture.

I am so pleased with my decision to hire Hanna.  If I have another baby, I would be honored to have her help welcome my child into the world.

Hanna was wonderful to work with! I heard about her from my personal doula, and I'm so glad I chose her recommendation. Hanna was very attentive and made the whole process easy. She met us at the hospital to get my placenta and had good communication with us the whole time.  She delivered our placenta capsules back to us the very next day! I feel so good taking these capsules as I feel a positive affect on my mood, my energy, my physical stamina and healing. I notice a difference between taking them versus forgetting to take them. I highly recommend this service and Hanna as your girl!

Hanna was SUCH a blessing to our family! Her knowledge and factual experiences she shared with my husband and I during our prenatal visits empowered us and gave me confidence for a better hospital birth than I had with my first child. My OB had offered multiple times to schedule a cesarean for another big baby, but my faith in God--coupled with Hanna's encouragement and belief in my body's ability ("Bigger the better! Gravity works better for bigger babies!" ha ha)--helped me hold my ground and stand up for the birth I wanted.  I had a natural, unmedicated VBAC with my son, who was 9lbs, 1oz, and I couldn't be more pleased with how Hanna helped us welcome our son into the world.

If you want someone in your corner who will advocate for you, educate, encourage, and ultimately believe in you and your ability to birth naturally as a woman, hire Hanna. You won't be disappointed. When I first suggested a doula to my husband, he was skeptical, but when it was all said and done, he insisted said that she was worth every penny. :)

Thank you, Hanna!

I WISH I could turn back time and hire Hanna for my first two births. There were many problems I had with my second birth in particular that I know would not have happened if Hanna was there. Things you don't always forsee happening like a nurse that wants to fight you in every request and even go behind your back telling the doctor you want something that you really don't. Hanna is your ally and advocate. I know my birth would have been leaps and bounds better had I hired Hanna.

For my third birth, I found out about Hanna, interviewed her, and knew that she was going to be a great addition to my birth team. I knew she would be great but I truly didn't realize what an invaluable asset she would be until my actual birth. If you are on the fence...HIRE HER!!!!

I do not regret for a second having her by my side for my birth. She was so supportive, knowledgeable and I know a big reason I was able to have an unmedicated birth was because of her. My births are long and she was there every step of the way.

She was so supportive with my husband there and gave us alone time--time to bond and work on the birth on our own but was right there anytime we needed her with solutions to problems and never hesitated to let people know my wishes.

I honestly can't say enough about her. I would hire her again in a heartbeat. Seriously, you will not regret hiring Hanna as your doula. The best decision I made for my birth by far.

Hanna is wonderful at what she does. She listens to what you want and really cares that you get the best experience possible. She was very supportive in the birthing process. She was also very helpful after birth with breastfeeding and figuring out when our daughter was tongue tied. She helped led us to find a pediatrician and answered countless questions along the way. We also used her for placenta capsulation and were very pleased.

I hired Hanna to encapsulate my placenta and make some prints. From the first message I sent inquiring about her services she was wonderful. She answered all my questions and kept in communication with me. The whole process was very simple- my husband met her out front of the hospital (COVID) to give her the placenta & then the pills/prints were ready and delivered to my house the day after we came home. The prints were beautiful & she did a few in different colors. The pills came in a closed container with instructions printed on. If you're looking into placenta encapsulation I highly recommend Hanna! I will definitely be looking into her other services if we decide to have a third.

Hanna was a delight to work with at my daughter's birth almost 5 years ago. She was very knowledgeable and upfront about research regarding pros and cons for interventions and was supportive of my choices regardless of what they were. She was a great advocate for me when I was in too much pain or unable to advocate for myself. She was a great support to my husband who was also a first timer. Overall, I have a beautiful memory of my hospital birth and a huge part of that I owe to Hanna for keeping me focused, calm, and hydrated during my birth.

