I hired Nina for postpartum doula services when I had my baby boy in February 2019. Being my first child, I didn’t know what to expect or how to care for him. Nina visited my husband and I for 2 days after we got home from the hospital, as well as a couple days a week for 2 months after. She helped us with just about everything a new mom encounters - diaper changing, swaddling, how to wear baby in wraps, soothing baby, comfortable breastfeeding positions, etc. Her knowledge of newborns is extensive! In addition to being able to answer ANY question we had, she also provided emotional support for me (mom). Postpartum emotions are real and TOUGH, and I was not prepared for it. Nina assured me that what I was feeling was normal, and that I would get thru it all. She helped me to not feel isolated, by knowing I had someone to talk to...someone who understood what I was going through.
My baby boy absolutely adored her. Much much more than me! Ha ha! Nina showered him with love, held him and rocked him. She is very interactive with babies. I could tell she cared for my son as if he was her own. The first times my son laughed were when she was holding and conversating with him.
The first couple months are a mother’s most vulnerable and fragile. Nina helped me tremendously, and shared such special moments with my son and I. I will always be grateful for her help. We miss you Nina!!
“Sweetheart, this is one of the best investments you made for our family.” said my husband after giving birth to our son. I would highly recommend Bassett Baby Planning for any expecting parents. My husband and I selected May Alice as our Doula when I 6 months pregnant. Mary Alice was not just our Doula but an important part of my support system being a first time mom. Mary Alice was available via phone, text and email to answer ALL of my questions. She not only was very knowledgeable but had a way about her that just put my mind at ease. During labor she was the rock that my husband and I stood on. She would reassure not only me but my husband as well, in my power and ability to birth our baby.
GET A DOULA LADIES...You’ll thank me later : )
After hearing several frightening birth stories from our friends and family, my husband and I decided to hire a doula to guide us through the birth of our first child. Upon my initial call to BBP, the team quickly arranged for my husband and me to meet the doulas available for our delivery date.
I had 3 goals for our birth experience and sought a doula that could help us make those goals a reality: 1. educate and guide, enabling me to wholly participate in my own labor and delivery, 2. ensure my husband was actively involved in the end-to-end journey and 3. Have as natural of a birth as reasonably possible. My husband and I immediately adored Karenmarie after our initial consultation and were confident that she could easily help us achieve these goals. Karenmarie is realistic, honest, and candid, drawing from a wide range of birth experiences (both her own personal experiences and advocating alongside her clients). She eased our anxieties regarding childbirth and replaced them with a sense of comfort.
Throughout our prenatal, l&d and postpartum visits, Karenmarie proved invaluable. She was readily available to talk following my prenatal doctor’s appointments, she checked in with me regularly during early labor and provided guidance on how to progress quickly to the next stage of labor. At the hospital, Karenmarie’s coaching, counter pressure and relaxation techniques enabled me to avoid several undesirable medical interventions and deliver our perfect baby boy less than 5 hours after arriving at the hospital. We also admired Karenmarie’s professionalism in working alongside the nursing staff, enhancing the experience for all. We are confident that Karenmarie helped us achieve our best possible birth experience. We have only beautiful memories surrounding the labor and delivery of our baby boy and have Karenmarie to thank for those memories. We can’t wait to hire Karenmarie again once we are pregnant with our second child.
Susan made the difference between us having the unmedicated birth that we wanted, versus possible interventions that we didn't.
Our birth lasted 30+ hours from the first contraction. Susan met us at our home at hour 10 and stayed by our side at our home and at the hospital from 1pm to 8am the following day.
Susan was always there with encouraging and reassuring words, with different suggestions for progressing labor, and was a positive and experienced force. Susan provided relief for me (husband) and my wife never felt alone.
Susan's experience in massage was invaluable and her ability to provide thoughtful counter pressure was soothing.
Susan played a star role in the biggest day of our lives. We cannot convey our gratitude towards her enough.
Hiring Susan was the best decision we made to ensure our birth experience would be as we wished.
Thank you Susan!!
Mary Alice Martin was my wonderful doula. I am writing this review because I booked her due to other positive online reviews! She was absolutely amazing! As a first time mom and my husband as a first time father, we didn't know what we were doing. With Mary Alice, I was able to completely achieve my birth goals. We met three times before the birth and went over everything. She was available by text whenever I had a silly or serious pregnancy question. She was there for me physically, pushing on my hips (I had back labor) for counter pressure through every single contraction for 18 hours of labor (!!!). She was there emotionally, encouraging me through the most exhausting yet exciting time of my life. She is so down to earth and will support you no matter what birth you want! She was the best!
We were referred to BBP from some friends of ours that had used them 7 months prior, and we are so grateful to them for leading us to BBP. Everyone there is amazing, sweet and helpful. We went to the meet the doula night and chose Mary Alice as our doula. She was our doula for our first baby born last month. I can’t say enough how amazing she was through the entire process from the consults to the labor and delivery. After the birth, I truly felt like I couldn’t have done it without her. She helped make an extremely long and painful labor so much more manageable. Being that it was our first baby, my husband appreciated having her there as well so that he could be as helpful and supportive as possible. Overall, we wouldn’t change a single thing about the birth of our first baby and hope that we will be able to use Mary Alice again for future births.
I chose Mary Alice at Bassett Baby Planning to be my doula for the birth of my first child, and I am so thankful that I did. From our first meeting, I knew Mary Alice was going to be a great fit for my husband and me. She is a unique and refreshing blend of professionalism and personality. As far as labor, she was 100% essential to my natural birth - we truly could not have done it without her. She offered amazing contraction coaching, massaging and body position recommendations and acted quickly to help remedy my nausea. My husband was very involved during the labor and did not feel like Mary Alice was taking his place. She was there to support the both of us. Should we decide to have another child, we will definitely use her again.
From the time we went to the Doula's office we felt welcome. Mary Alice provided me and my husband with lots of knowledge before the birth and was there every step of the way during birth. At times, the nurses would be doing things that I didn't understand so she took the time to explain what was going on. I highly recommend Basset Baby Planning and Mary Alice for your Doula needs.
We had a wonderful birth experience with our second child after we decided to have Mary Alice join us on our birth journey! My first delivery was quite challenging and the physical recovery made it difficult to enjoy the process. I knew we would need to do things differently the second time around and felt a path with as least medical interventions as possible would make a huge difference. I couldn't have accomplished this without Mary Alice! From the moment she started working with us she was able to offer me a wealth of knowledge and support that would help make my labor and delivery an amazing experience. She was there every step of the way and I cannot recommend her enough! I was so present mentally and physically rhroughout my entire labor and delivery and was able to enjoy my baby immediately!
Mary Alice Martin was our labor doula and I honestly don't know what we would have done without her. She was incredibly knowledgeable about pregnancy and labor. Since this was our first child I was really nervous about the labor. She provided reassurance and was instrumental in helping make our birth experience wonderful! I highly recommend Mary Alice to my friends. We will definitely be using her for any future births. Thank you so much for everything!
Mary Alice was wonderful to have all throughout my pregnancy, and my seemingly never-ending labor. She was friendly and helpful at the prenatal appointments, and stuck around for the entire two days of labor at the midwife's house, and then for the unplanned trip to the hospital at 4am. I couldn't have done it without her. She still checks in on me 9 months later!
Susan Young was our doula during the birth of our daughter (and first child) on 2/2/2017. My wife had a vaginal birth, no complications, and we owe this to having Susan as our coach and champion.
We count Susan as family now. Her experience, passion and dedication CANNOT be quantified in dollars!
