Carolynn is an amazing woman and doula??She really helped me understand my options and advocate with my doctors both during prenatal appointments and in the hospital. She really helped my husband and I feel calm and special throughout each of our pregnancies and deliveries. I can remember moments where I really didn't think I could handle labor but she kept me focused, laughing, calm, and strong. She is very loving, fun, knowledgeable, respectful and spiritually encouraging. I am so thankful God brought her into our lives and she helped me bring 2 wonderful babies into this world.

I think everyone I know has heard me tell them how much I loved having Carolynn as our doula! She made me feel so supported throughout my pregnancy, & when labor progressed much quicker than anticipated, she ended up delivering my baby & is a big reason why my birth is the beautiful story that it is!

When I got pregnant with my 2nd baby I knew I wanted to experience a low intervention birth. My husband & I met with Carolynn & I knew I wanted her as my doula. She spent a lot of time with us, & I loved her confidence, experience, & faith in Jesus that we shared. She was a great support during pregnancy, & I knew I could always text her about anything & she met with us multiple times. We also took her birth class at BTC which was great.

I called Carolynn after about an hour of contractions, & she arrived as quickly as she could to help support me at home as my plan was to labor at home before heading into the hospital. When she arrived she was an instant comfort & made me feel safe. After she arrived she could tell we weren't going to make it to the hospital & she called a local midwife, & before I knew it I was pushing our baby out. Carolynn stayed calm & confident, & helped us deliver our baby with a midwife over the phone. Our baby's shoulder ended up getting stuck on the way out, & she stayed calm, patient, & took instructions from the midwife to find his shoulder & rotate it. I don't know what we would have done without her there & I'm amazed at how she stepped up & took care of us. Her presence & expertise made our birth such a beautiful & peaceful experience. She supported us so well during the postpartum phase, & came over multiple times to help with breastfeeding, etc. We are hoping to grow our family more in the future, & she will be one of the first phone calls I make to hire her as our doula again!

We highly recommend working with Carolynn for your birth. We met Carolynn through the birth class she teaches at BTC. The birth class was informative and engaging, and we appreciated her vast knowledge and positive attitude. After hiring her as our doula, we found out our baby was breech- she offered recommendations to try to get him to flip and came to our house and did two hours of Spinning Babies exercises with me. While our baby was content remaining head up, Carolynn was a huge help to me and my husband during my ECV procedure and unplanned c-section a few days later. Having her support and experience made us both much more comfortable. She also provided a wealth of information after our baby was born and massively improved our sleep - I went from sleeping 4 hours max a night to averaging 7 hours after her initial postpartum visit. We can’t recommend Carolynn enough!

Hiring Carolynn to be our doula was one of the best decisions we made during our pregnancy. Her care and support were invaluable to labor as well as postpartum.
During our pregnancy she offered support by meeting with us multiple times to check in, go over our birth plan, offer suggestions and pray with us (as we share the same faith). Each time our confidence was boosted and we felt more prepared for the birth of our firstborn.
We were also able to attend one of her BTC classes about comfort measures during labor. This class was helpful particularly for the early labor stage when we were at our house before calling Carolynn. This class helped prepare both my husband and I to know how to be a team during labor.

During labor Carolynn joined us at the birth center when we arrived there. (She was available to come to our house before that but my labor was very fast.) My pain level at that point was getting much stronger as I neared transition. The moment Carolynn entered the room she started to rub my back and could read my body to prep me for contractions before I was even aware they were starting. Before Carolynn arrived my pain level was nearing a 9 and with her support I was able to stay relaxed which brought it down to more like a 6. Throughout the rest of labor she was able to offer excellent support for positions to try for comfort, give mental and emotional support, and keep my husband eating and drinking also.

Postpartum her support continued! She visited us multiple times, helped me with breastfeeding, and checked in with me consistently to see how we were adjusting.
Every time we met with her she gave her time generously never rushed a meeting. We were able to ask tons of questions about labor, newborn life, and more!
We literally recommend her to every pregnant friend we know!
We are looking forward to hiring her again whenever we have our next child.

My praise for Carolynn couldn't be higher. She was an amazing, calming support throughout the pregnancy and after but especially during labor her reminders through every contraction and counter pressure helped so much. She also was supporting my husband through the labor and making sure I had water and a quick snack for energy. Her emotional support through one of the hardest things I have every done will not be forgotten. I could not have done it without her there supporting me and knowing she had gone through labor herself and knew what I was was feeling. Just knowing you have a knowledgeable/experienced friend/doula who is there for whatever you need makes all the difference. If you're looking for the best, you need Carolynn.

Carolynn was amazing. She was an incredible support. I don't think we would have made it through an epidural free delivery without her. She was a huge support to myself and my spouse. She anticipated our every need. She read the room and always knew what we needed. 10/10 reccomend. I will not have another baby without her!

Great experience. Carolynn offered us peace of mind throughout. Good communication and information. She's dependable with showing up. Her experience and innate comforting nature helped my wife from the beginning to end.

We are so thankful for Carolynn! We ended up in an unexpected situation as precipitous labor brought me to full transition at home - not quite the hospital birth we had planned! Carolynn arrived just in time to help support my husband and I as I labored at home. She supported me physically and emotionally as I delivered our baby 30 minutes or so after her arrival!

Throughout my pregnancy she was helpful, communicative, and answered any questions I had, big or small. She worked with me to craft a birth plan that felt aligned with what I desired out of my birth (though it all went out the window when I ended up delivering at home!), and provided the ultimate support when we needed it most. My husband and I appreciate Carolynn so much and would recommend her to anyone we know!

Carolynn was an incredible doula. She was very supportive throughout the whole process. My early stage of labor was quite long and drawn out and Carolynn was always just a call or text away coaching my husband and I about various things to speed up and handle the early stages of labor. At the hospital she was so responsive and proactive in helping me through my unmedicated birth. I'm so thankful for her support and encouragement, both emotional and spiritual.

Our experience with Carolynn was amazing! She was a great coach, and we really apprecated her birth class as well (taught at Bellingham Technical College). She was a great listener, and even gave some postpartum help with breastfeeding at her followup check in following birth. She would especially be a great choice for Moms who have limited outside support, as she wants not only to support your birth, but you as a person leading up the the event, both logistally, emotionally and spiritually. A strong, dependable and encouraging personally that made me feel I need not have a care in the world in the birthing room, but was able to focus on my task ahead.

I've had Carolynn as my doula for my last two births and am ever so thankful I did. She is a wonderful support to both me and my husband and is very intuitive about what might be helpful as things unfold. She was respectful of any decisions we would make and not pushy in any way of her own opinion.

carolynn is a tremendous blessing and I highly recommend her doula services!

