I had my baby 3 weeks ago and I've been trying to come up with the words to explain how grateful I am for Shannon. She was supportive, encouraging, kind, informative, resourceful, etc etc etc. Every single question or concern I had during my pregnancy and post-partum experience she met with validation and useful information. She was there for us  so invaluably during pregnancy, delivery, and the post-partum period. She offers practical advice-baby care, strollers, breastfeeding, "is this normal?". Just as important, she is deeply intuitive and emotionally supportive. I would never have another baby without her! Anyone who gets the chance to work with her is so fortunate.

We came to Shannon after my first labor, which was very poorly managed and ended in an emergency c-section.

Shannon was supportive every step of my pregnancy, through prodromal labor and irritable contractions. When it came time for decisions, her only goal was that I was happy with the outcome. I ended up with an induction, something I swore I'd never try again. And everything continued pretty much exactly how the first labor did, except this time it worked because I was surrounded by a supportive team who listened to my needs. It was the same, and yet oh so different. I couldn't believe it when it was time to push! I truly believe my vbac wouldn't have happened without Shannon.

My suggestion to all expecting moms is "get a doula." Shannon listened to my needs and made sure they were taken care of. She advocated for me constantly through labor. I'm so grateful we found her, and if I ever have another baby, I will absolutely be calling up Shannon again.

Shannon is an incredible doula.  My husband and I feel so blessed to have had her help with the births of both of our children.  Shannon is knowledgeable, compassionate and the ultimate advocate.  She is so accessible and reassuring.  She answered all of my calls and texts very, very promptly and really helped to reduce my anxiety during both pregnancies.  Although I was preparing for a natural birth with my son, the pregnancy ultimately ended in a c-section.  Shannon accompanied me to the operating room, stayed with me through recovery and checked in frequently after the birth.  She was an incredible source of information and reassurance to my family and to me when I experienced an unanticipated postpartum complication.  Shannon recently helped me again through my second pregnancy and the birth of my daughter.  Her calm presence and encouragement were exactly what I needed to help me.  Before I became pregnant, I was totally unfamiliar with doulas, but now I cannot imagine going through a pregnancy without Shannon.  She is the best.

It’s hard for me to pinpoint what it is about having Shannon as our Doula that made her such an amazing part of our experience and I think that’s because it just felt so natural having her there and because she played such an integral role in our birth story.

For my labor, Shannon was definitely the director– she made sure I was always doing something proactive to help the labor progress, supporting me both mentally and physically through roller coaster contractions that seemed to never end, never once judging my reactions to them. I ended up getting an epidural and Shannon made sure that didn’t slow down my labor either and helped me find different positions to get into once it came time to push, something my assigned nurse didn’t think to do.

Once our daughter was born Shannon’s help didn’t stop.  She showed me how to help breastfeed our baby, suggested things we could do to help her reflux and resources to seek for the postpartum struggles for both myself and my husband. I know that had we not hired Shannon, my postpartum depression would have taken longer to lift away and I would not be as mentally stable as I currently am. My daughter is turning four months old next week and she is still one of the first people I think to text when I have a question about something new.

I had previously thought that a Doula was for someone who wanted a completely natural birth and not someone like me, but now I realize that Doula’s are for empowering all parents to have a positive birth experience. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to have Shannon empower me so much that I honestly can’t wait to give birth again with her by my side! I am a true Doula convert and tell everyone I know that they also need to hire a Doula – so don’t hesitate and hire the best Doula in the area before she gets booked up!

I don't even know where to start, other than saying if you are in the market for a Doula stop looking immediately and hire Shannon.  Hands down the best decision my husband and I made regarding our birth and birth plan was hiring Shannon. She made two very nervous first time parents feel comfortable every step of the way. From the very first moment that we met her we knew we made the right decision. Her expertise and knowledge on all things birth related are unparalleled.  She really listens to you as a client and meets you where you are and provides outstanding support. We had some complications near the end of our pregnancy and Shannon never left our side, she was there calming my nerves and holding my hand through it all. Above all she empowers you and supports you in bringing out your own inner strength. She helped me have an inspiring birth that I will never forget. I honestly cannot say enough about how amazing she is, I can't imagine having another child without her by my side.

Shannon was fabulous through both my labor and my pregnancy. She was supportive and informative, always giving me evidence based information and never judging by any decision I made. My labor and birth was quick with many unexpected things, including me changing my mind and getting an epidural although I planned for an all natural labor. Shannon never judged me and supported me every step of the way. She was a great team with my husband to support me during all back labor! I highly recommend Shannon and if we ever have another one (it would sure be a surprise!), we will hire her again!