Words cannot truly express how outstanding Mary Alice Martin was as my birth doula! Truth be told, I didn’t know what a doula was when I first became pregnant, much less anything about pregnancy, labor, or babies! So, naturally I wanted to make sure I had the most qualified, experienced doula I could find. I interviewed with several different doulas before being referred to Baby Bassett Planning. After my first face-to-face consultation with Mary Alice, I was extremely impressed, not only in her background and knowledge on all things babies, but also how professional and personable she was. And, once I went into labor, she more than exceeded my expectations. Without her invaluable guidance, coaching and support for both myself and my husband, I wouldn’t have been able to labor at home for 24 hours before going to the hospital. She not only helped me stick to my natural birth plan for 26 hours before I finally decided to get an epidural, once I received the epidural, my labor stalled, and it was because of her recommendations on how to naturally progress my labor (not my nurses and doctors, who were quick to suggest a c-section), I was able to have a vaginal delivery. Mary Alice was such an integral part of making the birth of our first child such a positive and rewarding experience, and I could not recommend her more highly.
We had a wonderful experience with Bassett Baby Planning. Nina and the whole team were amazing, creating nurturing and supportive atmosphere throughout our journey of becoming parents. We used doula, prenatal massage therapy and infant massage services and every time it exceeded our expectations. Our doula Chaya Hagler has been a tremendous help for us in preparation and the birth of our son. She is knowledgeable, supportive, caring doula and massage therapist with great experience, who is truly passionate about helping parents having the birth they want. We are so grateful she was by our side through this special journey.
We loved Bassett Baby Planning. We had Rachel Y. for a doula, and she was a warm and knowledgeable doula from the start. She guided us through every step of the childbirth preparation process, and we found her knowledge augmented what we were learning at childbirth classes at the hospital. The best feature of her service was her availability to us in the days leading up to delivery. She frequently checked in, helped us to interpret symptoms, and kept us from having to call the doctor every 5 minutes. During delivery, her reassuring presence was palpable, and she helped us both to feel that someone was there to guide us through. Her concrete techniques for managing the pain of childbirth helped dramatically, and her postpartum care was sensitive and celebratory!
We both highly recommend her and would use her again!
We had a fantastic experience working with Bassett Baby Planning! We worked with Rachel as our birth doula and she was amazing. With her help I was able to make it confidently through labor and delivery without ANY medication. She was so helpful throughout the process, letting me and my husband know what to expect and supporting us both. I know my husband felt so much more at easy knowing that there was a seasoned veteran who was there on our behalf. I know I felt so much more at ease having Rachel by my side, giving me pep talks, applying heat pads, and looking out for me. Cannot recommend her highly enough!
For a first time mom there are a ton of unknowns going into pregnancy and birth. I was unaware of what a birth-plan even was until I hired my doula, Mary Alice. She is a very experienced and knowledgeable doula, exceeding all of our expectations - we couldn’t have asked for a better birth experience!!! My pregnancy was pretty simple but I was a bit nervous about what was to happen when I started going into labor, even though we felt prepared. If it were not for Mary Alice, we would have rushed to the hospital too soon and the birth would have gone a different way. Our doula was so incredibly calm and encouraging both towards my husband and me throughout the whole process. She was very aware of my needs, kept me informed the entire time of what was going on, and acted as my advocate in the hospital, so I felt calm and in control. She was also very helpful in guiding my husband on how to comfort me during the entire labor and birth. All of these things are so invaluable and we are so grateful for this amazing experience. We highly recommend Mary Alice and Baby Bassett Planning!
When we found out we were pregnant with our first child, I immediately knew I would need all the help I could get! I was adamant that I wanted to have an unmedicated child birth and through research decided the support of a doula would be a wise decision. My husband and I originally hoped the roll of our doula would be to help advocate on our behalf and guide us through working with the hospital to acheive our goals. We went to a "meet the doulas night" at Bassett Baby Planning and I felt immediately in sync with Chaya. When we eventually chose the untraditional option of having a homebirth, Chaya was so encourging and was an incredible support to us! She was a great guide leading up to the birth.
When the day finally came, my husband was busy fielding phone calls from our midwife and other members of our support team, which suprisingly left him little time to be focused fully on my needs. Chaya was able to fill this roll beautifully! She was there to help message my back, and was a hand to hold, well - squeeze, when I needed it. She was so kind and gentle in reminding me to breath and helped me through contractions. I remember toward the end of labor, when it was really tough, she provided the most amazing aromatherapy - it was just the right thing at just the right moment! She was even able to help when the baby was delivered by providing supplies to the labor assistant (seriously above and beyond). I felt so confident having her there. Once the baby was born, Chaya was so amazing by making sure I had water, she even spoon fed me yogurt to help replenish my strength. There was so much commotion when the baby was born, all the focus was on the baby (as it should be) and on my physical postpartum needs, but it was so nice to have Chaya there to help me through the rest of it (ie: water, food, please help me fix my hair). She was such an amazing support and I could not imagine going through labor without her!
My husband and I were looking for a doula for the birth of our first child in Houston since we are away from home and lacking emotional and physical support. We spoke to a couple of doulas but eventually decided on Tatiane because she is well- informed and knowledgeable about natural birth. She is also extremely patient and supportive.
My daughter arrived early and though she was on call with another mother for 48hours before that, she still came to my labour and supported me through the last moments of delivery. Her professionalism really impressed me.
She was supportive and reassuring throughout and it was really comforting for my husband and I.
We are really thankful for Tatiane and would definitely recommend anyone looking for a doula!
We met with Mary Alice to discuss our labor plans a couple of months before our due date. We immediately felt a sense of control and compatibility with her as her experience and willingness to listen to our concerns put us at ease. Her credentials were comforting and gave us a sense of security to put our trust in her to be with us on the day of delivery. We especially appreciated her helping us construct a labor and delivery plan to take to the hospital. My labor started around 5 am. We waited to contact Mary Alice until early afternoon. We began texting around noon and she encouraged us to labor at home as long as possible in keeping with our written plan, and we agreed she would come to assist us as contractions became closer and stronger. When my water broke at 5 and contractions started becoming more serious, we decided to head to hospital at 6:30. Mary Alice met us there.During the harder labor, she assisted by providing aids to help when contractions became more difficult, such as encouraging me to labor over the ball, and massaging my back, shoulders and pelvic area during contractions. I needed that help, and she was right there to provide it. She advocated for me when the nurse came in and I couldn't deal with her.During transition, I was considering throwing in the towel and going for an epidural (NOT a part of the plan). Mary Alice continued encouraging me, letting me know the finish line was in sight. That was the most important part, hearing that we were getting there at the time when I didn't believe it. Mary Alice was always calm, always present without intruding. She continued to keep my husband in the loop. We delivered without medical intervention, as per our birth plan, because she was there to help and assist and encourage every step of the way. She also took photos of the delivery and came to visit and check in with us after we were home. I would recommend her to anyone considering a doula.
When it came to having my first baby, I didn’t know much, but I did know that I wanted to have a natural birth. When looking into how to have a successful natural birth most anyone would suggest a doula. Bassett Baby Planning made finding the right doula and the dream of having a natural birth such an easy reality. My husband and I chose Mary Alice as our doula after our first meeting with her. She was more like a long time friend than a birth coach. She never shied away from any of our questions and was full of wonderful suggestions for pregnancy, Doctors, hospitals, and even pediatricians around the city.
Mary Alice was with us every step of my labor and delivery. She was in direct contact with my husband while I labored at home and it helped my confidence immensely. I live well outside of the city and Mary Alice drove to my house and to the hospital multiple times to be with me through an extremely long labor. She held our hand and never once made us feel like she was taking over the situation. My husband and I know we wouldn’t have been as confident going into labor and with our delivery decisions if Mary Alice wouldn’t have been with us. My husband, myself, and our families will always be grateful for Mary Alice being with us for the birth of our son.
