Mamatoto Village, particularly Vanessa Vinton, worked with my family as a sibling doula for the planned home birth of our fourth child. Vanessa was wonderful with my daughters, ages 9, 7, and 2 years old. She came to our house twice during the month prior to the birth, getting to know them, how we do things (like meals, snacks, nap/bedtime/wake up routines, TV rules, etc), and what we were hoping for as far as interaction with mom&dad during labor and birth. The older two had been in the house when the third child was born at home, and they wanted to be more involved for baby number four. As Vanessa was familiar and comfortable with home birth, and its many possible variables, she seemed a good choice for supporting my children through the time of labor and birth. When the time finally came, she arrived at 2 a.m. and took care of their day (the kids did not get up then, but I called her just in case they did and my husband and I could not deal with putting them back to bed). She let them check on me throughout labor, but also kept them busy and happy in other parts of the house. When the birth took a turn needing hospital transfer, she kept them from worrying until another friend was able to come take care of them. She even helped them bake a Happy Birthday Baby cake and tidied up before she left. Vanessa was a tremendous help during the lengthy, sometimes worrisome, and eventually safe and happy arrival of our fourth child.

I wholeheartedly recommend Cassie to anyone looking for a doula to support them before, during and after the delivery. I don't know how me or my husband would have made it through the delivery without her support! Whether it was creative positions, massaging, or words of encouragement - I never would have been able to endure the pain for as long as I did on my own. At the hospital, she also served as a strong advocate to make sure I was clear on all options and then felt empowered to make the final decision myself. I really appreciated that because in the frenzy of labor I wouldn't have had the wherewithall to ask the necessary questions and think through decisions.

More broadly, Cassie was such a positive force and always made me feel comfortable to go to her at anytime with any question. She was such a help in the postpartum phase when I was struggling with breastfeeding - she is still a help one month later!

Lastly, I found a very important quality of Cassie's was her openness and that she isn't judgemental. It really is all about you when you work with Cassie.

Last last thing, Cassie was recommended to me by a friend and I recommended her to another friend. Both had phenomonal experiences with her.

We could not have been happier in our experience with the Village Birth doulas. Both Cassie and Vanessa assisted us with our pregnancy and the birth of our son. They gave us the support and guidance we needed to get through a somewhat difficult birth and recovery process. While we were happy with our midwifery practice, having additional doula support was so important to us. Cassie and Vanessa were extremely knowledgeable, comforting, and motivating--they gave us the kind of care we wouldn't have received without their help. We would highly recommend their services to anyone in need of birth education and support.

I highly recommend the Village Birth doulas, Aza and Cassie.  I had a difficult pregnancy and they were kind, helpful, and reassuring.  Cassie was present during my labor and delivery.  Her guidance and support definitely made a difference!  She served as an advocate for me and offered  suggestions and alternatives along the way.

If I have another child, I would reach out to Village Birth again.

My experience with Aza as my doula was notthing shor of exceptional. First, one of the reasons we chose her was because she seemed to care about getting to know us as individuals and as a couple and really working through any challenges/fears that we had in anticipation of the baby. I was chosing to have a "natural" birth and the skepticism of my family and friends was difficult, so I knew I would need someone that not only supported the natural birth process, but who would also support me given this stressful time. So from the first meeting Aza really made me feel that I was talking to and working with an old friend. She really put my mind at ease and we created even created vision boards (what we had hoped for--for the pregnancy). I am not sure how many other doulas would take the time with a couple like she did. Then from the day I went into later to 36hrs later, when I actually had my son, Aza (who was pregnant at the time) was there supporting me, standing up for me, questioning all of the medical interventions that were suggested. Ultimately, due to exhaustion I ended up getting an epidural and I felt no judgement or disappointment from Aza. She continued to support me. After we had been home for a few weeks, Aza came and visited to make sure we were doing well. She was present during one of the most important times of our lives and will always be a friend. Anyone who is looking for a wholistic experience, where your doula cares about you and your family in their entirety , I highly suggest Aza at village birth, she will really make your experience with a doula an amazing one!

I cannot recommend Village Birth Coop highly enough, nor can I imagine having gone through my labor without the support of Cassie and Aza! From our earliest conversations I found VBC to be a fount of birth-related wisdom combined with warm, confident and supportive energy. Our prenatal sessions were incredibly personalized and thorough, making me feel confident and prepared for a natural labor, but with a realistic and flexible approach and attitude. In all honesty, I think my partner and I got more out of these sessions than we did out of our childbirth class (not only about labor, but also about the infant care skills we would need on the other side!).

