Heather is the best. It's just that simple. I got her name from two friends who had worked with her and she ended up being the only doula I considered. We met for coffee and clicked and that was it. My husband wasn't sure he wanted us to use a doula, but after meeting Heather he readily agreed with me. Heather was an incredible support during my pregnancy and for my very long labour - I'm quite certain the only reason I can look back on the experience with positive memories is because she was there to support both of us. Heather provided us with some much needed support post-partum as well - she was the single most helpful person for assistance with breastfeeding and also helped us figure out how to maintain our sanity and get some sleep with a newborn. I cannot recommend her enough.
Heather is one of the best teachers, supporters, and insightful people I have met. She was my doula for both my babes, and hiring her was one of the neat decisions I have ever made. She is tough when I needed her toughness; she listened to every word I said; she could read my actions and my body language just as well as she listened to my voice while I was pregnant, while I was in labour, and when she was helping me learn how to breast feed. I can't recommend Heather enough. She is so smart, compassionate, thorough, and experienced. She has an amazing heart. I am so grateful for her guidance as we brought these wee beings into this world.
Heather was amazing! A colleague recommended hiring a doula when my husband and I were expecting - best idea ever! I hadn't heard of doulas before and was extremely lucky that I connected with Heather and that she was available. She was so kind, caring and knowledgeable. She absolutely made both of our children's births (repeat customer) so much easier and memorable for boh my husband and I. She helped me through my fears, my tears, the pain, joy, fatigue induced brain-fog and the trasition of bringing the babies home and breastfeeding. All the way she was supportive, available, funny, caring and completely professional. She is the best and has such a passion for her work. Couldn't have asked for more!
Heather was our doula 8.5 year ago. I remember being very excited, scared, and nervous about being pregnant. A friend of mine asked if we were going to be using a doula. I had no knowledge of doulas and what they did but I was willing to try anything to make this birth as good as it could be. My friend said you will love Heather! She is sassy and clever and knows her shit. And her hair is amazing! We made an appointment for an interview. As Heather walked down the hall to our apartment I remember falling in love. She was so kind and funny. And her hair was amazing! We signed with Heather without even interviewing anyone else! Heather came over before the birth to make a birth plan - reminding us that the only thing that really matter at the end was healthy baby healthy mum. On the birth day Heather came over made me walk, squat, chat, and eat. I was having a difficult labour but Heather had magical ways of distracting from the pain. At some point it was suggested that we head to the hospital. I was so fearful my birth wasn't following 'the plan' but Heather reminded me healthy baby healthy mum was what mattered. Heather was amazing while we were in hospital. She took pictures, she directed kirk, she reminded me to breath. Once the baby arrived she took the most beautiful first family photo we could have hoped for. Things were not going great for me, so as Kirk was talking to the surgeons Heather snatched up the babe and immediately put him to my breast to get those first sips of milk. At some point left and took my placenta to get it encapsulated. Her visits after the birth when we were all home were very welcome. And she came with coffee! I can’t say enough good things about Heather. I have recommended her to all my friends and still rave about her today! I ran into Heather once 6 years later she remembered me and my son. Heather’s heart is a big and bright as her hair!
From the moment Heather walked into the hospital room she didn't miss a beat. I was already in active labour and in the shower trying to get a hold of my contractions. I was able to focus my breathing and with her help find a rhythm. I was attempting a vaginal birth after two cesearans. So, I was scared and doubted my ability to birth. She consistently and compassionately supported me through each contraction. She moved me into different positions to help bring baby down. I remember at one point saying, this is the worse position ever and I can't do it. But she and my midwife knew this is what I needed to bring that baby to me. They knew I could do it and having that constant support helped me know it too. I birthed a beautiful baby girl and didn't realize how healing that birth would be for me. It was the most beautiful experience and I will forever remember Heather and her part in that day. Everytime my daughter has a birthday, i tell her about her birth story. We remember Heather every year and will always be grateful for her.
