Maria Apreza is an excellent doula. You will see that, connecting with people and helping them manage labor is a passion and not a task for her. Maria was present at my birth and as a first time mom, I felt that she was truly God-sent. She helped me cope with a very difficult labor that was very intense and I progressed the whole time that she was with me. She supported me with trying various positions, rebozo, TENS unit, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, back labor massage support, etc. She even remembered to give me some much needed lip balm and apple juice at the right times. While I look to her as a sister or a friend rather than a birth professional, she is very calm and composed as a professional should be. If it werent for her solid support, I doubt my birthing experiece would have been as good. In her care, I enjoyed a safe and natural, medication free birth.
Maria also helped my family stay calm and kept them abreast with everything they needed to know during the course of the labor. She also helped me deal with my initial hiccups managing a newborn. As a new mom, I was relieved to have trust-worthy Maria to go to, regarding my baby-related questions and worries.
I consider myself very lucky to have had her at my side at such a crucial time in my life. I'd readily recommend her to anybody who requires a doula for their birth or postpartum needs. I sincerely hope to have her at my subsequent labors when the time comes. Good luck, Maria.
I instantly felt a connection to Maria. I really liked that she had so much experience as a doula, and herself had 4 children, so she knew what birth was like! Maria visited us twice before my due date to discuss our wishes, show us techniques to use during labor, and answer any more questions. I felt confident going into my labor.
My labor started on a Saturday morning. My husband and I worked as a team for as long as we could, and then when things got intense, we paged Maria to come to the house. As soon as Maria arrived around 3pm, both my husband and I breathed a sigh of relief. Just knowing that someone who knew what was supposed to be happening was in the house was a major weight off both of our shoulders. Maria put her TENS unit on my back, and that was a huge help. It took the place of my husband having to stop what he was doing to push on my back. He was now free to prepare for the trip to the birth center, and comfort me in other ways. Maria knew just when it was time to head to the birth center.
We got to the birth center at 6pm, and my son wasn't born until 7:25am the next morning. Maria was there with us all night, sitting by my side when I was in the tub. Holding my leg as I pushed on the bed. Sitting beside me when I was on the birth stool or laboring on the toilet. She reminded me how to breathe, and was silent when I needed to take some time to go inwards and labor in my head. With such a long labor, my husband was in and out of sleep, but Maria was there to help. After our 9lb, 9oz baby was born, she helped him latch onto the breast. It was an unforgettable experience, and Maria was an integral part. I chose to have my placenta encapsulated, and she took care of that as well. I couldn't be happier with our choice of doula, Maria, and our healthy baby boy!
My experience with Maria exceeded expectations. I am so grateful to have found her and I truly believe it was meant to be. My husban's first language is Spanish and mine is English. So finding a bilingual doula was really important to us. Maria helped keep my husband calm and informed during our planned home birth. She met with us many times before the birth and after. During these visits we discussed different types of natural pain coping techniques and she answered our many questions. She took priceless pictures and promptly encapsulated my placenta. My husband and I were both sad when our final meeting came and we could no longer look forward to seeing her as frequently. I am looking forward to using her for my next pregnancy. I will be calling her as early as possible to make sure she's available. Every women deserves a doula like Maria.
Maria was a wonderful doula! I couldn't have asked for a better birthing experience, and it was because of her. She was so helpful, kind, funny and down to earth. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED having Maria as my doula. She made me feel so comfortable whenever she was around, like we had been friends for a long time. She never made me feel like I had to do something if I didn't want to, but she offered me many tools to help cope with the pain of labor and move things along when my labor felt like it was going on forever. She helped create a peacful, caring and loving environment to help me have a successful VBAC. She always remained positive, even when I felt like things were going horribly and encouraged me to keep going. It was because of her encouragment and coaching for me and my husband that I was able to labor naturally the whole time. She helped me see I was capable of doing more than I thought I could in labor.
