I am so, so glad that I had Shannon by my side throughout my first birth experience. Labor is hard to say the least, but feeling supported and encouraged throughout it makes such a huge difference in the experience you have that day and how you remember it - I don't know how I would have done it without Shannon there. Shannon met with us ahead of time which helped us get to know one another. She also offered lots of tips and advice as both a mother who had been through labor herself and as a trained doula that helped me feel more prepared for labor. She was available as soon as I called her once I was in labor (even though it was 3am!). During labor, Shannon was a rockstar. I appreciated both her calming and kind presence but also her initiative and practical support. I chose to have a natural labor in a hospital setting. Shannon was there the entire time with hands on support for pain management as well as guiding my husband on how to do maneuvers like pressing into my lower back to help ease the pain during contractions. She just seemed to know what I needed at just the right time, whether it was moving to the bathtub, shower, or trying a different position. Her encouragement helped get me through the moments when I felt like I couldn't make it.

I asked my husband for his inputs for this posting and here is what he had to say: "In addition to having someone who knows what’s going on and what’s normal at various periods in labor was reassuring.  What was particularly impressive about Shannon is that she did all the little things you didn’t know you wanted until they were there - a well timed stool, the massage technique for a particular type of pain, or anticipating what was just on the horizon.  Made the experience all the better for the partner."

My husband and I both cannot recommend Shannon highly enough - she is an amazing doula as well as a lovely person. I hope you get the chance to work with her!

Shannon is amazing!!! My husband and I went back and forth about having a doula or not, but as my due date neared, I really felt it was what we needed since I felt so strongly about having a med free vaginal birth. Meeting with her a couple times prior to labor really helped us connect on a personal level and truly put any fear or anxiety I had about labor to rest. Once labor started, I felt calm knowing that Shannon was ready to come over as soon as we asked her to. It was great having her labor at home with us before going to the hospital for many reasons, but a big one being that she could help us make the decision as to when to go to the hospital. Her presence was wonderful as labor progressed and became more intense. Although the nurses we had were excellent, they weren't in the room a lot. My husband and I would not have known or remembered all the strategies to cope with labor, so having Shannon with us was more helpful than I can even express. She was a second set of hands to help my husband apply counter pressure during each contraction.. she was incredibly knowledgeable and aware of everything that was going on to be an advocate for me and help us make decisions.. she took so many beautiful pictures for us the moment our son was born.. she was incredibly encouraging and reminded me how to breathe.. she stood on the bed and used the rebozo on me for a LONG time to help the baby flip, which had to be tiring.. she was there to help with the first nursing.. and most of all she has the most calm and soothing personality that I needed. During our first week home, she came over to give me some breastfeeding tips and talk about how we felt with our labor experience and clear up anything we couldn't remember. She was always available to answer questions in the weeks before and after labor, and she always checked in to see how doctor appointments went. Shannon is an excellent birth doula and we couldn't be happier with our decision to hire her.

Shannon is an absolutely fantastic doula! I had to be induced with my second child which made me very nervous, as i’m not a fan of medical intervention. Shannon immediately started asking all the necessary questions of my nurse to ensure I was not given more pitocin than I actually needed. I was so grateful that she was there to ask the questions that I wouldn’t have known to ask. Because of her knowledge I had an extremely low dose and a great labor experience. Shannon was knowledgeable and confident the entire labor which put me at ease. She also has a great personality. My husband and I enjoyed chatting with her and the conversation was a good distraction from labor pain. Shannon also assisted us with taking some priceless photos of my son immediately after birth. I’m so happy I have these first moments on film. She also helped me with breastfeeding prior to leaving the hospital. A little over a week following my sons birth, she visited us at our home. She checked on us and was there for any questions we had. Again we had a great conversation. I can’t say enough good things about Shannon. She was exactly who my husband and I needed by our side for this birth. I highly recommend her. Thank you Shannon!

Shannon was the most valuable person during my labor and delivery experience. My main goal was to avoid C section and Shannon helped me make that happen. Knowing myself, I had doubts on giving birth vaginally as I am intolerant to pain and a very anxious and sensitive person. She was very patient with me and catered to my needs while being my number 1 advocate at the birthing center. She was proactive and very knowledgeable throughout the entire process, I felt like she was my rock and I felt strong because she was there next to me the entire time. My labor lasted more than 48 hours, I pushed for 3.5 hours and delivered a healthy baby boy on 2/25/17. I recommend her 100%, I was very fortunate to have found her. She's amazing, and a God send.
