Kristin is a wonderful person and an incredible doula. She was so helpful throughout my pregnancy; always willing to answer questions and frequently checking in to see how me and baby were doing. When the big day came I was so thankful to have her by my side. She advocated for me every step of the way and was knowledgeable and willing to explain each part of the process to me and my husband. I will definitely have her there again if my husband and I ever decide to add another bundle of joy to our family.
This was my second time using Kristin as my Doula and I couldn't have done it without her. After my first traumatic C Section birth, I knew I wanted to achieve an all natural VBAC so I turned to the internet to do some research. One of the first "tips" I kept seeing for VBACs was hiring a Doula to avoid unncessary interventions and to keep your birth plan on track. I immediately interviewed 5-6 doulas and one of them was Kristin. She was so caring, determined, passionate, and knowledgeable that I immediated knew she was something special and someone I wanted to be by my side during these magical moments of bringing a tiny human earth side. Kristin provided excellence sources for me to reference if I had an questions during pregnancy, towards the end, and post partum. Her response times and attention to what her clients needs are were incredible! I ended up having Kristing present during labor at home and at the hospital with BOTH of my successful, natural VBACS. I would highly recommend Kristin for her services as well as companionship. Her bedside manors were so professional and knowledgable. I am forever grateful for her services and now her friendship.
Kristin was great during every phase of our experience having our son. She helped us prepare without being overbearing or stressing us out. She was a calm and helpful presence during my long and difficult labor. My husband was able to be my primary support person and Kristin helped him do that by offering suggestions, giving him breaks and helping us navigate our choices. And she kept tabs on us after the birth, helping to connect us with lactation consultants and other helpful people and providing support by visiting, emailing and texting. I highly recommend Kristin as a doula!
Kristin was a huge part of our birth experience. Her presence was so calm and allowed for my husband and me to have the birth experience we were wanting. Kristin was so helpful in the delivery room in helping to care for me allowing my husband the ability to stay by my side. I am so thankful for her. We will be using Kristin again for our next baby, whenever that may be!
Kristin was such a calming & supportive presence throughout my pregnancy, labor & delivery. Her years of experience & vast knowledge were evident throughout the entire experience. She grew to feel like more of a family member & we were so grateful to have her take part in our story!
10 out of 10 - would use service again
Kristin is an amazing Doula. I carried a baby for a friend of mine and I do not think the experience would not have been as successful if it were not for Kristin. She was a wonderful help to my husband and gave him some much needed breaks. She did an amazing job managing all of the people who helped during the birth and she has a wonderful way of communicating with the medical staff. I would definitely use her doula services again and recommend her to my friends.
After having Kristin as my Doula at two of my births (11/30/12 and 7/19/15), I can't imagine NOT having her there if we are blessed with any future children. Her role was pivotal during my birthing process both times. She helped me maintain control of the birth I wanted, especially in the hospital setting where the staff wanted to take control in their own way. Kristin kept things focused on what I wanted and needed by protecting my space and creating security by helping me focus on the experience of birth. One of my favorite parts about her Doula services was her care and concern for my husband during the birth process. It allowed me to really focus within myself and bring my babies Earthside. One of the other things Kristin did during my pregnancy was to officiate a Blessingway Ceremony. It was such a supportive and loving event! I would (and do) recommend Kristin to anyone as a Doula, no matter the type of birth you are hoping for. Her calm and nurturing demeanor is such a blessing during pregnancy, during the birth process and post-partum.
Kristin served as our doula in November of 2015 for the birth of our first child. I can't say enough good things about her presence in our birth story! We enjoyed getting to know her at a few meetings before our due date to talk through our hopes and fears. She has a wealth of information regarding all things related to pregnancy, labor, newborns, breastfeeding, and local resources that we found extremely helpful.
Kristin exercised the perfect amount of care when she would check in with me around (and well after) the due date. She gave advice on how to encourage labor to start, and kept me calm as I approached 2 weeks past due and feared induction. When labor finally did start, she kept in touch with my husband as we labored awhile at home and joined us at our request once we felt ready.
Her experience really showed during labor. She stayed active with my husband and I as we labored through the evening, overnight, and into the next evening. If anyone is worried that a doula minimizes the role of the husband or partner, nothing could be further from the truth. I'm convinced Kristin only helped my husband enjoy the experience and was a true guide for both of us.
