Sammie was the perfect addition to my birth team. She offered comfort and support when needed and was excellent at reading a situation and knowing when to withdraw. She has such a calming and positive presence and truly made me feel empowered to attempt an induced labor without an epidural - something I never would have considered without her! It is so clear that she was made for this supportive role. I will recommend her to all my pregnant friends and definitely hire her for future births. She entered as my doula and came out as my friend!
When I first heard about Sammie I was very excited as I had known about doulas and the support they can provide but never thought I would be able to have one. I immediately started researching doulas and when we met to discuss her services and make sure our perspectives matched up, she already knew everything I had looked up and impressed me very much. My husband and I knew that we would benefit from having her present during my labor and birth. We discussed my goals and making sure I experienced an informed birth and was not pressured into making choices I wasn't fully on board with. We met again closer to my due date in my home and she demonstrated the different ways herself or my husband could help me with pain during the laboring process such as use of assistive devices like a birth ball or a Rebozo and massage. I was then scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks and knew the pain I was going into as this was my second induction. I kept Sammie informed along the way with updates after each OB appointment and how I anticipated the day to go. When the day came she and my husband rallied around me as contractions started to build up. I was able to verbalize to them what was working and not working and she kept up along the way with recommendations or just plain support in how I wanted to labor and helped to communicate with the nursing staff when myself or husband couldn't. I successfully delivered a 9 pound 2 ounce baby boy with the use of analgesic nitrous oxide gas which was the goal I wanted to reach. Baby boy was loved on by my mother and husband while I was having a tear repaired and Sammie held my hand all the way through. She followed us over to mother baby until I was settled in. She followed up about a week later for a home post partum check that was very appreciated. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula as Sammie is supportive, educated and a sweet presence in the journey of your labor and birth.
