When my wife approached me about using a doula to assist with the labor and delivery of our third child, I was skeptical of how helpful a doula could be beyond what I could do to assist my wife on my own. I am a pretty hands-on husband when it comes to supporting my wife in these situations, so I really didn’t think a doula would be all that much more helpful from the help I already had done and was willing to do for this third child as well.

I WAS WRONG! Emily at Magnolia Births served us in so many ways, but these are a few of the ways that she did.

1) Enhanced my ability to support my wife

Not only did Emily assist my wife during labor, but she also enabled me to help my wife in meaningful ways long after I ran out of my own ideas of how to help my wife during labor.

2) Gave us insight into choosing providers, facilities, birth prep, etc

Since my wife and I are not from Lubbock, Emily’s experience of having witnessed numerous births in the area gave us all of the necessary information we needed in order to find the right people and the right location for our specific circumstances surrounding the birth of our third child.

3) Another knowledgeable person in your corner during a stressful situation

I was surprised by Emily’s knowledge. I knew she had prepared herself with many classes in order to serve her clients well, but Emily always had helpful information and a plan B, C, D, etc ready in case the Plan A didn’t go as planned. She is more than prepared for any situation with her knowledge and experience.

I really agreed to using a doula because I knew my wife would feel more comfortable in attempting a VBA2C with a doula, but now I can say after the delivery of my third child and successful VBA2C that I will be the first one to call Emily should we need her services again!

I had the BEST experience with Emily and cannot recommend her enough! She truly was a vital person in helping me achieve a successful vba2c and I know I could not have done it without her. Emily has a very kind and sweet personality, will be honest with you, has an extensive depth of knowledge of pregnancy and birth, has experience and insight about working with and in the local birthing community, and provides the physical and emotional support one needs throughout birth. She truly is a gem! I will always treasure my journey with her, and should we be blessed with another baby she is hands down who I will pick to go through it all over again! I think everyone needs her on their team!!!

Emily at Magnolia Birth is INCREDIBLE. This was my second birth, I did not have a doula the first birth and I’m so glad I had Emily at my side. She is so gentle and kind, we felt so comfortable with her. She’s very knowledgeable and advocated for me when I needed her. If you’re considering a doula I’d definitely recommend Magnolia for your birth!!

My wife loved having Emily as her doula. I was also really impressed with Emily and how well she handled my wife's entire pregnancy and labor/delivery.

she always included me and made sure I knew my role as husband and dad during the whole process and journey.

Where do I even begin?! I met Emily while she was doing a teaching on why having a doula is important and I ran up to her afterwards and hoped and prayed she would be available and that we would be a good fit for our birth. 

She was! 

this has been the best experience. From learning why a doula is improtant to having her answer all my questions, coaching me before labor, being there literally the entire labor/delivery, and then my postpartum checkups. Emily is thoughtful, caring, very wise, always checks in to see how we're doing. 

Another great aspect of this was how well she included my husband in every meeting and also during labor and delivery. He felt like he had a purpose and was involved every step of the way! 

I highly recommend Emily for any type of birth you are going to have! She was wonderful and she really advocated for me and made sure I had everything I needed!

Emily, is a beautiful soul, and is as sweet as she looks. I can't thank her enough. She will always have a special place in our hearts. She supported and empowered me throughout my pregnancy. She provided the tools and education I needed to get through a natural birth. I never thought it would be possible for me. However, she showed me that I can do hard things, supported me in trusting my body, and made my laboring experience a incredible memory. 

 It's important for me to add that as people of color we can experience racism in the medical field. I wanted to find someone who could advocate for me in my most valuable moment. Emily provided that for us and more. I appreciate that she was pleasant but firm with the staff when she needed to be. They appreciated her just as much as we did. She is a true mama's bear for ALL of her clients.

Being an alone and scared first time mom without any family within 1,000 miles of me, I was encouraged by my sister to hire a doula. During my consultation with Emily, she asked what l was looking for in a doula. I told her I wanted someone who would feel like my sister to support me and educate me through my pregnancy— and that’s just what Emily did for me. Because of Emily, I never felt alone during my entire pregnancy. Emily provided me with a wealth of knowledge surrounding pregnancy and labor/delivery and was always available to answer ANY question no matter how silly they may have been coming from a first time mom. Having this constant support gave me so much peace and confidence. Emily was my biggest cheerleader during labor, advocating for me and providing me with comfort and reassurance. I’ll never have a baby without my doula by my side!

My small town had no local doulas. Emily was the only doula out of four that I contacted that was willing to drive 100 miles to my hometown. I felt like I was just having to "settle" for Emily or have no doula at all. But that is so so far from the truth! She was amazing throughout our entire pregnancy journey. She is a wealth of knowledge and my pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum experience have been so enhanced with her by my side. This was my first pregnancy, and I plan on hiring her for my next pregnancy too. I know she'll be so valuable to have at my side again. Thank you, Emily!

We had a wonderful experience with Emily! She is very knowledgeable on so many birthing and labor subjects and helped us tremendously through our journey. I wanted a more natural experience compared to my previous birth and she helped us achieve that. She helped with natural pain management, helpful laboring positions, and just birthing prep all around. We wouldn't have been able to have the experience we did without her. What a blessing it was to have a doula with such a calming and helpful presence during such a precious time in life.

Emily’s knowledge and care is so comforting during a time of so many unknowns!! She’s also the kindest human ever, and just makes you feel so comfortable. Most of all, she does whatever she can to support and advocate for you and your baby!
