Post a testimonial for Isabel Flanders

Isabel will always be an important part of our birth and newborn/infancy story, and I’m very grateful. We initially were only going to hire a postpartum doula, but after meeting Isabel we realized we wanted her at our birth as well, and I’m so glad for it. She helped us create a detailed, evidence-based birth plan, and when the time came she was present, engaged and helpful throughout a long hospital labor. She made sure we were informed and felt empowered to advocate for ourselves, kept sight of our birth plan, captured special photos and even remembered details of my labor and delivery after the fact that I had forgotten. She was also a lifeline during a very difficult postpartum for me, offering her newborn and infant care expertise and practical help around the house, making sure I ate and rested, connecting me to other care providers and resources through her professional network, and just generally supporting and encouraging us as overwhelmed first time parents. Isabel has a wonderfully calm and gentle energy which was just what both baby and I needed, and her presence in our home and with our family felt natural and comforting. We are so lucky to have her in our family’s life, and I can’t recommend her enough.

Isabel was our doula for approximately 3 months and was incredible! She was very attentive to my son's needs as well as my own. She assisted with not only newborn care but with household chores and my own care too. She offered very informative and helpful information on lactation concerns and supported me through my breastfeeding journey. She is extremely knowledgeable on lactation and newborn care and I found comfort in her education, knowledge, and continued support. She pays attention to all the important little details too, to make sure you felt comfortable in your own way of doing things, and was very open minded to adjust to your preferences. I felt very cared for and relieved every time she came to help. She offered not only help but emotional support as well. I wish I could keep her for longer but her availability ended and we had to part ways. I will definitely recommend her to anyone who needs her, and hopefully I can also use her services again in the future!

Dates of doula support: August 19, 2024 - March 2025 Services provided were virtual/in person: in-person Availability: Isabel is reliable, always on time, well-connected with birth and postpartum doula groups. She collaborates with her network whenever I have questions. She also found a backup doula for me. I didn’t feel the need to do an extensive interview with the back-up doula because I whole-heartedly trust Isabel! Isabel’s approach is that of genuine curiosity and interest in my needs, my professional work, and my Jewish faith. She worked extra hours so that I could go to Temple for the holiday with my husband and 2-year-old, while she took care of my 6-week-old baby. I was looking for someone who I could trust with my newborn so that I could rest and have one-on-one time with my 2-year-old son. Isabel has given me so much more than that -- she supports me with my baby’s feeds, she listens to me without judgement, she builds me up when I’ve felt vulnerable, she validated my concerns when my body didn’t feel right exercising early days postpartum. Isabel has been instrumental in my breastfeeding, pumping and bottle-feeding journey. Undoubtedly, I would have stopped breastfeeding and pumping already if it weren’t for her encouragement, support and recommendations. I am so happy to be breastfeeding pumping and supplementing at 5.5 months! Isabel is excellent at figuring out the root cause of my needs and offering solutions. She easily and calmly adapts to my ever-changing morning “routine.” Sometimes supporting me means helping get my 2-year-old ready for school in the morning while I breastfeed, and she switches gears without missing a beat. My 2-year-old loves her too!

FTM, I've been hearing about the benefits of having a doula while going through my fertility journey. Isabel was someone I was able to book with close to my due date. Once we did an initial intake on zoom discussing our goals and birth plan etc. I was sure Isabel to be a great match. She was open about her experience timeline and how she fully support any type of birth without judgement or bias. But offering ideas from her experiences. I liked not being pushed to one way or another. She was very thorough with me, I didn't feel rushed and we got through so much. I felt empowered and excited. I was having a rough labor at home and Isabel provided tips for me and my partner to manage the contractions (I was overwhelmed and tired but had moments of relief with her ideas). When I was admitted, we kept in contact on the phone (text and call). I appreciated that she took me as a client because we lived so far apart. Isabel came as I hit 8 cm at night and stayed up with me. She went to get the nurses and staff after discussing with me about switching positions since I had the epidural. She reminded me and kept me hydrated. She was completely attentive to my needs. My partner got to sleep and be rested for pushing time. I knew to look to Isabel to feel comforted while the whole event felt tough. The team kept asking about meds and all but Isabel discussed with me about my progress without needing additonal interventions and I felt confident again and again. Overall, I felt the labor and birth experience was as best as it had been because of Isabel. Postpartum, she checked in a lot and even made delicious week worth of soups and discussed with me about my experience. Validated how I felt about it. I guarantee that if you have Isabel on your team, you and your loved ones will be and feel supported. Also she captured all the photos and videos as the hospital allowed. I am forever grateful to have those memories.

I hired Isabel from doulamatch for my birth last October, and I couldn't imagine the experience without her! Isabel was friendly, professional and really respectful my preferences while supporting me before, during, and after birth.
After I first contacted Isabel, she came to my home to meet me and my husband. We had two meetings prior to labour where she was really organised with questionnaires and information covering things I hadn't considered. We also met her backup doula in case we needed to use a backup in a pinch. When in labour, Isabel came to the hospital and stayed with us for about 16 hours. Her massage, breathing techniques and support considering further intervention was invaluable. Around 6-8 weeks post partum, we had a debrief on the experience which I found really helpful as I could not remember a lot of labour. Her package included a 4-hour post partum session which was great.
Overall, I would recommend Isabel to any expecting family in the Southern California area. She was responsive and a great communicator. Isabel had recently begun working as a doula before my birth, however you could not tell! She was so knowledgeable and great with out baby from years of experience as a nanny.

Isabel is absolutely amazing at what she does. She's the perfect Doula for new moms, and basically a lifesaver. Isabel was excellent with our baby and helped my wife while she was recovering and I had to go to work right after our baby girl was born. She even goes beyond what her duties call for without being asked. She takes initiative and that is absolutely helpful. Her calm and soothing energy made it super easy for our 2 babies to feel safe and comfortable with her, and that is exactly what you want in a Doula. I wouldn't hesitate for one second hiring Isabel to take care of Mom and newborn when it's most needed. She's the perfect hire for your Doula job.