Throughout the entire labor Carolynn was beyond supportive and encouraging! She was empowering and opened my eyes to realize what an amazing and beautiful experience birth truly is as well as helping me overcome any fears I had. She helped me to work with my body during the labor and the calmness and excitement she brings to the room made all the difference. I will definitely be requesting to have her as my doula for all my births. Truly a remarkable doula!

Carolynn Slocum took the time to get to know my husband and me. She met with us several times before the birth to hear our concerns and understand our dynamic as a couple. During the birth she talked me through every contraction, reminding me how to breathe, helped me to think positively, and recomended positions to help lessen the pain. She is the reason that I never felt overwhelmed and the ONLY reason I was able to achieve the natural birth I wanted. She goes above and beyond. She stayed awake encouraging me and massaging my sacrum for 12+ hours, after she had already been awake for a full day. My husband found her prescence reassuring because she knew all about labor, and was his safety net if he felt overwhelmed or fatigued. She reminded him to eat and take breaks, and made him feel like he could do so without leaving me to fend for myself becasue she was there. She also made sure we had photos of our first moments with our son. We treasure these, and would not have them if Carolynn hadn't thought to capture those precious moments. After the birth she visited us at our house and gave me breastfeeding advice. She also listened to us recount the brith and asked us what she could have done better. After a lot of thought we replied, "Only if you could have read our minds." We tend to overthink things, so it was hard for us to determine when it was time to call Carolynn to come start helping. From the moment she arrived to when our baby was born, she intuitively knew when it was time for the next step and helped us feel ready for it. Thank you Carolynn!

We had a wonderful experience with Carolynn throughout our pregnancy and delivery and have highly recommended her to many other friends since! We enlisted her for private childbirth education classes with a few other couples, which was phenomenal and really helped us feel prepared for all the unknowns of bringing a baby into the world for the first time. Throughout a very long and grueling birth, she never left our side and poured so much support, encouragement, and practical help to get us through. And even though she wasn't able to see our daughter's entry into the world due to a late hospital transfer and Covid restrictions, she was there every step of the way checking in with us by text and visiting us once we were home. We can't imagine getting through that fairly traumatic experience without all of her care. Carolynn is amazing and we're so grateful for the significant role she played in our birth story!

My husband and I have worked with Carolynn now through two births.  She was fabulous at both and I would recommend her to anyone!  She was kind and considerate remembering details about what we wanted for support.  I think the thing that I appreciated most about her was the emotional support she offered both before, during and after the birth.  She was checking in prior and post birth, was available to talk through the things weighing on my mind and heart, and helped brainstorm ideas for addressing them.  Though our actual birth/labor was pretty short the second time around I would still choose to work with a doula and specifically Carolynn again if given the opportunity :)

Hiring a doula was probably the best decision I made for my birth, and the fact that I got to work with Carolynn was just such a gift and I'm so grateful I found her!

I was on the fence about a doula, I wasn't sure if it would be necessary for us but after I met with Carolynn I knew I wanted her at my sons birth. Even before I went into labor, I felt so cared for. I was able to ask her any questions I had, and she offered so much insight and piece of mind. When it came time for actual labor she was such a strong and steady support for both my husband and I (emotionally and physically!) she never waivered even when it meant staying up basically all night while I labored. I really don't think I could have done what I did without her!
Due to unforeseen circumstances I ended up needing to be transferred from the birth center to the hospital at 9.5 centimeters, and I'll never forget her praying over me and my husband while my midwife called the paramedics. She was just irreplaceable. She stuck with us all through the transfer, driving my husband over to the hospital, advocated for us in a stressful and unplanned situation and environment. She was so familiar with the hospital staff and procedures and that put us at ease especially because that wasn't our plan.

I could go on and on, I can't say enough good things about Carolynn! I will absolutely be calling her when it's time for our next baby. Hire her, you will not regret it.

Working with Carolynn as my doula proved to be one of the best decisions I made for my pregnancy. Carolynn was an absolute god send, and made my first pregnancy and delivery a wonderful experience. I can’t imagine doing it any other way, and would strongly recommend her to expecting mothers - first time or not! In my third trimester, Carolynn provided a private birthing class for my husband and I that was incredibly helpful. This gave us time to get to know her, learn more about the birthing process, and ask any questions we had. She was available for follow up questions via email and text and always responded promptly. She also asked how she could continue to pray for my husband and I during the pregnancy, which was so thoughtful.

Carolynn brought an amazing sense of calm, encouragement, and organization to the labor room. She guided me through the process while prioritizing my desires and concerns. She also helped guide my husband on how he could participate and made him feel helpful and part of the experience.

It was such a blessing having Carolynn by my side for my pregnancy and delivery. She gave me the peace of mind and confidence to bring my little girl into the world, and I can’t thank her enough!

Carolynn is amazing! Having her support made my husband and me feel so much more confident for our first birth experience. Whether it was suggesting helpful positions, guiding me through a contraction, or simply offering a well-timed, comforting touch, Carolynn was a wonderful support through each step of labor. When we first decided to pursue natural birth, we weren’t sure if we would choose to have a doula. Now we look back and are so grateful we did! Her calming presence and knowledge drawn from years of experience made a world of difference for us, and we highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone to walk with them through their labor and birth journey.

Carolynn was so wonderful! So supportive and prayerful over this fearful and worried first time mom. We took her comfort techniques class virtually through WCC, which we found very helpful and informative. She answered all of our questions and worries leading up to birth and brought so much clarity and calm to us in the birthing room. She stood by my side through the entire experience and a few precious hours after the birth. Also checking in with us in the days following. I so appreciated being able to process the experience with her after the birth in the weeks following. She was encouraging to me in my decisions and helped me understand some of the things that were either hard to remember or wrap my mind around in the moments of pushing. This really helped me to come to terms with my experience and I found so much peace processing it allowed with her. I highly recommend Carolynn to any first time mom. We'd love to have her support in any future births Lord willing.

I really liked having Carolyn as my doula. She was able to help me relax though contractions, she was able to help me get comfortable in different positions while in labor, able do help me eat and drink while laboring at home, and also was just great to talk to. I had a very good and quick labor and I am super glad I had her to help.

I was so grateful to have Carolynn with me during my labor and delivery this summer.

She stayed with me for the entirety of my active labor, which was over 12 hours, and was by my side while I had to undergo an emergency c-section in the middle of the night and early morning. Carolynn was an insightful and fun labor coach, working with me and my body to have, truly, and enjoyable labor experience.

Once things became apparent that my little one wouldn't be able to be born vaginally (he was sunnyside up and the umbilical cord had wrapped around his neck), Carolynn helped keep me calm and grounded as I prepared for surgery. I can't express my thankfulness that she was with me for the caesarian; and she was able to care for my newborn as I recovered, assisting with skin-to-skin with me and my baby and getting baby nursing right away.

From her caring guidance weeks before birth, to actively helping at the hospital, and follow up care weeks after, Carolynn has been a consistently invovled and critically helpful part of our complete experience. I highly recommend her services!