When I was looking for a doula I wanted to find someone who cared about people and was passionate about empowering and educating women to have the best birth possible. Maria is exactly that person. Her passion to educate her clients and women in general is evident just in casual conversation with her. I could tell from the start that being a doula wasn't just a job, but a product doing things she truly believes in. I am so thankful to have had Maria at my birth and involved in my family's life. She is an invaluable gift to anyone who hires her!
Maria was very helpful during the delivery of my son in March 2013. My husband and I hired her during the last half of my pregnancy to help prepare for the delivery. During her prenatal visits, she taught us massage and breathing techniques that helped ease my pain during contractions. I credit her and my nurse for working together to help me avoid an emergency C-section. My baby was “sunny-side up” and Maria was able to turn the baby into the correct position on delivery day. She prefers natural methods but was very supportive of my decisions to have an epidural and other interventions along the way. Immediately after delivery, she encouraged me to hold and bond with my baby for an entire hour, much longer than usual in hospitals. She gave me breastfeeding tips right after delivery and during postpartum visits. I recommend having Maria as a doula, as she contributed to my pleasant memories from my delivery experience.
Maria was a wonderful doula to us. She was ready to respond to any questions we had at any time of day or night; she came over on short notice to practice coping techniques with us when I was having some early contractions and helped our little sweetie on the way by suggesting some repositioning techniques that just worked rather promptly. I don’t know what gave her the patience to sit next to me directing me to breathe “in and out” while I was laboring in the tub all night, but I do know that there is absolutely no way that Todd and I could have done this without Maria’s help. She helped us make informed decisions when labor slowed down, and she kept calm and reassuring as nurses and midwife were busy and changed shifts. After the birth of our little Annika, Maria stayed in touch with us and helped us navigate some frustrations after pediatrician’s visits and breastfeeding challenges. Maria is incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and open-minded. She will support your childbirth choices and assist you in making the best decisions for your family. Should I ever be brave enough to go for seconds, Maria will absolutely be my doula of choice!
I am beyond grateful for the guidance and knowledge Maria Apreza shared with me during my pregnancy. Due to the broken immigration system of the United States my husband was unable to accompany me during my pregnancy. Having to endure such a journey by myself was definitely one of the hardest things I have ever done, but thankfully with people like Maria I was able to focus on the bigger picture and enjoyed it and felt prepared for the arrival of my little one. The support provided by Maria was endless. Maria began by educating me about what choices and options I would have during the delivery, she was always available to answer any doubts I had. During the actual labor, she helped me relax with her different techniques of relaxation; in particular aromatherapy was a life saver for me. Her commitment to the client’s wellbeing left me without words, her easy going personality gives you the assurance and comfort one needs during this very especial time. I am so thankful I had Maria by my side, she not only supported me during this time but she also made my journey and experience one to cherish because of the way she empowered me throughout. Gracias Maria!
Maria is an excellent doula, and my husband and I really enjoyed working with her around the birth of our second child. Because we’d been through labor before, we thought we wanted a doula who would just be around for the birth. But Maria gently insisted on meeting with us a couple of times before Baby came; and this ended up being really helpful! She impressed me right away. We had a home birth for our first child, and ran into some complications. I told Maria about them, and her first reaction was to indicate that she would be willing to stay with us longer than usual after the birth of our second child. We had the second child at home, too, and Maria did, in fact, stay longer to make sure we were well-supported even after the midwives left. Maria was also excellent with our oldest child. She provided lots of resources to help us educate him about childbirth, and she spent a good portion of her second prenatal visit talking to him and drawing pictures about the big changes that were coming, things like drawing how the family would look and what the weather might be like the day Baby would come. She tailored the activities to be very appropriate for our three year old, and she knew how to walk that fine balance between leading his attention toward the topic at hand and letting him wander in the direction that his mind took him. During that visit, Maria also taught my husband how to support me in labor through very gentle massage—massage that would help me but not exhaust him. He used this massage while I was in labor, and that helped me enormously. Maria also visited us after Baby arrived, teaching us about infant massage.