I could never thank Shannon enough for her involvement in my family's pregnancy journey. She is someone who provided support for both the ups and downs of pregnancy. Our first baby boy entered this world stillborn and Shannon was there from the phone call delivering the bad news, to the hospital photos and through the grieving weeks and months thereafter. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have photos of my beautiful stillborn handsome son. 10 months later she helped bring our rainbow baby, our daughter,  in to the world. Shannon was someone I could contact at anytime throughout my pregnancies. She provided support in many ways and I know she's someone I can continue to count on if needed. She also delivered our labor classes and is an excellent educator. We learned so much from her that I continue to implement as I raise my daughter. Lastly, after having such a tough first birthing experience, she helped me achieve my goal of a natural birth. I've never done something so difficult in my life and I know she was an integral part in my success. You'd be lucky to have her for your pregnancy!! Highly recommended. Love you Shannon!

My husband and I are so glad that we contacted Shannon Kent to be our doula for the birth of our second son, Jesse.  Shannon made the experience so much more informed and made us feel secure about the decisions that we made each step of the way.   Our experience was so much different from when we had our first son, Micah (when we had no doula).  Shannon met with us ahead of time and talked over everything- our hopes for this birth, our fears and also what was most important to us.  She really made us feel supported in what mattered most to us and helped us make decisions that would support what we hoped to get out of this birth experience.  She was very knowlegable not only about birth but also about the hospital itself.  It was great to have her to ask questions that came up about what we might expect when we got there.  She was always available when I contacted her for reassurance and advice and never made me feel like any of my questions were bothersome or silly.  The actual birth itself was great to have Shannon there to encourage me and to help me with different pain relief techniques, breathing, positions etc...  I felt also that Shannon was able to help my husband support me so much better than our first birth by kindly showing him different techniques and what was most helpful.  I would highly recommend Shannon to anyone looking for a great birth support partner.  We gave birth on September 5, 2016 and she truly helped make "Labor Day" so special for our little family!

Hiring Shannon to be our doula turned out to be one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. We instantly fell in love with her. Her passion and knowledge are beyond comparison and she will win you over, too. My first pregnancy resulted in labor three months early, and the possibility of repeating that was continuously on my mind during this pregnancy. I had a ton of questions, and Shannon was able to answer every one, calming my fears. She gave me coping mechanisms, and without her, I am sure my anxiety would have overcome me more than once. She constantly reassured me that all the aches, pains, movements, and Braxton Hicks contractions were normal. On countless occasions she responded within minutes, even if it was the middle of the night. The next morning, she'd always ask how I was doing. At every milestone, Shannon was just as excited as we were, and she cheered me on as if it was her own child.

One of Shannon's biggest strengths is that she wants you to have the best possible pregnancy and birth experience without judgment. She never tried to steer us one way or another, she only tried to give us as much information as possible so that we could make informed decisions. If you are wanting a natural childbirth, she has so many tips and tricks, it will be easier than you ever thought possible. Going into labor can be a very nerve-wracking experience, whether it's your first, second, or even third pregnancy. Shannon not only calms your fear and anxiety, she makes you feel empowered. She gives you that strength when all you can think and say is "no.”

I cannot thank Shannon enough for making this pregnancy everything that I hoped for.

Our experience with Shannon was wonderful!  This was our third baby, but our first experience using a Doula and trying for an unmedicated natural birth.  Needless to say I was nervous and a little fearful.  But SGannon answerEd all my questions and provided lots of great resources to prepare and encourage me throughout the pregnancy.  When it came time for baby to come, Shannon wisely advised us when it was time to go to the hospital, so I was able to labor in the comfort of my own home and not unnecessarily long at the hospital, as in my previous experiences.  She encouraged and supported both my husband and I during the birthing process, making the gift of a natural birth possible for us.  She helped me physically and mentally when I didn't think I could do it.  Afterwards, she helped me to establish a solid breastfeeding relationship with my baby, something I have struggled with in the past.  She continues to keep the lines of communication open and offered to answer any of my questions in the future.  Shannon is an exceptionally caring individual who works extremely well with others, especially the nursing and midwife/Ob/Gyn staff at the hospital; she made my husband feel comfortable and involved as well, and she is highly skilled in her profession.  I would highly recommend choosing Shannon as your Doula!

Having Shannon's support is beyond what I may be able to share with words.  She provided such wonderful ways to prepare for the birth with her suggestions and listening as I provided updates after each appointment.  During labor, I was confident in the advice that she shared along the way.  I was induced and the induction took many days.  As the hospital staff continually shared their information, I turned to Shannon when they left the room to receive her honest opinion.  I know that she was critical in allowing my path to unfold for a vaginal delivery.  I would highly recommend Shannon and am so grateful that she was with me on my path to be a single Mom by choice!

Shannon was our doula for the birth of our son Miles. I contacted her late in my pregnancy and knew it was a long shot considering my due date was fast approaching but Shannon agreed to meet with me. Against what felt like all odds, including the fact that she was going to be on vacation two weeks before my due date, Shannon agreed to work with us. She facilitated back up doulas in case I went early or at the same time as another client. She provided a packet of information about preparing for birth and she discussed with me at length my hopes and fears for this birth.

The night my water broke, Shannon was my first contact. She walked me through each step, staying in constant contact. She encouraged me to rest, eat lightly and stay hydrated. She gave me tips on how to get my contractions moving and once they did, things happened quickly.