We hired Carolynn for the birth of our second baby and we would do it again in a heartbeat if we have another. She was always available during the pregnancy for any questions or support. I found this particularly helpful as I had some difficulties in my pregnancy. She was always there with answers or encouragement. During the birth she was very encouraging and always offering suggestions to make me more comfortable. She listened to all my wishes and allowed us to have the birth experience that we always wanted! My husband could just relax and focus on being with me for the birth of our son. If you are looking for a doula, Carolynn would be a great choice!

Carolynn was our doula for the birth of our second child.  While I felt like I remembered (somewhat) what to expect during delivery, she offered a wealth of information prior to the birth (both one on one and through her BTC birth class).  I found her extremely easy to talk to and connect with and looked forward to her assistance during the delivery.  She was responsive to all my questions and helped ease the stress of an impending induction.   I was really hoping for an all natural delivery and Carolynn was critical in helping me move through the labor.  She had a quiet presence in the delivery room, but was right by my side before I knew I needed her.  I felt her presence to be very calming and reassuring for me, especially as my labor began to rapidly progress.  I was extremely thankful to have Carolynn present at the birth and highly recommend her to other expectant parents!

The short version:  I couldn't be happier with my decision to have Carolynn on my labor team!  Would I hire her again?  100% Yes.  Would I recommend her?  100% Yes.

The long(er) version:  A few months ago, I really had no idea what a doula did and I never imagined I might be interested in hiring one, or even able to do so since I was having my baby in the hospital (I guess I assumed it was something people who have babies at home or at birthing centers do.)  That was until I learned, during my childbirth class, what exactly a doula is and the statistics related to decreased c-sections and use of pain meds; two of my primary concerns (I kept being told I had a high chance of a c-section due to "advanced maternal age" and a LGA baby.)  It was my hope to avoid these two interventions unless absolutely necessary and I was very interested in having someone help me advocate for myself; I knew my husband would do his best but also knew we're both totally relying on the professionals to guide us... now I know that a doula is just what I needed.  Without going into all the details, I have zero doubt that the reason I was able to realize my birth plan was a direct result of Carolynn's support and guidance.  She has an innate ability to know when to step in and when to step back; she jived well with the hospital staff while also being the support I needed her to be for me & my husband.  Now that I've been through it, I can honestly say that Carolynn is the epitome of what a doula should be: knowledgeable, experienced, non-judgemental, supportive, kind... and funny, too.  In my opinion, all the things you'd want from your doubla.  I had great labor & delivery experience and I am so thankful we hired her.  My husband and I HIGHLY recommend!

My daughter met Carolynn through birth classes at BTC. I knew when she came home from the first class that she was the doula for us because of how comfortable she made my daughter feel (and she is a young mom who suffers from anxiety and depression so that is saying a lot!). From the moment we made the decision my anxiety about the birth experience went down about 50% knowing we had her on our team. I knew that I had back up and someone who would know the right thing to do in the moment. Carolynn was so great communicating with my daughter before the birth and into labor always making her feel taken care of and advocated for. Our experience from the time Carolynn arrived for the home portion of the labor all the way through to a few hours after birth at the hospital she was exactly what we had hoped for. Supportive, loving, nurturing and a wealth of knowledge to help the process go along as smoothly as possible. There isn't a single thing I would have changed or wished was different. After we took the birth techniques class from Carolynn I called her the birthing ninja and she totally was just that. What a beautiful experience, both for me and my daughter having her with us every step of the way. Every woman deserves that level of support!

Carolynn was so supportive during the birth of our daughter. She helped ensure I was comfortable and helped to manage my pain which allowed my husband to focus on me and his own mental health during the birth. Hiring Carolynn was hands down the best investment and having her there brought us both a lot of piece of mind. When our daughter was born and had to go to the nursery due to complications, Carolynn stayed with me and kept me updated so my husband could be with the baby. I couldn't more highly recommend Carolynn!

My husband and I had such a wonderful experience working with Carolynn! :) Halfway through my pregnancy, my husband and I decided to give birth at Bellingham Birth Center instead of at the hospital. We were pregnant with our first baby and knew we would need extra support and guidance. We heard about Carolynn through a friend who highly recommended her. Carolynn met with us before and after the birth to coach us as well as debrief after the birth. We felt so comfortable around Carolynn and were so thankful to have her and with us through labor. She knew right when to step in and exactly what to say/do. If you are looking for a doula, I would highly recommended working with Carolynn :)

Carolynn was the perfect addition to my support system for the birth of my son. The first time we met, just minutes into our conversation i knew i wanted her as my doula! She is one of the sweetest, down to earth people I’ve ever met. My birth plan changed drastically because i had to get induced 2 weeks before my due date. (Super scary for a first time mom). Carolynn was there for the entire process. She was the support i needed to calm my nerves. During labor, she was such a huge help. Honestly i dont know what we would of done without her. After i gave birth my mom said “ i would of paid her 5,000 to be there for you”. My husband didn’t exactly get what a doula was. Now he tells everyone they need one. So thankful for Carolynn!!!

As a first time mother, I was interested in hiring a doula to guide me through the process of birth. A good friend of mine knew Carolynn and suggested her to me. Carolynn spent time with me before the birth when I had worries about my breech baby not turning in time and gave me things to try which gave me confidence in her and surrounding the birth. On the day I gave birth she was my advocate in every way I had hoped. She communicated to the staff in the room my needs and helped me try different positions for pushing. She also massaged me, used essential oils and other techniques that helped me stay calm and focused. There was a room full of people ready to rush me into C-section, and she helped me focus on what I needed to in order to have a vaginal birth. I had hoped for a non-medicated birth, but decided on going with an epidural. She supported my decisions and talked through them with me. In the end I pushed for over four hours and don't think I could have done it without her support and encouragement. She is amazing and I would definitely recommend her!

Carolynn was amazing to work with!

My wife and I are so grateful she was a part of our daughter's birth process. She was extremely helpful, knowledgable, professional and fit in natually to the birth process. She worked amazingly with the Birthroot Midwives to assist in a smooth delivery, and we loved the entire experience. We keep sharing her name as we tell our birth story with friends and family, and would highly recommend her.

We had Carolynn as our doula for our third baby and she was an invaluable help to us!

She was always available during my pregnancy for me to chat with about how things were going and had great suggestions when our baby was breech for a while. Carolynn was always quick to ask for ways she could pray for us which I really appreciated.

During labor, Carolynn was a great person to have with us. I was aiming for an unmedicated birth and this would have been my second VBAC. She was willing to come to the hospital whenever we felt like we needed her. She helped motivate me during contractions when I was starting to doubt myself. She gave lots of different suggestions for ways to help me with pain management.

