Zach is so incredibly passionate about pregnancy and birth. He is very knowledgeable and always there to answer questions. Zach attended my home birth and  was an enormous help to me and my husband. He gave us privacy when we needed it but was always close by to help. He did numerous things to help us- providing food/drink refills, offering position suggestions, applying pressure on my back so my husband could hold me, helping me in and out of the birth pool, helping provide support during the pushing phase, and even holding up my husband while my husband held me. Zach continued to care for me after birth and would check on me several times throughout the first month. It will be hard for you to find a more compassionate individual. His love for his job really shows. I highly recommend!

Zach was my Doula for the birth of my second child, Aurelia. The experience I had giving birth the second time around was night and day compared to my first birth experience.  The birth of my son left me with a 4th degree tear, mental and physical exhaustion, and pure fear for motherhood. I really do contribute the ease of the birth, the immediate connection with my daughter, as well as my quick recovery all to Zach.

At 2 am on a December morning, I went into labor naturally. Zach showed up with the biggest smile, Christmas lights, and Enya—he remembered me talking about how much I love her music and how calming and relaxing it is to me.  I labored for about 10 hours naturally, with both my husband and Zach taking turns massaging and talking me through my labor pains. I had dilated to about 8cm and my body was stuck there for about 3 hours. I was so tired, and felt defeated, and Zach was still as happy as when he first walked in! I can’t speak enough about how important that is, because when both the mom and the dad are tired and defeated, we need that extra light of energy from somewhere to keep our heads up.

Zach did not walk away that day and just drop his Doula duties; he called me every day for the next three days to see how we were all doing—he especially focused on my physical and mental wellbeing knowing very well that the baby was being attended to by the hospital nurses.

I cannot speak highly enough about Zach. Even the nurses at the hospital where I delivered were so amazed by the quality of care I received by Zach. I had to go back to the L&D floor a few months ago to get some blood drawn from my daughter, and the nurses STILL remembered hearing about “that one male doula” from two years previous.  From the bottom of my heart, I know Zach will make an outstanding nurse, and midwife one day. He will be a great asset to any team, wherever he goes.

I would whole-heartedly recommend Zach McKenna as a doula. He assisted with the high-risk birth of my son and delivered supportive care from day one. Zach took the time to listen to my needs and provided thoughtful support to both me and my husband throughout the process. Zach listened intently to my previous birth story, which included trauma, and thought of creative ways to reframe this pregnancy and birth to be joyful. He provided resources and materials for us to review and listened thoughtfully to our feelings. When my doctors determined it would be medically necessary for me to have a c-section, he didn’t stop caring or advocating for us, instead, he found new ways to provide support to us. He provided research about immediate skin-to-skin contact after a c-section, something we weren’t aware was possible, and because of his research we were able to advocate (successfully) for the possibility at my son’s birth. After my son was born, he had pressing medical needs and needed to be taken immediately to the NICU. My husband was able to immediately follow him without any guilt or fear because Zach had helped us formulate a plan that if our baby needed immediate care that he could stay with me in recovery while my husband went with the baby. When I woke up from surgery, Zach had a picture and update ready of my sweet baby boy. After the birth, Zach continued to provide lactation support and check-in with us to ensure that we felt comfortable and supported as parents. As a male, he was also able to provide unique support to my husband and provided research about the importance of skin-to-skin contact with babies and their fathers. His thoughtfulness, support, and quest for knowledge ensured that despite the complications, our birth was a happy and well supported one.

We will be forever thankful for the services and loving care Zach provided to our family.

Working with Zach was like a breath of fresh air in the middle of drowning in pregnancy. I had a hard pregnancy and Zach came alongside my husband and me to talk through symptoms, preparations for birth, and offered a wealth of information. He never seemed annoyed by all of my questions and lack of knowledge in the area of birthing. He is so passionate about people and providing solutions to anything that may come up in the pregnancy and birthing process.

Having Zach be our advocate in the delivery room was an amazing blessing for my husband and me. He stepped up to take care of each of us in our times of need. His constant encouragement throughout labor was just what we needed to make it through. He also created a timeline of the delivery process which was the most beautiful gift that I will forever cherish.

Zach’s care is far from over once baby arrives. He is incredibly good with babies and offered help to us as well as debriefing sessions to discuss the birth and how the family is doing postpartum.

If you’re looking for genuine, whole hearted support through the biggest time of your life, Zach is your guy. And people, never in a million years would I think I’d be ok with a male doula, but you truly can’t get much better than Zach. At no point did I ever feel uncomfortable or weird because he is THAT GOOD! If you’re looking for the best, you’re looking for Zach!