We had a great experience working with Bassett Baby Planning. They were always easy to work with, positive, professional, and flexible to accomodate any requests for postpartum doula support. We truly loved our time with Susan as our postpartum doula. She started work early by proactively sending excellent guides and helpful references a couple of weeks before our child's birth. During our time in the 8 weeks following, she went above and beyond to help us with all aspects of life with a new baby including anything from helping calm our baby to infant massage to babywearing to helping with baby laundry and much more. Most importantly, she provided lots of helpful tools and insights into the educational and developmental aspects of babies. Each time we saw her, we learned something new! We also had her assist us a number of times overnight which helped us get much needed extra sleep. I would highly recommend this agency for postpartum doulas!
Mary Alice was very helpful with the pre birth edcuation, planning and the labor process of our first child. I would highly recommend her to anyone that needs education and support if they are having a baby. My wife was able to have a natural birth without an epidural and I was given the right knowledge and understoodd my role to better to help my wife during the months leading up to the delievery and the delivery itself. She was there in the delievery room which not only decreaased my stress levels but also gave my wife another support system. Our birth experience was a very positive one and Mary Alice was one of the reasons why.
My experience with Susan Young was AMAZING!! There is no way I would have another child without having her by our side. We had a very long labor 24 hours and Susan never left, was supportive and informative at every step of the way. She went above and beyond to perfectly incorporate my husband into the whole process and really engaged him, to where he got to have just as much of the experience as I did, well not quite...LOL To share an intimate moment like this with someone is very special and I am so glad that we chose Susan to share our experience with, she made what could have been a total stressful disaster into a manageable situation. I highly reccomend her services to any one interested in hiring a doula!
We hired Tatiane as our doula because of her calm, patient demeanor. When we interviewed her, she listened carefully to our concerns and needs. We wanted our baby to be born with as few medical interventions as possible with the ultimate purpose and goal being a vaginal delivery.
I had the best labor and delivery imaginable, and it would not have been possible without Tatiane. From the first contraction, Tatiane was texting us and ready to join us as soon as it was necessary. Tatiane came to our home at around 4:30 a.m., and assisted me in our home through each contraction. We left for the hospital around 6 a.m. She followed us there and continued her care as we made our way to the labor and delivery room. Each time I had to stop walking for a contraction she would pause with me and support me through it.
Throughout the remainder of my labor (even after having an epidural), Tatiane offered suggestions for changing positions, provided massage, and gave encouraging words. She allowed both my husband and my mom to help me as well. I am certain that this part of the process would not have been bearable if it weren't for Tatiane.
At 5:43, I delivered a healthy baby girl. The entire experience was magical. It brought me and my husband closer together. It was calm and peaceful. And ultimately I was able to achieve my goal of delivering a heathy baby vaginally.
After the delivery, Tatiane stayed to help with breastfeeding. She also sent us a beautiful slideshow of photos that she had taken throughout the day of the birth.
I am thrilled that we had Tatiane to support us on our journey. She is an incredible doula and a person who will always be in our hearts.
Tatiane was our back up doula for our birth. However, she quickly became our most trusted advisor and support person. My birth was very long and ended in a c section which was emotionally draining as we had a natural birth planned. I could not imagine going through the birth experience without the support of Tatiane. It was also great to have her visit after the baby was born.
Susan Young, with Bassett Baby Planning, provided myself and my wife–new parents–with pre-birth education that prepared us well for our son's arrival. During labor, we remained calm and confident about our decisions even when circumstances changed because all the while, Susan used her expertise to coach us through the challenges we faced and her grace to help us keep perspective. Her steadyhandedness and massage prowess also proved to be a comfort to my wife and to myself. I wholeheartedly recommend Susan Young for birth doula services.
Bassett Baby Planning is a wonderful resource for expectant and postpartum parents. Susan Young, our doula, was compassionate, helpful, and highly attuned to our needs. In addition to the birth doula services, we availed ourselves of massages (pre and post-partum) and childbirth classes. We'd definitely recommend Bassett Baby Planning to our friends and family!
Choosing Bassett Baby Planning was the best decision we made! We just moved to the area and BBP made us feel like family from the moment we called Nina was fantastic getting us set up with our Doula. Our Doula Mary Alice was more than amazing. I can honestly say if it wasn’t for Mary Alice our birth experience probably would have turned into a nightmare. Mary Alice was encouraging, empowering, motivating, supportive of our decisions, and level-headed. She not only set an encouraging, peaceful tone at home but she also set a soothing tone we needed for being in a hospital. I dread everything about hospitals and didn’t really want to have a hospital birth but with Mary Alice by our sides she set the tone for a wonderful experience. I have a hard time expressing how grateful I am to Bassett Baby Planning and our amazing Doula Mary Alice.
Our postpartum doula, Mary Alice, was a Godsend when we needed it most! She was so helpful with our new baby AND with me as I recovered from childbirth and adjusted to being a new mom again. She is so kind, knowledgeable, reliable and very hardworking! I always looked forward to the evenings Mary Alice would come knowing that I would have someone I trusted to assist me. I don't know what we have done without her!
We worked with Chaya through Bassett and could not be happier! We had a doula with our first birth and had a somewhat disappointing labor process and unfortunately the doula we hired was unable to be there, so through my hardest parts of labor I was being supported by a stranger. I really wanted to have a better experience for my second birth but was unsure if a doula would be worth it again. Needless to say I am VERY happy we hired Chaya! I didnt realize I had not fully gotten over my dissapointment in my first birth experience, but Chaya helped me through those feelings and relieved some of the big concerns I had going into my second birth because of my first experience. Chaya is extremely well educated, and as a second time mom who did everything to educate herself the first time around, I still found Chaya teaching me useful laboring information. The best part about my experience with Chaya is she truly listened to who I am as a person and what my husband and I needed out of our doula, and really honored that! Every step of the way she was kind and reassuring and I think truly set me up for success in achieving my goals for this second birth. I think the best kind of doula is the one who sets you up for success ahead of time, and then is there to support you and help you navigate the hiccups during the actually labor. I started terrified that I would have another bad experience and ended up going into the hospital knowing that I could have a great experience no matter what happened. That was truly the magical part of my interactions with Chaya! Chaya made me feel confident enough to birth at home longer this time and be as comfortable as possible, helped me decide when to go into the hospital, and navigated smoothly the interactions with the hospital staff and my labor. I am so thankful Chaya was a part of our labor and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a kind, flexible, knowledgable, and effective doula!
Karen DeSimone, my doula from Bassett Baby Planning, gave me some much needed comfort and answers to all my questions (and there were many!) about my first pregnancy and child birth. My situation was unique as I communicated with Karen from abroad before coming to Houston at 35 weeks. She made herself available for Skype dates, talked through my birth plan, gave suggestions for different positions that would alleviate my back pain and pointed me to resources that helped build my confidence. When it came time to deliver my daughter, Karen was at the hospital from the beginning, helping guide me and my husband through the delivery and birth. She did not leave my side. She advocated for me, massaged me, got me through every single decision I had to make--not only that, we shared some laughs and stories along the way. I feel incredibly close to her--she so gracefully provided to me the support I needed to get through the delivery. We feel blessed as a family for having her--Karen is a natural at this. As I have told her already, this is her calling!