Although I did not end up with a VBAC due to baby positioning, Carolynn stayed until I was out of the OR after my C-Section and was able to be with us in the recovery room for a while immediately after the baby.

Carolynn is a kind and caring person and is an excellent resource to have beside you during labor. I highly recommend hiring her if you need a doula!

My husband and I had the good fortune to take a pregnancy and childbirth class taught by Carolynn. We immediately felt comfortable in the class and with her. Carolynn is confident, warm, and extremely knowedgable about everything pregnancy and childbirth-related. In one class, Carolynn brought in a doula to explain the doula's role in labor and delivery. I became interested in having a doula at our birth and asked Carolynn if she might be available. She said she was.

My birth experience was unique because I actually had two doulas--the woman who presented to our class (who was in the process of becoming a certified doula) and Carolynn. Both were outstanding. Carolynn arrived for active labor (as planned) and I felt tremendous comfort when I heard her voice.

Carolynn provided reassurance by her simple presence. She also maintained a calm, soothing voice and reminded me of copng techniques she taught in our class.

Not only did Carolynn provide verbal support, she also provided physical support throughout transition. She held one of my legs when I was pushing and also held my hand. She helped move me between poses and brought her face near mine when I needed a familiar face.

I highly recommend Carolynn Slocum as a birth doula!

Carolynn was amazing! I can't recommend her enough - it was our first birth and she helped us navigate through the stages of labor and answered our many questions. She was patient and caring all the way until the end. She has so much experience it really showed - at the hospital she knew where everything was and made labor position suggestions - even the nurses probably learned something. She gave so much support to me and my husband, we love Carolynn!

My husband and I took a weekend birthing crash course about a month before I was due with our first child. Carolynn Slocum taught the class and I thought she was wonderful. She was warm, extremely knowledgeable, and it was evident that she was genuinely passionate about giving her students as many tools and as much knowledge as possible in order to help them have the best birth experience possible. I was already working with the Peace Health midwives, but when I became aware of the additional support a doula would provide to both myself and my husband during our very first labor/birthing experience, I decided a doula needed to be part of my support team. Once I had made this decision I reached out to Carolynn to determine if she was available to be my doula as I already felt comfortable with and really liked her. To my delight and relief, she agreed to work with me.

Although nearly every aspect of my birthing experience deviated from my birth plan, I could not be happier about my experience with Carolynn Slocum as my doula. Carolynn and I had discussed at length my desire to have as little intervention and medication as possible during labor, but fourteen hours after my water broke and no contractions, made a discussion about enlisting the assistance of Pitocin necessary. Though pitocin was added my body failed to respond appropriately. As labor progressed, the well-being of my daughter was questioned.  Although I ended up having an epidural, an internal fetal monitor, and ultimately an emergency cesarean section, I could not be more satisfied with my support team or how my labor story played out. I am confident that every decision made was the right one; I gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby, and I felt heard and supported every step of the way. Carolynn could not have been more amazing. She was warm and attentive. With kind words and gentle touch she helped me to remember to relax and to breath, and that I was strong and brave.

Carolynn was amazing!! Not just during the birth but pre and post natal. She gave tips for getting baby into correct position. As well as post birth recovery. During the birth and labor process she helped advocate for my and baby’s best interest. My birth didn’t go as planned and she helped my husband and I navigate the unexpected decisions along the way. I remember sitting in the bathtub at one point and she pulled out a foam pad and sat down beside me-for over an hour.  Just holding space for me. Helping me breathe through contractions and lending support. Thank you Carolynn!

I highly recommend Carolynn Slocum as a doula! She has an awesome personality and is a great encourager and coach. I had a very long and hard labor and she really helped both me and my husband as we went through the grueling process. She is so knowledgeable and had so many great ideas of things to try to help keep labor progressing and to get the baby to move into position. She also went above and beyond and ran to the co-op at almost 10pm to go and get some natural homeopathy that helped keep my labor progressing and came to the hospital 2 different times because of how my labor went(I was induced and so we weren’t totally sure when baby was going to arrive so we called her to soon the first time and she stayed with us until it was apparent baby wasn’t coming so she went home for a few hours before coming back and staying with us till he came which was around 24 hrs later)! Once our baby was born, she stayed and helped get our baby to nurse that first time which was huge. Again we can’t speak highly enough of her! Thank you Carolynn for helping us welcome our sweet baby into the world!

We have had Carolynn as our doula for 3 births now and she has been so helpful each time. She has a very solid and calm presence the whole time and is very knowledgeable. She is super friendly and kind but also is not afraid to be the "take charge" person to help you get back on track during labor or to change what you are doing to help things along. She also is really good at listening to concerns and answering questions no matter how small :) I highly recommend her.

Carolynn was fabulous! Both my husband and I so appreciated her insight and encouragement and wisdom. We really think it was because of her being present that we were able and comfortable to labor at home as long as we did!  She was also available for chatting when anxiety came up and for fleshing that out well Prior to birth, nonjudgmental and compassionate.

So grateful she was with us!!

Shortly after finding out I was pregnant with my second child I contacted Carolynn to request that she be my doula for the second time. She rearranged her schedule to accommodate me as a repeat client. Knowing she would assist me again gave me peace throughout my pregnancy as I anticipated labor. Carolynn was quick to answer questions I sent via text, and met with me twice prior to labor.

When I began having contractions Carolyyn met me at the hospital with very short notice. She calmly talked with me as I paced the halls of the hospital, and with each contraction would massage or apply pressure to my back. As labor progressed she gently encouraged me, assisted in me laboring in the bath, and made me feel completely supported during all of it. I would highly recommend Carolynn as a knowledgeable and experienced doula who supported me through labor and delivery twice in a selfless manner. Her warm and comforting personality were a perfect fit for me.

Carolynn was recommended to us by many friends. We met with her and took an birthing preparation class from her. As we got to know her, we knew she was the right fit for us. Carolynn is very knowledgeable and experienced. She offered advice to me throughout my pregnancy, and when the day arrived, she was a fabulous support person for my husband and me. During labor she helped me to remain calm (as much as possible) and offered support when I had questions or concerns about how my labor was progressing. She also offered my husband, who had no idea how to support me in that situation, advice on how to best support me. After birth, when my hormones were going crazy, she offered me support many times when I became a frantic new mom. We will definitely recommend her to others seeking the support of a Doula. She played a very special part in the birth story of our first daughter!

Carolynn was so wonderful to work with for the birth of our first child! She took the time to reallyget to know us and understand our ideal birth... she even brought out things we didn’t know to ask or think about. She’s so knowledgeable and was a calming and supportive influence in our birth experience. We highly recommend Carolynn and would hire her without hesitation for future births!

My wife's and my experience with Carolynn has been great which is why we have had Carolynn as a doula for the births of all three of our children.  Aside from Carolynn's knowledge and experience (not only as a doula, but in giving birth to a number of her own babies), she has a great demeanor for a doula.  I would definitely recommend Carolynn as a doula!

