I was a week late with my first baby so when I went into labor I was just so happy and excited to finally have something happening. Before admitting me they asked if I'd like a volunteer doula and at that point I wasn't completely sure what a doula was other than a birthing coach I guess, but what does that mean? To coach someone through birth? I couldn't tell you before I met Amy. She came into the room and introduced herself. She was kind and soft spoken, I could tell she knew what she was doing. I wanted to be completely natural and she was all about it. She helped me through each contraction with breathing and reminding me to deepen my breath and really feel my baby come deeper into my pelvis. It was amazing, she helped me walk around and she guided my husband to my side so he could hold me through contractions. I was in labor for twelve hours but because I had Amy time went by so fast. Everything she did had me feeling better; warm showers and when she had help with squeezing my hips which eased pressure through contractions, she was on top of everything with aromatherapy and a belly wrap to help relive pressure some more. I mean the whole experience with Amy has me feeling very fulfilled with my delivery. I hope to have her with me and my second baby. I have a profound understanding of what it means to coach someone through labor and delivery. She is so much more than that though. She was my reasurance and support, even after the fact she is my friend and has just the most peaceful aura. I'm so happy I had Amy with me.
When I met Amy, She had the most reassuring voice that was soothing to the ears when I was irritated and on edge during labor. We tried many positions to ease the contractions, which was nice to have Amy in the labor and delivery room. Amy and my husband worked in sync as if they had met before, which was the best thing! Also, I couldn’t not have done what I had done without Amy to be honest because I could see that my husband was hurting on the inside due to the amount of pain I was in. Having Amy there soothe my back when my husband was holding me up and swaying me from side to side soothed the most. Also, I loved how Amy took the initiative to follow what I had planned and asked the questions while my husband and I were in the process of handling the pain and being in the zone. As I was in labor for longer and longer and I found myself no longer being able to be soothed by what Amy and my husband were doing, Amy reacted very quickly and efficiently to find another tool, position, or breathing exercise that did work. I highly recommend Amy for any one and will be contacting her in efforts for her service on the next go around, no matter what state we are in. Thank you Amy Botha, you made the day that much easier for my and my husband.
