El was great help to us. We needed a doula who would provide moral support to me and my husband during labor and she did just that. She has a sweet calm presence which was invaluable to us. We relied on her to make the decision about when to head to the hospital as well as other decisions throughout labor, such as changing poses to speed up labor and even not forgetting to drink water! She is very easy to work with, very accomodating and just a nice person.
In one word: SUPBERB! In other words...El was my angel through out the last days of my pregnancy and not only there, within the first few days as well. I had a longgggggg horrible labour...pains started on Saturday and my baby came Wednesday. However, each step of the way I didn't even have to use 911 or call my hospital because El was in touch with me via: email, text and phone 24/7 and replied promptly...probably quicker than 911. LOL
At first I wanted a natural birth but after so many days, I changed my mind. El did her outmost best to try to stick to the plan; but it was my final say that had me two epidurals; even though she was very convincing that she could have helped me go through it naturally - but I'm stubborn anyways lol.
I felt badly after I had the epidurals because I believed a doula wouldn't have any work to do...BUT WHO SAID SO?! El became my masseuse in the labour room! She even had scented oils such as lavendar straight down to mint scents. The work didn't stop there. On pushing, El held my foot up for me and even was a great pushing coach along with the mid wives.
On arriving home I was engorged on the left breast. I went from a 36B to a 40DDD *tears* El then became my lactation consultant...we tried remedies from massaging my breast in hot water to pumping with heat packs. This procedure truly was a test of El's patience with my whining anda hungry baby crying, because I wanted to breast feed only.
E is for exceptional and that described El and her job. Thanks a million in helping Sydney Alastrìona my 8lb 13oz baby girl come to life.
El made my homebirth possible. I really couldn't have done it without her. My labor was long; over 100 hours and spanning five days. We hadn't hired her in advance of the birth, but our midwife referred her and we called her over after two and a half days of latent labor when I was feeling very discouraged and a complete failure at giving birth. Although I didn't know her well, her calm and knowledgable demeanor comforted me almost instantly and helped me feel secure. She assisted both me and my husband as much as possible for the entire duration of the remaining two and a half days, getting almost no sleep. She remained calm, supportive, and upbeat the whole time while knowing exactly where to apply pressure to my hips during contractions to alleviate pain. And I eventually persevered without being transferred to the hospital! It was beautiful. El's attitude and demeanor were exactly what I needed to keep going even when things felt really tough. I would absolutely hire her again.
El was a wonderful supporter before, during, and after my birth. She met with my husband and I ahead of time to talk about what to expect, and how to best offer support when the time came. The labor progressed unexpectedly quickly, and El's advice on when to go to the hospital was very important, as being there in person she could read that things were progressing in a way that my doctor couldn't over the phone. Her instincts were what got us there on time. From the moment she arrived at our apartment the night of the labor, I felt more comfortable. She was calm and supportive in exactly the ways we needed. I highly recommend her!
My choice to hire a doula was very last-minute. El was recommended to me through a friend who had also used her services, and we connected only 2 weeks before I delivered my baby girl at NYU hospital. I was so greatful that she was willing to take on a new client so late in the game, and having her support made all the difference for my husband and I. She came to our home when my labor was in the early stages, and helped me decide when it was time to go to the hospital (my goal was to do most of the laboring at home, but I was also nervous about accidently delivering in the cab or before we could make it out the door! El helped get us to the hospital at an apporpriate time: 9 cm dilation!). Once at the hospital, El remained present and reassuring. She got along well with the nurses and doctors, her friendly demeanor and confidence really made the whole hospital part so much better than what I was expecting. El told us that she plans to become a midwife, and I know she is going to do such a service to moms and babies (as she already does!). Thank you!! -Alina
El was the first one to arrive during my labor. I had a pretty quickly progressing labor, and after texting with her a few times, she hurried over right away.
When she got to our place, she just made sure to let the midwife know what was going on, and helped me through the labor by putting her warm hand on my back when contractions came, helping my husband with setting things up around the house. Later on after birth (the active labor and transition are hazy memories for me), she did an amazing job helping the midwives with my postpartum hemorrhaging, as well as cleaning up the whole place which was a bloody mess.
She came to check in on me the next day, and again in a few days when I was having a hard time with breastfeeding. She was well connected with the midwife and was very pleasant and helpful.
We had an amazing birthing experience, and having El as part of the team was a huge help! She was such a calming and caring presence, and she helped me remain confident and relaxed throughout the whole labor. Her knowledge was invaluable in preparing for the labor, and on the day of her encouraging words and gentle massaging was much needed to get through 16 hours of heavy contractions. After the birth, I had a really difficult time getting my son to breastfeed initially, but with El's patient support and knowledge we were able get a hang of it.