This was my sixth baby and my second time using Caroline as my doula.  You would think that after having five babies, I would know what to expect  with baby number six, but  every baby seems to have their own individual birth story. This baby was no exception.  I thought I was going into labor in the morning but everything slowed down  and by 4 o'clock in the afternoon I was getting discouraged. Caroline was so encouraging and just told me to relax and see how things went. No pressure, just let my body do what it needed to do.  When I finally did go in to labor it was super quick. Caroline was ready at a moments notice.  She helped me stay so calm and relaxed. She knew exactly when to step in and when to just quietly wait at my side. I appreciated her being so present and yet allowing my husband  to be equally involved.  This was my most smooth delivery yet. I really believe that Caroline played a huge part in the reason I was able to stay calm and have the most relaxed labor and delivery possible.  I truly enjoyed the entire experience and I am so grateful for all her care!

This was my second birth, but first time using a Doula! We are so thankful we chose to go this route this time. Carolynn was amazing. She felt like a friend, very comforting and encouraging. Her calm demeanor, and coaching me through my contractions and pushing was so incredibly helpful. My birth was fast and intense. She was attentive, hands on, in tune to what I might need and guided my husband in how best to help. Being a believer, I was so thankful to share that common connection and get to have her pray with us and be overjoyed at the miracle of life God creates with us. We love her and already look forward to having her attend our next birth!!

Carolynn was such an incredible asset in the successful, happy birth of our son and we couldn't recommend her more highly. The birth took days, wasn't without complications and Carolynn was with us every step of the way. Literally, she arrived with an overnight bag and was available the entire time. She readily assisted when needed and stepped-back as others on the birth team participated more. Her calming presence and encouraging words were extremely helpful for everyone involved. She was also a needed resource in real-time as some very difficult decisions were made and for that we couldn't be more grateful. She has followed-up after arriving home, visited already and we truly consider her a friend.

We had the pleasure of having Carolynn as our doula for the second time. When we first found out we were pregnant again, we knew it was necessary to hire Carolynn again! Even though she was there for my previous pregnancy, she still made herself availble to meet prior to labor and made sure to keep in contact with me throughout my pregnancy. Throughout my labor, she was a steady, strong, and encouraging cheerleader for not only myself, but for my husband as well! Her presence helped me calm my fears and she was even able to coach my husband as well. She considered my choices and was thoughtful of my birth plan/needs. It was a joy to have her for this time around again! I would HIGHLY reccommend her as a doula!

My partner and I hired Carolynn to be our doula after being in the childbirthing class she taught. The passion Carolynn has for her clients and babies is absolutely beautiful. Carolynn helped immensely with my labor and I truly believe that my birth wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it did if we wouldn't have hired Carolynn. My sweet baby boy was sunny side up and Carolynn suggested trying different positions which ended up helping my baby turn the way he needed and resulted in a six hour labor and an eleven minute delivery. Without Carolynn I believe that I wouldn't have had such an amazing first birth and I am forever grateful that I had the best of the best by my side. Thank you Carolynn for being such help to both Kendall And I. We absolutely love Carolynn and recommend her to everyone!

I can not rave about Carolynn enough! This was my first baby and I was very fearful of the unknown (to me) of labor and delivery. Carolynn was there for me through every contraction, giving me the encouragement I needed to reassure myself I could do this. She is a goldmine of knowlegde in the beautiful process of birth. I am so grateful our paths crossed so that I was lucky enough to have her around for my sweet girls arrival. Thank you so much Carolynn for being so incredibly amazing at what you do! Until the next baby!

I am SO thankful to have had the recommendation for Carolynn as a doula from a friend. Because, prior to this whole experience, I was not very well-versed on Doulas or their capabilities. I had no idea how much having an advocate, friend and coach there for you during labor would make a difference! Now, having gone through it all, I would not have done it any other way. It was hands-down the best decision that I made.

I truly do believe that having Carolynn there during my labor, allowed me to follow my birth plan, which was a non-medicated birth. Therefore, despite several complications, stalled labor and a very large baby, this allowed me to have a vaginal delivery without epidural, and helped me to avoid a c-section or forceps. This was my first child as well. There were several times I wanted to give up, and Carolynn helped guide me and keep me strong. She was just the right amount of everything. My husband and my mom were there too, and they were actively involved. I needed all the support I could get.

If you are even remotely considering a doula, just realize that it is a small price to pay to help you have a more smooth labor process all around. I HIGHLY recommend Carolynn, and would do it all over the same way if I had to.

I absolutely loved having Carolynn as my doula. She was so incredibly helpful, supportive and kind and I would recommend her to anyone. I chose to have a doula for the birth of my second child to give me the extra support, encouragement and aid that I felt would help me to have a great birth experience. Carolynn did exactly that. She was available in the weeks leading up to the birth of my daughter and it was so helpful to be able to update her on my progression toward labor and to receive her kind and encouraging support as I struggled with the wait for baby to come. During my labor she not only helped me physically, but her calm, solid presence helped me to remain focused and strong. She helped my husband enormously too: giving him excellent instructions on how and when to best help me and giving him the support needed to be there fully for me. Carolynn worked so well with the midwives as well and I really felt like her presence at my birth completed the team of people I needed to be the strongest I could be. Immediately following the birth of my daughter, Carolynn helped her latch on for her first feeding and helped my husband and I as the midwives attended to my medical needs. And I loved having her visit me in the few days following the birth as it gave me such a welcome time to discuss my birth experience and really work to process how I felt about it all.

I really can't recommend Carolynn highly enough. She was an invaluable support for my daughter's birth and I know it would not have been the beautiful experience that it was without her.

I've been a professional doula for 8 years and knew that I would want a doula by my side when I birthed my 5th child at home. I chose Carolynn for her skill and experience supporting families at what would likely be a fast and highly emotional home birth. And I was not disapointed as Carolynn was the most perfect person to be at my side. I felt calmed as soon as she arrived and knelt by my side placing her hand on my back as I breathed through a contraction. She knew when to draw close and when to allow my husband to support me as I needed. Her sense of humor was key as the intensity of a fast birth brought about some physical coping methods for me; I smacked her thigh in a rhythm and eventually upgraded to punching at the peaks. She never batted an eye but remained present and allowed me the space to do whatever helped me get from one rush to another. (even if it bruised her lol) Carolynn's voice in my ear was everything as she guided me through a fast 2nd stage as I felt overwhelmed by pushing and had trouble focusing. After my daughter was born and in my arms she lent her skill and experience as a doula and a mother to many areas after the birth. I have 4 older children and she interacted with them, assisted the photographer with getting some photos I treasure deeply, walked my kids through a magical placenta tour, helped with clean up and returned to my side to continue supporting me with breastfeeding and anything else I needed. Carolynn was everything I expect a doula to be; calm, present, intuitive, professional, loving, and can take a punch. :)

We attended a weekend birthing class taught by Carolynn and were impressed.  She's just a goldmine of knowledge stemming from both her years of training/experience and her personal life.  We didn't really know what to expect from a doula but the concept sounded great, so we hired her as fast as we could.  For the months leading up to the birth she was basically our Google for baby stuff, I'm sure she fielded a good hundred questions lol.  Now when it came to go time, she was even more of a rockstar.  We had a pretty bizarre/stressfull labor/birthing process and I really don't know how we could have gotten through it without Carolynn's help.  In any situation that came up she just knew exactly what to do to make it easier on us, she was absolutely invaluable.  My wife & I wholeheartedly recommend Carolynn and we'll definitely be using her again if we have another in the future!

