I am presently on the board and serve as treasurer for the Motor City Doula Association. My goal is to always be aware of all the current evidence based techniques and resources. I participate and sometimes lead forums that enhance client care and awareness. I have had the opportunity to participate in focus groups for the University of Michigan and several insurance companies with the intention to provide first hand knowledge of doula care and forge better understanding with practical medical team members to give the best care to expectant parents. I credit several Doula and Midwife groups, Metro Detroit Doulas, Black Doulas of Michigan, Melanin Moms, and Aspiring Doulas and Midwives of Color/Birthworkers and Spinning Babies with my gained knowledge and training that help to keep my skills sharp. I have also been certified as a Survivor Moms’ Companion as a trauma tutor.

Michelle is an AMAZING doula! I highly recommend her services. We only met twice before my birth because my daughter came a month early and I procrastinated in finding a doula. I am SO glad I found her when I did. She was so supportive when I called her freaking out because my water broke at 34 weeks and I was in Canada on vacation! Michelle met me at a hospital in Michigan that was different from the one I had originally planned to give birth at and she was there with me for 2 days while I labored! She even slept in the room. Without her by my side, I would not have been able to stay as calm as I was. She also did a wonderful job of coaching my husband to hold my hand and my mom to push on the pressure points on my back. 9 months later, I still see my birth as traumatic but having Michelle by my side is a bright point of that experience. I am thankful to her for the support and the beautiful pictures she took to commemorate the occasion.

Ms.Michelle was amazing. I felt so supported during my pregnancy. She was very resourceful as well. Though my birthing plan completely changed Ms.Michelle did a great job helping me make the best of my situation.

Michelle was AMAZING! She was supportive of my decisions every step of the way. This was my second birthing experience but my first time working with a doula. This time around was significantly better because of Michelle's support and assistance. I don't know how I would have made it through labor without her. Highly recommend!!

I don't even know where to begin, but I will start off with saying that our family is so thankful for Michelle being our doula.  Michelle was extremely professional yet very personable. I truly feel like I've gained a family member. She made sure to help me understand this pregnancy and delivery journey and with me being a new mom I felt so informed and prepared. I was able to call her at anytime with any concerns that I had during my pregnancy and I've had a rough start to post partum and she has been right by my family's side through everything. Hiring Michelle as our doula was one of the best decisions we could have ever made.

My experience with Michelle Smith was wonderful, as a young woman you sometimes want your mother to be present for birth of your children but unfortunately I lost mine a year ago. Michelle was able to not only give me support during my labor but also during the delivery, she was empathetic and comforting. She also captured some beautiful moments of my delivery and of my beautiful baby through photography I would recommend her to anyone and everyone! She listens sometimes while in labor you need a voice she was definitely mine.

I recommend Michelle  to anyone I know having a baby. At first, I thought that doulas were only for birth support, but she  was there for me and my family more than I could have ever imagined. Her expertise, advice, and support around all things pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum have been so helpful and such a wonderful addition to our life.

I felt comfortable with her in the room and was able to talk to her about anything. Being a first time mom was hard, but Michelle was able to make me feel like I could do this!

We are  so thankful to have had  Michelle at our  side during our daughter’s birth, and even after.

My experience with Michelle was very pleasant.  Michelle was my daughter's Doula.  She kept my daughter calm and she was very reassuring to what my daughter was going through.  She didn't just talk at her, she empathized with every labor pain as she rubbed her back.  The room was made to feel homie.  The aroma scent, and the musical playlist were choosen by my duaghter, and her every wish was conveyed to the midwife, and hospital staff by Michelle.  We were in good hands!  I would most definitely recommend her as a Doula!!!

Words truly can not explain how ultimately grateful I am fit this women! Michelle literally made my delivery smooth sailing (even through my dramatics). She was very supportive, comforting, reassuring, positive, affirmative and just all around amazing! She set the atmosphere for the labor. She made sure she was there every step of the way reminding me that my body was made for this and I can do it, which I did. She has an abundance of knowledge, and if she is unsure she will make sure she gathers information and get back with you timely! I could write a book about how amazing she is but I'm going to stop there. If you ever had thoughts of wanting a doula or doubted the ability of or need for a doula.... let me be the first to tell you Michelle will truly change your mind and help you to understand why everyone NEEDS a doula!

Michelle Smith was the doula for my daughter, Jessica. This was Jessica's first pregnancy and she was very anxious. Michelle was at Jessica's appointment when her doctor sent her in to be induced. From that moment until she delivered the baby and placenta, Michelle was there with my daughter.

She provided accurate information regarding the stages of induction and what she may experience. She was the liason with the nursing staff when needed.

Michelle offered words of encouragement, massages and a serene atmosphere (candles (LED), music and aromatherapy).

Jessica and I tell everyone we know about her experience with having Michelle as her doula. It was wonderful.

I highly recommend Michelle's doula services. She is professional and compassionate. We love her!!

As a first time mother I was very nervous about the whole delivery process and how much pain I would endure. I had my mind made up thank it was going to be the worst experience as far as pain goes in my life. With the help of Michelle I was able to get through the pain with excellent breathing techniques and more things to relax me. Literally the best doula ever! Highly recommended!

Michelle has been part of the births of my two younger children. In the beginning I was unsure about the need for a doula, but Michelle has been nothing short of amazing. She comforted my wife in more ways than I ever thought of. With the birth of my youngest child there were a few difficulties and I don't know what I would've done without. Here I am thinking she's there just for my wife but she kept me calm and engaged. With us the baby factory is closed ??but I highly recommend Michelle to anyone considering working with a doula.
