Gila was such an amazing support during my pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. She was a calm and supportive voice who helped me to deliver my daughter so beautifully. Her extensive experience and true passion for what she does radiates in every encounter.
I received a prenatal massage from Gila as well as placenta encapsulation, and can't say enough wonderful things about her services.
I am beyond grateful for Gila's support, and highly recommend her as a doula, massage therapist, and placenta specialist. I have since moved out of state, but if at all possible, I do hope to have Gila attend any future births! THANK YOU!
Gila has been with my family for 2 births. The first birth was my first VBAC at Good Samaritan in Phoenix. She was worth every penny. She is strong and was able to keep me focused on the type of birth I wanted. Gila was able to keep my birth plan in focus and exress much more camly and nicely than I or my husband would have been able to. She took care of the nurses and the doctor for us. Gila knew (knows) how important a VBAC is to me and was able to support me and our family decisions. She provided us with good literature prior to the birth and she made herself available at all the times I needed. She came fully equipped with her kit and oils and all the tools to keep me going during labor. Because I had a VBAC I wold recommend Gila for a VAC doula.
I just can't put into the proper words the impact Gila had on me during my pregnancy, birth, and remaining to this day. There is something about her calming presence, knowledge of birth and connectedness to women that gave me the confidence in myself I needed. As soon as she came to the hospital to meet us for my labor, my husband and I immediately felt relaxed to have her there exuding peace and support that led to comfort even in our most nervous of times. She advocated for us in a passionate yet gentle way and I believe that all moms to be whether it is your first or tenth baby, should have a Gila. Her prenatal (and labor) massages are also wonderful and did as much for my soul as they did for my body. We love you Gila! Love, Hannah, Tony, and Ellie
Thank you, Gila, for everything that you did to help us. From recommending wonderful books, to luxurious massages, to yoga poses, to aromatherapy, to food/supplement suggestions, and to practical pregnancy and delivery advice. That was extremely helpful for a first time mom. You put our minds and hearts at ease during pregnancy.
We thank you so much for the incredible support you gave us during labor and delivery. It did not go how I expected. I planned for a birth at a birthing center and ended up in the hospital because I did not start labor on my own but your presence was key for keeping me as grounded as I could be. I appreciated your expertise, your soothing and reassuring manner, and your guidance with where to direct my attention and energies. It was a traumatic experience for me but I feel confident that you were a big reason why I was able to have a vaginal birth in the end.
Thank you for the placenta essence and the post-partum visit. Both of those services helped a lot and I think that I am still benefitting from the use of placenta essence now 7 months post-partum. My husband was able to tell when I ran out of the capsules and he saw an improvement in my mood when I began the liquid form, which I am still using daily.
For those of you seeking a doula, Gila is phenomenal. She is one of the best choices you can make for warm and individualized comprehensive care. We truly appreciate everything she did for us!!!
Gila is the most amazing person!! She was our doula for my second and third children. After a fairly traumatic first birth, I had a lot of fear around giving birth again. I was referred to Gila from an awesome yoga teacher; Evon Kolios. I am so grateful. Gila helped me work through my fears during my second pregnancy...Because I had worked through these fears, my labor and delivery were so much smoother and peaceful the second time. It was a wonderful experience. My third child's labor and delivery with Gila were also awesome. My husband said "oh, you know how to do this, you don't need a doula!" but I KNEW I needed her! Just having Gila's presence at a labor and delivery is so calming and reassuring. Thank you, Gila! I will keep referring everyone I can to you :-)
Good for you that you are considering Gila Shire as your doula! She was an incredible asset in welcoming our two children to this world. She helped to execute our birth plan (wanting to labor naturally). I did not choose hypnobirthing but it was similar since Gila put me in a sort of "trance." She was gently rocking my tummy and firmly massaging my back while I was on a birthing ball. I am soooo glad I labored without an epidural or c-section because I feel like I recovered from childbirth so much faster. I know this because when I had my second child, unfortunately I HAD to have a c-section because I had placenta previa. I would rather do natural child birth 10 times over, than ever have a c-section again. Much better to have one bad day of labor/pushing than 3 months of an itchy, painful, numb incision. (IF you have a choice!) Just keep that in mind when u r at the breaking point and feel like u can't go on... that's when it's almost over!! My birth plan was to attempt an all-natural, “gentle birth” with little or no medicinal or surgical intervention. I refused an epidural, per my birth plan, for several reasons (I wanted to be able to labor in different positions than lying on my back and I wanted to be able to walk, use the restroom, etc.) It was tiring but so worth it. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my wonderful doula, Gila Shire. She literally had me in a trance between contractions with her massaging techniques, emotional support, aromatherapy, etc. I highly reccommend Gila! She is truly an ANGEL!