Let me start by saying that I never knew that there were so many options when it came to delivering a baby. It started for me when my girlfriend was pregnant. She decided to do a water birth with a midwife and a doula. I had never heard of this. She told me to watch the documentary made by Ricki Lake. That opened my eyes to natural birth. When I finally got pregnant I started to do my research and decided that I definetly wanted to do a natural birth, but decided at a hospital. I heard about BBP from a friend and went to meet the doulas night and met Susan. My husband and I instantly loved her. She is incredibly smart, kind, funny and you could tell she loved her job. We decided that we wanted to have Susan be there when I went into labor. We had 3 prenatal appointments with her. She asked what we wanted for our birth, explained everything extremely well, and taught my husband counter pressure to help when the delivery happened. We also took the birthing class at BBP which we found so helpful. It really explained the birthing process and it was great because it was a smal,l intimate class where we felt comfortable asking questions. The start of my birth didn't happen exactly how I imagined it. My water ended up breaking at the hospital when I went in to be monitored after a fall. Once they admitted me I called Susan and she came right away. I would not have been able to do it without Susan and my husband. She knew I wanted a natural birth and did everything she could to make me comfortable. She put me in different positions, I got in the shower, and even when it got extremely tough where I didn't think I could do it anymore she stayed positive and coached me through it. She massaged me for 18 hours of labor, and only left the room twice! She took pictures and documented how my labor progressed the whole time. She worked great the my doctor and the nurses. I'm so glad I got the birth I wanted, Thank you Susan and BBP!!
I am writing about the wonderful experience I had with your company and the postpartum doula that was offered to me and my family during the period after my twins were born. The doula’s name is Shelby Vela and she was instrumental in our lives. We were so blessed to have her, and I know any family that gets her as their doula will feel the same way. In addition to our new baby twins we are also blessed with two other children ages 8 and 5. The birth of our twins has been a very exciting time for us. It also has been a big adjustment for our family as there are so many moving parts in the dynamics of our family life. I knew that getting rest would be challenging with twins but also very important as my older children needed their mother to be present and equipped to help them through the transition as well. Having Shelby as our nighttime doula enabled me to breast feed and/or pump but free me to get more rest than I otherwise would have. She could diaper and tend to the twins needs during the night leaving little up and down trips to the nursery for me. She also would bathe them, clip their nails and cared for them so sweetly. I immediately trusted Shelby with my babies and could rest well knowing they were well cared for. Shelby was a joy to have in our home and began to feel like one of the family. I would not have had it any other way. Most importantly, Shelby learned much about my babies and could pin point their growing changes and needs. It was comforting having someone experienced and knowledgeable with babies. They are very content and happy babies and I believe this is in large part due to the care they have received in their first months of life. We have enjoyed this experience immensely and are very grateful to Baby Bassett Planning for the quality of service and especially the opportunity to have Shelby be a part of this wonderful time in our life.
Nina is amazing. I had no idea what to expect from her as a doula but she went above and beyond to make my birth experience smooth. This was my first birth, and Nina was always there when I had questions- no matter what time it was. I had a false alarm, and Nina followed through the days following to make sure I was okay.
I have no doubt that the doulas that work at Basset are just as good. I went with Nina one because I had no time to interview the other doulas and two she came with such a strong recommendation. I experienced other services at Basset and had a chance to meet another doula who I was very impressed with her. I think I would have a hard time picking if I actually interviewed all of them.
All in all, I would totally recommend Nina and everything she offers.
I have used Nina, from Bassett Baby Planning for the birth of both my son and just recently my daughter. Nina is a fantastic Doula. She listen to me and help me develop an idea of what kind of birth I wanted to have. She allowed me to have a wonderful natural birth experience with my son. With my daughter we were able to tweek some of the issues I had with my son's birth (not having pitocin was the big one) and have another wonderful natural birth. Nina is a very compassionate, positive, strong person. She pushed me through my low points during labor. She is a little ray of sunshine that can motivate you to do anything. My husband and I would never have a baby without her.
I also used Nina for prenatal massages, labor induction massage and postpartum massage. She is a wonderful massage therapist, and makes you feel very comfortable. I highly recommend using her for massage, her doula services or postpartum services. You will not regret it. I wilil use her again, if my husband and I decide to go for number 3.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Bassett Baby Planning and our amazing Birth Doula, Susan! Susan was an integral part of our pregnancy and birth, and our entire experience would not have been the same without her. Although we had a birth that did not go according to plan, Susan was there every step of the way! We cannot wait to use Bassett Baby Planning in the future and have Susan attend our additional births!
I am so thankful for Susan being there for me durning my birth. Her calm presence was reassuring when needed the most. She helped guide my husband on ways to help me durning labor and she helped us prepare for what was to come. I'm not sure I would have had the strength to see through my desire of a completely drug free birth without her reassurance and encouragement.
What a phenomenal experience! The whole crew at BBP, and especially our Doula, Susan, made the birth of our first child a true joy. Having recently moved to Texas we were aware of the shockingly high cesarean rates at local hospitals and we knew we would need an Advocate to press for our wishes of a natural, unmedicated birth. In addition to being that buffer for us, Susan massaged and comforted me the entire 12 hours of my labor. Her services were invaluable and I truly don't know how I would have made it through without her. She has talented hands, a warm heart and knows the power of positive, encouraging words.
I think other parents (and yes you Dads too) need to know just how special our experience was thanks to Nina and the Bassett Baby Planning Team!
Both mom and I were on the same page (luckily) about the kind of Birth we wanted (including Home Birth) however we had LOTS of questions and were pretty much 'in the dark' about the whole process and a bit anxious. From the first meeting with Nina we knew that we had found our partner and friend to help guide us through the process of becoming parents and having a Home Birth, just as we envisioned! Nina helped shed light and demystify the whole process for us and we felt like we were sitting with an 'old friend' from that first meeting on, how could ya not just love this gal! :)
Nina and her team were our pregnancy and birth partners throughout and the added services like the 'Hypno Baby' classes, essential oils and nutrition, etc were all very helpful and much appreciated, Nina and her Team are there to educate, support and empower parents
Our Birth-Day was really a special experience...well once Nina got there at 2am in the morning that is (very promptly after my 'frantic' phone call as Momma was having her birthing waves closer and closer and I was running around house, filling birthing pool with water, etc...) when she arrived and walked through the door (to BIG smiles of relief from Dad and Mom) she took control of the situation and in her calm, assertive, sweet nature! From that point on and as the rest of the Team arrived we really could not have asked for a better Experience, it truly was 'Magical' and we are so so grateful to Nina and the BBP Crew, we truly cannot thank you guys enough for making our special day just that....so Special!
They say Doulas are for the Moms, but Dads between you and I...i gotta tell you, it was the best decision not only for mom but for me as well, no way I could have done this without Nina and her Team! :)
I don't normally post testimonials, but felt compelled after such a wonderful experience with Bassett Baby Planning. I was very nervous about handling my toddler and a newborn after my scheduled c-section, so decided to hire a postpartum doula for a little extra help. My only regret after the experience is that I didn’t hire one after having my first child! Nina and her team put me at ease during my postpartum healing weeks and left me empowered and confident in my new role as a mother of two. Nina’s knowledge of everything related to motherhood was immediately apparent. From assistance with baby wearing and breastfeeding to newborn care and easing my toddler’s transition into big sisterhood, she was incredibly knowledgable, warm, and nurturing. Her team was consistently energetic and up for any task that would help me. I will forever sing their praises to anyone who will listen! This is a first class operation and all moms deserve the care and attention these devoted doulas provide!!
