My husband and I both found Dale and Lisa to be incredibly useful throughout my pregnancy. I strongly believe that Dale’s support and coaching helped me to find pain and labor management strategies that helped me avoid using an epidural during delivery and helped to speed my recovery and shorten my hospital stay. Dale and Lisa’s support resulted in me having a significantly faster recovery after giving birth as compared to my first pregnancy.
Dale once again helped me and my family welcome our second baby. While waiting for contractions to start we danced to try to get everything moving along. Dale was awesome enough to join me in dancing. It was hilarious and so fun! I ended up with an emergency C-section and she really helped with my stress and anxiety. She used techniques to help calm and relieve pain and discomfort. Dale is very informative and knowledgeable. She gave awesome tips and advice. I loved that I was able to be comfortable and myself around her. I can't say enough good things about her as a person and doula!!
Dale has been my doula for all four of my pregnancies. Each time Dale was concerned with only one thing... my well being. If I needed someone to talk to or if I needed her to sit with my children (who adore her) just so I can gave a few moments of peace she was there. I can always depend on Dale no matter what. Even though I am done having children, Dale will forever be a part of our family and we love her dearly.
Dale is an AMAZING workshop instructor. Not only were the materials she provided more than sufficient to understand the role and responsibilities of a postpartum doula, but Dale also works with you indivudually to cater the information to your particular interests -- even going so far as to help with the business administration side of things. You can tell Dale has a passion for top notch doula care, and she wants nothing more than to enable others to provide new moms with the same high-caliber care as she does. Dale is an amazing resource as well, with years of experience and many connections throughout the community. After her workshop, I feel fully prepared and absolutely ecstatic to be the best postpartum doula I can be. I look forward to staying in contact with her as I start this journey, and I know that thanks to her I am well prepared to excel! Thank you, Dale!
I'm a local birth doula and met Dale online and then struck up an acquiantance and had her as my back up doula for my most recent client. She went out of her way to meet with my client and get to know her so if she were called to the birth, she could be able to more fully support my client. She is always willing to help as back up and give advice to other doulas. She's very helpful and knowledgeable. She treated my most recent client as her own. Dale truly cares about her work as a doula and the women she serves.
I want to send a high shout out to Dale Kaplan The Coola Doula! She was amazing and helped me through my pregnancy and supported me during the birth of our baby. Dale is more then support, Dale is a friend and a mentor. My husband and i are forever grateful that Dale was a part of our first birth. I highly reccommend Dale as a Doula, she is available morning, noon and night and will be able to coach you through your birthing journey. Dale, we cannot Thank you Enough! Your geniune support and care are forever embedded in our hearts.

Dale Kaplan is an angel. She has helped me deliver all three of my children. She always made sure she knew all of my appointments so that she could be kept up to date. Tips for pain relief, what I should and shouldn't eat in preperation for labor. With my last child, the kitchen in the hospital that I was admitted to closed after a certain time. Dale went out and found something for me to eat. When I was sent home, Dale made home visits not just to check on the baby but to check on me as well. Dale has become a part of our family and we love her dearly. If you want someone who will be your consistant support system and only wants what you want and your happiness then hire Dale Kaplan. Believe me you will not be disppointed. If I should have any other children Dale will always be my doula.
Dale Kaplan was an amazing doula! My husband and I are first time parents and this is our first experience with a doula. We do not have many family members where we live and didn't have the help and information most families could share. Dale was resourceful and informative and gave us advice and tips to learn from. She taught us techniques on how to make pregnancy and the birth of our son less stressful. It was easy to ask her questions and talk to her without being judged on any of the decisions my husband and I made.
Dale was very throughough in providing tips and techniques from her many years of experience with birth. She went above and beyond our expectations and we were extremely happy with her services. Thanks Dale!
We recently attended Dale's ABC Childbirth Workshop. Dale is very personable and knowledgeable. She presented a wide range of material across pre-birth, labor and post-labor in a fun and informative format. She provided several tips throughout the class that we are sure to put to work in the next couple of weeks as I approach my due date. I would recommend Dale’s class to any expecting parents in search of a birthing class.
Working with Dale was wonderful. Her support and encouragement throughout my pregnancy was helpful to both me and my husband, especially in the information she provided on caring for baby and in teaching The Happiest Baby On the Block, which has been a lifesaver with our baby. When we found out the baby was breech at 37 weeks, Dale talked over all of the options with me and helped allay my fears and disappointment at not being able to have the birth I had been planning for, and get back to really looking forward to meeting our daughter. She came to the hospital for our scheduled c-section and stayed with us for hours after our baby's birth, then followed up at our home a few days later. Throughout the process, she was encouraging and no-nonsense at the same time, which was exactly what we were looking for in a doula.
