I have been a special needs school bus driver since 1999. Under a law that went into effect July 1, 1995, our fingerprints must clear an Illinois criminal background investigation and be submitted to the Federal bureau of Investigation for criminal history checks. We complete initial classroom courses including first aid procedures, mandatory safety meetings each month, and are property trained on installing our car seats for our youngest students (aged 3 and 4). Each year, we submit to our yearly physical (medical exam), random drug and alcohol testing. More than two serious traffic offenses within one year would make us loose our school bus permit.....and our job. Through the years, I have come in contact with many types of Special Needs of the students, held a child through her seizures, held onto confidential information, and held the district policies as well as the Illinois Department of Transportation rules and regulations. I also have held my Certified Nurses Assistance certificate for the past eleven years, working at various nursing homes and rehab facilities on the weekends. I have over 500 hours of volunteer service at Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington, working in the Emergency Room as a non-medical volunteer. I will be looking into taking a child/infant C.P.R. class shortly. I just finished CAPPA's Postpartum Doula Training, giving me 18CAPPA Contact Hours. Am I an Election Judge for McHenry County (precinct 13)