If you are on the fence about hiring a doula, Hanna is definitely the way to go. She is bright, personable, and very easy to talk to, which makes the experience much more enjoyable. Especially when you are in such a vunerable position as birthing a baby.

We contacted Hanna after hearing so many wonderful things about her from other momma friends. After having severe complications during my last birth a home birth was not an option for us. With this knowledge I knew we needed someone to advocate for us in a hospital setting.

From the first time I contacted Hanna I knew she would understood what we needed from a doula. Hanna immediately put me in contact with a U of M midwife who agreed to take me as a patient. This what a godsend!

Hanna helped me navigate all of the questions, tests, interventions, etc. that go along with a hospital birth. She was always on standby, even through two false alarms (I had so many “practice contractions” and the midwife wanted me in the hospital as soon as I felt something so this led to a couple false labors). Hanna was able to talk me through this time of frustration and confusion.

Hanna stood by my choose to non-medically induce and was in constant communication during the process. She arrived at the hospital within a couple hours of birth (I labored very quickly) and set a calming environment for us. Hanna was right by my side ensuring that everything I wanted out of our birth happened for us. It was the best hospital birth experience I could have asked for.

Hanna encapsulated my placenta and came to my house afterwards to check on baby and I, offering advice/ support. I surprised myself at how much I leaned on her for advice throughout, and I’m so glad she was there for me. Having Hanna as our doula was a wonderful experience from start to finish.

Hanna was an absolute godsend. We hired her pretty late in the game once I started experiencing some tension with my medical staff and I began feeling anxious about my impending birth experience. She was incredibly calming, knowledgeable and very easygoing which I really appreciated. Having her support through my labor and postpartum experience was an immense blessing. I can not recommend Hanna highly enough. Hiring her will be one of the smartest decisions you could make for your birth plan.

My husband and I were very pleased with and would highly recommend Hanna as a doula. We knew we wanted a natural birth, but my pregnancy was considered high risk and I was afraid we wouldn't be able to achieve the birth we wanted in a hospital. However, Hanna was very patient and reassuring. She was extremely thorough in meeting with us and emailing us back and forth beforehand to make sure we were on the same page as to what we wanted. She brought experience and a calm, reassuring demeanor that put us more at ease and confident that we would have the birth we wanted.

Once we were in labor at the hospital, it was so nice to have Hanna there. There were lots of decisions to be made and many times my husband and I would look to Hanna for her input; without her there, it would have been easy to give in to pressure from hospital staff that ultimately wouldn't have supported the birth we wanted. Hanna was very encouraging and was able to use different methods to relieve some of the pain during labor, as well as show my husband how to do the same. She was able to fill in for him when he needed a break, and talk him through the labor process. I also remember her asking me if I wanted hot/cold washcloths and water/juice, and providing me with them consistently.

Overall I would say Hanna brought reassurance and peace to our birth and made us more confident in our desire to have a natural birth. Even weeks after the birth of our daughter, she is willing to answer emails with any questions that have come up. We were very pleased to have her as our doula!

When I first was met with the idea of having a doula, I was skeptical. I knew I wanted a different birth than the tramatic one I had with our first daughter. I knew that some things needed to change. I needed to have a more open mind to what could happen during labor and ways to combat the inevitable pain.  I began talking to Hanna, who also happened to be attending a mother's group that I belonged to, and began praying about it.  As I read several articles that she had sent me, I was on board. THIS is what I needed. I needed a support person that would be there to advocate for me, who knew what I had talked about, wanted for my birth BEFORE the pain and craziness set in. I needed someone who would support my husband and myself, allowing us time if needed to make choices..informed choices.