Unfortunately we ended up needinc a c-section, which was a huge fear of mine. Not many people discuss a doula's role in the operating room, but thats where she became my true hero. The days after my son's birth, I was getting so upset thinking that I was so out of it and scared that I didn't remember the moments my son came into the world. It took my husband showing me all of the photos Kristin captured to bring those memories flooding back. I owe so much to her for those special memories that I'll treasure forever.
I would highly recommend Kristin to anyone looking for a positive and empowering experience. She is truly dedicated to those she serves!
I used Kristin for placenta encapsulation and could not be happier! A coworker recommended her services and she also had a great experience. This was my first child and I had a very easy pregnancy. I was on cloud 9 my entire pregnancy, no hormonal issues, which led me to fear a drastic drop after giving birth. I chose to encapsulate my placenta to help with any potential post partum emotional effects as well as lactation. I am glad that I did! I havent had any supply issues and my emotions have been stable, no depression or mood swings, and I am more than 12 weeks out now. Since this was my first child, I do not have anything else to compare my experience to, but I do think the placenta pills helped me keep an even keel and breastfeed with ease. I plan to use Kristin again for my next child!
I chose Kristin for my placenta encapsulation based on a referral from a friend. Kristin was very professional, always had a quick response time to my texts and emails and provided a lot of information about the process/what I could expect. She came to the hospital after my son was delivered on a Friday night for pickup and was back the next afternoon with the capsules. Really appreciated her flexibily on a weekend! :)
Great experience, highly recommend!
We are so grateful for the help and support Kristin provided before, during, and after the birth of our daughter in May 2015. When my first child was born, even though my husband was a huge support, I felt fairly alone and isolated during labor and for various reasons received medical intervention even though I was hoping to do a natural birth. I really wanted a different experience this time around.
Kristin helped provide exactly what I was hoping for - knowledge, experience, encouragement, physical and emotional support. She responded to texts quickly, even in the middle of the night when labor began. Kristin was encouraging and provided information and options when my labor really slowed down during the day. She came to my home in the evening while I labored and gave hands on support, which really helped both me and my husband, giving him a break.
Kristin followed us to the hospital and was a calm, strong support and advocate for my husband and I and the birth experience we were hoping for. She provided information to the receptionist and nurses when I was attending to my contractions and couldn't speak, put pressure on my lower back for nearly every contraction when I was out of the tub which allowed my husband to be more of my emotional support. She reminded me to breathe when needed and offered calming words of encouragement when I didn't think I could do it anymore. Kristin saw to tiny details that I couldn't think of or wasn't able to ask for like getting me a wet washcloth, ice chips, and having me take sips of water in between contractions. She worked with our midwife to help me achieve the natural birth experience I had hoped for and dreamed about. We are ever so grateful for her presence, experience, and support!
I chose Kristin to be my doula for the birth of my first child after reading her profile online and meeting her for coffee. She was very supportive and present from the time I chose her as my doula and all through the last weeks of pregnancy (I was 2.5 weeks overdue and she was so gracious and encouraging during those rough weeks!). I loved how she checked in on me in those last weeks and in the weeks after I gave birth in a way that was caring and encouraging, but not too intrusive. I knew that she really cared.
I planned to have a home birth, but I had to transfer into the hospital due to my baby's heart rate dropping. Kristin was very calm the whole time and was crucial in supporting me throughout the birth. I really believe that a great support team during birth is one of the most important things to have in place because I don't know how I would have made it without the people around me, including Kristin.
Kristin assisted with my in-hospital unmedicated waterbirth for the birth of my second child this spring, and it was a great experience all around. We met at a doula speed-dating event, and I knew I wanted to work with someone with her experience and personality. While I was hoping for an unmedicated delivery, Kristin struck me as a doula who would be equally supportive if I changed my mind while in labor. This was important to me, as I needed an epidural despite my original plans with my first child. She came to my house twice for prenatal visits, and we were able to get to know each other and discuss my husband and my thoughts and concerns about the upcoming birth. When early labor started, I let her know, and she offered to come to my home again to assist if I felt it would be helpful. I wasn't experiencing any significant discomfort, and we wound up not needing her assistance until it was time to leave for the hospital. Kristin met us there, and helped keep both of us calm while I labored in the tub. I work in health care and am very familiar with the birth process, but my husband especially appreciated having a professional support person there to reassure him that everything was progressing in a typical fashion. I had an easy labor and water birth, and Kristin stayed a bit after he was born to assess and assist with breastfeeding as needed. She then left us to get to know our new son. She followed up with a two week postpartum visit, again in my home. I highly recommend Kristin to anyone looking for an experienced professional doula in the Fort Wayne area, and would use her again if we choose to have a third child.
