I am a single woman, and I hired Jenne to assist with my first birth. I interviewed three doulas, and Jenne was the last of the group. I hired her at the end of that very first meeting because her personality and experience put me at ease. With my best friend and labor partner three hours away in Portland, Jenne gave me so much peace of mind in our prenatal meetings. She was as much a counselor as she was a labor coach. With her help, I was able to prepare my mind and body for my upcoming labor. As a first time mother, the prenatal meeting and information was almost as helpful and meaningful as the delivery itself because Jenne’s experience, knowledge, and kindness gave me confidence in such an important way.
When the time finally came, my water broke but I only had light contractions. At times I felt very pressured to speed along the process from the medical side. Jenne helped me make decisions by sharing neutral, scientific journal articles throughout the night, so I could make educated decisions for myself. When my labor finally started really moving, Jenne coached me through, held me in her arms, laughed with my best friend and me as we used humor to get through, and was there to take pictures and cry with us as we welcomed my daughter into the world. She also helped as I learned to nurse and continued to be an important asset at our postnatal meeting when nursing was a struggle.
I am so grateful to Jenne. I would encourage any family who is looking for a Doula to consider her. Once you meet her, I am confident that you will find her to be professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate.
We chose to hire Jenne because we felt very relaxed talking with her at our initial meeting. We liked that she
had many births under your belt but also that she had three children of her own. When I asked myself, "Do I want this person in my delivery room?" the answer was a definite 'yes.' We felt having Jenne as our doula was very valuable because
even though both my husband and I are confident that we know what is best in most situations, having someone who truly was a master of this particular subject area to help guide us really helped us put our focus on working together as a team. Our goal was to have a natural birth but given our particular situation that did not happen. Jenne helped us achieve confidence in each decision we made and acceptance of the birth that we did have. As I listen to friends who had birth plans go awry, I see that many of them are still very hung up on what went “wrong”. I look back on my birth as the day we got to meet our daughter and with no negative thoughts. Having Jenne there each step of the way to help us understand what was going on is huge part of the fact that I have 100% accepted a birth that was 100% different from what I had wanted it to be. During birth, having someone there that wasn’t medical staff, especially for the long haul that it was, made a huge difference. Jenne's postpartum support when we needed to ask questions, get opinions, and get referrals to other practitioners was huge for a first time mom. Also, my husband felt supported when he felt a little lost during labor and that was huge. When things went off plan, I didn’t feel like I was disappointing anyone (myself or the doula) because she was able to roll with the punches with us and re-evaluate the situation as needed. I never felt pressure to stick to my plan “just because”. I felt Jenne kept it real, and was supportive, informative. The support Jenne offered was the best thing we could have asked for.
When I was about 8 months pregnant I switched healthcare providers and prepared for a move across the state that would take place after the birth of my first child. I was also offering some help to my retired parents' for their upcoming out of state move. I interviewed doulas during this busy time.
When I spoke to Jenne I knew that she was going to be a good fit. Her confident, knowledgeable and kind demeanor immediately put me at ease. After deciding to work with Jenne, she met with my husband and I at one of my pre-natal visits. Afterward, we spoke about what I wanted from my birth experience. She was also available for support via phone calls, email and text message.
On the day I went into labor she was attending another birth. By the time I was actually ready to meet Jenne at the birth center, her other client had already given birth. Despite having already attended another birth, Jenne was fully present during my labor. She was incredibly supportive and a comfort during the birth of my child.
I would hire her again if my husband and I have more children. I would not hesitate to recommend her to friends and family.
I've known Jenne for a while, and I was really excited to have her be my doula. She is very communicative and took lots of time before my birth to get to know me, my general life philosophies, and my specific preferences and concerns for birth and parenting multiple children. I especially love how she connected with my older daughter (3 years old) and established a solid relationship with her before the chaos of my son's arrival. Jenne had lots of useful advice and suggestions before the baby was born, and her post-partum visits were valuable in making sure breastfeeding was going well, I was getting adequate care, my daughter was adjusting to having a baby brother, etc. It was great having her around for the birth itself - her presence was calming, and she encouraged me through my contractions and reminded me of my HypnoBabies cues. She kept me comfortable both while I was laboring in the birth tub and out on the bed. Bonus: Jenne took some priceless pictures right after the baby was born. Thank you so much!
