We are so grateful to Sha’Kaela (Kae) for stepping in as our birth doula at the last minute when our original doula couldn’t make it. Despite the unexpected situation, Kae provided exceptional support and care. She was a calming and compassionate presence, offering so much comfort to my wife during labor.

Kae also communicated effectively with the nurses, advocating for my wife when she was in pain and ensuring her needs were met. Her professionalism, expertise, and genuine kindness made a world of difference during such an intense and emotional time. We can’t thank her enough and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled and caring doula!

We had an amazing experience with Sha'Kaela as the doula for the birth of our first child this summer! In the months leading up to his birth she was always available to meet up, answer any questions, or assuage / validate any fears we had as 1st time parents. During the birthing experience she provided peace and stability, and she helped us to understand every step of the process in the hospital. After the birth,  Sha'Kaela continued to show up for us and make sure we were set up for success moving forward. I would not want to have done this without her!

I cannot speak highly enough of Sha’Kaela, who made my labor and delivery experience incredibly positive and smooth. From our initial meetings, it was clear that she was deeply knowledgeable and passionate about ensuring I have a great birth experience. In addition to this, our constant communication made me feel truly heard and supported.

During labor, her calm presence was invaluable. She provided continuous support, helping me stay focused and relaxed. Her empathy shone through in every moment, as she encouraged me and validated my feelings. It was comforting to know that she was there to help me feel safe and empowered as I charted through unknown territory as a first time mother. 

Her competence was evident in her ability to anticipate my needs and offer guidance when challenges arose. She skillfully used various techniques to ease discomfort and kept me informed throughout the process. Thanks to her support, my delivery went almost exactly as I had hoped, and I felt confident in my choices.

Sha'Kayla was so great to work with. During the pregnancy it was so nice to have someone that you could text with random questions or concerns and could give you knowledgeable answers without having to wait 3 days for your OB to get back to you. Sometimes you just need a quick "Is this normal or something to be worried about" text and she was amazing for that. She gave me great information to help work on things to prepare myself before the birth. When my water broke she was in constant communication with me checking in and going through options with me till we were ready for her to join us at the hospital. At the hospital she was a fantastic support for me and my husband giving us encouragement and helping us with positions and ideas to move labor along. We had a lot of great nurses, but our last one, while knowleageable was in a mood when she came in and rough with me! Sha'Kayla got her talking and working together with her and totally turned the whole thing around which I was so grateful for. Even after the birth she kept answering questions and came and gave me helpful tips on breastfeeding and encouraging us again. I'm super grateful for her and her time and her wisdom and encouragement and so grateful we had her for the pregnancy and birth!

We are beyond grateful to have had Sha'Kaela by our side during the birth of our first child. As a first-time mom, I had so many questions and she was an incredible resource and friend throughout the process. On the day of delivery, she guided us through every step, helping me understand what my body was going through and when to go to the hospital. During labor, she advocated for me, respecting my birth plan, while providing the emotional and physical support I needed. She was a nurturing coach, and even in our postpartum session, she continued to be a great help with tips on improving breastfeeding and ensuring a better latch.

From my partner's perspective, Sha'Kaela was just as amazing. She checked in on him, making sure he felt supported, and empowered him to be an active part of the delivery, creating an unforgettable experience for both of us. Her warmth made it feel like we had known her for years, and her presence truly made our delivery smoother and more positive. We can’t recommend her enough!

Our experience with Sha'Kaela was made complete due to her vital presence during labor and birth! Throughout my pregnancy, and as I approached my due date, she was attentive and caring with frequent check ins. When the time came for labor, she was an amazing support as she kept my body moving and stuck to our plan which allowed me to have a beautiful water birth at the birthing center with my husband and midwife. It's such a blessing to have someone there who understands what you want and can help advocate for the decisions already made when you're in no mental state to do so. I was hydrated, fed, comforted, grounded, allowed rest, encouraged to remain active, uplifted, and praised for my role in gracefully bringing baby earth side. I could not have asked for a better doula during our most special day.

When I first found out I was pregnant, I knew that there was no one else I wanted than Sha'Kaela to help me bring my baby into the world. Sha'Kaela was responsive and supportive throughout my entire pregnancy and often answered many questions I had, provided me with resources, and eased my anxiety with education. If it wasn’t for her expertise, I would have gaslit myself into not going to the hospital right away when my water broke. I really thought I peed my pants before she convinced me to go get tested to see if it was amniotic fluid. Her intervention alone helped reduce the risk of infection that water breaking can cause for mom and baby. Within 30 mins of arriving to the hospital, it was a confirmed rupture and I was officially admitted into L&D. Sha’Kalea stayed up with me for nearly 24 hours as I labored. Her support and advocacy during my labor helped me make good decisions as my original birth plan took a couple of plot twists. She became my pushing coach, my sound voice of judgment, my calming presence, and my friend during the entire process. Because of her, my birth experience was a positive one and I have enjoyed looking back and reminiscing on the excitement I felt. I am so incredibly thankful for her.

Sha'Kaela was incredibly helping durning my birth experience. She knew exactly how to help me manage my pain and helped me breathe through my contractions. She was also very helpful for my husband! She coached him on how to better help me and I found that to be extremely powerful! I am also so grateful that she was able to capture the birth of my daughter on video. She was our advocate in the hard moments and was my voice when I couldn't speak up for myself. She has a very positive demeanor and made me feel incredibly safe throughout my birth. Overall, I would highly recommend Sha'Kaela as your doula!

