I met Appu before the birth at my house when Appu met with my daughter, Asha. My grand daughter was born in Jan. 2020.  They had met previously but this was my 1st time meeting Appu.  I was a little surprised Appu seemed so young.  Appu was knowledgeable and very nice, very calm and I liked that.  Asha was scheduled to be induced on a particular day and time.  Appu took her to the hospital and kept us apprised and let us know when to come and then let us know when she was in a room.  Asha told us she didn't want us in the room, but changed her mind when the time came.  I was glad she changed her mind.  I don't know if Appu helped with that.  I was just glad that she wouldn't be alone.  The 3 of us shared a hilarious moment during the long wait for contractions to begin which we'll never forget.  My husband stayed until late night with my 2-yr old grandson and then went home and brought him back in the morning.  The 3 of us slept there all night, not very comfortable, but nice.  Appu supported Asha during the contractions, holding her back which seemed to help.  Appu showed me how to do it and that was nice.  I appreciated Appu's help during the whole process.  Asha and I are close, but clash at times.  Appu's presence was able to prevent any unpleasantness.  I was glad Appu was Asha's doula.  Appu has also kept in touch with Asha and has visited at least once since the birth.

I strongly recommend Appu's doula services. As a Black woman, I knew seeking doula services was important to ensure mine and my daughter's health and needs were heard and we were safe. During my delivery, my family faced mistreatment and bias from our labor and delivery care team, and Appu addressed the communication issues while my partner and I could remain focused on my birth. Additionally, they provided comprehensive prenatal education and postpartum care. We learned so much from their water birthing and breathing techniques. Their warm, compassionate, caring approach was truly appreciated!

The original due date for my baby was Feb 9th. I was induced on Jan 15th! I had met appuni only a few days prior but she totally had my back in more ways than 1. She was prepared and was so sweet and calm that any nerves I had seemed silly. I felt like she was an instant friend. We only had a day to prepare how everything was going to go. We made positive affirmations to post about the room. She had some lavender essential oils going and the room smelled great. She played music that I like. She really made me feel in control and at ease. There were not too many surprises. She was very knowledgeable about the processes at the hospital,  all the pain easers and also how to breathe and  relaxation positions. She was very comfortable and she really made all the difference during my contractions. I felt so supported. I am so glad she was there and I will love her until the end  of time. <3