However - helpful as these prenatal visits were, it is DURING childbirth that Aza and Cassie most brightly shine. I had an unexpectedly rapid labor, and from the first phone call I made they were 100% there to listen, support and guide me. As soon as Cassie realized how quickly my labor was progressing she was on her way to us, guiding not only me but my partner and mother who had been supporting me until she arrived. We had planned to deliver at a nearby birth center, but as we prepared to depart my labor intensified and it became clear that moving was not viable as the baby was about to come. We called the EMT, who quickly arrived and made the call to stay put as labor was eminent. Despite the unexpected turn of events, Cassie and Aza’s calm and competence enabled ME to remain calm and focused (and my partner and mom not to panic), and I soon after delivered a healthy baby girl!

I simply cannot imagine having gone through labor without the support of Cassie and Aza. My rapid-fire delivery could easily have become cause for alarm, but Cassie and Aza's wisdom and experience paved the way for what turned out to be a beautiful, healthy and unforgettable labor. I cannot recommend them highly enough, or imagine a better set of hands to be in leading up to, during and after childbirth!

Couldn't have a better doula!  Cassie was amazing.  In fact, I believe I would not have been able to have my successful vbac without medication without her.  My labor was quick and painful, came to the hospital 100% efface and dilated.  Cassie was wonderful, very calm and knowledgeable.  She helped me breathe, deal with the pain, and varies positions to be the baby out.  Her support was amazing for both me and my husband.  I gave birth to 8lbs 2 oz baby!  I can't express how wonderful this group is.

Cassie was our doula for our birth in March of 2013.  Looking back on the experience, I remember her presence bringing so much tranquility and love to the room.  She was with me from the moment I arrived at the hospital until after my baby girl had successfully nursed, which was approximately 18 hours.  She was an overwhelmingly positive energy every step of the way.  She was like my best friend.  She advocated for me, supported me, helped me, reminded me patiently when the discomfort took me away from my efforts, and visited me at home to do my placenta encapsulation, where she spent lots of time visiting with me and continuing to give me lots of positive support and make sure things were going well at home.  I simply couldn't have been more pleased with my experience with her.  I'm so fortunate to have found her.  I would recommend her to anyone!!

Aza was a great support before, during and after my birth. Aza joined me in the hospital when I called her. She used techniques to help with pain management that my husband, mother and I never would have known. She was a reassuring and calming presence. She also helped advise me when I had questions about my induction. I appreciated having her wealth of experience behind me during my birth.

I absolutely LOVED my experience with Aza!  Our appointments were always something to look forward to, and the converstations were great!  If it wasn't for her, I am not sure I would have been able to get the birth experince that I wanted.  It was wonderful and I highly recommend her!

I used Aza Nedhari from Village Birth and she is AMAZING and very skilled. My fiance Matthew and I wanted an unmedicated natural birth and to avoid inducement and a c-section. Aza met with us months before delivery and went over our birth plan. I had a long 22 hour labor. I was in contact with Aza once my first contraction hit. She kept in touch via email, text and phone during early labor when I had the energy to walk around and the pain was still manageable. Once contractions became stronger and scarier she came to our home and that's when she worked her magic. I kept fighting/clenching against the pain but Aza coached me through each contraction, using various techniques to help me relax so baby could move down into position. I was panicking and wanted to go to the hospital right away, but she was strong in helping me achieve my original plan to labor at home as long as possible. The contractions sped up when my water broke and we headed for the hospital. Once we arrived I was 10cm and went straight to the delivery room. She was by my side throughout the pushing, keeping me hydrated, continuing to reassure me. I was impressed as she advocated on my behalf to inform the hospital of my birth plan regarding positions, episiotomy, vaccines. Ultimately I had to deliver in the lay down position which was fine and I allowed the doctor to perform the episiotomy, but I was so happy she was my voice. After baby arrived less than an hour later Aza immediately helped me breastfeed and provided natural herbs for recovery. I should note the doctor was extraordinary and wonderful in delivering a healthy baby boy. The doctor said I did a great job. That said, it was the most intense experience and I couldn't have made it through a natural birth without the doula's knowledge and coaching. I highly, highly recommend Aza Nedhari from Village Birth.

I could not have found a better doula than Aza Nedhari. I was committed to a natural, unmedicated birth from early in my pregnancy, but in the end, I know I could not have achieved that goal without Aza. She fit in the delivery room so easily with my husband and me, and it was a fabulous experience. Additionally, after I got home and had a breast feeding emergency, I called Aza and she rearranged her schedule in order to see me the next day. I am recommending Aza to any expectant family I know, and will myself use her again for any future pregnancies.