Once my husband and I knew that Hanna would be our doula (after meeting with her and looking over the contract), I was at such peace. And once labor began, she was AMAZING as she answered my endless texts of "Is this normal?" and "Why won't she come out?!" and was absolutely perfect for us as I labored. She met us at the hospital and was gentle, quiet and remembered everything we discussed. Hanna helped to relieve the enormous amount of back pain I had by applying counter pressure to my hips while rotating on the birthing ball. As much as we showed my husband, Hanna just had "the" touch.  She kept me focused as I pushed my daughter out quickly and kept me informed as my husband met my daugther while being attended to by the special care team. She helped me get our first breastfeeding latch and has been an amazing support ever since.  I simply cannot say enough about her and her work as a doula. We fully plan on using her again when we have the next baby!

Hanna Russo was the doula at the recent birth of my son. Here are some of the highlights of working with Hanna . . . 1. Hanna has a calm and nurturing demeanor that put me at ease from the moment we met right through the delivery of my son. She is soft-spoken and reassuring, and her gentle presence would make anyone feel comfortable. 2. Hanna took time to meticulously review our birth plan. She read every word, asked questions, and offered suggestions. She even researched questions we had and sent additional information for us to review before we made final decisions about certain details of our plan. She was careful to respect our wishes while still explaining alternatives to our ideas. 3. Hanna went above and beyond my expectations of a doula. She brought a goodie bag filled with helpful products and information to one of our meetings, and she gave me samples of Mother's Milk Tea after my son was born. She took pictures of our new family immediately following the birth. She touched base with me in the weeks following the birth, taking extra care to ask about issues that were important to me such as breastfeeding. Hanna made herself easily accessible to answer questions both before and after the birth, and I would feel comfortable contacting her in the future if additional questions arise. 4. Hanna worked with my husband to develop a plan for my labor. Together they decided their respective roles so everyone felt comfortable. My husband was relieved to have Hanna's extra help and guidance, and I was thankful that she could provide him with the support he needed. Hanna also helped my husband interact with the hospital staff so he could focus on my needs. She was polite to the nurses while still adhering to the details of our birth plan. She even helped us make unexpected decisions at the hospital. It was a pleasure to work with Hanna Russo, and I highly recommend her to expecting mothers

Hanna was great! We met twice before my birth to get to know each other and also exchanged many emails. At our meetings we made a birth plan and I pretty much was able to make it known what I wanted vs what I did not want at my birth. Hanna was completely supportive. Since this was my first experience w/a Doula I did not know what to expect but Hanna came highly recommended. We had a few visits to the hospital that we thought may of been "it" & Hanna was completely accessible via telephone/text. Because I was not admitted, we did not have her meet w/us at the hospital those times. The day I was admitted though Hanna was there at our call, and stayed by our side until our precious baby was here. She said everything I needed to hear during my labor and delivery, giving us both hope!!

I would very highly reccomend Hanna Russo's doula services.  She transformed our birth experience with our second daughter into something much more lovely than it would have otherwise been. She did a wonderful job of creating a soothing environment, asking thoughtful questions of the medical professionals to help us acheive the natural birth for which we had hoped, providing relief during my labor in the form of massage and pressure and by guiding my pushing with reminders to keep my voice low and breathe through the rushes. She also followed up in both practical and thoughtful ways in the coming days at the hospital and at our house to be sure all was well with me and our new baby.

I had been planning a home birth with a midwife and wasn't intending to have a doula at the birth of my second daughter.  Then, my water broke and my labor started...5 weeks early! My husband and I decided that we needed to go to the hospital instead of having our baby at home as we had planned.  I was very disappointed, and even more so when our midwife was unable to join us at the hospital. My husband and I were preparing to head to the hospital and knew that we may not be graciously received because we had planned a home birth and had done most of our prenatal care with our midwife. I called Hanna and asked her to join us as our doula. It was very short notice, but she met us at the hospital and supported us through the coming hours. Even though the hospital and doctor on call that night had certain requirements that I had hoped to avoid, Hanna helped us make the most of the situation by suggesting options and compromises that would hopefully keep the medical staff content and allow for us to do things more naturally. Hanna did an amazing job as our doula and I would very highly reccomend her services to anyone prepaing for the birth of a child.
