My family had a wonderful experience working with Deirdre. Before the birth, she was really helpful in preparing for the arrival of our son, both in our sessions with her and sharing helpful resources throughout my pregnancy. She checked in often and supported us through some challenging moments as my pregnancy became overdue. During a very long and challenging labor, Deirdre was unfailingly calm, present and kind, and was an invaluable asset to my husband when we dealt with an emergency, and the hospital staff was too preoocupied with my care to support him. Deirdre provided and coordinated essential overnight doula care for us while we all recovered, and went out of her way to offer extra emotional support as we processed a fairly traumatic birth experience. We were so grateful to have Deirdre with us throughout this process, and would recommend her to anyone!
I have been very impressed by Deirdre's knowledge and compassion as a doula. Her prenatal visits were informative and she was always willing to answer questions and direct the sessions in a way to meet our needs. As a first time mom, I was grateful for her gentle and reassuring style, not just with me but with my partner as well. While she was not present at the birth (due to an unplanned c-section during the covid pandemic) she continued to keep in touch with me via video chat in the postpartum period. I would highly recommend Deirdre to any mom looking for a knowledgeable and compassionate support person for birth and beyond.
I am so grateful that my partner and I had Deirdre as our doula for the birth of our first child. Deirdre brought a calm and confident energy to my labor that contributed to a positive birth experience for our family.
We hired Deirdre part-way through the pregnancy and were able to have three prenatal meetings with her. Although I felt I was well-informed on pregnancy and childbirth, I learned new information, resources, and tools from Deirdre at each of our meetings. I felt particularly supported by Deirdre in identifying, practicing, and using comfort measures during my labor. I felt that the topics and information we discussed were always well-tailored to my and my partner's specific needs and concerns. I also appreciated that Deirdre was available by phone/email between our appointments. After the birth, it was so nice to have check-ins from someone who understood and had been a part of our birth experience.
Deirdre is highly professional and evidence-based--- it is apparent that she closely follows new research and developments in women's care and pregnancy. I would recommend her highly for birth doula support!
We are so grateful that we had Deirdre with us and we couldn't recommend her more highly! Throughout our time working with her, she was a calm and reassuring presence, which we very much appreciated as first-time parents.
Before the birth, we had several meetings with Deirdre. She made lots of time for us and made the space for us to share our story, our hopes and our worries. She was also well prepared, with lots of tools for Rob to use as comfort measures and answers to all of our questions. She tailored her visits to what we were interested in and wanted to talk about. These visits were very helpful in wrapping our minds around what was to come.
The labour itself turned out to be a long and difficult one and Deirdre was with us the whole time. She spent 30 straight hours with us! During this time, she helped us figure out when to call the midwife and then supported Rebecca alongside the midwife throughout. She rode in the car with us to the birthing centre and later to the hospital and her presence throughout povided calm, consistency and confidence. We were grateful to have another pair of hands to help the labour along when contractions stalled, and to make sure that Rob got some rest and enough to eat as well.
At our post-natal visit, Deirdre brought homemade treats, and provided the space for Rebecca to talk about her difficult delivery and check in on her mental health. This experience gave us closure as well as confidence that we could handle the challenges of new parenthood.
Thank you Deirdre!
Deirdre is one of the warmest people I have ever interacted with. Her calm demeanour was what first gave me the impression that she was the right person to support me with the birth of my second child. I can hardly put into words how incredible her presence was during my birth and postpartum. She helped me prepare for a home birth, feel comfortable during the whole birth experience, and comfort my firstborn while I laboured. I don't know what I would have done without her, especially her postpartum support. I cannot imagine how I would have done without her.