After interviewing several Doulas, I was happy to finally find one we clicked with. From the beginning, Jenne listened to my needs and worked with us to ensure that I got the birth I was hoping for. Even though she had just attended another birth, Jenne made it to the hospital as soon as she could, with plenty of time to coach me through labor and the resulting decision making. When we were having challenges a few weeks after birth, she came over as a post-partum doula to give me a much needed break, and help me figure out some problems I was having trouble with. I have already recommended her to friends, and I will continue to do so!
If I had to pick three adjectives to describe Jenne, I would say calm, supportive and knowledgable. I feel like Jenne is very comfortable and confident in her knowledge and her role. She has a good energy and I felt like she listened to my husband and me about what was important to us. She made me feel comfortable and confident in the process. During labor and delivery, I remember her saying things to the medical staff that we had talked about and she remembered everything that I wanted. Jenne was there and supportive without being overbearing, for both Ryan and me. Jenne's initial postpartum visit really stands out. I was scared to be a new mom along with knowing we were going to have visitors back to back for the next few weeks. I had some unexpected medical challenges that weren't so fun and the healing process in general was just plain uncomfortable. It was so nice to have Jenne come over and help with nursing positions and breastfeeding support. When I look back, what I remember most is Jenne, me, my husband, and new baby sitting on our bed, Jenne helping with nighttime feeding positions, and just chatting with us. That was invaluable for me. Jenne really felt like a friend and not someone I "hired to to do a job."
We decided to hire Jenne because of her warmth and caring personality, it shines through! We felt very at ease talking with her from the moment we met her. We also knew that her experience as a mother of 3 was invaluable.
The return on our investment on a postpartum doula was double even triple, I could not have made it without Jenne’s help and support. I often tell people who are expecting, multiples especially, to get a postpartum doula because it will be the best thing you can do for yourself and your family.
I was worried about breastfeeding issues and postpartum depression because I was having twins. I just wanted some advice and tips with breastfeeding and I just wanted someone to look out for me and make sure I was eating, resting etc.. Jenne did all of those things and she also recommended some great books that helped me a lot even after her time with us was complete.
Her support and friendship were outstanding. I looked forward to her visits because I so enjoyed just having someone to talk to and who knew what I was going through. I also am very glad we had her do some overnight visits, I was able to get a 5-hour stretch one night when the babies were about 8 weeks old and I will never forget that!!
EVERYTHING Jenne did was valuable. She is so knowledgeable about breastfeeding and just being a mom. She was so great with our older son, he adored her. She also made me the best lunches!! All the food groups were represented!
She is a true gem!!
We sought out a doula with the intention of taking private birth classes. Having a child was a deeply sacred decision. It was important to us that we found a teacher who we connected well with. We wanted someone who was comfortable working with our family – not just tolerant of GLBT families, but supportive & informed.
I was surprised by how comfortable I felt with Jenne. It is a testament to her character, knowledge & skills that we went from being opposed to having a doula (why share such an intimate moment with someone we barely knew?) to being certain we didn't want to do it without her.
Jenne’s birth classes were what we needed to feel positive about labor & delivery throughout the experience. We appreciated being in our own environment – free to ask questions without an audience. The curriculum was comfortably informal yet well-structured & tailored to our needs. She was inclusive of our older child & helped all of us prepare for the expansion of our family.
When Jenne arrived at the hospital she acted quickly & professionally to get a briefing from the nurse & then started offering alternatives. Jenne had the knowledge & experience to bridge the gap between the nurses care & my wife's love & had spent enough time with us to know our personalities - to sense when I was getting irritated, needed support, or to be reassured that an epidural was not the end of the world.
Labor was beyond exhausting. Because I developed a fever, the NICU team took our baby shortly after delivery to screen for infection – my wife went with them. I can't imagine not having Jenne there for the after birth. Jenne is magic. She continues to be a wonderful resource. I am convinced that if everyone knew what a wonderful support it is to have a doula present at birth - no one would choose not to & if everyone knew how wonderful Jenne is in particular - everyone would want her.
It was such a pleasure to have Jenne attend the birth of my first child. I interviewed 7 doulas from doulamatch.com and from the moment I met Jenne, I knew she was the one. I spent most of the night I was in labor wondering if I was really in labor and only called Jenne at my husband’s urging to give her a “heads up” that I might need her services soon. After listening to my symptoms, Jenne consulted her mentor, and they decided to come over to my home. I am so grateful for her wisdom because she and her mentor, Shawnette Fox, were working from the moment they arrived until 8 hours later when my beautiful daughter was born! I also enjoyed the follow up visits where Jenne offered advice about breastfeeding and just stayed for a while to talk and make sure we were all OK. I highly recommend Jenne’s services and if we have another baby, would love to have her attend that birth as well.