Kristin was our first doula experience. Second pregnancy. She was great at communicating via email and sending along helpful information late in pregnancy. She did a thorough job of talking through birth plans and preferences and giving advice in a helpful way without being pushy. Unforunately, the way my labor happened, she wasn't able to be present for the majority of laboring, just the pushing and post-birth. But this was circumstancial of things moving very quickly. As soon as Kristin arrived at the birth she was a calming presence. She clearly knew what she was doing and what would be helpful. She took excellent birth photos that we are so thankful to have. She was helpful with whatever we needed after birth as well. For several weeks postpartum she would check in on how we were doing and offered good tips or resources.
We chose Kristin because she had a lot of natural hospital birth experience and just her overall experience. She was a great doula and we would absolutely recommend her.
From the day that I found out I was expecting, I had my birth plan in mind. I knew that I wanted to do things all naturally and with as little intervention as possible. As my pregnancy and research progressed, I realized a major tool in this birth that I so desired, I was lacking. A doula, a strange word that I had never heard before became something that I knew I needed to have. That is when my further searching led me to Kristin, as well as many others. From the first time that I met Kristin, I knew that she was going to be my doula. I knew that she was the one to take on this jouney with me. On a hot day in July at Starbucks I made it official. She was terrific with the fact that I lived so far from Fort Wayne, with the fact that my husband was pretty scared about my birth plan, and with how terrible my doctor was. When the time came I was induced and my entire birth plan was shot all to hell. After a failed 5 day long induction that ended in cesarean, the only great thing that I remember from those 5 days was that she was there for me the entire time. Kristin slept by my bed and made sure that the nurses were doing their jobs. She was my advocate when I was so mad that I couldnt talk & my biggest support in those days. I don't think that my huband would have survived those days as well as he did without her help. She enabled him to take some time to himself and drive home and get things ready for baby. Because my labor ended in cesarean, I didnt need a birth coach, instead I got an advocate in the OR who took pictures that are irreplacable of my daugther being born. She captured pictures of my husbands face the first time he saw her. Kristin made sure that the nurses also remembered to make sure I got to meet her before they took my daughter to the NICU. Postpartum wise, she was the biggest blessing, always available to answer any breastfeeding questions and make sure that both baby and I were doing good. I would recommend her to anyone.
After two very traumatic birth experiences, I knew that we needed extra support and guidance for our VBAC IN 2013. Choosing someone to attend your birth is a big deal, and it was important to me that we find someone that could help to make the hospital experience more personal, less frightening/ intimidating, while also being someone that I knew that my husband would be comfortable with. I also felt liked having clear, reliable communication with someone was important, especially closer to my due date. Kristin fulfilled all of these needs and provided excellent guidance before, during, and long after the birth of our child. She was an advocate for our needs, a voice for us, and she helped to create a respectful atmosphere in what can be a very cold and distant place.
When I first met Kristin she came across as a confident and strong woman.Having four children of her own and yet appearing calm and confident versus frazzled or overwhelmed is what first put me at ease.Secondly I found her to be extremely flexible in terms of giving me exactly what I needed in terms of cost and service. My only goal was to succeed at a VBAC somehow and not be bombarded with any extra services such as post-partum care.Having had two children prior to this last one via C-Section, I was confident about my ability to cope emotionally but felt completely lost and clueless about trying for a vaginal delivery.Kristin was proactive in trying to understand my expectations of her and proved to meet and exceed them 100%. The treats she offered felt very nourishing at such an exhausting time. She rubbed my achy back as many times I asked her to and I probably asked her to do it five hundred times! She even helped with birth positions which I would be clueless about without her. In addition, she was very helpful and went out of the way as needed. I told her that my husband would be at home with my two young children so she picked me up from my house which saved us from extra stress. Not only was she wonderful at the time of labor but was great before and after the birth experience as she was very cooperative and reassuring over the phone and willing to come whenever I needed her without making any excuses at all. She even wrote me a detailed birth story which would have completely vanished out of memory had I been alone. After my experience with Kristin, I am confident that any woman can succeed at a VBAC and that the support of a responsive doula can not be understated. I owe it to her entirely for my success at a VBAC after 2 C-Sections-Thank you Kristin!
