I have been a volunteer doula for Woodwinds Hospital for three years. I was also a volunteer doula and board member at The Philomena house in St. Paul MN. It is a shelter for people who are pregnant and homeless.

When I was pregnant I wasn’t even going to get a doula at all. I genuinely didn't really understand what a doula did. I mean, you already have medical professionals, what more do you need??? After recommendation after recommendation from friends and relatives about hiring a doula, even though I didn’t really understand, I hired a doula. THANK HEAVENS I hired Molly.
I had a particularly challenging labor. Contractions started at 4:30am on Thursday morning and the boy was delivered at 10:38am on Tuesday. Molly was with me every moment of the way from emotional support via text in the beginning when contractions were faint and far apart all the way thru the most challenging of contractions and ultimately the delivery.
My mom, my sister, and my best friend were present during most of the birth of my boy and I would absolutely like to note that hiring a doula is just as important for them as it is for you. Molly’s knowledge of what is normal and what is abnormal, paired with her calm and consistent demeanor alleviated a lot of stress from everyone in the room, especially me.
If and when I need another doula, I am certain to rehire Molly.