There are no amount of words to say how wonderful Dale is. My husband and I first met Dale when I was pregnant with our first child. We were at a birthing class and Dale was there to explain her services to the couples there. We instantly had a connection and she has been with us ever since. Dale has helped me deliver two children, Elizabeth who has just turned one and our son Mordecai who is 6 weeks. I wouldn't trade Dale for anything in the world. As long as Dale is around and I continue to have children she will be my doula. She knows how to keep you calm and the atmosphere calm, she's helps you stay in control through each contraction.
Dale never once tried to force me to do anything that I did not want to do or did not feel comfortable doing. Once I was home from the hospital with each child Dale always made sure she came by to check on us. With Elizabeth I had a difficult time getting the hang of breast feeding. Dale did everything in her power to help me get through the rough patch so that I could continue breast feeding. Dale was always for my comfort, my baby's comfort, and our well being. I will recommend her to any and everyone I know for as long as Dale is continues to offer her services.
My husband Nathan and I are so grateful for Dale's help during the delivery of our baby girl in March 2014. She and her fellow doula Lisa Libowitz tag teamed, with Lisa going with me into the OR for my cesarean section and Dale staying with my (at the time) nervous husband, to help reassure him. Thank you both!
I am a new doula, having completed my initial training in Baltimore in January. Since then, Dale has been serving as a mentor, answering questions and providing a wealth of information. During my first experience as a doula, she allowed me to call her anytime (day or night) with questions. I felt like she was my "safety net," and that with her as a mentor I couldn't fail. That confidence allowed me to focus on the important part of the process: my mom-to-be! She is absolutely fantastic, as both a doula and a mentor.
Dale helped me deliver my 1st baby. It was a new eperience for me in two lights... one, of course, was having my 1st baby and two having a doula. I had heard of doulas, but did not expect to have one. The hospital offered her services to me when I came in during labor. It was awesome!
Dale assisted me in breathing, she helped me in and out of the tub and even held the shower head for me and gave me a water shoulder rub, as I was going nuts from labor pains. LOL She was extremely helpful in keeping my family calm and humored through labor. Upon delivery Dale was quick to be by my side and assist with breathing as well as calmly repeat the nurses and doctors orders as I wasnt focused with everyone talking to me. She was like zen for me in a state of high activity.
She encouraged my best friend to assist in the delivery, which Im happy about. But she definitely was not pushy and allowed the situation to flow naturally. I truly appreciated her being there. I highly recommend her services.
Dale did a wonderful job as my doula. She educated me on how to take care of my body during my pregnancy, as well as what to expect during labor and delivery. I think the best part about having her was that she was able to help my husband to coach me, and also to participate in pain-relieving techniques. She told him how to read the monitors, kept him calm, and engaged him when he didn't know how to help out. When it came time to have the epidural (which I was very afraid of), Dale kept me steady and calm and helped me through it. She was very attentive in every way, and knew what I needed when I didn't know what I wanted, or couldn't vocalize it. It was a great experience.
Dale was very generous with her time before, during, and after the birth. I had problems with insomnia and nausea during my last trimester and Dale had many suggestions for natural solutions which I appreciated. She was also very supportive and helpful to my husband when I had a bad reaction to a drug I was given.
Dale was present at the birth of my firstborn, though I planned to have an epidural. Since she made me feel like an old pro at this labor thing, I didn't think I needed much support the second time -- I'd just get another epidural, right?
I ended up being wrong. My son came out so quickly that they didn't have time to give me an epidural. I had a completely natural birth, and thankfully it was over fast. I do need to give Dale credit for my ability to remain calm and have a relatively uneventful second NATURAL labor. I remembered my coaching. My husband was great, but he was not the same as having another woman there. I'm not sure I would have wanted a natural labor the first time around when labor is longer, but it's definitely the way to go for subsequent births. Just wish I would have had Dale there.
The Coula Doula was nothing short of unbelievable. Her dedication could not have been matched as she was there for us every step of the way. Dale continued to be there for us even after our son was born offering us her wisdom, insight, and special touch. We feel really lucky to have had Dale with us during this incredible time in our lives.

Thanks for sending on these wonderful testimonials about your capabilities. I must say that the midwife that my husband and I used (she was the first licensed midwife in the state of Maryland) was absolutely terrible. She came to the hospital after I had been in labor for sixteen hours and my husband had called her for help. When the doctor declared that I had to have a C-section “stat” and actually cut me open before I even got into the operating room, she fell on the floor and cried that I was her “first failure.” The doctor, on the other hand, said “it’s a boy and he’s alive.” I wish I had had you with me instead.