My friends highly recommended using a doula service. As my husband and I were preparing for the birth of our first baby we decided to inquire more about using a Doula. Carolynn was highly recommended to us and we set up a meeting to learn more. After initially talking to her we both could immediately see the value in having her at the birth. She was incredibly knowledgeable, had more previous experience then we could have imagined, and a calm personality that suited us perfectly.

When the day finally came, Carolynn could not have been better to have there. She made us feel at ease every step of the way. We were turned away from the hospital because my contractions slowed down. Carolynn was incredibly patient and helped me with progression exercises in the parking lot and garage of the hospital. Her encouragement and loving heart makes everything better and helps your mind move forward! A few hours later we called Carolynn back and headed back to the hospital only to stay this time. When I was admitted she was incredibly helpful and made us feel at home amist the hospital setting. Although the back labor was very unpleasant, Carolynn had so many tricks to ease the pain. She'd tag team with my husband but never once overstepping my husbands role. She made my husband feel like a part of the process the entire time and he absolutely loved that. She was so incredible to have along side us and I highly recommended using her as a doula. We would have absolutely no hesitation in using her for our second baby.

She's not only the very best doula, she's a loving friend, and someone that you'll want apart of your life(and births) forever!

My husband and I were very thankful for selecting Carolynn as our doula. She was available as a resource throughout my pregnancy. She even came to my PT appointment to collaborate on birthing positions. She was an awesome coach alongside my husband the day of delivery. Her calm, soothing voice helped me through the contractions. When I asked, "How much longer?!" She responded, "You will have a baby before bedtime." That was just the encouragement I needed to push on and she was right! I had a beautiful birth experience and will always remember her as an important piece of that experience. My husband was very appreciative of the added support as well. We look forward to having Carolynn as our doula again!

Carolynn is awesome. We hired her when I was seven months pregnant. We kept in touch through texts and email, talking about everything from prenatal checkups to helping me format my birth plan. I went into active labor at 2 am and she guided me through texts while I was at home. When we arrived at the birth center, she helped keep me calm (for the most part given the painful situation) with breathing techniques and giving me water between pushes. Immediately after our daughter was born she was put on my chest and Carolynn helped me with nursing. Then, she went out and bought me breakfast. She came to our house a week later to check on us. I highly recommend her!

Carolynn is AMAZING! I had hopes of having a natural delivery at the hospital and without Carolynn I could not have done it. She kept me calm, advised of things to do for pain management, helped me breathe correctly, and just encouraged me that I could do it. One thing I was worried about with having a doula is that my husband would not be as involved but I never felt like that with Carolynn. She was respectful of my husband and made sure that he was right by me and not crowded out. Carolynn comes prepared and makes sure to tend to your every need. I would recommend her a hundred times over and am so glad I chose to have her with me during my delivery.

Having Carolynn as a doula was one of the best decisions we made when planning for the birth of our son. She was a perfect constant in the 6 plus hours of back labor that I endured. She never left my side and allowed for my husband to take a couple breaks.
Carolynn is not only a good birth coach and support but advocator too. she helps with even the tiny details like helping cover me up after laboring in the tub and saying small prayers and verses for me when I wanted to give up, reminding me to keep my voice low so I didn't lose it or exhaust myself. My birth experience would not have been the same without her there. I'm so thankful for her wisdom and expertise and can’t wait to team up with her again for baby number 2!!

We are so thankful we chose Carolynn to be our doula for the birth of our fifth child.

Carolynn was a perfect fit for us. Though this was our fifth baby, it was our first out of hospital experience. Because of this we were not sure what to expect and therefore wanted someone with experience to support us through labor. Carolynn proved to be just that and more. Her kind and gentle approach let me relax and her timely advice and labor techniques really helped me stay as comfortable as possible while still allowing the labor to progress.

Looking back, I can see how beneficial Carolynn would have been in the hospital births as well. While nurses are willing to help when they can, Carolynn would have been available through the entire labor. This would have been extremely helpful and therefore, our only regret is that we didn't have her for the rest of our children's births.

Thank you Carolynn, for giving us such a wonderful birth experience!

We were so grateful to have Carolynn as our doula. She was available via text or phone outside of our prenatal visits. Carolynn had a clear and calm demeanor, with a presence that was soothing but not passive. Just what I wanted.

My labor and delivery was not what I had planned. My water broke, but contractions didn't begin. As Carolynn knew that I really wanted as natural a birth as possible, she had multiple suggestions for me to get my labor going. When nothing worked, she knew when to tell me to adjust, take a nap, and go to the hospital. When my back labor was long and difficult, she was encouraging, gave my partner breaks, and had excellent suggestions to help with pain management. I labored in numerous positions with her support, but also felt completely in MY zone. I was never doing anything that I didn't want to be, and she never felt intrusive.

After 17 hours of unmedicated labor and then 2 hours of labor after an epidural, a c-section was necessary. Though this was so far from what I had wanted for my birth experience, I felt strongly that we had tried Everything we could. I felt this so strongly in part because of Carolynn. She kept nursing staff from intruding while my partner and I meditated on our difficult decision, and we didn't have the knowledge base to try the positions and tactics that we continued with Carolynn's instruction until the very end. (This included me on all 4s, doing squats, and belly sifting all after an epidural.)

This was an intense, extraordinary, and beautiful life experience. I always felt that Carolynn kept it sacred, providing safety and level-headed calm with obvious deep care for her role and for children. I absolutely recommend her as a doula.

Carolynn was great. Very compassionate and helpful through the whole process. She met with us twice for long sessions before, and another meeting after the birth. She talked thoroughly through all our concerns, questions, and how we envisioned and hoped the birth would go.

She was also very attentive over phone before and after the birth to all my questions and issues, and checked in with me every couple of days via text as we got close to the birth. She had lots of very helpful advice, and I felt very supported through all our possible complications.

She had lots of helpful exercises to help the baby turn head down, and to make me feel more comfortable.

The birth was amazing. Carolynn helped me through contractions with positions, massage, and changes to the way I was breathing. It really made a difference.

