GALS (Giving Austin Labor Support) birth companion Central Texas Doula Association-- member
I believe that birth and full-spectrum support can be empowering during a vulnerable and transformational time, and I feel strongly that it should be accessible to anyone who wants it. Thus, I utilize a sliding scale pricing model for companion services. Sliding scale means you select the cost you pay according to what you understand about your complex and unique financial situation–more than just your current income is involved. In deciding where you fall on the scale, you might consider your privilege & roadblocks, earned assets & debts, income, family assets & obstacles. The scale is intended to be a map, inviting each of us to take inventory of our financial resources and look deeper at our levels of privilege. While I ask you to take these factors into consideration, please don’t stress about it. Pay what feels right. Sliding scale details here: https://companioncourtney.com/

Being pregnant and giving birth during a pandemic was very tough at times. One of those times was when my original doula called to let me know she had Covid symptoms and would not be able to attend my birth - I was over 40 weeks at that point so baby was coming soon! Luckily she recommended Courtney as a backup, and Courtney made herself immediately available for calls and texts, as well as setting up a video call intro to address any questions or concerns and get to know us better - this was so so appreciated and helped me not feel panicked about the last minute change. My birth story in a nutshell was 24 hours from waters breaking to birth, Courtney was at the hospital for all 19 hours of labor plus a few hours after the birth, and was an absolute dream. She was supportive, nurturing, kind, patient, and just made the whole experience so much less scary. She was super helpful with different laboring positions, soothing techniques, and offering tons of support to my partner. All in all, she made what could have been a very stressful situation smooth and even enjoyable. I look back really fondly at my birth experience, I thought it would be scary or traumatizing, but having Courtney's support truly helped make it one of the most amazing experiences of my life, something that makes me feel pride and joy about what my body can do. She has also been super attentive and available for any questions we might have post partum, checking in on us regularly to make sure we are doing well. I am so grateful for her and could not recommend her more!
As a first time mom the thought of going through labor was terrifying. Having someone to talk to who understands the process and everything that comes with it was the best thing I could’ve asked for at the time. Courtney shared a ton of valuable information that helped ease some of the anxious feelings I was having and at the same time answer many of the questions I had. She empowered me to believe in myself by helping me realize that my body was capable and prepared to go through labor. By my third trimester I was no longer afraid of what my birthing experience would turn out to be because I had faith in how marvelous and powerful my body was. Regardless of the planning and choices I had made prior to going into labor I knew my experience would be just as meaningful because it was my own. I will always be grateful to have received the support from Courtney that I did when I needed it most.
My experience with Courtney as my doula was nothing short of amazing. Courtney was originally my doula's backup, and less than a week before I went into labor my doula was diagnosed with COVID-19. The last minute change had worried me until I met with Courtney on Zoom just two days before I went into labor. She made sure to go over everything I had with original doula. My labor experience was perfect. Courtney was my laboring partner as my partner didn't make it until 10 minutes before I was done. She helped a lot with making sure my birthing plan went as I wished, but I received the most support from her in my postpartum time. She is extremely knowledgeable and was very helpful with getting me information on anything I was struggling with.
Courtney was so amazing! This was my first baby and I was completely clueless about pretty much everything involving pregnancy and delivery. I had no family support, so Courtney stepped in and quickly made me feel like someone actually cared about me and my unborn daughter. We did 2 zoom meetings and an in person meeting. She was so accommodating to me. Even though she lives in Austin, she drove to Georgetown to meet with me. She stayed in contact with me through texts which was nice because I hate talking on the phone.
When my OB decided that I needed to have a c-section at 37 weeks, Courtney was willing to be my support person and stay with me as long as I needed her. Even though she is more of a labor coach, she didn't even think about abandoning me when she heard about my c-section. I ended up having my daughter's father at the birth and due to COVID, only one support person was allowed to be with me. But Courtney messaged me throughout my hospital stay and has reached out multiple times to check on me and my daughter since we've been home.
I highly recommend Courtney if you are looking for a doula who will make you feel like you are family to her.
Courtney, was an angel during the process of labor. As soon as she walked in the room my family and I knew that everything was going to be okay. She listened to my needs and delivered a great service. I cannot imagine going through labor without her help .
She also drove from Austin to San Marcos for a postpartum check up and provided a lot of useful information.
Thank you so much for everything Courtney ??
Courtney was very thorough with communications . She referred me to a lot of help and was very present everytime we spoke. Love Courtney!
I'm probably not even going to be able to put into words how grateful I am for Courtney's assistance with my labor and delivery. She was absolutely amazing throughout the entire process: prenatal visits and checking in with me frequently, sending me valuable resources leading up to my due date about any questions I had, answering the phone at 4 am to help me figure out I was in labor, showing up and being 100% on the ball with everything I needed and didn't know I needed (but loved) during my labor, and then all the care and involvement she had with me and my baby postpartum. She truly made my labor experience amazing which is so important since it was my first. Her constant support and encouraging words just touched my heart and my husband and I are truly thankful for her. She was with us every step of the way and she was such a calm and reassuring presence. Her words helped me through each contraction and her touch soothes the pains. She even helped my husband be involved. We couldn't have asked for a better doula. She shows up and gives you all her heart and you feel like you've known her forever. She's called to do this and it shows. Since my labor, I have received support and resources from her that I have used and valued. I'll definitely be reaching out to her for my next pregnancy and I've already encouraged others to do the same! Thank you Courtney!!