A husband's experience with the "Coola Doula" Mrs. Dale C. Kaplan. I first met Dale when my wife, 4 year old daughter and I attended a Third Trimester Birthing Class led by the midwife my wife had been seeing at Maryland General Hospital (my wife was in her 7th month.) I think it is important to mention that this was my wife's first pregnancy. She explained her role during the labor and delivery process. She also, in less than a minute ran down in great detail the labor and delivery process in a way that made us realize; maybe we hadn't made every consideration and that while the doctors, midwives, nurses, etc. were there to see to the needs of my wife and child that was on the way. I began to wonder who was going to be there to support me...and make sure i was okay and that we were both fully prepared for every contingency?! We set a date to meet a month later to discuss details and options concerning our birth plan. In the meantime, Dale was calling and emailing at least once a week sometimes more to check up on my wife and see how she was progressing and to answer any questions. Finally, after about 36-40 hours of labor (eight of which was in the hospital) there were signs of distress in both my wife and the baby and Dale noticed it before the medical staff because she never left my wife's side. She was reading the monitors and reading the signs in my wife's body. A C-Section was eminent. Dale accompanied me in the operating room and explained to me what the doctor and medical personel were doing. Since being discharged from the hospital Dale has made three home visits in as many weeks and several phone calls and texts to check up on us. I must say that her wealth of knowledge, incredible warmth and empathy and genuine and compassionate bedside manner has made her number one in my book. I would recommend the "Coola Doula" to anyone.
I would like to take a moment to speak on my personal experiences of when I decided to work with the "Coula Doula" Mrs. Dale Kaplan. A couple of weeks after meeting I decided to seek the "Coula Doula" for her services. I had come to the realization that I was in a situation where I didn't have the support I needed. I didn't have someone there to provide that unconditional attention to a healthy delivery other than me, someone to remind me that I didn't want or need a C-Section, and that I could successfully take the natural route no matter how intense the pain may seem. The "Coula Doula" was always available when I needed her. Any concerns were immediately addressed. I began to speak with Ms.Kaplan daily about a month before my due date. We would discuss things like getting ready to deliver naturally, my birth plan, diet and excercise, and of course how to cope while in labor.
During my labor Dale was definitely right by my side! Whether I was receiving a massage from her or she was reminding the nurse staff that I needed my pain managed a little better, she was encouraging me to keep up the good work. She never left my side during the entire process. I knew what to expect and Dale made sure I was comfortable & confident. 28.5 hours later, I naturally delivered my daughter! I truly believe without Dale's support I mentally may have "checked out" and unfortunately may have had to undergo an emergency C-Section due to complications from panicking! After giving birth to my daughter, the "Coula Doula" still provided her services. She visited our home and demonstrated ways to soothe my newborn as well as tips and tricks for breastfeeding. I definitely could not have had such a great experience giving birth and becoming a mother, without the "Coula Doula" I definitely recommend the "Coula Doula" to all expecting mothers!
Having Dale with me and my husband at the birth our daughter was an amazing experince. Dale met with us prior to my due date and was available 24/7 until labor started. Dale kept both of us calm through the entire labor (10 hours from admission until birth). Dale was able to maintain the perfect balance of supporting me while allowing my husband to be involved as well. Dale was also able to be our spokesperson and communicated what I wanted or needed to the nurses and the doctor. She used her experinces in the delivery room to help us make the most informed choices while still allowing us to make the final call. Dale was 100% supportive of the fact that I wanted an epidural yet she still played an imperative role in the birth. Having Dale with us at the birth allowed us to relax as much as possible and enjoy the birth of our first child. Dale also helped me nurse for the first time. Because of her supporting role in that initial feeding, I am still nursing my daughter almost 7 months later. She helped me lay the foundations for a healthy nursing relationship. Dale followed up with us a week later to check in and see how we were adjusting as new parents and to answer any of my questions about nursing. Overall, having Dale with us on our journey to parenthood was a choice we would make again and again.
This was a positive but unique experience for me. It was unique because my childs father was absent by choice. Dale's presence was uneqivocally important. She provided physical and emotional support. She made sure I was as comfortable as possible, considering the fact that I chose to have an all natural child birth. I have to mention she was available to me prior to my son being born. She called and checked on me daily when I was close to delivery. It was so amazing because I felt like she was just as excited about my baby's arrival. The day of delivery I called her while she was at work and she even offered to leave and come over. I declined her offer, but as soon as I arrived to the hospital, Dale came there. She knew just what to do and more importantly she respected my wishes. In summary, Dale was awesome!