She was encouraging for an all natural birth, but was also totally supportive and understanding when I wanted an epidural, and when I finally gave in and took antibiotics for mastitus after the birth.

I also really liked that she had such a good working relationship with all the rotating doctors at my office, and knew several of the nurses. She even requested a nurse for me who she knew was really good. She did all sorts of subtle things through labor to make me more comfortable, like chilling wash cloths and putting them on my forehead when I was overheating from the exertion, and making sure I had water, etc.

On a more general note, Carolynn just had a very comforting presence which helped me stay more relaxed. She is a pro and I would highly recommend her to others.

I would highly recommend using Carolynn as a doula for your pregnancy and labor/delivery. I'm naturally a ball of anxiety especially in high-intensity moments and Carolynn brought a steady and calm atmosphere to my birth experience. She helped me stay focus and reminded me of the birth plan when I doubted myself. She encouraged open and honest communication throughout my pregnancy and labor process. She took time to see me at my home and was genuinely interested in my wellbeing, my husbands, and of course my newborn son! I always felt like she was a phone call away and never felt rushed. I can honestly say I would have not been able to have such a positive birth without her! Thank you, Carolynn!

I am so thankful I had Carolynn's support as a doula for both my second and third babies. Each labor is completely different than the last, and as such, I needed support in different ways with each birth. Carolynn did an awesome job both times, supporting me in just the way I needed.

With my second pregnancy, I looked into hiring a doula. (If I would have known just how amazing Carolynn was, I would have hired her for my first birth, too!) From our first meeting, we "clicked" and I knew that she was the right doula for me. She was supportive and available during my pregnancy, always just a phone call away to answer any questions I had, or to just talk about anything I was concerned about. Once at the hospital in labor, it was apparent that she had a good reputation with the hospital and the nurses. During this labor, I just needed a "bull-dog at the door" so to speak so I could do my thing and labor in peace without worrying about being bugged. Carolynn is very intuitive and recognized my need for space. She was able to be there for me and support me without being pushy. She has a calm spirit about her and a way with people, which was incredibly helpful when i ran into an awkward nurse situation.

When I became pregnant with my third child, there was no question - I asked Carolynn to be my doula again. This time around, I needed her support in an entirely different way. My labor was quick and my contractions where very intense. She was armed with suggestions to help ease my discomfort and ended up doing hip squeezes for over an hour and a half with each contraction - even climbing up on the bed with me so I could continue having some relief. (I later learned she had a shoulder injury at the time!)

Through both my labors, Carolynn was irreplaceable. She did an outstanding job, supporting me perfectly each time. I would not hesitate to recommend her. She is a seasoned, knowledgeable, and compassionate doula who truly loves what she does.

We never thought we would hire a doula, but wow we are glad that we did! After taking Carolynn's Birth by Design class, we thought she would make an excellent doula and she definitely is. Before birth she was great about answering questions and staying in communication with us. We had a good idea what to expect when my wife went into labor. My wife had a birth plan we wanted to follow and thanks to Carolynn's help, we were able to follow it. It was so nice having someone with us in the hospital who knew exactly what was going on and when. It was also helpful to have someone that we could trust to tell us our options. After our baby was born, we had a ton of questions that Carolynn answered for us. She was always available! Whenever we called her, she'd either answer or call us back shortly. If we have another child, we are definitely going to hire her again!

My husband and I were unsure if we needed a doula to support us through the birth of our 1st child.  We had taken a birth class, had multiple books, and great local support.  However, reading testamonials on this site, hearing experience from friends, and with advice from my midwives, we decided that this would be a valuable investment.  We are so thankful we chose this route and Carolynn was perfect for us.

We hoped to have an all natural birth and wanted practical methods for dealing with pain, emotional support for me, and coaching for my husband.  We met with Carolynn 2 times prior to labor, and we immediately knew her extensive experience and outlook on birth would give us exactly the support we wanted.  She's very friendly, open and genuinely cares about making this experience wonderful for both of us. She easily answered the questions I had, brought some of her own to help me prepare, and shared some of her experiences to help us prepare for the different directions things can go.  It was clear she had been a part of many many births, which gave us confidence that she could support us with anything that may come.  She helped me draft my birth plan to best express our wishes.  She reviewed techniques for pain management and breathing and even practiced them with me.

Although we had prepared for a long labor, we were blessed with a very quick labor and delivery.  My preparation with Carolynn helped me make it through a quick intense labor and fast transition into active labor and keep relatively together.  Her support as I was pushing (for what seemed like forever!) was so helpful, she counted each push and gave me the courage to keep going, even beyond what i thought i could.  she also helped me to know when I was doing it correctly. She offered postpartum advice and checked in multiple times on baby and mom, and even wrote us a very dear birth story.  Thank you Carolynn!

My pregnancy was considered high risk and I developed pubis symphsis diastasis in the 3rd trimester. We knew we needed additional support given the amount of pain I was already in. So let me tell you about Carolynn in a few points, since there is a word limit:

1) She's professional. She knows her stuff and extremely knowledgeable. For me, that's very important to feel that the person I am relying on knows what they are doing.

2) She's compassionate. There were times in my labor that I thought I was going to die. I was sent home from the hospital because I wasn't dilated enough to be admitted. I was stunned because my contractions were 3 minutes apart and I was already in significant pain. It got worse when we came home and Carolynn was very comforting--even though it must have seemed that I could not be comforted at that time.

3) She's a patient encourager. I say patient, because I think I told her off a couple times when she was attempting to encourage me in the middle of a contraction. Keep in mind, I could not move much and immobility actually made the perception of pain much worse. She was also an encouragement to my husband.

4) She's non-judgemental. Some doulas are very anti-medication. In my situation, an epidural was the right choice once we were admitted to the hospital. Carolynn supported that decision 100%.

5) She has a sense of humor. Super important when under extreme stress. She is very level headed as well and calm.

6) She is godly. Carolynn prayed for our family several times and this was so appreciated.

7) She is friendly. She got along very well with everyone she came into contact with, whether it was members of our family or doctors. Between her and a nurse, they got my baby to flip and and we avoided a C section at the last minute.

You can't go wrong with having Carolynn as part of your team. I can't wait to invite her to our child's first birthday party!

