I could not be happier in my birth experience and Jacqueline played a huge role in that! My husband was totally against the idea of a doula and I’m not saying it was easy since he can take offence over the thought of anything even if it isn’t reality, but Jacqueline was very sensitive to that and did not take away his role in the birthing process but encouraged and supported him as well. In the end, we were both very happy with the outcome! It was a complete 180 from my first birth experience without a doula! At this point, I’m not planning to get pregnant again, but if I do I definitely want Jacqueline to be my doula again! Thank you Jacqueline!
Jacquelyn was an invaluable member of my birth team. She came well equipped with knowledge, experience, and a kind and caring nature. She was supportive of my decisions and provided her insight as well so I could make the best decision for myself and my family. I had a fast labor for being a first time mom (8 hours). She met us at the hospital not long after I called her. With Jacquelyn's help, I was able to achieve the natural (unmedicated) birth experience I so desired. I call her my 'epidural' because she truly was! Any time I was in what seemed like too much pain, she reminded me that every contraction, every sensation, was bringing me closer to meeting my baby. She helped me into different positions which helped my labor progress. The hospital was ready to give me Pitocin, even though I was progressing normally, and Jacquelyn helped me to feel empowered to decline. There was also a point during the labor in which I may have been subject to an episiotomy, and Jacquelyn knew that was something I did not want. The baby was not in danger, so there would have been no medical reason for it to happen, and Jacquelyn knew this and we were able to avoid the procedure. She was there for me and helped to guide my husband and I through my labor and delivery. Without her, I would have felt very unsure and likely would not have had the natural birth I wanted. She is an amazing doula, and person and I'm very lucky to know her!
I also received constant support during my pregnancy from all of the L&B Doulas: Jacquelyn, Angela, and Marty. They were quick to respond to my questions and concerns.
Jacqueline was nice to work with. At the point when she was to change shifts, I was in too much paint to communicate very well anymore. She left, but I think she was worried about me. We did communicate afterward, and she was very caring and concerned about the way my labor went. She is excellent about following up on my welfare!
My husband and I had the opportunity to work with Jacquelyn and are so happy with our experience. Before our birth, Jacquelyn came to our house to discuss any questions we had and to give us reminders of what labor may entail and when we should contact her. She also showed us several wraps and carriers and allowed us to practice wearing them. During labor, Jacquelyn kept in contact throughout the day (although I was in denial that I was in labor, I think Jacquelyn knew). Once the contractions became stronger and my husband was helping me get through them, Jacquelyn gave us suggestions on positions to help with my horrible back pain. She also let us know that she would be right over whenever we wanted her. We called her back about an hour later and she was at our home within minutes. Throughout the rest of labor and delivery, she always had suggestions on how to help progress labor and/or help with the pain. She worked very closely with our midwife and we were thankful they were on the same page with everything. Jacquelyn made our hospital room as comfortable and home-like as possible, dimming the lights, laying out candles, using aromatherapy, offering soothing background music, etc. She was a great support for my husband, as well, at one point encouraging him to take a break and get something to eat. Jacquelyn was very knowledgeable and was extremely helpful in encouraging us and reminding us of our options. We know that we would have survived without her, but it would have been a completely different experience. We have no previous experience going through labor and delivery without a doula, but we are SO glad Jacquelyn was there with us throughout this process, and look forward to working with her again in the future. We will defintely be recommending her to our friends! Jacquelyn contacted us a week after the birth and gave us the opportunity to ask questions and process the experience together which was very beneficial.
Jacquelyn is an amazing doula and I recommend her highly. She truly has a calling. She was totally tireless and she guided me through the journey of pregnancy, labor, and delivery in a really healthful and supportive way. I want into labor 12 days past my "due date" during the hottest summer on record and Jacquelyn helped me stay focused and calm. She also provided support for my husband once labor began, making sure he ate, rested, and took breaks when we were at the hospital. I worked with a team of hospital midwives who repeatedly sang praises of Jacquelyn. She's very experienced, a true professional who combines expert knowledge with grace and care.
We also took Jacquelyn's childbirth course, which was informative and thorough. The other parents who took the class with us remain close friends even now, two years after all our babies were born. Jacquelyn creates communities based on trust, excitement over the power of birth, and informed practices that support parents and babies.
We hired Jacquelyn to be our doula for the birth of our first son. We took her Natural Birth class, and were blown away by her knowledge and experience, so we felt really comfortable with her. The first time we met her, we could tell how passionate she is about her job!
I'm convinced that if Jacquelyn wasn't there, I would have definitely ended up with a C-section. Her advice and support was invaluable. She empowered me through every contraction and every hard decision we made at the hospital during that long process of getting my little boy into the world!
We set out for a natural birth, but not everything goes according to plan. I was induced at 41 weeks and three days, since our Midwife was worried that the baby wasn't as active as he should have been. I was scared to be induced, but Jacquelyn assured me I could refuse it if I wasn't comfortable. We ended up going in anyway, and Jacquelyn arrived with us.
Even though we felt pressure at the hospital to "speed things along," Jacquelyn kept advising us privately of all of our options and helped us feel totally in control.
After pitocin, contractions got extremely intense, and with Jacquelyn's coaching, I was able to relax and meditate through CRAZY intense pain! The midwife and nursers couldn't believe how calm I was.