I had decided to hire a doula when I was 30 weeks. I called Kristin and set up a meeting with her. After our very first meeting I knew she was perfect for us, we hired her that same day! She has such a kind and calming nature. I felt at ease with her from the moment I met her. Being a first time mom I was very unsure what to expect but she was very reassuring throughout the last ten weeks of my pregnancy. I happened to go into labor naturally a week early. We called her in the middle of the night and she answered right away. I tried to labor at home but within about an hour my contractions were about four minutes apart. My husband called her back and told her we were headed to the hospital and she met us there right on time. My labor happened to be very long, she was very reassuring throughout it. She was willing to do anything for my husband and I. She got him drinks, got me a blanket when I needed it, if I was hot she got me a cold rag. She even used essential oils (peppermint) for my nausea. I ended up pushing for an hour and a half, she held my leg for me the whole time! She also took pictures for us and once it was all said and done she ordered us dinner! The next day she came back to check on us and to bring me my placenta pills from the encapsulation. She also kept a journal of my labor with all the details and made it into a booklet for us. I absolutely loved that because I had forgotten a lot of what was said while I was in "labor land." Once home she came to our house for a post partum check, she even brought a gift for our babe! I could not have asked for a better doula. She made my labor experience wonderful and we will definitely be hiring her for our future babies!
I truly can't say enough good things about Kristin. She brought such a calming and understanding presence with her every time we met. She is very accommodating to what you want out of your labor experience and doesn't impose a certain way of doing things. She also has a world of knowledge about any direction you want to go. She encouraged me so much prior to delivery as I was feeling emotionally and physically drained and answered so many of the 'annoying' questions you want to ask your doctor but sometimes feel to embarrassed to ask. She has solid relationships with many doctors, midwives and even nurses because she is EXPERIENCED. Having someone who was a steady rock was what I needed and she provided that because she has been in a wide variety of situations. During labor she gently coached and encouraged me through all of my contractions and massaged my back through many of them which was a life saver for me and freed my husband to help me in other ways that I needed. Also I tend to be shy in hospital situations and she advocated for me several times during labor to make sure I got the things that I wanted From the staff at the hospital. She took pictures that I wanted, journaled my experience so I can look back and remember special moments, and provided support many times after the birth. if you need a doula look no further, I promise you will not be disappointed!
I’ll be honest and say I was hesitant when I first met with Kristin – I had a clear image of what I needed and wanted (a hospital delivery with as few interventions as possible), but was unsure if I could convey this to anyone else, let alone whether or not anyone else could help me achieve it. But Kristin seemed to understand my goals instantly. She sought out ways to help me achieve my ideal experience without ever once pushing her beliefs on me. Did she present suggestions, alternatives, things to consider and other ideas? Yes. But they were offered with the end goal of making my labor and delivery as close to what I wanted as possible and I always felt that if I said no to a suggestion, she would remain as supportive as ever.
Once I was in labor, Kristin’s help was immeasurable. She walked with me for what seemed like forever. She rubbed my feet when I had to be on IV antibiotics or on the monitor. She did something to my back that made the pressure more tolerable. She encouraged me, suggested positions to try, made sure I had water and food, took pictures, and kept me laughing. But I wasn’t the only one she supported – she was there for my husband as well. For the first time, he didn’t have to try and remember how to apply counterpressure to my back or when to suggest sitting on the birthing ball. He didn’t have to worry he was leaving me alone if he needed to get a coffee or make a phone call. All he had to do – all I wanted him to do – was hold my hand and encourage me. Thanks to Kristin’s help, that is exactly what he did. And, thanks in large part to Kristin, I was able to have the unmedicated delivery I’d hoped for.
