We started working with Becky when we lived in Minnesota before we even moved to North Carolina. She had so many great resources for us that helped to make the entire pregnancy a joyful experience for both of us. We loved the way she talked about the role of a doula. She said her job was to offer support in a way that helps to foster the relationship between the partners. Becky also had a great sense of when to step in with ideas and suggestions during the birth and when to give us space. We couldn't have asked for a better birthing experience and believe that is in part due to Becky and her support before, during and after the birth of our son.

What would we have done without Becky? She was our labor angel...

While preparing for labor/delivery we knew that we wanted a doula. As first time parents we needed a team member who had been through this before and who could answer our questions and provide support. When we met Becky, I knew immediately that she was the one for us. It felt like spending time with an old friend. In the meetings during the pregnancy, she answered all the questions I had from hormones messing with my emotions to helping me find a way to build my iron levels. She was always there to help us solve any issues that came up.

As our due date came close we were dealt a card that we weren't expecting. The midwife was concerned that I was showing signs of preeclampsia and wanted to induce right away. Our midwife is known for her low induction rates so I knew this was serious if she was bringing this up. We went for blood work and it confirmed our fears. I was induced that night at 39 weeks. Definitely not the start to labor that I was hoping for.

We labored naturally for 24 hours with Becky by our side. At that point we tried an epidural to help things along but the baby would not engage. He was being a stubborn little guy. After 34 hours I was wheeled away for a c-section which was devastating to me after working so hard for so long. This was such an emotional time and had Becky not been there to support us and help us, I really don't know how we would have fared emotionally. She was a calm presence during an extremely emotional time and she kept us focused and grounded during the entire process.

Becky, we are forever grateful to you for your endless support!! THANK YOU!

Everything ended perfectly and we brought our beautiful baby boy home three days later.

Asking Becky to be our doula was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Becky was recommended to us by a friend and, after meeting her, we knew that her calming personality and incredible knowledge were perfect for us. As first time parents with no family in the area, we wanted the extra support of a knowledgeable person helping us through the delivery. What we didn’t know is how much having a doula, particularly Becky, would help us. Throughout the twenty-three hours of labor, Becky knew exactly what to do to help Faith (mom) in those moments of intense pain and exhaustion. She knew how to direct Faith’s attention through breathing, visualization, and massage. Each of these things were so helpful and there is no way that Jeff (dad) could have provided this kind of quality support alone. For Jeff, Becky was the person he was comfortable asking questions and helping him to focus on supporting Faith, rather than worrying about how to breathe, visualize, and massage. Jeff did some of those things but only after Becky graciously told him what to do. Jeff could fully focus his attention on supporting Faith (not all of the other things going on around him). Becky was the perfect doula for us. Her support allowed the delivery of our baby boy to be the best experience it could possibly be and we will not hesitate to recommend her to anyone.

I gave birth to our 4 child on November 15,2012. This was my 3rd VBAC(vaginal birth after c section). I delivered in a new hospital this time. I was very nervous and in need of a third party to help advocate for me. I kept having false labor and Becky was amazing and so supportive. On the morning I finally went into real labor Becky showed up at my house and sat with me while I labored. She drove me to see my midwife in the afternoon to check my progress while my husband took one of our other children to my grandmothers. Once getting to my midwife my water broke. Becky was so calm and reassuring. This was my first natural birth; thanks to Becky. I have always had bad back labor and she was able to counter pressure in the perfect place. I am so glad we had Becky with is during this birth and I would absolutely recommend her to any other mom wanting support during labor. I don't think I could have done it without her. Amber Skene

Becky was a Godsend. We had interviewed with another doula, but due to the busyness of life, we did not send our confirmation soon enough and the other doula was no longer available. We asked around for recommendations and someone gave us Becky's name. We called her and despite the short notice -- and despite the fact that my due date was during the holidays (December 26th) -- she was willing to take us on.

Since we didn't have a lot of time, she rushed to do all the things that she would normally do with an expectant mother. She spoke with my husband and I about our ideal labor, helped us create a birth plan, talked through pain management techniques, etc. As we approached (and then passed) our due date, Becky recommended a variety of things to help prepare my body for birth and move things along.

I don't know what we would have done without Becky. It was so wonderful for both my husband and I to have someone else to talk to besides our doctors or nurses. Someone I could call and discuss things with -- both before, during, and after labor. And of course, during labor, Becky was indispensable. She helped guide us through, step by step, suggesting positions to move things along, methods for reducing pain, encouragement when I wanted to scream or quit. And when the baby was finally born, Becky made sure she latched and that breastfeeding got off to a good start. Becky's calm, gentle presence helped reassure both myself and my husband. If she hadn't been there, we would have spent much of our time alone, trying to figure things out together, a little lost and probably a little scared. Thanks to Becky, we were able to focus on managing the labor as best we could, instead of spending energy feeling worried or unsure of what to do.

As my husband likes to say, "You can't coach a game you've never played." But Becky could. And she did. And we are so grateful to her!

“As a first time father, it was nice to have Becky there to take some of the pressure off me. She reminded me of ways I could help ease the pain and was there when I needed a minute to eat or visit with family. She did not take over my role, but helped support me throughout the process. Having Becky as our doula helped relax me, which in turn relaxed mom.”

“As first time parents, we had no idea what to expect and were so thankful to have Becky as our doula. Throughout my pregnancy when I had a question, she was easily available through Facebook , texting, or over the phone. She is educated in the birth process and made me feel empowered and confident to make informed decisions that lead to the natural birth of our son. During labor, Becky was constantly by my side giving me one-on-one attention when our midwife and nurses were busy and not available. When having a contraction, her calming effect and encouraging words kept me going when I was ready to give in to the pain. Overall, having a doula was a positive and beneficial experience and I would recommend using a doula to my friends or for myself again in the future.”

Becky was great! I wound up having a C-section so I never was able to labor, but Becky was great with prenatal visits and helping with emotions associated with my complications and ultimately my surgery. She was also VERY helpful in helping my husband with the baby while I was getting sewn up.