Jacquelyn was there through my long labor, coaching me, giving me massage and support. The baby wasn't coming down and I wasn't dilating, so I eventually asked for an epidural, which allowed me to relax more and dilate. The hospital staff kept suggesting that we do a C-section since it was taking so long. But after hours of pushing, I finally got him out!
Because of Jacquelyn, I felt like a million bucks after accomplishing what I did. I recommend her to everyone I know. We are forever grateful for her part in the birth of our sweet son!
We had a great experience with Jacquelyn! We were very well educated before the birth because we took her class and education is the best way to overcome fear. She showed a personal interest in our lives, even helping us write down our wishes for the hopsital staff. At first I was very unsure about hiring a doula: is it worth the money, would it be weird..etc. That all melted away the first time I talked to Jacquelyn on the phone. I knew I had found someone that 1-would support my ideas and feelings 2-had been there before and knew my worries, felt my fears 3- had the education and experience to help no matter the situation. She had so much enthusiasm it was contagious, even my shy husband felt comfortable around her. Due to a couple of things completely out of our control, after many hours of supported labor I had a C-section. I am completly fine with what happened and do not feel any post traumatic stress because I know we did EVERYTHING possible to avoid surgery. I absolutley do not know if we would have made it as far as we did without her. She was with us for over 48 hours, without much of any breaks. We got amazing pictures of our son being born in the operating room that I will always cherish, since my husband was busy holding skin to skin, that would not have been possible without her. She came to our home to follow up with us and make sure we were doing well, which is amazing when you have a newborn in the winter. We will be using her again if we have another baby for sure!
Jacquelyn was the perfect Doula for us!
We lived in opposite directions from the hospital, so following a few hours of laboring at home with my husband, she could tell from my voice, over the phone, that it was time for us all to meet at the hospital. She was right. I was 8 cm dilated and my contractions were pretty close together by the time we arrived. To this day, my husband is still trying to figure out what on Earth she said and did when she pulled me aside from my hectic hospital room shortly after our arrival. He said when I walked out of the bathroom with her I was no longer tense and doubtful, I was suddenly more calm and confident than he’d ever seen. I tried to explain it to him, but it is impossible to understand without experiencing it firsthand.
Jacquelyn met with us during the pregnancy, and she is excellent at learning her clients’ personalities and how to address their needs during the laboring process. She figures out what will motivate you, what will encourage you, and what will calm you. She knew exactly what I needed to hear and when I needed to hear it. She knew exactly when and where to place a light touch, when and where to place strong counter pressure, when I needed fanning, when I needed ice chips, when I needed the aroma of essential oils, and which oils to use. She knew when I needed to change positions. She knew when we needed to try something new or different.
Even with 3 hours of intense pushing, she was so amazing at empowering me that the thought of pain-relieving-drugs never entered my mind. Frankly, I don't think they could have made this experience anywhere near as positive as a Doula that is as knowledgeable and intuitive as Jacquelyn. We will always be thankful that we shared this amazing experience with her, as she, herself, was a part of what made it so amazing!
Jacquelyn was awesome to have at the labor and birth of our daughter. She was already at the hospital at 1am when we arrived. She had been up for two nights with a previous birth but she wanted to stay with us and not call in her backup. My labor was really fast and scary so it was wonderful to have her there reassuring us that everything was normal and fine. She was essential in getting me through the tough contractions. After Violet was born, she took some AMAZING photos. As first time parents, having someone there outside of hospital staff (our nurse was amazing also) was very calming. We would highly recommend Jacquelyn.
I had a surprise induction a little over five weeks early due to a high leak. Jacquelyn was called by us about an hour after induction, and got there very quickly! When she arrived she was able to help us make some tough decisions about internal monitoring, which we are very thankful for, and she kept a good rapport with our nurse as well. Jacquelyn was well equipped during my labor and helped both myself and my husband through the whole process. She also helped my husband help me! I hated laboring in bed, and she had great ideas for other positions which made my labor a very good experience. Thanks to Jacquleyn I was able to have a medication free labor(after the initial induction) that I so dearly wanted even in such a surprising situation. Because of her guidance, I was able to hold my sweet baby girl before they rushed her off to the NICU, had I been medicated I'm not sure they would have allowed that to happen. She took great pictures for us, stayed with us until we could visit our little girl in the NICU, and was a generally fabulous support. We are so thankful to have had Jacquelyn with us during such a special and important time...and for making it just like we had hoped (besides the timing, of course haha)
Our decision to hire Jacquelyn as our doula gave both my husband and me a lot of peace of mind regarding the birth of our first child. Having her expertise at our disposal was so calming for both of us. It’s easy to feel uncertain and overwhelmed during labor, especially for a first time mom. One of the things I loved about having a doula was the encouragement to try different laboring positions. This was a huge priority for me because I didn’t want to be stuck strapped to a bed, lying on my back. Jacquelyn offered a variety of positions to labor in without pressure to do any of them. Her guidance and suggestions made a world of difference to me because I didn’t have to try to remember all the information I learned in birth classes or read in my own research, I could just focus on breathing and laboring. A particular highlight for me was when Jacquelyn prayed for me and shared Philippians 4:13 with me, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It really encouraged me and gave me motivation to keep working towards my goal. We set out to hire a doula to help us navigate the uncertain and unpredictable process of labor and Jacquelyn did that and more! She was a wonderful encouragment and guide during the labor process and exceeded our expectations. Her suggestions, encouragement, and collaboration with the other members of our team helped to make a natural delivery possible. I can't imagine doing labor without her assistance!