I am forever grateful that we chose Kristin Rahn to share in the arrival of our son, Joseph, and highly recommend her to other women and families seeking the support, companionship and services of a doula.
My husband and I met with Kristin soon after we found out that we were pregnant. We were first time parents and were feeling a mixutre of emotions. We knew we wanted to have a natural birthing experience and wanted to have someone on our side that would help us throughout the birthing experience (pregnancy, during labor, and post partum). Kristin was always there when we needed her and it was a huge peice of mind having her as our doula with her experience and knowledge. She referred us to a OB/gyn that aligned with our beliefs on how we wanted to experience our pregnancy and the birth of our child. Unfornately, sometimes doctors aren't always the easiest to get ahold of when you have important questions and concerns during your pregnancy and this is where having Kristin as our doula was a blessing. She was readily available for these concerns and offered advice and answers. When I went into labor she offered helpful tips. My labor was a little longer than we anticipated (roughly 41 hours) and Kristin was there the entire time. She was a real trooper! She offered us even more knowledge and showed my husband pain reducing "massaging" techniques that really helped. After I gave birth, she offered guidance on breastfeeding and stayed at the hospital until we were comfortable. Shortly after we came home from the hospital( a week or two), she brought us home-made soup and checked in on us to make for sure everything was going good! We loved having her apart of our birthing experience and we would hire her again in a heartbeat!
Kristin was there for me during all the twists and turns of my last several weeks of pregnancy and after with breastfeeding support. She had all kinds of noninvasive suggestions to try to get my breech daughter to turn, and she held my hand as we even tried a manual version at the hospital. What's best is she didn't push advice at me as so many tend to do, but knew just how to provide only what I asked without judgement. More than her knowledge and presence though, she helped me process my emotions as I accepted a C-section after months of planning for an all natural home birth. She gave me information on how to make my hospital birth as natural as possible and with her help we started kangeroo care and breastfeeding right in OR. And she even captured the moment on camera! I'm sure my experience would not have been nearly as positive without her. She was wonderful!
i could not of asked for a better doula than Kristin. It being my first pregnancy, i had every nervous thought a soon-to-be first time mom could muster, and Kristin was the most attentive, compassionate, thorough, and knowledgable person, who became more than just someone we "hired' but a partner in this journey for my husband and I. And when that baby decided it was time to come into this world, I am proud to say that i had a doula as loving and calming as Kristin by my side the whole time. She continued her superb services after my son was born, making the transition into motherhood just a little be easier. She will always be a very special part of me becoming a mom.
Kristin's knowledge and support were instrumental in helping my husband and I to have the medication and intervention-free birth at home that we had hoped for. I will forever be grateful for her patience and help planning and processing through all the stressors during my pregnancy and for the way she respects the sacred event of labor and birth.
Kristin was amazing from the very first meeting through the last follow up after we came home with the baby. I am a first time mom and an overly organized researcher by nature and Kristin was amazing with my million questions/concerns throughout my pregnancy. I ended up with a very scary situation during labor and she helped trmendously to keep me and my husband calm and talk through our options since we would not be able to have what our birth plan entailed. She stuck with me through 34 hours of labor, an emergency c-section and a very scary infection that caused me an extended hospital stay and my son to the NICU. We loved all the care and extra support we received from Kristin through the entire process and would highly reccomend using her to anyone.
It was so wonderful having Kristin there in the assistance of our son's birth. We both could not imagine going through that without her! Kristin was with us as soon as I was admitted to the hospital and didn't leave till after I delivered. She provided comfort to me by rubbing my feet while i was having contractions, answering my questions, and making sure the nurse was respecting my wishes. My husband really appreciated that she thought to ask him if he needed anything. Kristin also took pictures for us while I was delivering, which allowed my husband to have his full attention on me and the baby. Overall, Kristin was fantastic and I felt very supported by her.
I cannot say enough good things about Kristin. She served as our birth doula during my third pregnancy, and I'm so happy with our decision to hire her and the services she provided for me and my family.
I had some health concerns during my pregnancy, and Kristin was there for me every step of the way. She helped me to evaluate different birth scenarios in the event we were unable to have our baby where we wanted to and come up with ideas to improve on the situation. This lady drove around for 3 weeks with a rental tub in the back of her van *just in case* I had to go to the hospital and the tub there was occupied. No joke. That is just one example of the ways she went above and beyond to help us have the birth we wanted.