Gila was my rock when I was in labor, no wait...she was my rock even in pregnancy! She has the ability to empower a mommy to be like no one I have ever met. She was very clear when we first met (me trying to defend my doctor) that this was MY Experience and that no rules set by the doctor should inhibit that. I'm so glad I listened...she was right. Together we created a birth plan, discussed what I wanted - with her very sincere advice, and I was able to have the best birth experience! Every recommendation she had was right on from meeting all of the midwives (they work on call, so you want to know the one who delivers), taking hynobirthing, seeing a naturopath chiropractor, getting massages and even what to eat to keep baby healthy were SPOT ON. Gila knows what she is doing, its like she looks into your soul and becomes your personal advocate. I trust her fully with any of my family and friends. I called her at 2am to go to the hospital and she was there until a few hours after I delievered so we could share in the beautiful moment together with my husband who also loves her just as much! I dont know how women birth without a doula, it feels so natural to have another woman there to advocate for you and coach you through your labor. I know how amazing Gila is because even now the midwives will say "ohhhh you had Gila there? You are so lucky, she is in high demand!" I feel so fortunate!
Let me just say first that I never heard of a doula before I started taking prenatal yoga classes with Gila Shire. She was so inviting and shared birth stories with all of us that I was intrigued about the services she would offer as a doula. She requested that we read and watch videos to learn more about the natural birth process. Let me tell you - I became a believer in my body and mind and having a doula at my birth experience. My husband and I hired Gila and we feel that was the best decision we made for our special day!
The day finally came - labor day - and Gila was so supportive through phone calls once we told her contractions started. She checked in with us if we hadn't called her every two hours. We finally progressed to the hospital where she met us and from that moment on she took control and helped answer questions from the medical staff. She really helped control the 'relaxing' mood in the room. Gila helped soothe my husband, the midwife, the nurse, and me! Whether it was with words, massage oils, massages, controlling the lighting... we didn't tell her to do anything...she was on top of everthing.
I would highly recommend Gila for your doula on your special day. We had an unbeliebable birthing experience with her and plan on having her for our future births as well. She was an important part of the equation that day! Gila is the best!
I didn't know for certain what to expect when we decided to have Gila assist us in bringing our son into the world. Needless to say, she far surpassed any expectations we might have had. From the moment I (mom) saw Gila at the hospital, I immediately felt calmer knowing I had her on my team. The way she took care of me from start to finish was like nothing I've ever experienced. She is not only incredibly compassionate, but also so very knowledgeable. She offered gentle reminders all throughout my labor that helped keep me calm and confident - all of this designed to support the body's natural ability to progress through labor. She helped me trust the process and trust in myself even though it was a very long labor. I can't imagine doing it without her, and we already know for a fact we'll work with her when we have our next child! My husband, who is a do-it-yourself kind of guy, was overwhelmingly grateful for Gila's support, too.
We met with Gila about 3 or 4 times before the birth. This accessibility was important to us as it was our first pregnancy. Gila was supportive and answered my questions on food and health. She also provided a cd on relaxation that helped me during my pregnancy. I went into labor a week early. We called Gila a few times but because I progressed so quickly we left the house and met Gila outside the hospital. Gila worked wonderfully with the midwife and nurses. She made sure our birth choices were posted and having good relations with the midwife/hospital all our requests were followed. We are happy we had a calm loving woman to guide us into this new chapter in our lives. If we have another child we would work with Gila again.
Gila is an amazing doula and friend. She has accompanied us on our birth journey twice now and I couldn't imagine it any other way. She is a calming, loving, strong support with a tremendous nursing background. I would (and have) recommend her to anyone interested in welcoming their baby through natural birth. Both of my birth experiences were amazing - one with the midwives at Phoenix Baptist and one with the doctor at Blossom birth center. Gila helped create a safe space which allowed me to focus entirely inward and trust in my own body. We love her dearly and are grateful for having her as part of our lives.
We used Gila's services for the births of both of our children. She was an invaluable part of our pregancy and birth experience, from the prenatal massages (for both mom and dad), the laboring, delivery and the continued support afterwards. Her being there, with oils, massage, support, kind words, breathing help and encouragement allowed my husband to relax, and for me to have a really wonderful birth experience twice. We are grateful for her and recommend her with the highest possible praise. Thank you Gila!
