I cannot say enough about how wonderful Erin was. My birth experience was spectacular and I could not have done it without her.  During labor and delivery she was so supportive that I never once considered asking for pain medication. She supported my husband and offered tons of encourement to us both. Following delivery I was very weak from losing a lot of blood and being unable to keep any food down. She fed me and took beautiful photographs of my baby and family. Erin also helped me establish breastfeeding almost instantly which was simply magical. I recommend Erin to anyone looking for a natural birthing experience!! I hope to work with her again if I am blessed with more babies in the future!!!

For the birth of our second child, which happened to be a vbac, my wife insisted on a doula. Honestly, I felt like I was humoring a whim, but went along with the idea because you don't fight against a pregnant woman.

I probably dragged my feet through most of the process. I shouldn't have, as the requirements were not onerous, and thinking about the delivery before labor was wise. The process consisted of answering a questionaire, the responses with our doula, and formulating a birth plan. Essentially, our plan was simply: "avoid a repeat c-section." The process also consisted of several scheduled home visits to discuss birth plan topics, and really just get to know each other. I was not able to attend most of these sessions, but the key players made-do without my presence.

When the big day arrived, it was not chaos, but emotions were high. I would like to say I was not only calm and collected (I was), but was also providing the emotional support my wife needed (I was not). When Erin arrived, the whole atmosphere of the delivery room changed. She simply changed or added a few elements: Low-key lighting, not flourescents, soft music from a CD, not random radio station, pressure points, soothing voice, and others. My wife visibly calmed, and interestingly, the tracings on her FHR monitor improved. Despite all of the above methods, we nearly ended up with a repeat c-section. I strongly feel that without Erin's interventions, not only with mood, but also with nursing staff and physicians who were gunning for surgery from the start, my wife would have been cut, again. Hiring a doula was the best decision we made for this delivery. If we have another child, our first call would be to Erin Barnes.

Erin was amazing. She provided excellent information and support in preparation for the birth of our son. During the birth, she helped kick start my progress by creating a more homey atmosphere in a hospital room. She fostered a relaxed attitude and guided me through pain management. I felt like I was in good and knowledgeable hands the entire time. At the beginning of our time together, she said she wanted to facilitate a situation that resulted in my husband being an integral part of the birth process. As fuzzy as the day is in my memory, I will never forget how Erin was able to provide direction enabling my husband to participate and support me throughout the birth. Having her in the room transformed the experience from a mundane hospital procedure to a life event. If we chose to have another child, I will definitely call on her again.

Our daughter’s birth was one of the most incredible, life-changing experiences of our lives. Erin’s warm, comforting presence helped to make this joyous event the positive experience that it was. Erin has a gift for relating to others. She calmly assisted us in any way we needed her. She provided information and took care of our physical and emotional needs so that we were able to remain focused on the birth process and support each other as a couple. Erin is passionate about assisting families through birth and intuitively assists where needed. We highly recommend her! We are so glad Erin was with us the day of our daughter’s birth, and she will always hold a special place in our lives.