Kristin was respectful of all of our choices, easy to talk to, quick to reply to my concerns, and generally just a joy to have along for the ride. I'm so thankful for her presence during the end of my pregnancy when I was feeling anxious about my health and unsure about how our birth would unfold. Even with almost 2 weeks of nightly 'Is This It?' contractions and one trip to the birthing center where everything stalled, I never felt like I was bothering her. Her patience and calm were such wonderful assets to us.
Kristin has tons of knowledge about prengnacy and childbirth, and was a huge help to me in answering questions like, "How can I get this baby to turn?", and "How in the world does anybody navigate the spinning babies website?". I really appreciated her help in looking for answers to my questions.
Unforuntely I was unable to reach Kristin in time for our birth (or anyone else, for that matter - we had the baby in the car), but I have no doubt that everything that made her an asset during my pregnancy would have made for exceptional support during labor.
I would absolutely recommend Kristin in a heartbeat.
I had talked myself out of hiring a doula with my first two births but went ahead and hired Kristin for my third. One of the first things I said to my husband after our son was born was, "Kristin was worth double what we paid her!" I think one of the greatest things about Kristin is that she has such a kind heart, genuinely cares for you, and wants to help. She was a tremendous comfort to me in the tender few weeks before my labor, and she talked me through some irrational hormonal meltdowns. When I was considering switching care providers at 35 weeks she helped me navigate it. I can't stress enough what a phenomenal resource Kristin is. When I was switching care providers she sent me a list of midwives and doctors she could recommend, along with her experiences with each one. When I needed to see a chiropractor she rattled off a list of names. After delivery she had suggestions to help with my nausea and mastitis. She has a ton of labor tricks up her sleeve as well! Even though she is so knowledgable she is not pushy or commanding at all. During labor she is very calm, quiet, and perceptive about when you need help or what kinds of suggestions might be useful. Even though she was by my side the entire labor I never felt smothered. She kept both me and my husband calm. We have such fond memories of our birth experience, and were so touched that Kristin cared so well for all of us.
Kristin was an integral part of my successful unmedicated hospital VBAC. The support she provided helped my husband and I navigate hospital politics to attain the birth we wanted. Her presence during labor and birth gave both my husband and me security and confidence that we were capable of success. She helped me with positioning, pain management, and was a wonderful cheerleader! Kristin is friendly, relaxed, knowledgeable, and fun. She will remain my doula of choice for any future births.
Kristin was a treasured resource from the day we met. She provided valuable information and birthing preparation tools. Kristin was a calm, supportive presence during labor and gave exceptional breastfeeding support. My family loves her and I can't imagine a birth without her, she is a true asset.
Kristin was a huge asset during the pregnancy, birth, and post-partum period of our first baby; and we cannot imagine going through those experiences without her. Kristin’s communication is top-notch, and it was so reassuring knowing she was only a phone call, text, or email away. She was a comforting sounding board for me during my pregnancy and I valued her input as a mother of four. When I first started having contractions, I consulted with her on when we should depart for the birthing center. It helped so much having her there throughout labor and easing me through contractions with touch and encouraging words. She was also a great source of support for my husband, offering suggestions to him during labor, and staying with me when he had to take a break. Kristin captured invaluable moments of the birth in photos which we will always treasure. Right after the birth as I was recovering, Kristin prepared me a hot plate of food and fed me as I nursed our son for the first time. As I desired to have my placenta encapsulated, it was ideal that she performed this service and could immediately take it after the birth. Kristin was also there for all my questions and concerns as a first-time mom, and it was so great having her as a resource. My husband and I highly recommend Kristin as a doula!
Kristin was a calm, confident and informed doula. She was a valuable resource throughout the whole process from pregnancy to breastfeeding. Kristin was my voice during labor. For although I thought I would be more in control, I found myself so focused on labor that I really truly required a voice and a guide. Through various techniques, Kristin helped to hasten the labor process while keeping me as comfortable as possible. Thanks to her help I was able to deliver vaginally in less than 4 hours without any analgesia (despite being induced with Pitocin). My entire labor and delivery experience was so much better than I could have ever imagined thanks mostly to Kristin's skills and expertise.
