I wasn’t sure if I really wanted/needed a doula, but when I met Stephanie for coffee, I knew I’d feel comfortable having her at my birth within a few minutes of getting to know her. She is patient, kind, understanding and gentle - all things that I needed through my pregnancy and birth. She leaves plenty of space for your wishes without any hint of judgement and knows how to advocate for them in the hospital setting. She has plenty of knowledge to share, but in a humble way (doesn’t give unsolicited opinions or come off as a know-it-all, which seems rare!) During my labour and delivery, Stephanie seemed to intuitively know what I needed at every turn. She took my wishes to heart and created a calm environment both at home and in the hospital. I credit a lot of how I handled labouring at home to her tips - in particular, her breath work prompts were my saving grace through contractions. Thanks to Stephanie, I can describe moments of my birth as being peaceful and happy, two words I truly never imagined would be in my vocabulary when remembering my birth experience! And I certainly will not forget that.