As a first time Mom, I was recommended to BBP by my doctor and feel so thankful we were able to have Nina assist us in the birth of our daughter. Having a doula, in a hospital setting, was the best of both worlds for our family. Not only did we have her support which helped us prepare prior to our daughter's birth, but having Nina in the delivery room truly changed the course of my delivery. I would not have had the amazing experience I did without her there! Not only was Nina by my side before and during delivery, but she stayed afterwards to assist us during the "golden hour" to begin breastfeeding which was so important to me. She was also able to capture priceless photos and labor/birth details (such as important times to note, quotes during labor, how I labored, etc) we would not have otherwise had during delivery. Nina's postpartum visit was so wonderful as well; she was able to help answer all my questions and really felt like a friend who had the experience and answers I was needing during that first week home. Also, I cannot say enough about how much Nina also supported my husband by being there for me. You can read his perspective below:
As the husband to a first time mother who desired having a natural birth I could not have imagined not having Nina's support and guidance. She helped me every step of the way through a beautiful experience that I do not think would have occurred without her. During delivery, she begin working with my wife on more suitable positions, breathing patterns and counter pressure and the decrease in pain that my wife was experiencing prior to was immediately noticeable. I was able to follow Nina's lead and truly enjoy my daughter's birth instead of questioning myself and being unsure as to whether or not I was being the supportive husband that I wanted to be.
Thank you, Nina! We are so thankful!
After my first birth I knew I needed a doula. My husband was with me but I needed someone who could really help me through labor and delivery which is truly laborious. Mary Lingwall helped ease my fears in our prenatal meetings and was THE determining factor in me having a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). I could not have had such a successful and rewarding labor without her by my side. The birth of a child is such a special event and I believe all women need someone "in the zone" with them so see them through.
I highly recommend Nina as a doula if you are looking for someone with huge experience, amazing personality and very professional.
As a first time mom to say that I was super anxious and scared is to say nothing:)
Finding and meeting Nina was a delightful experience, she was very patient with all my questions and was very prompt in our e mail and text communication in between appointments.
I did private educational classes and Nina did an amazing job teaching me the basics and calming down my fears. I loved every minute spent with Nina during our preparation to my child birth.
Due to family circumstances I had to move last moment out of Houston so Nina was not my birth Doula but she was there for me via text to give me her advice when I had question come up as far as my birth options closer to delivery.
Her office is super lovely, just like Nina is and all her stuff is amazing as well.
One last word to consider if you are hesitant to hire Nina or not.
I went to get a prenatal massage at one nice center for mothers in Houston and one lady there told me that she is dreaming to be working for Nina because she has such a great reputation among doctors as a doula and she would love Nina to be her Mentor.
In all honesty, I didn't know what a doula was going to do for us and wasn't completely on board with it. My wife and I wanted minimal attendance at our home birth with our midwife and assistant.
Here's what I've learned. Nina is an absolute gem. My wife and I began educating ourselves about the benefits of having a doula and subsequently interviewed several. Nina stood out because she took time to educate us on the process and expectations. She's truly passionate about her work and it shows.
In retrospect, I can say that there's no way we could have had such a beautiful experience without Nina. As soon as she got to our home, she immediately stepped in to help my wife get through each contraction. Using counter-pressure and massage, she was able to help my wife progress with each contraction.
Nina was absolutely essential. As first time parents, it was very important that we had someone coaching and assisting us through something this significant.
I cannot emphasize enough just how amazing it was to have Nina at the birth of our daughter. I can't believe I even debated whether I wanted a doula! Having Nina there for constant support before, during and after the birth was amazing. She is so passionate, committed and dedicated throughout the whole process. I even surprised her by going into labor a month early! She helped us have the natural birth we always wanted and we will be forever thankful! She's the best! My advice is to hire her now before she gets booked up!
After having a great experience with a doula when our first child was born, there was no doubt in my mind that we wanted a doula with our second child. From the moment we met Nina, I felt very confident in our decision to work with her. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable and compassionate, but she was also very responsive throughout my entire pregnancy. She was constantly checking in and made herself available for any questions.
But to us, the real value of Nina was in helping us to have the birth experience that we wanted. From the start of my labor to the end, Nina was wonderful. She was strong, supportive and provided me with encouragement when I began to lose focus. She encouraged a variety of positions to help labor progress naturally and she was there for me in whatever way I needed her – from massage to just squeezing my hand. She also came with a “bag of tricks”. I won’t give away all her secrets but she literally seemed to have something in her bag to help with every stage of labor.
My husband always jokes that a doula is just as much for the Dad as it is for the Mom – and I couldn’t agree more! Our doctor didn’t arrive until 5 minutes before I needed to start pushing and our nurse was in and out of the room, so Nina was that constant support that we needed. A doula really takes pressure off of the Dad to be and do all things.
If you’re considering getting a doula to be a part of your labor support team, don’t hesitate! I would highly recommend Nina.
Nina was a wonderful addition to our birthing experience, both before and after. As first time parents we had lots of questions and feelings of uncertainty with various aspects of our pending birth. Nina went over the top to answer all our questions and put our minds at ease. She taught us many useful techniques (breathing, massage, etc), things that you can really only learn properly with the help of someone. During the birth, Nina was a big help in relaxing my wife and getting her focused to deliver. We also had postpartum visits that were very helpful as well (changing, bathing, swaddling) all things again that really help when you have someone there who knows what they are doing. She also took care of things around the house and the baby so my wife had a chance to relax. It was a pleasure to work with Nina and quite honestly can't imagine being able to get through it without somebody like her. If we decide to have another child, she will be the first person we call!!
Nina was beyond wonderful. Her expertise and ability to work with and get my husband involved was just awesome (if you knew my husband, you would think her just shy of a miracle worker!). The difference in pain perception prior to her working counter pressure and following were night and day. I honestly would not have been able to accomplish a non-medicated birth without Nina. Even for those women planning to use medication for the pain of labor, please understand it will still be painful and the hardest thing you have ever done. To have someone with the skills to help you cope with not only the pain but the mental, emotional, and physical demands of laboring, is worth every penny in the bank! I am so thankful we found Nina and am so happy we have another person to share in the delight of my son's birth.
Nina also took detailed notes of our labor journey and took pictures (which is totally optional) so that my husband and I wouldn't lose out on our memories.
In addition to all she did during labor, Nina was there for us prior to our baby's birth, in the moments following and then again in the weeks following birth. I know that if I have a question or concern, I can reach out and she will answer.
Our family loves Nina and will be using her with all of our other births and hope to see her at birhtday parties!
Nina is Amazing!!! As my husband and I first started online Birth Bootcamp classes, I felt confident that we were going to be ready as a two person birth team. We progressed into our 2nd trimester and we watched several natural birth videos. I loved watching the Mom, Dad and Doula work together to help mom achieve a natural delivery. I learned that a doula isn't a stranger that will step on others' toes or get in the way. On the contrary, I needed an expert's presence there. I researched doulas in my area and talked to several to get a feel of what each doula offered. I couldn't have picked a better professional for the job.
Nina always reassured us and made sure she answered all of our questions and concerns. She is very knowledgeable and provides all of the options available to her clients. Nina makes sure she understands what each partner needs/wants for a personalized delivery and even though labor and delivery might not go exactly as planned; Nina makes sure you are comfortable and satisfied with your choices. She makes sure you understand what is going on and looks out for Mom, Dad, and Baby's best interests. As a registered nurse that works in a hospital, I knew what I was up against having a hospital birth. I wanted the least amount of interventions and a natural delivery. If my husband and I had stayed a two person team this would NOT have been possible. Nina knew what I needed to keep me comfortable without even having to tell her. Hiring Nina as our doula was the best decision we made for our labor and delivery in a hospital setting.
