Kathleen was a huge support to me and my partner during our births. She supported us during a painful late pregnancy loss in the hospital, and then went on to be our doula for the joyful hospital birth of our daughter, and then again at the homebirth of our last baby. Her compassion and calm are matched by her skills at massage, bodywork and positioning. She knows how to help manage pain effectively, and how to help navigate the medical system with practicality, humor, and kindness. We found that having such a skilled and experenced doula by our side during the birth experience alleviated a lot of the anxiety around the unknown of labor. Rather than focusing in on the small details, we were able to be present in the moment for the births of our children, no matter the circumstances. I highly recommend Kathleen's services.

We knew from the beginning that our birth might be complicated. It was our second pregnancy and the first ended in a cesarean. We were hoping for a VBAC this time around, but we were aware that it might not work out that way.

Kathleen was absolutely fabulous. She assisted through a 'false labor' at our home, which died down after a few hours. And then, weeks later, accompanied us at our induction at the hospital. Her experience was evident in the varying techniques that she used to bring on contractions and jump start labor. She was patient, calm, knowledgeable, and professional with the hospital staff. (And her calf and foot massages are incredible.)

Unfortunately, after all of Kathleen's hard work to bring on labor (for many, many hours), our daughter decided to bring her cord up over her head (cord prolapse) that resulted in another cesarean.

Even though our daughter foiled our VBAC attempt, I am very happy that we choose Kathleen to accompany us with our second birth.

Choosing a doula for my birth journey was one of the best choices I made during pregnancy, but also one of the hardest.  How do you pick someone to be with you at one of your most vulnerable moments?  What questions can you possibly ask to find the right match?  Once I knew I wanted a doula, the process of finding the right one was overwhelming.  Kathleen and her partner Britt from Hummingbird Doulas made that process easy.  They came right to my house and answered all of my questions.  The helped me figure out a plan of what was going to meet my needs and I knew from then that working with Kathleen was the best choice for me.  I truly believe that Kathleen's clear guidance on how to handle the days up to labor and early labor helped me relax and to ultimately have a very quick labor and birth.  Kathleen also was there afterwards to support me and my husband and to reassure us. She even took some pictures after delivery and brought me soup when I caught a cold. I am so grateful for her expertise and support during that time.  And I am thankful that we chose Kathleen to be part of one of the most important days of our life.  I wholeheartedly recommend Kathleen and Hummingbird Doulas for their wisdom, experience, professionalism and passion.