My labor was fast and intense. Shannon helped comfort me in ways that I didn't know were possible when I was in the thick of the pain. Shannon talked me through pushing, directing my energy towards my baby instead of the pain. She knew it hurt but she also knew everything that was happening was part of the normal birthing process. She also took amazing pictures.

After giving birth, I had a small issue that needed to be taken care of so that I could begin to feel better. Shannon knew exactly what was going on and didn't look alarmed or scared in the least. It was very painful without an epidural but I had the support I needed. I knew my husband was there but I needed someone who could hold tight and stay strong in a way that only another woman could.

Shannon was great with my husband, she gave him gentle suggestions about what he could do to be supportive. She took a lot of pressure off of him which helped him be fully present in the moment.

We will be forever thankful for Shannon and all of her support! Shannon is the best and I would recommend her services without hesitation.

Shannon Kent is the ultimate doula. She is so knowledgeable about babies and the birth process. We really depended on her during our natural labor and she guided us through the breathing and helped to make the contractions more comfortable through massage and positioning. She even used positioning to help move our baby rather than turning to medical intervention. Shannon cares for you like a friend and is truly gifted at what she does.

I knew that Shannon was the right fit for us immediately-- she is the perfect combination of professionalism and strength mixed with compassion and love. She put us RIGHT at ease-- we knew that we were prepared for birth with Shannon at our side. As it turns out, my little girl decided to come FAST (beware the castor oil root beer float!), so I'm pretty sure Shannon ran every red light on her way to the hospital, but she made it and thank goodness! She not only helped ease my pain but she was even making me laugh during pushing! But Shannon has actually been the most invaluable to us FOLLOWING my birth, when I started experiencing post partum depression. Shannon came to my rescue, and not because she had to or was being paid, but because she cares SO deeply and that is just who she is. I cannot thank her enough for being a rock for me and my family in those first few weeks, going above and beyond for us at every turn, returning middle-of-the-night texts right away, calling to check in, and just being her supportive and understanding self. Thank you, Shannon! Love Katie, Doug and Rosie :)

Having Shannon as our doula was truly a gift. Her passion shines through in everything she does - from answering questions in the weeks leading up to delivery to her irreplaceable support as we welcomed our daughter Clare into the world. Shannon’s presence in the delivery room was positive, calm, and nurturing. Partnered with my husband Jeremy, they made the perfect support system and helped me make my birth plan a reality. We are so thankful that Shannon made her way into our lives and we can’t possibly thank her enough.

With love and thanks,
Alexa, Jeremy, and Clare

I can't imagine how different my labor would have been without Shannon there. Though my husband is supportive, she knew exactly what I'd need almost before I needed it and was able to not only help me, but also help him to be more helpful as well. I told many people afterward that I truly think everyone should have a doula. Shannon was so comforting and reassuring, I don't know if I would have been able to birth naturally without her encouragement. I'm planning to have Shannon attend my next birth, she's the best!

“Two minutes into meeting Shannon for the first time we knew she was the right Doula for us. She has an incredibly calming nature to her, but it’s backed with confidence, perfect for someone that’ll be beside you during the birth of your child. We got to know Shannon really well during our pregnancy, as we were in her childbirth classes that the hospital offered.
She really knows her stuff and goes beyond the labour part of things. I’ve had to ask her several things during my pregnancy and she always has information that goes beyond the typical medical response.
She is so passionate about her job and we are so grateful that she was able to help us in the birth of our special daughter. Thanks again, Shannon!!”

Shanon was the difference between yes and no epidural for me. As labor progresses and exhaustion grows and yes, also the pain, you need a coach, a loving smile and strong hands to get you over the mountains and peaks. particularly with painful back labor, Shanon massaged and really made me feel more comfortable, kept me distracted, moving, changing positions nad most of all, was one of the G-d sent mesengers in bringing my precious baby girl into the world.

My husband and I heard about Shannon while on a tour of the Manchester Birth Center. We knew we wanted a doula to help us through the pregnancy and the birth. At the time it seemed more of a help to myself a the mother-to-be, but in the end she turned out to be a huge help for both me /and/ my husband! Shannon was amazing, she came out to our home for our interview, and throughout the pregnancy she was in constant contact with me for all my questions and concerns. I can say it was very reassuring knowing she was just a text or phone call away, especially when close to my due date, through the labor and after my boy was born.

Shannon is the kindest most personable person I know, she is patient sensitive and none judgmental. The moment I met her I felt like I've known her a long time, and I felt she connected with me and my wants and needs. I knew with her help id be able to get through anything. In the hospital she really shined. If she was not there to help I think me and my husband would have felt lost. I hoped for a drug free natural birth and it didnt end that way, I ended up needed a c-section. I dont think many couples consider how much stress is on the husbands/partners side when a woman is in labor. Im glad she was there for my husband through it and to coach, council and reassure him.

Shannon helped support and guide me through labor and came into the operating room with me and my husband, and she did us the honor of cutting the baby's cord while my husband chose to stay at my side. I recommender her as a doula to any expecting couple!