I hope every woman regardless of where she chooses to deliver a baby has the opportunity to have a doula and enjoy the birthing experience with the help a professional like Nina! When the time comes for our next baby, we will be calling Nina again. For the meantime, we will be enjoying the activities/events provided by Bassett Baby Planning for Mom, Dad, and baby to learn from!
Nina was fantastic from start to finish - and beyond! From the first planning get-together to the post-partum checkup, Nina was clearly professional, knowledgeable, confident, and skilled. She absolutely transformed our birth experience from an anxious ordeal into one that was smooth and informed.
Not only did Nina provide absolutely essential real-time instructions for positioning, breathing, and mental toughness, she offered encouragement, positivity, and lots of pain-relieving massages for my wife! Nina definitely knows what she is doing, but at the same time made sure we knew that we were in charge - she completely respected our birth plan. Amazingly, she got on extremely well with the nurses, and they helped each other rather than got in each other's way (as we've heard about other doulas).
My wife had to be induced on pitocin, and she did the delivery without an epidural - about the most painful combination possible. All credit to my wife's toughness first - but it's no hyperbole to say that Nina made the difference in making our dream birth a reality. We would definitely work with Nina again if we get pregnant in the future, and will be referring her to all our friends!
Let me start off by saying that Nina is GREAT!!! My husband and I were skeptical to hire a Doula because of the idea of having a stranger help me through labor. While taking the Bradley Method class we realized we wanted a doula to increase my chances of a natural birth in the hospital, BEST decision we made. Nina was with us the whole time (~16 hours), she has magic hands and massaged me through labor which helped me cope with pain as I went for an epidural-free labor. I swear she massaged me until she got cramps on her hands. She was great reassurance and kept us calmed and focused throughout the entire process. Having Nina there helped my husband and I to completely focus on each other, in labor, and in our soon to be born baby boy. My husband was almost stress-free and he dedicated her complete attention on me ?. Another great thing for us was that she understood the “language” of the hospital/nurses (bunch of medical terms), so even if you don’t understand what they are talking about she will explain it to you. She provided excellent remedies for nauseas, hydration, pain, etc. I had the natural birth I always wanted and Nina was a big part on achieving that. She took the most beautiful pictures of the entire process and of the baby right when he was born. My husband thinks that having a Doula is like having your own special nurse that only cares about the woman. He also told me to advice any husbands out there, to not think about it twice and hire a Doula. You will be much happier, especially if you have a really long labor like we did. Our experience was amazing. We will be forever thankful of Nina. With Love, Melissa, Juan, and baby Diego
I can't recommend Nina enough! We hired Nina as a postpartum doula after the birth of our first child and she worked with our family twice a week over a three-month period. My husband and I initially hired her as a bit of an "insurance policy" - this was our first child, and we knew we didn't have a clue what we were getting ourselves into. We also didn't know what kind of help we needed, but we knew at minimum we would need general relief (for naps, showers, etc) for me after my husband went back to work full time. Nina exceeded our expectations in that she didn't just care for our son, but she literally had advice, suggestions, and ideas for EVERY question we could think of that is backed up by her years of professional experience. Among the many things Nina helped us with were helping me figure out how to put together and sterilize bottles, breastfeeding advice, cloth diapering advice, organizing our baby's clothes, and sleep training. What makes Nina so special is the fact that she has an incredible depth of experience in combination with a genuine passion for caring for women and their families and endless energy.
Nina worked with my family as a post partum doula after the birth of my second child. It’s cliché, but raising children really does take a village. Since “my village” all have full time jobs, my sister hired Nina as a present to me. Nina was amazing from start to finish. In our first meeting, I asked what role a post partum doula takes. Two (of the many) things she said really stood out to me. First, “It’s mom’s job to take care of everyone else. I take care of mom.” She also said she’d do anything I needed, but that she was truly a success once I felt I didn’t need her anymore.
I loved knowing we would see her once a week (it helped me get through the rough parts). She did everything from helping me breastfeed, then figure out pumping, to washing bottles and pump parts. She gave me a break to shower, would make breakfast so I could actually eat, and entertain my two year old so I could snuggle and feed baby. Ultimately, she helped me figure out how to transition to two kids. She’s full of tips, tricks, knowledge and experience.
If angels walk the earth, Nina is definitely one! She’s the perfect balance of an expert professional and a loving sister. I recommend her to every family to make the post partum experience easier and more enjoyable!
Hiring Nina was the best decision we made during my pregnancy! She helped make the natural birth that we wanted a reality. Prior to my labor, she helped us develop a birth plan and the tools to allow my labor to progress without intervention. During the labor, she kept me calm, massaging my back for 10 hours straight! My husband was certainly grateful for that! Nina's presence made my husband and myself more relaxed than either of us could have ever expected to be. We would definitely hire Nina again!
We could not recommend Nina & Bassett Baby Planning enough!!! She is amazing and we were truly lucky to have her with us when our daughter decided to enter the world.
We hired Nina very early in our pregnancy and along with being our birth doula she also conducted our childbirth and newborn care classes. For all the appointments we had, Nina was great about working around our work schedules and finding locations to accommodate where we lived since we do not live in Houston proper. The information she provided in these classes was informative and invaluable! We have shared that info with others and referenced back to it ourselves a few times since.
In addition, if you have an opportunity to arrange for a prenatal and post natal massage by Nina, I highly recommend it!! She did a fabulous job.
As our due date approach Nina stayed in regular contact and as we entered my 39 week, she checked in frequently. She was great at providing us with an accurate picture of what we could expect when we went into labor and when we did, she was accessible and reassuring. Due to our situation , we delivered at a hospital and Nina met us shortly after our arrival there.
During my labor, Nina did an great job working with us and not only did she provide amazing support for myself but she provided invaluable support for husband and family. Nina seem to have a trick or tip for every situation that came up. She has an endless bag of tricks!!
As a first time mom, i had an extraordinary spouse and supportive family and our goal was to have an experience to share not just survive. Unfortunately, our birth plan took a major detour but after all of the many needed interventions, we still had a great birth experience along with a beautiful and healthy baby. We are so incredibly grateful and feel that Nina was the main reason that we were so successful in having a satisfying birth experience. We would not have another baby with Nina's help!
I hired Nina as a post-partum Doula. With our previous son we had trouble with breastfeeding and I didn’t want to go through the same challenges with our new baby boy. Not only did Nina help me be successful with the breastfeeding, she also became my organizer, helped me with ideas on transitioning from one to two children, creative tricks to managing it all, and at times my counselor. Having Nina’s help during a huge transition in our family was a blessing. Although my husband was skeptical about hiring a Doula at first, he realized quickly how much stress was taken off us, so we could enjoy our new family of four. I didn’t experience the baby blues, like I had when my first baby was born, my husband definitely appreciated that. Just having someone to bounce ideas off of and laugh off delirious mistakes helped me more than I ever thought possible. Nina is truly gifted at what she does and I would recommend her to anyone having their first child or even their fourth child.
When my husband and I first discovered I was pregnant we were overwhelmed with joy. We were elated that we would now be a family and looked forward with excitement to the arrival of our first child. As my baby girl's due date approached it dawned on me that despite our happy anticipation I was anxious about how the first few weeks adjusting to life as a family would be.
While I run my own successful business and am used to having a smooth routine and controlling a schedule, suddenly our lives were about to be turned upside down! I was used to knowing how to do things - and suddenly my husband and I were undertaking something we knew nothing about.
