My first birth experience was an early, unexpected c-section that was very difficult for me emotionally. As I got further along in my second pregnancy, anxiety began to take over as I feared another surgery birth. My husband and I explored hiring a doula, and we interviewed with the Full Circle Doula Group. Immediately after the interview, I knew it was the right fit. Each doula has a unique skill set and background that we really loved. From that day on, my anxiety greatly subsided. We had so much fun talking with and getting to know Anne, Jenny, and Stacy through the prenatal classes. They really are a special group of women. Stacy attended our birth and was absolutely amazing. She knew what to say and do during contractions, and she adjusted her voice and tone to match what I needed emotionally. I loved how Stacy asked questions that guided informed decisions, and she asked in a way that was supportive and open. Stacy really went above and beyond for us, and we can now call her a friend.
Stacy is a magical superhuman! We really loved Jenny and Anne as well and were happy to have 3 great options with Full Circle but we ended up having Stacy for our birth and it we could not have been happier.
It was our first baby and we had a start and stop labor that lasted about 36 hours. Stacy talked us through the whole thing from the moment my water broke, through that evening and into the next day, when contractions all but disappeared. After 24hrs of my water breaking, we went into the hospital where they started to induce. By the time Stacy came, the next morning, I was already thinking about taking the drugs. My husband was wonderful but neither of us really knew what we were doing and the pain was getting old fast! Stacy got me into the shower and sprayed me with water for over an hour then supported me through another 8 hours of labor; using different positions, exercises and pressure points to help me along (as well as reminding my husband eat!). She navigated the hospital room and staff like a pro, to the point where my doctor asked for her info so that she could recommend her to her patients! When I was about 7 centimeters dilated, I elected to get the epidural and she made sure I felt empowered in that decision as well.
After our son was born and she was about to leave, I had some intense, uncontrollable shaking that lasted over an hour. Stacy stayed by my side the whole time, holding my hand and comforting me, all while lovingly keeping the hospital staff and well-meaning family at bay until I was able to calm down. When I think about Stacy, and what she meant to our family and bringing this new little guy into the world, I can't help but get teary. She was a tremendous support to us all; loving and strong and confident.
If you are thinking of trying to labor without drugs for any length of time, I HIGHLY recommend hiring these ladies to help you. We could not have done it without them.
I am so grateful to Stacy and the whole Tri valley Doula team for helping me achieve a successful VBAC! I wasn't exactly sure the role a Doula would play in the birth but now I cannot imagine how anyone gives birth without the gentle loving support of an experienced Doula. Stacy was with me the entire time, intuiting what i needed to keep me calm and comfortable, respecting my space when i needed it and keeping my partner in the loop. i believe that it was her presence that allowed me to successfully and joyfully navigate an induced VBAC. I really cannot recommend this group of women enough, they will forever be an essential part of my birth memory!
