As a social worker, my focus is on how to support the transition to new family, and provide continuous support so that no one has to bridge those changes alone. Reproductive Justice is very important to me, that people are able to receive all of the reproductive care that they need in a compassionate and non-judgemental fashion, and that parents are able to and supported in caring for their families and raising their children in the way that they choose to.
I’m Sherraine, birth and postpartum doula and founder of Sweet Birthday Babe, a full spectrum practice based in NYC. With a background in social work and over three years of doula experience, I support first-time parents who want to feel confident and deeply cared for through every step of birth and early parenthood. My approach blends evidence-based preparation and strong support and advocacy, with the emotional, nourishing care every family deserves. In postpartum, I care most about taking care of YOU, so that you can bond with your baby. I believe doula support is not a luxury; it’s a return to community and care that honors you as you transition into parenthood. I believe that everyone deserves a Doula! I am committed to ensuring access to quality doula care for lower-income birthing people, and offer sliding scale packages when I can.

Sherraine was my birth doula and postpartum doula for the birth of my daughter in 2022. Sherraine was deeply supportive during my pregnancy, labor, and post partum journeys. She provided me with useful information and guidance during crucial parts of my labor and delivery. Her background in social work was greatly appreciated during those raw postpartum days when there's much processing and many emotions. She's a wonderful doula and you will want to be her friend! Her understanding of all things womb, birth, and mental health make her a pretty incredible doula.

Sherraine joined us during our homebirth as a backup doula and was exactly what we needed to get through the remainder of our labor and birth experience. She brought in a fresh, new energy and confidently supported us both physically and emotionally for the final few hours. I highly recommend Sherraine to anyone looking for doula support.

We had such a wonderful experience working with Sherraine! I had a lot of fears about labor and Sherraine helped me work through them in several ways: (1) by pointing me to available research; (2) by helping me realize the limits of research and get comfortable with the unknown; and (3) by spending significant time going over physical ways to ease discomfort during labor.
I was in my third trimester of pregnancy when the coronavirus pandemic hit New York City. It was a scary and uncertain time in a lot of ways, and as we faced a constantly changing landscape of rules and circumstances, we were so grateful for Sherraine's reassuring expertise and calming presence. When we switched entirely to zoom services, Sherraine did not miss a beat. When I labored at home for 9 hours before going to the hospital, we relied entirely on the positions and and pain management techniques that Sherraine had showed us.
One of the things I loved most about Sherraine is that she does not impose any particular viewpoint on how labor should be; rather, she asks questions that help you consider the available options and think about what works best for you. She is also very knowledgeable and responsive to questions and concerns. These qualities make her an excellent doula. She was an indispensable part of our team and I cannot recommend her highly enough.