This is the second time I've had the pleasure of having Carolynn as my birth doula!  We decided to do a HBAC (home birth after cesarean) this time around and I knew there was no way I would want to go through this experience without her by my side!  She is an amazing woman of God and hands down the best doula out there.  She is so kind and attentive and strong.  When you just need a hug, she is there to comfort you.  And when you need physical support during labor, she's on it.  She knows all the best techniques to help cope with the labor pain, and she is SO knowledgeable about birth in general.  She teaches a birth class and has had many children of her own, so she definitely knows her stuff.  She has been there for the birth of both my boys, and now I am so blessed to call her my friend.  You'll feel like you have known her your entire life from the first meeting.  It's so easy to get feel comfortable around her.  She's so real, and funny, and extremely kind.  She can also stand up for you and give you a voice if the time comes.  What an amazing person she is to have on your team!  My first birth was a hospital birth that turned into a C-section because he was breech, and the doctor didn't catch it until it was too late (literally almost pushing on the table).  And now having had the experience of a hospital birth/surgery and a home birth with her as my doula, I can say that she is awesome in any setting.  I love this woman dearly and so will you!!!  Having Carolynn as your doula will put you at ease during your birth because you will know that you have someone you can count on to help you in those moments when you feel that you either don't know what to do or when you feel like you just can't go on!  She's amazing, just amazing!!  Can't say enough positive things about her.  :)

Carolynn was the best decision I made for my birth. I wanted so badly to have a natural vbac and she helped me achieve it. Her calm pressence, extensive birth knowledge, constant reassurance and comfort techniques empowered me to birth naturally without fear. I want everyone to have the positive birth experience I had; I have no doubt that if you have Carolynn on your team you will.

My pregnancy, labor, and delivery would not have been the same without the comfort, assistance, and wisdom that Carolynn provided. Throughout my pregnancy Carolynn was available by phone, e-mail, and text to answer questions and offer words of encouragement. At 41 weeks, 2 days I checked into the hospital to be induced with prostaglandins. I was very nervous, and was concerned that being induced would make it impossible to have the natural childbirth I had hoped for. Carolynn met my husband and I at the hospital, and her sense of faith and calm spirit calmed my nerves. She returned immediately to the hospital the next morning when it was determined that I likely would not need Pitocin, and had my water broken. As contractions intensified, Carolynn was by my side massaging my back, imitating the type of breathing I should be using, and speaking words of encouragement. I felt comforted by her presence and years of experience. She was present in a selfless manner throughout the entire day, and with her help I got through every contraction feeling as if my body was doing what it needed to do, and I could get through the pain. I was able to deliver my first son naturally, and feel accomplishing this would have been incredibly more challenging without Carolynn's help. I would highly recommend Carolynn as a doula!

As a husband, I was initially hesitant to hire a doula. "What can they do to support that I can't?" After Carolynn arrived at 12:30 AM and walked with us through the next 15 hours of active labor, I now know that I will never want to be without a doula for any future births. And I'm not just giving an endorsement for doula's in general (which I am too, they are pretty rad, but you already know this) but for Carolynn in particular. I seriously don't know what we would have done in the wee hours of the morning, laboring for our first baby, if Carolynn hadn't been a part of our birth team.

She was encouraging, helping my wife to see the big picture in the midst of her discomforts. She was practically helpful, always grabbing water, gatoraid, or snacks—even holding a bucket when the nausea was at its height. She was calming, massaging my wife in the places she hurt, rubbing oils on her body, and giving the peaceful presence of an experienced woman who had attended hundreds of births. She was truly loving and a servant in every way, even giving us advice and counsel for months prior to the birth.

Carolynn epitomizes what it means to be a "slave" that is a doula. Except she goes far beyond that. Not only is she offering service to her clients, but experience, love, wisdom, prayers, and devotion. She is superb at what she does and an amazing choice of doula for those in Whatcom county.

My wife and I were expecting our first baby in June 2013 and had spent time taking classes and learning about the birthing process and the use of doulas and midwives.  Prior to the birth of our baby girl, we made the decision we would prefer to use the services of both a doula and midwife.  The doula we had chosen was Kathy Wilbur but as the birth of our daughter neared, Kathy informed us she may not be able to be present to help us due to one of her other clients having gone into early labor.  Kathy told us she would be replacing herself with a doula who she holds in high regard, Carolynn Slocum.  As it turned out, both Kathy and Carolynn were present and able to assist with the birthing process of our daughter.  It was an absolute pleasure meeting Carolynn and receiving her services.  Carolynn's experience, knowledge and personality represented a great doula match for us... and particularly for my wife.  There is no question that Carloynn positively impacted the whole birthing experience for us and we are very thankful to her for that.  As doula fans, we recommend the use of doulas and definitely recommend Carolynn!

I was pregnant with my first child in 2012 and after learning alot about the birthing process, I decided I wanted to try and deliver without any pain medications. I started looking for a doula, knowing that I would need someone by my side to support and encourage me, and my husband, through labor and delivery. After interviewing a couple of doulas, I finally met with Carolynn and knew right away she was the person I wanted with me and my husband when we went through the incredible process of birth. She was really easy to talk to and had a personallity and countenance that I was drawn to. She helped me develop a birth plan, coached me on breathing techniques, and was just so encouraging and helpful. I had decided to give birth at the hospital, and she gave me a lot of good tips and advice about how to make my experience there the best possible. Some of the information she gave me I know I would never have been able to read in a book or on a website. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience that was very comforting. When I went into labor, she was right there by my side, helping me to focus and remember to breath, doing whatever she could to help me cope with the pain. In the hospital, she was a fantastic advocate for me. When I started shivering badly due to all the adrenaline pumping through me, she didn't hesitate to curl up next to me in the hospital bed, keeping me warm, helping me to focus on breathing to calm the shivering and my nerves. I am so thankful that she was there to help me through the whole process. I can't say enough good things about Carolynn. If my husband and I have a second child, I won't hesitate to ask Carolynn to be my doula again.

Carolynn was truly a gift sent from God!  I wasn't sure if I really even needed a doula at first, but boy was I wrong.  I felt a little bit uncomfortable with the thought of having a "stranger" around through my birthing process, but immediately after I met her, all my worries flew right out the window.  She is so easy to talk to and makes you feel like you've known her forever the first time you talk with her.  I had a tough pregnancy, and when I went into labor, it was such a blessing to have her there with me every step of the way.  She is so kind and caring and positive.  She is also extremely knowlegable and knows many techniques to get you through the labor process (such as positions, pain coping techniques, breathing support, and the list goes on).  She encouraged me to attend her birth class with my husband, and I learned so much.  She consistently checked in with me before I went into labor and gave me tips and ideas on how to get ready for my birth.  During my birthing process, she was there 100% and beyond.  All I cared about was that Carolynn and my husband were by my side!  She very graciously stood up for me in the hospital so that I could try and have a pain-med free birth experience, and she helped my husband and I to not feel intimidated about making choices for ourselves.  And after the birth, she was EXTREMELY supportive as well.  She gave me so much support as I was going through some tough post-partum anxiety issues.  I cannot say enough about the value of this woman to the whole process of my birth.  After everything, I continue to say that I hope Carolynn is always a part of my life from here on out.  I have gained such a wonderful friend and I love her dearly.  What a blessing that God led me to her.  The BEST choice in doulas you could make--PERIOD!