I am so thrilled that I discovered Bassett Baby Planning. Nina is exactly the type of person we needed to help ease us into parenthood. She commands a vast knowledge about every aspect of baby-dom, and as a post-partum Doula she instructed us on everything from how to bathe our newborn, swaddle her, which types of bottles to use, using my breast pump, useful phone aps. to keep track of feeding times - really pretty much everything that we needed to know (but didn't know we needed to know before our little girl was born!). She also helped me organize the nursery so that everything was where we could find it easily.
Despite her expertise Nina is never condescending; my husband and I felt that she had joined our "team" and not as if she were a there to coach us.
Since my labor didn't go as I had planned (I needed to have a C section) it made the transition even harder. Admittedly the first few weeks were rough and Nina was there as a great support and friend. Now I feel like my family is off to a great start!
I couldn't be more enthusiastic about Basset baby planning or Nina and the services she offers. Any family would be extremely lucky to have Basset Baby Planning on their team.
Nina and I met three years ago as coworkers, and I've always admired her hard work, professionalism and real dedication to showing up to each experience and always giving her best. When I found out I was pregnant, I knew Nina would be able to give a lot of advice, but I wasn't quite sure if I NEEDED a doula for a hospital birth. I can't say enough how grateful I am that she gave me the information to make the choice to use her -- I know for sure that I wouldn't have had the birth I wanted without her.
She was always available throughout my pregnancy and after the birth to answer any questions and she asked me a lot of important questions I hadn't thought of to figure out exactly what I wanted for my birth. Given her training with Hypnobabies, I followed her advice to take the course since I wanted some alternative pain management. Although I wouldn't describe my birth as "relaxed and happy," the discomfort was manageable and I had my natural birth without tearing.
The best gift that she gave us was her calm confidence in the delivery room and her guidance to my birth partner and my mother on how to best support me. Without her certainty and assurance that everything was going well, I know I would've wanted pain medication and nobody else would've questioned me. But because she made me feel I was doing a good job and that the end was near, and supported me pushing in a way that was right for me, I had the beautiful birth I dreamed of.
Nina was always prompt for our appointments and she showed up to the birth with arms full of all the things I needed (many I didn't even know how much I would appreciate) -- the birth ball, aromatherapy, music, hold/cold therapy, and of course her healing hands for massage.
She also worked very well with the team at the hospital. I'm so grateful that the world has people who devote themselves to supporting women in this phenomenally transformative time. Nina, you're a blessing.
Hiring Nina Bassett was one of the best decisions my wife and I have made. As first time parents we definitely needed some professional assstance on knowing what to expect through the pregnancy, delivery and post partem. She was very professional and knowlegeable while making us feel at ease and totally comfortable. She simply made this process so much easier for both of us. She deserves an A+ rating - simply the best. To all future moms and dads out there: I highly recommend Nina Bassett to you without hesitation or reservation. You will be very well served by hiring her.
One of the best decisions my husband and I made (besides having babies in the first place) was hiring Nina Bassett as a doula. When I found out I was pregnant with twins, I didn't realize that I really needed to prepare for the unexpected. I thought I had plenty of time to take classes, organize the nursery, etc. However, I was put on bedrest for 5 weeks, and then when my babies arrived they were 5 weeks early. Since I had a c-section, I knew I needed help. I was scrambling to find someone and came across Nina's information. I knew I was going to hire her when I spoke to her on the phone. She did such a great job of putting me at ease. We met with her while I was still in the hospital and the babies were in the NICU. Once the babies came home, Nina was with us for a whole week as a post-partum doula. Sure, we took a class, but all the stuff you learned goes out the window when you have a crying baby (and in our case babies) you need to swaddle, bathe and feed. She taught us so many tricks and made dealing with our twins so easy. She went above and beyond the call of duty. She helped decorate and organize our nursery since I didn't get a chance to do it. She came with us to our newborn photo session, and she gave me enough time to heal and recover from my surgery. She took care of everything for the babies: laundry, bottles, and even did things I was too scared to do like clip their tiny fingernails. I don't know what I would have done without her. She even came back once the babies were a little older to help us out for 2 weeks. I can't say enough nice things about her. She is great! She is fun, professional and totally loves us and the babies. And we feel the same way about her.
Nina was the best part of our birth experience. She made the anxious months preceding the birth easier, and she was absolutely the best help to us (first time parents!) during labor and delivery. She even helped me just after the birth get our son latched on to start breastfeeding since the hospital nurses couldn't be bothered, even after a long night and little sleep!
She was professional, with a nurturing/caring personal touch. She is extremely accessible and helpful, and I felt absolutely comfortable with her from the start. I worried that my plan to have a medicated hospital birth would preclude me from finding a supportive doula, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Nina was 100% supportive and helped us craft a birth plan by explaining our options, which helped us better understand how to make and stand up for our decisions in the hospital. My goal was to have a vaginal birth, delaying the use of the epidural until I was in active labor so as to avoid invasive interventions/augmentations that might lead to a C-section. Nina helped me labor through painful back labor for 6 hours with amazing comfort measures until I was in active labor, when I was able to get the epidural. After getting some rest, and with my husband and Nina coaching me during the pushing phase, I had the birth I wanted - with the exception of needing Pitocin to start my contractions, which made the time before the epidural difficult. Thankfully, I had Nina's excellent help to get me through even those painful Pitocin-induced contractions! She was phenomenal, and I highly recommend her services (especially her massages - best massages I've ever had!).
If Elle Woods from Legally Blonde had decided to become a doula, she would be Nina. Nina is fun, high energy, personable, and incredibly knowledgable about pregnancy and birth. She was available for questions all throughout my pregnancy and offered a sympathetic ear when I needed to complain about aches or nausea or my in-laws. When the time came for her to shine and I was in actual labor, she met us at the hospital twice in one day (I was sent home the first time) and was immediately "on". She kept us all excited but calm throughout the whole process. It was invaluable to have someone by my side who I could look to for reassurance and guidance (like when the doctor said "Don't push yet" while I was at 10 centimeters!). We had only met a few times before my delivery but we connected and I had the secure feeling of a friend guiding me towards the birth I envisioned. I'm certain that it was with Nina's help that I was able to have the drug-free, natural birth that was so important to me.
Nina has been an amazing asset to our birth teams for both of our children. This birth was truly special in that our team worked together seemlessly. Nina was able to make me as comfortable as possible, using massage and counterpressure techniques during our natural, home, water, hypno-birth.
Being a doula is, not only her full time job, but her life's passion. You will not find better!
My husband and I are so glad that we chose Nina Bassett as our doula! She was always there to answer any questions we had regarding the birthing process and made us feel very prepared during the labor process. I found her techniques to ease my labor pain very effective and we both liked how she showed my husband how to utilize counterpressure and other techniques as well. I had both a prenatal and labor induction massage with Nina and I found both to be very relaxing. I was stressed out about being overdue and I went into labor the same day she gave me the labor induction massage! After my baby was born she also taught us how to give him infant massage and explained all the benefits. Overall our entire experience with Nina was extremely positive and we would be happy to recommend her to anyone looking for a doula!
With Nina’s support, I was able to have the labor experience that I wanted.
Although I was past my due date, I wanted to go into labor naturally. Nina gave me encouragement and suggested measures I could take, such as a labor-inducing massage, in order to avoid being induced. I did it all—and it worked!
I didn’t go to the hospital set on having a natural delivery, but with Nina’s support, I was able to do something I didn’t think I could! In the delivery room, Nina worked non-stop to make sure that I was comfortable and at ease. (She came prepared with everything from an exercise ball to a fan.) She provided counter pressure with her amazingly strong hands and coached me through every contraction. She demonstrated her knowledge through the different labor positions she suggested, and she always explained to my husband and me why she recommended each position. I attribute the successful natural delivery of my baby to her knowhow, guidance, and encouragement.
