As a first-time mom, I honestly didn’t know what to expect going into pregnancy and birth, and having Kayla as my doula made such a difference. From the beginning, she helped me create a birth plan and, when complications came up during my pregnancy, she coached me through what questions to ask my medical team and how to advocate for myself. She always made sure my wishes remained at the center while also helping me understand and navigate the medical care I needed. My goal with my complications was to make it as full term as possible and I made it to 39 weeks and 6 days with my son, and I truly believe Kayla’s guidance and support helped me get there. When I unexpectedly needed to be induced, Kayla traveled to Virginia and got to me as soon as she could. She immediately connected with my medical team, got up to speed on what was happening, and provided hands-on, non-invasive support throughout labor. She was there not only for the emotional support, but also with practical, informative guidance that helped me stay calm, comfortable, and confident. Her support didn’t end when my son was born. During the postpartum period, Kayla consistently checked in on my recovery and breastfeeding journey. When my son needed to be bottle-fed during his first few days, she gave me helpful guidance on stimulating milk production and supporting his ability to latch. I’m so grateful to have had Kayla in my corner. She provided compassionate, evidence-based support while always respecting my choices and helping me feel informed and empowered throughout the entire experience. I would absolutely recommend her to any expecting parent looking for a doula who will genuinely listen, advocate, and be there for you every step of the way.
