I came into this pregnancy already swinging, ready to fight. My first pregnancy ended in a bait-and-switch and fear mongering to coerce an induction that ended in a traumatizing cesarean section. My son was perfect but I felt quite the opposite. With my second pregnancy, Michelle gave me space to share what I had been through and what I felt was wrong about it without immediatelydismissing my concerns. Her willingness to listen and truly hear me made me feel safe and like I could be vulnerable. 

This second pregnancy also had complications to both me and the baby that were new to me. I desired an unmedicated VBAC as an option unless me or my child demonstrated a need to intervene. Michelle was an amazing advocate during the birth but because of her prep work with me and my husband during the prenatal visits, I felt empowered and could relax knowing I could trust her and that I was not alone. My daughter was born via an unmedicated VBAC at 9lb 2oz.  During the labor, Michelle ensured the medical team had my birth plan and cultivated relationships with them so they could work as a team. She also communicated with the birth team of what I wanted since I was imminently about to birth my daughter and could no longer speak up for myself effectively. She also used many of the comfort tactics such as moving me into positions and pressure during my contractions. The support and advocacy Michelle provided me, allowed my body to do what it needed to do with a sense of calm amongst the intensity that comes from labor and birth.

Now, instead of trauma and insecurity, I am filled with a sense of pride and warmth when I remember both of my births for not just what I was capable of but also what I overcame. Thank you Michelle for giving me this most magical gift. Thank you for caring. Thank you for being my voice when I could not speak.

Michelle was an incredible source of strength during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life. My labor didn’t go the way the birth plan we created and at times I felt overwhelmed and unheard by the doctors Michelle made sure I never felt invisible. She truly listened to me advocated for me, and helped me feel seen and understood when I needed it most. Even when things became difficult and unpredictable, she kept me grounded with her calm presence and reassurance. Having my doulas by my side made all the difference they supported me with so much compassion and care that it felt like having family in the room. I’m so grateful I got to work with them  and I would want them by my side for every birth because of the love, strength, and comfort they brought to my experience. ?? Truly even after my emergency C-section having doulas was one of the best choices I've made.