After our baby was born, the nurses told me how impressed they were with Nina. My husband and I were impressed, too.
Although we thought that having a doula was something we’d do for the delivery of our first baby to calm our anxieties, we both agree that we’d hire Nina in a heartbeat the next time we have a baby. Having Nina in the delivery room was very reassuring, and I wish that everyone I know could have such a positive labor experience.
Where do I begin in my great experiance with such an amazing doula like Nina. Words truly cannot and will not express the amount of gratitude that I have with the amazing birth I had due to the fact that I had Nina by my side. Even though natural child birth is truly a crazy experiance knowing that I was able to give my baby the best with less invasive medicine makes me a proud mom. The talent that Nina convays and what she knew to do at every contraction I give her thumbs up becuase she knew what to do once I felt like I wanted a train to hit me she came in and did an amazing job and making me either think of something else or by putting my body more at ease. I was not sure in the beginning of my pregnancy if I would go with a doula or even at that what a doula was but I'm so happy my aunt suggested to me that, that would be the best route if I wanted to go all nautral and let's face it my amazing boyfirend would of freaked out at not knowing what to do. As a matter of fact after everything and the birth of our little girl he was super pleased that we hired a doula cause he said that he wouldn't of been able to do it without Nina.So for anyone looking into a doula Nina is a great choice compassoniate and thier through every step what more could you ask for so Nina thank you thank you I truly appreciate your awesome work and hope to see you soon again one day.
OK, Daddy's perspective here. Given our situation I don't know how we could have made it without NIna. My wife was living in Houston and I had moved to LA for work. I was only able to return every couple of weeks during the pregnancy. Nina was able to fill in the gaps where I could not be present. By the time I was able to take work leave to be there prior to the delivery, my wife and Nina had everything under control.
When it came time to deliver, Nina as much to inform me what was going on (and why) as anything else. When the delivery was tense and we had to change our birth plan, Nina stepped up and stepped in to make sure my mother in law and I were informed in making the right decisions for us. When it was time to stick by the birth plan, Nina was our advocate in adding her voice to ours and making sure we made an informed decision in deciding whether to stick to our guns. When the delivery took longer than we thought, Nina was there to massage my wife's aches wherever they occurred.
I really can't say enough wonderful things about Nina. I would employe Nina all over again in a second.
We LOVE Nina. There is no other way to say it. We hired Nina as our post-partum doula after learning about her through the doula grapevine. Nina is extremely professional and efficient, but also trustworthy and so loving. She is one of the very few people I trust with my daughter. Nina is also very adaptable. When she realized that my husband and I did not need as much help with learning basic newborn care as some of her other clients may need, she focused more on giving us a break and helping us make our house as baby-friendly as possible. In our two-story house, the downstairs’ diaper changing station she suggested and helped set up has been one of the best things ever! She taught us baby massage and was a sounding board any time we had a concern with our baby’s development. She helped us out long past the time we originally scheduled her for and honestly, we don’t ever want to let her go! We almost can’t wait to have our next baby, just so we can have Nina as our birth doula this time.
Hiring Nina as for baby planning and as our labor doula was honestly one of the best decisions we've ever made. I can honestly say that my labor and birth were a beautiful and challenging journey that I am very proud of...and it would not have been that without her. Nina is without question the most nurturing person I've ever met. The whole nursing staff fell IN LOVE with her and two nurses got her information to hire her later. She was coming into a lot of negative opinions about doulas and when she left she had won every single nurse and Dr.'s deep respect. Nina was wonderful in the months leading up to the labor with support and education. She won me over again and again every time I met with her. As you can see we are 100% satisfied with her as our doula and fully intend to hire her for all of our future pregnancies. I can't imagine that anyone else would do a better job or be any more committed to my health and happiness than she was. She is the perfect example of what a doula should be and anyone in the world would have a better, happier and more beautiful birth with her by their side.
My husband and I hired Nina as our doula for the birth of our first son. I talked to a few Doulas in Houston, but I had decided to use Nina for the moment I met her. She is so professional, caring and supportive, which is what you need in such an emotional situation. After the Birth of our son, my husband could not stop singing Nina’s praises. With Nina's help my Husband and I received the birth experience we wanted, which was to give birth naturally.
I used her Doula services along with prenatal, pre-labor and postpartum massages. I did not get to experience the pre-labor massage, but Nina did give me 2 postnatal massages to make up for the pre-labor massage. I highly recommend using the Doula services along with the massage services while you are pregnant. I believe prenatal massages are a must for pregnant women; your body is going through so many changes and the massaging help easy some of the discomfort.
I will recommend Nina to my girlfriends. I am also planning on using Nina with any future pregnancies. She made my husband a believer and he now also recommends her to his friends. Nina is just the sweetest person, I am so glad I found her.
When I interviewed Nina I wanted to hire her because of her experience, her enthusiasm and passion for her work, and her Hypnobabies specialty. Little did I know her empathy and compassion would be what we would need the most.We were committed to using Hypnobabies during our birthing time. Our plans had to be changed at 37 weeks because of a breech twin and Nina offered us emotional support I never expected to need. Despite our best efforts (acupuncture, chiropractic, flipping exercises), the baby at the bottom would not budge. Nina provided my husband and I with supportive and optimistic words when we needed them the most. We were disappointed and a little frustrated. Our plans and expectations for our birthing time had to be completely reassessed. But, with the support of Nina, our birth ended up being beautifully ours!
I truly believe Nina offers a complete package as a doula. She is qualified because of her technical skills and experience but it is her empathy and optimism that will make you feel emotionally supported in any situation.
We hired Nina as both a birth and postpartum doula, and I could not be more enthusiastic to recommend her to other families.
My first delivery was a c-section, and so in many ways I felt like a first time Mom. It was a really difficult delivery (my first c-section) and doing it all again was very emotional for both me and my husband. We decided to do a VBAC instead of a repeat c-section, and we wanted as much support as possible and hired Nina as a doula. I can't stress how wonderful it was to have her in the weeks leading up to my due date - she was a huge source of support, and my doctor's office LOVED that she came to my appointment with me. It made my whole "team" on the same page.
During my (unmedicated!) labor Nina was super adaptable and if she saw something wasn't giving me relief she was quick to switch it up. What really worked for me was her experience with massage and counter pressure. Nurses literally came into the room to watch her, she was amazing. She was great about including my husband - she has a gift for respecting the doctor and husband's space and acting as a support person rather than taking over. My husband actually said to Nina after the birth "We couldn't have done this without you" and in my hormonal, postpartum state I yelled "But I did all the work!" It's just a testament to how much we value Nina, my husband included.
Something really special is that Nina somehow manages not only to be right there with you, but also take pictures and records times and important moments. We have pictures of my husband and I during the labor that are really special that shows how involved he was, pictures from literally the moment my daughter came into the world, pictures of the 3 of us, etc.
I would (and will) recommend Nina to my closest girlfriends and she will be one of the first phone calls I make with any subsequent pregnancies.
Having Nina with us through the labor and delivery experience was absolutely invaluable. Her expert knowledge, guidance, and coaching were critical factors in achieving our goal of a natural birth. I know we would have felt lost without her. It was clear how comfortable she was operating in the hospital environment. She anticipated our needs and met them without delay. Even our nurse commented on how great she was to work with. We recommend Nina’s services without reservation. She’s truly wonderful.
Nina helped me out as a postpartum doula. She is so professional, but still makes you feel comfortable. It is obvious that she has a passion for caring for new mommas and helping us care for our babies. I would recommend Nina without hesitation, and I'm sure I'll probably be calling her again myself!