We had a terrific experience with Sha'Kaela and wish we could have had her support us forever - we had her support us for 7 weeks - starting right after we came home from the hospital. Sha'Kaela supported our family in ways we didnt know we needed. As first time parents, we didnt know what to expect - she supported us through all our anxiety and questions - our babys first bath, what to expect at pediatrian appt, how are the carriers supposed to work, how do we trim him nails, is the umbilical cord supposed to look like that (lol!). In parallel, she was very focused on making sure me, as a new mom, was doing ok. Daily asking how I was feeling, how I was healing, reminding me to eat and drink water, take a nap, take a shower, what to expect at my appointments, what resources are available to me. 

I dont know how she literally had as much focus on me as she did on our baby. And our baby loved her - she helped him with tummy time, and full care when she was at our home (diapers, bottles, cleaning, laundry, etc). 

We will absolutely love to have her back if we have any future kids and would highly recommend her to our friends and their families. We cant say enough good things about our experience.

Sha'Kaela provided night care for my son from birth - 5 months of age. She was always on time, a good communicator, and took very thorough notes. You can tell that Sha'Kaela is passionate about her job and genuinely loves children. She is also very neat -- the nursery was always left tidy and the bottles were always cleaned and put away when her shift ended. Beyond all that, she's just a delightful human and I always looked forward to our chats when she'd arrive at the house. If you are considering hiring Sha’Kaela, just do it!

I highly recommend Sha'Kaela McCurdy (NDDA). She walked me through the process of the services that she provided for labor support and explained in detail what possible outcomes can happen when it's time to deliver, for my case, there was a scheduled induction and Sha'Kaela educated me on most common types of inductions.

What really mattered to me was having her support during my labor, and although my labor happened excessively quick (estimated 1hour), Sha'Kaela made it in L&D just in time -- her presence brought me a moment of calmness.

During postpartum, she remained attentive to how I was feeling and doing for the duration of my hospital stay. 

Overall, Sha'Kaela is a well-equipped  doula. I became more confident in my third pregnancy compared to my previous pregnancies as a result of Sha'Kaela's guidance in my L&D journey. Without question, if I were to have another baby-- I'd want Sha'kaela to be a apart of that pregnancy journey as well!

Becoming a mom is one of the most beautiful, exciting, and fulfilling experiences you can have, but most know from the very start it can be overwhelming and scary. You have hundreds of questions, so many anxiety filled moments, there are so many things to be unsure about. Sha’Kaela provied calmness, knowledge, understanding, compassion, and just overall help during a time where emotions are at there highest. It's the best feeling to have an advocate for you and your unborn child. Someone that knows what you want, is aware of what you need, and knowledgeable on both. From daily check-ins, to helping with planning, becoming a personal google(lol) , texting back to the 3am anxiety filled questions, right up to coaching me on when and how to push; having Sha’Kaela as a doula brought peace and love into my pregnancy/birthing experience and I couldn't have been more blessed.

My experience with Sha'Kaela has been My experience with Sha'Kaela has been phenomenal! As a first-time Dallas resident and new mother, I have gained confidence and understanding about motherhood.

Sha'Kaela has been tremendously helpful, both mentally and physically. The amount of love and care she continues to provide and bring ensures that I never feel alone.

I had the pleasure of having Sha’Kaela be my birthing doula when I had my daughter August 3rd of 2022. Although that was the “big day” Sha’Kaela made herself available to me mentally and emotionally well-before that. She sent me so many resources on how to prepare for labor/delivery, how to choose the best delivery method, stretches to loosen muscles/joints, and so much more! The day I began having contractions, she was the first person I reached out to and based off what I told her, she told me I was in labor and to go to the hospital (although I didn’t believe it lol). She was there not even 20mins after I got there and did not leave my side until my baby made it safely earth side. As soon as she got to my room, she immediately started massaging me and holding pressure points to help relieve the pain, as well as advocating to my nurse when I couldn’t even speak. She truly made me feel safe and comfortable. Once I received my epidural, it was around 12am and Sha’Kaela made sure I had ice, water, flipped from side to side, and my epidural was flowing properly. She stayed up with me and listened to my concerns, and even had girl-talk with me to help me get my mind off what was to come. The next morning when it was time to push, Sha’Kaelaheld my leg up, helped me focus on my breathing and encouraged me even when I told her I couldn’t do it. She made sure my baby was being handled with care by the nurses and captured beautiful first-moments photos of my daughter and I. I am SO grateful to have had someone who truly loves not only babies, but mothers. You can feel it all over that this is her passion, this is what she loves. When I have more children, there is no one I trust more than Sha’Kaela to be my doula. Love you girl??

Hiring Sha'Kaela for the birth of our first born was the best decision I made for my pregnancy! She provided me service above and beyond what I could expect, being by my side every step of the way. My birth plan didn't go as expected, and there were a lot of opinions/suggestions from doctors and nurses thrown my way. Sha'Kaela was there to help explain each option and navigate the communication with the doctors and nurses alongside me and my husband. Her calm demeanor and personality fit great with my high strung, nervous and admittingly control freak personality. She was able to keep me calm and suggest the different labor positions as I got closer to giving birth, which kept me comfortable and gave me confidence. Word of advice to those giving birth in a hospital, nurses have other patients and doctors only come in for the birth. You need someone by your side! I don't want to scare you with how long my birth took, but Sha'Kaela was there with me the entire time and even came back the next day to check on me, which was so unexpected! 

If you are thinking about getting a doula, I would highly recommend Sha'Kaela. I told her if I ever got pregnant again, I would call her immediately. 

If fact, Sha'Kaela...if you're reading this, ready to do it again? Hopefully you don't have plans for New Years, I'm due December 31st! Looking forward to seeing you again for baby #2!
