Attends hospital births? All Hospitals
I attend births at all hospitals, but please be advised, I do not get involved with insurance plans. My families over the years, if they had coverage or used FSA/HSA account type scenarios, they would get an invoice from me after the birth, and then they would go through the steps to get reimbursed.

Attends birth center births? All Birth Centers

Attends home births? Some Home Births
I have experience with home births, however, I very rarely get calls from women looking for doula services for a home birth.

Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

My doula journey began back in 2002, while working for San Luis Ambulance, in San Luis Obispo, California. I started with a DONA approved workshop, up at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, California. I finished the workshop, yet not their certification. I moved back to San Diego in 2004 and became a volunteer for UCSD's Hearts and Hands Doula program. I also had the chance to work and shadow a home birth midwife for six months, that added to my training in the beginning days of my birth work. I hold a BA in Child and Family Development from SDSU, with an emphasis in infant and toddler development. I went on the receive my AA from Grossmont College, in Respiratory Therapy, where I went on to work in a busy NICU Hospital. I was the president of my class from 2005-2007. I did not stay in the hospital setting long, and started to build my doula business from the ground up. For over two decades, I have served 100's of families through their birth journeys. I am proud to have worked with families and babies for well over three decades now, with both combined healthcare and family work along my career.

Fee Details

My fee is based on over two decades of experience as a birth doula. I hold a degree in respiratory therapy with NICU experience, lactation education from UCSD and a BA in Child and Family Development from SDSU. I offer $200 off the fee if it is paid in advance, and the other option would be to pay half the total and then the remaining balance would be due by 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Val is understanding, insanely qualified and helped us every step of the way. My birth did not go as I had planned, and without Val things would have been far more difficult. She is responsive and we were in constant communication while I was in labor. I sent her photos of my mucus plug, reported contraction time, and got her feedback consistently as I labored at home. To top off her excellent care, she took some of the most precious photos after delivery of our new little family that we will cherish forever. Will absolutely be working with Val again should God bless us with another baby.

Val was amazing! After thoughtful consideration, my husband and I decided to work with Val to ensure I had a positive birth experience! Val was very open and supportive of all the things we wanted for my birth. Just like many things, giving birth can be unpredictable and may not go as you desire. With Val, she was there for us and encouraged us through all the ups and downs. I firmly believe that my birthing experience was positive because we had Val who was familiar with the options of giving birth in a hospital. I highly recommend Val! She will be there with you till the end, no matter how many hours of labor you go through!

Where do I even begin. Val gave me the most incredible birth experience, and I truly don’t think I could have done it without her.

You can immediately tell she has a strong background and a lot of experience. There’s a calm confidence about her that made me feel safe from the very beginning. It gave me so much peace of mind, especially as a first-time mom who was honestly SO nervous and scared to give birth.

She was patient, attentive, and unbelievably kind. In moments where I felt anxious or unsure, she grounded me. She empowered me in a way I didn’t know I needed. She made me feel strong and capable.

What I loved most is how she truly catered everything to me. She listened, she adjusted, she showed up exactly how I needed her to. And she did it all while feeling so personable and warm.

I cannot thank her enough for the role she played in bringing my baby into the world. I will absolutely want her by my side for any future births. ??