Our experience with Maria has been excellent. She is always reachable and provides a wealth of resources. Maria came highly recommended and she exceeded our expectations. We had initially hoped to have a natural birth, but we found out near the end of pregnancy that the baby was breech, which basically means c-section if the baby doesn't turn. Maria came over immediately and gave emotional support as well as help with trying to convince baby to turn. We ended up having a scheduled c-section and honestly weren't sure that we needed a doula in that situation. We decided to have Maria come to the hospital, and it was the best decision we made. After the birth, she came to our house and provided lactation support. All in all, hiring Maria was the best money we spent. She provided emotional support, extensive knowledge, and physical, hands-on help.
Our experience with Maria Apreza was absolutely life changing. From the moment she came into our home we sensed her professionalism, knowledge, and support, which never waivered in our journey together. Maria was our doula for the birth of our third child, and our first VBAC. The birth of our second child was an emergency cesarean section which left our family deeply traumatized and we sought a VBAC for our third as a method of healing and restoration. Maria's personal experience as a woman and mother as well as her strong education and hospital experience could not have been better suited to our needs. She was completely commited from our first meeting, through our nightly phone conversations and through our labor and the successful vaginal birth of our son. Her support was crucial to our journey as we navigated the interactions with the hospital staff, who were sometimes difficult with which to communicate. Maria handled those situations with complete ease and grace. She also provided constant labor support and gave suggestions and hands on comfort techniques when needed. Maria provided emotional support and clarification of our values, she respected our privacy yet was unrelentingly loyal.
My husband and I, our children and parents, and the doctor and nurses all admire Maria's gentle yet strong nature. We all respect her extensive knowledge, experience, and education. She clearly is adaptable to the needs of every birthing woman, regardless of preferences, choices, or values. She was available at every turn and our family grew to love her instantly. Our birth experience has renewed my confidence and identity as a woman, and I attribute a large portion of that to Maria Apreza.
If you are looking for a doula...look no further. Maria is as good as it's going to get! She was amazing. She was kind, informative, patient, supportive, and more. As soon as I called her, she showed up within 30 minutes--couldn't have asked for better service. During labor, she followed my lead. I opted for no epidural and she helped me get through with her support and caring nature. I 110% could not get thru 23 hours of labor without her. Thank you for being there for me, my husband, and our daughter!!!
Maria has been an angel during my labor. I cannot say enough good things about her as our Doula. She is very professional and warm hearted. Maria was constantly in touch with me on phone for last few days when my contractions began. She came to our home when we called her when my contractions got little tough. With every contraction she massaged my back because that was the only way I could go through it and it made me feel better. She also suggested me to take hot shower which I did and that helped me reduce the pain. After 3 hours, we were ready to go to the hospital. In the hospital, she would inform me and my husband of each and every step and massaged my back till I got epidural. She offered me water timely, adjusted mask and her constant attention was on me. I got little neck and shoulder pain lying and she again massaged it for a long time . I and my husband were amazed at her strength to go on for hours. Her calm voice and eyes constantly gave me support to go through labor. My husband is especially very thankful to her and tells me her support made a tremendous difference in his confidence and peace and that I was in good hands. She was there with us all the time, till the baby was born and till we were transferred to the post delivery room. We would definitely have her for our next baby. Thanks Maria.
I am so glad Maria was with me during the birth of my fourth child. I was in early labor for several hours, Maria came right away and helped me relax even though contractions were really spaced out. When we got to the hospital she gave me massage, dimmed the lights and turned on some relaxing music, she knew exactly what to do! After finding out my baby was asynclytic, and my doctor told me that it could take several hours to progress and maybe 3 hours to push, I was mortified. Maria helped keep me and my partner calm, and she recommended postions and used her rebozo to help baby get in position. 1 hour later baby was born! Maria helped me latch baby and stayed for several hours. I could not have done it without her.
I am so happy that Maria was at my baby's birth. Maria has such a calm demeanor that was very comforting to me. She was encouraging and helpful with her words. She helped relieve my pain by massaging me. My husband doesn’t speak much English so she was even able to translate for my hubby. If I could only choose one person from my daughter’s birth (other than my husband!) to be at any future births it would definitely be Maria!
