Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

I have participated in community-based volunteer work, providing group education and support to families with limited resources. This included teaching newborn care such as bathing, diapering, and basic infant care. I am a trained nursing technician since 2011, with 15 years of experience in the field. I worked for seven years in a hospital maternity setting, caring for newborns and supporting mothers during labor and postpartum recovery. I currently work as a postpartum doula, continuing to support families during the early stages after birth.

More recently, Rafaela reached out to let us know she became a doula and asked if we would feel ok sharing our experience. I didn’t even think twice.

About five years ago when our son was born, we went through a really hard time as a family. My wife had postpartum depression and I was honestly very scared I wouldn’t be able to handle everything on my own.

About a week after the baby was born, we realized we needed help, and that’s when we met Rafaela. At that time, she was already helping families with newborn care because of her nursing background, so she had a lot of experience even before becoming a doula.

She helped us during the day and also overnight, and gave support to my wife during a very sensitive time. What really stands out is how genuine she is. She cared for our baby with so much love and patience, you could really feel it.

Because of my wife’s situation, we used formula, and Rafaela helped us with that with no judgment, just support.

She really became part of our family. She was there through everything, even came to our son’s first birthday.

Even now, we still keep in touch and always recommend her to friends and families in our Bellevue community.

We are very thankful for everything she did for us.

Rafaela was my overnight postpartum doula right after I came home from the hospital with my baby. She stayed with us four nights a week for a few months, and honestly I don’t know how I would have managed that period without her.

She is very calm, caring, and really knows what she’s doing. Her background in nursing gave me so much peace of mind, especially as a new mom. I always felt my baby was safe with her.

What meant the most to me is that she didn’t only care about the baby, but also about me. She would check if I had eaten, remind me to rest, and make sure I was okay, which I really needed at that time.

There were also moments when I needed extra nights or longer shifts, and she was always willing to help and adjust, never making it feel like a problem.

She also helped us with sleep routines in a very gentle and realistic way, not overwhelming at all. Because of her, I was able to rest and start feeling like myself again.

I would definitely recommend Rafaela to any family looking for postpartum support.
